If you want to throw away money I recommend this place. Website advertised this, essentially an inspection, as about $180 and instead it was 6x more. The one star in this review goes solely to Oscar (sales rep) who was extremely helpful and understanding throughout this entire process which went sideways as soon as I agreed to purchase a vehicle. As a sales rep, there is little that Oscar could have done regarding any of the issues that I experienced, which as explained below seem to sit squarely with management. I first came in late in the afternoon on a Saturday and again on the following Monday. I still have not been able to purchase a vehicle that is sitting on the lot. On Saturday (1/21) while I was waiting on the closing documents, Oscar informed me that when the vehicle I had chosen was going to be brought down from the parking lot, a check engine light (related to the all-wheel drive system) came on. You would think that especially on a certified pre-owned vehicle, the dealership would do their due diligence to ensure no error codes are coming up on a vehicle prior to the sale. It also bears mentioning that it is extremely easy to reset error codes in vehicles which will not be registered again until the car has been driven for a certain number of miles. It certainly crossed my mind that perhaps the issue with the vehicle had come up before and after unsuccessfully attempting to repair the issue, they reset the car computer so that the error code would not appear when showing the vehicle to a customer. Oscar then informed me that they would have the car sent to their on-site service station to have the car inspected and repaired if necessary, but this would have to wait until Monday. I returned on Monday (1/23) after Oscar confirmed for me that the vehicle's battery had been changed and that this had resolved the issue. I arrived on or about 6:15 pm and met with Oscar to inform him that I was ready to close now that the issue with the vehicle had been remedied. Oscar informed me that the finance team was assisting someone at that time, but hopefully in 25 minutes or so I would be able to close on the vehicle. I proceeded to wait in the lobby until approximately 8 pm when I couldn't wait any longer as I had not eaten dinner, had additional hours to bill for my job and had to return home to walk my dog. I had been waiting for nearly 2 hours to close on a vehicle, which on a Monday night is baffling. Before leaving, Oscar walked me back to the finance offices to check if anyone was available. I asked the finance rep (did not get his name) how long this process would take and he immediately took a condescending tone, lecturing me about the numerous legal disclosures that he had to go through with me (which I have sat through and participated in on multiple occasions and multiple dealerships). When I explained to him that after nearly a two hour wait that I wasn't able to spend anymore time waiting for the dealership to sell me a vehicle, he cut me off insisting that I sit down to close and falsely insisted that the process would only take 10 more minutes of my time. Not once during this interaction was any consideration given to the fact that I had already been waiting for assistance for almost 2 hours. The finance rep did not even acknowledge how long I had been waiting, let alone offer an apology. Add to that the fact that this was now my SECOND visit attempting to purchase the same vehicle and there was zero consideration given to this fact. During my nearly two hour wait, I had plenty of time to use the restroom and overhear conversations by salespeople who were waiting for customers to come in. The bathrooms at this place make the bathrooms at the Southwest terminal at LAX look like bathrooms at the Ritz Carlton by comparison. This isn't necessarily an important basis to level criticism at a dealership for, but it does speak to the priorities of the organization and perhaps is indicative of other issues at this dealership. In fact, one of the conversations between sales reps that I overheard during my stay at the dealership was in response to what appeared to be prospective customers walking out after attempting to purchase/lease a vehicle. The sales rep was expressing his frustration with the dealership management being unhelpful to reps who were trying to simply do their job: closing sales. As I was sitting there waiting for what felt like a DMV-length ordeal, I was certainly able relate to this frustration. It seems to me that if sales reps are making such complaints, my experience attempting to close on the same vehicle on two separate occasions does not seem like an isolated issue with this dealership. Ultimately, I left the dealership AGAIN without the vehicle I was trying to purchase. If there is one thing that seems clear based on the repeated failures during my two attempts to purchase a vehicle, it is that as long as the dealership is selling some cars, there is no interest in respecting customers or their time. read more

I've been back a few times for servicing on my Camry. Nothing has ever really gone wrong with it, but there was a factory recall servicing that had to be done (a switch replacement or something mechanically-related) a couple years ago. Because of the pandemic, I did not drive the car for more than about 1,000 miles over a two year period. So now here we are, roughly one year after the pandemic ending, and I'm driving it regularly again. Ok, so I took it back in for its 10,000 mile checkup (actually it was 11,---something, upwards of 12, so I'm a tad overdue.) The car was running just fine but there was a problem - the alarm system kept randomly going off and it was pissing off my neighbors. It still is. They told me at my appointment that there was no way for them to fix it, I would have to return sometime later when a staff member from their third party was at the shop and could adjust it so that the alarm would not go off so much. Well, great. Let me be the first to tell you that this car has never been tampered with. I'm in a gated community with a high fence around the driveway. Most car alarms will go off if somebody actually tries to break into the car. This one? It will go off if a semi or someone with a loud diesel engine passes by. I live close to a freeway and this alarm picks up SOUNDS. Not sounds of someone breaking into the car, but just loud noise in general. Car thieves are usually quiet, so...there you go. Crappy, defective alarm system. I asked them if they could actually deactivate the alarm altogether. They said no. Why not?? I already paid for the stupid thing when I bought the car, so if I ask you to please turn it off, why can't you do it? read more

I'm still stunned by what happened. I paid for a service package during covid. Because I did not drive nearly as much, my last service expired but fortunately there was a one-year grace. The one year grace period was up today, and I went in for my final service. Every time I would go in of course they would try to upsell me something was wrong with my car or something needed to be replaced etc. This time, they told me that I needed brake fluid and coolant and I said thank you for letting me know but I will not be doing it here. By this point in my life I finally come to the point where I'm savvy enough that the dealership will charge you an arm and a leg and it doesn't make any sense to get stuff like this done in dealership unless you have a warranty. Once you are outside of the warranty, spare yourself ridiculous markups and go to a mechanic, a trusted mechanic mind you. Toyota also told me that my suspension needed some parts replaced. The minute I left I went to jiffy lube and I told them that I just left Toyota and I was told I needed coolant and brake fluid. The wonderful service guy told me that they do not do brake fluid top offs but that he'll do my coolant for free because it's such an easy thing to.do. mind you, Toyota wanted to charge me $570 just for coolant and brake fluid top off. the man opens my hood and I walk up to stand by him because I want to learn about how to do these things myself since women are taken advantage of so often. Well, he locates the coolant and says you don't need any coolant. I said, are you sure? What do you mean I don't need any. He said look here, here's the line, you're above the line. You don't need coolant at all. I said I can't believe it, Toyota just told me and they put it in writing that I need coolant. He said please be careful with places around here in the valley, even the dealerships. I was stunned. I will be calling the manager because I want to know if they even put oil in my car since they are such scoundrels and knowing that I prepaid for the package years ago and didn't do any add-ons I wonder if they even serviced my car at all. read more

My vehicle was dropped off for what I thought was a battery issue, and ended up being an issue with the key fob not communicating with the computer, which then prevented the car from starting. I signed a receipt and was told there would be a diagnostic cost of around $225 (give or take). The day after dropping it off, I received a call from my service advisor, John, saying they couldn't figure out what the issue was but that it wasn't a which fix. He asked if they could continue looking it at it, and I said yes. There was absolutely NO mention of additional cost, or that there would be an hourly charge. Almost a whole days goes by with no update so I call to request one, hoping to get any diagnostic details before a potential fix was performed that I could use to get a second opinion on that potential fix. I received a call back from John, who acted like I was rushing him, and kept saying "it's not a quick fix, we need time". I assured him I wasn't trying to rush him and just wanted a detailed update so I could pursue the second opinion. He said something along the lines of "the computer isn't communicating correctly". He says he'd be out the next day but that another tech would call me for an update. The whole next day went by and I received no update. The next day, John calls me to tell me my vehicle is fixed and to come pick it up. THERE WAS NEVER AN APPROVAL FOR THAT FIX. He proceeds to tell me the total cost would be about $750. With the new key costing $66 and the rest labor. I go in the next day to speak to the service manager who does nothing to remedy the situation, insisting I gave verbal approval for the additional diagnostic cost and that it included the cost to fix and any labor. That's obviously not how the law works and gives an open window to charge anything for labor - since at that last call there was no fix in sight. The service manager, Mario, then outright insults me and says " I think that you agreed to the $675(approx) cost and now you don't want to pay it". Are you kidding me? Not only is that outright disrespectful and confrontational, but it makes no sense. If I agreed then why would 2 days make a difference. He immediately walked it back and said "I'm sorry, it just was what I was thinking and it just came out". They refused to release the vehicle and made me pay for work I never approved beyond the initial diagnostic. There was no itemized cost of the labor or diagnostic cost, and absolutely no working with me. I was respectful and tried to be understanding, but was called a liar and insulted from the jump. I'm furious and will be seeking legal counsel, along with opening a claim with the BAR (bureau of automotive repairs), BBB, and will attempt to speak to the owner and GM of the dealership. I never leave bad reviews or take action like this, but what they did was illegal. Plain and simple. And Mario should not have insulted me as he did, with no intention of helping me. Stay away. You're better off going to ANY other shop. This seemed like a small oversight on their part but instead of meeting me in the middle, the service manager doubled down and decided insulting me was a better move. I pray to God they recorded those calls, but who knows if they did. read more

INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE I brought my Prius for a new 12v battery. The work was complete on the same day, and everything appeared to be back to normal with my vehicle. Barely 24 hours later, all of the lights on my dashboard go out, my rear view camera stops working, and I can't even turn off my car. After some research, I discovered this is likely an issue with my combination meter. Since purchasing the car, I have never once had an issue with this system. After doing a little more digging, there are multiple threads online that suggest a battery issue (such as a poor installation) could trigger a problem with the combination meter. I took my car back to the dealership in hopes of a quick solution that could get me back out on the road (and back to work). They refused to accept any responsibility for this new (previously non-existent) problem. Their best explanation was basically, "your car is old with a lot of miles and issues and these things happen." Their other recommendation was that I get a new combination meter, which they would be more than happy to install for me...at my expense, of course. No, thank you. I will not be bringing my car back to this dealership, and I'm honestly debating if I even want to purchase a Toyota brand car in the future. That's how bad of a taste this experience left in my mouth. If I do end up getting another Prius or Toyota, it surely will not be from Keyes Toyota. read more

**SCAM ALERT** I leased a 2020 Corolla Hybrid from Keyes Toyota in Van Nuys. My lease was ending and I wanted to purchase the vehicle. Toyota Financial directed me to the dealer. A salesman named Peter called me to advise that if I wanted to purchase my car's lease, I had to pay $995 to Keyes Toyota for an inspection to include a smog check. This is not in my lease agreement nor did it sound legitimate so I emailed and left a voice message for Lease Retention Manager Sonia Guerrero at Keyes Toyota to confirm this was the dealer's policy. After 3 days now, Ms. Guerrero never responded to my email or voice message. I called Tustin Toyota who confirmed there is no charge for an inspection to purchase out my vehicle's lease. 6 years of coming here to service my old 2007 Yaris. I figured it was the best place to go for a new car due to history I had with my car. I was DEAD WRONG. Me and my spouse popped in for 3 separate days while we car shopped. First day, just to look at the different models and discuss the sticker price. Second day for my spouse to test drive what we narrowed our choice down to. And the final day, to do one final test drive by me and for us to really dive into the specifics of the car to make sure we were happy while discussing financials with the rep at the end. We worked with Rene all 3 days, specifically requesting him since he was so nice and we wanted him to get the commission for the work done. When we sat down to discuss particulars on financing, we went over numbers. The sticker price was discussed as pretty solid numerous times the 3 days we went, as well as during initial discussion. I had perfect credit. After I had mentioned that I would be financing through my credit union, rather than Toyota, things went downhill. Rene went to discuss with the 'finance guy' about us numerous times. After I mentioned my credit union, he came back and surprised us with the idea that the sticker price was no longer the cost of the car. In fact, because of limited supply, this car was now $3000 more in price. I was dumbfounded. I wasn't sure if I was just not hearing him correctly. My spouse was shocked as well. I stormed out, very mad because this was a very dishonest and unscrupulous thing to do after having spent 3 days in the dealership focusing on 1 particular car. Why was this not stated early on? Even crazier that we are in the middle of a pandemic, with people out of jobs and being more frugal to be told this BS. Keyes Toyota really isn't the best place to go and what they did to us was just shady. I spent that night online, looking at nearby dealerships and calling them the next day. We picked one to go to, showed up, finalized the deal in less than an hour. No problems, no issues. Even got free things thrown in and more of a discount than what I would have gotten at Keyes Toyota. Shocking. So... there you have it. Sorry Keyes Toyota, we were literally ready to buy the car that day and you lost out. Mind you, I don't place any blame whatsoever on poor Rene the salesman. But rather the greedy finance manager who he basically goes back to and is told how to play with numbers to screw over poor, misinformed people who don't do their proper research. Buyer beware at Keyes Toyota. Update: Interesting that after posting this, I scroll down to a review on 7/29 by Alex S. and then on 6/8 by Lynne G. to see they had the same exact issue. They kept insisting that their final offer was the lowest out of all dealerships...WHICH IS FALSE. I told him I don't like to haggle. That's my offer if you don't accept than we part ways. I informed them that I called other dealerships and did my homework and is an informed customer. I call out their BS saying that they were the lowest priced and I won't find it elsewhere.
