I remember when I was little getting SO excited to come have breakfast here. Back in the day this was such a treat to come eat here. It was called Michael J's before and then it was BC Cafe. Well we came to have lunch here and we were all pretty dissapointed. The menu had changed and the food was very mediocre. The prices had inflated and that did not make up for the food we ate. The service was ok but I felt like the waitresses could of been a tad bit nicer. They all seemed tired and frustrated, which puts me in a bad mood. How hard is it to crack a smile lady! Went here Sunday at 10 am. It wasn't as crowded as the IHOP or Denny's but it was still pretty busy. Inspite of that, they had extremely fast service. We ordered and the food came out in 5 minutes. Do they have a magic kitchen? And the food... wow. It's good and there's a lot of it... I mean. A LOT... And we only ordered pancakes and french toast. The drinks are even large. At first glance you may think this looks like a generic chain restaurant, but you would be wrong. It's so good! I took my boyfriend here for breakfast (and he is from Long Beach, which has some awesome places, so i really wanted somewhere great) and he ended up getting something called the Pot Roast skillet. Sounds weird, but was so good! Get the avocado with it. He devoured it with pleasure. I had a traditional eggs, pancakes, eggs meal and it was mucho tasty. I'ma put it out there: I'm not exactly a food snob, since I've been known to frequent Jersey diners on the reg, but I don't care for the IHOPs and Denny's of the world. However, when in Rome, do as the Rancho Cucamongans do. And this place surprisingly, didn't disappoint! My friend and I shared two breakfasts (which were meant for, I'm sure, six people judging by the size of them): scrambled eggs and banana pancakes. The eggs were nothing special but the pancakes... holy sweet baby Jesus. I haven't had a pancake in at least five years so, perhaps I am not the best judge here. Even still. Huge, buttery, syrupy clouds of pancakes with fried banana? Come on. Service was actually excellent: really attentive, everything was super clean, it was relatively quiet even on a busy Sunday Labor Day brunch. If breakfast or brunch is your favorite meal, you cannot go wrong hitting up Kick Back Jack for a very satisfying meal. The interior reminds one of Coco's - whether it brings up good or bad connotations I will leave up to you. There is plenty of seating, but if you're coming in on a Saturday breakfast/brunch rush, expect to wait 5-10 minutes for a seat. Once seated, there are a plethora of breakfast items. If you don't do well with lots of options, brace yourselves because this is a paradise for picky eaters. The skillet breakfast is a solid savory option and of course the pancakes are a must order. Awesome comfort breakfast food! I had the dirty fried chicken and biscuits. It was damn good. So good in fact, I dropped my fork on the ground and instead of trying to flag down someone to get me a new one I wiped it off and devoured my meal - because it was that delicious. The fried chicken was so moist and he breaking was flavorful. The dirty cheese sauce they pour over it is insanely sinful and tasty. The home fries were very good as well as the biscuits. I am so impressed with the service and family atmosphere at KBJ's. We were regulars until recently and I cannot believe how kind the staff is. Sam specifically has stood out in my mind because the last time we came she helped my easily agitated 4 year old by going above and beyond by encouraging her to eat her food after lunch we got a scoop of ice cream with endless Oreo toppings. At breakfast this morning Ms. Sam again saved the day and came to my rescue with a plate of Cheerios and orange slices. She turned my daughters frown upside down! We went here for a late breakfast today. The hostess handed the person before us a menu and told him to sit wherever he wanted. I thought that was weird. When it was our turn, she did not acknowledge us at all. I said, "Hi!" And still no response. After a few seconds, she asked how many was in our party and led us to a table. I think she realized she was rude previously because she greeted us with "Good morning" as we were sitting down. Our waitress came and hurriedly took our drink orders. There were 3 kids in our group but she only returned with 2 drinks. She was gone for about 10 minutes before returning so we could ask for another drink. She took our order and seemed to be in such a rush. This is a Wednesday mid-morning. There were customers there, but it wasn't so busy. Not busy enough to constantly rush us and forget to be friendly. About the food. It was great. We had a meat lovers omelette and a carnitas omelette. Hot, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The kids had flapjacks. They we huge, fluffy, and thick. Delicious. The syrup was thin and runny, but very sweet. The portions there are huge. I give the customer service 2 stars and the food 5 stars. I would return for the food, but the customer service really needs to improve. read more

The vibe this place gives off is that of a dated retirement home in Florida. I love hidden gem diners that serve large, hearty breakfasts. (which I sorta feel like this place is trying to emulate) However, they really miss the mark. The food, while plentiful, is not flavorful by any means. I feel like they could do with shortening their menu down and focusing on bringing great flavor to a smaller set of dishes. Also an update on the decor or bringing some sense of a theme to the restaurant would help this place a lot. While the servers were nice, I just didn't love the food and atmosphere as much as some have said previously. Will not be returning. read more

Portions are huge and quality of food is good. I mean the portions are huge! 30 min wait to sit and a little long to get the food but when we did it was overwhelming in a good way. Everybody in the restaurant walked out with leftovers. I ordered chilaquiles and it came with eggs and a pound of Spanish rice. Drinks were large as well. The decor inside is a little weird but amusing to me. One star off because the portion of water is small (weird) and the tap water tastes terrible. I was at Kick Back Jack's for Brunch back in November. It reminded me of the reason why I don't really care for diners. It's a fairly large restaurant that doesn't really look all that clean and the decor was so strange with surfing sea creatures and all, but my kids were very entertained by it. We were 9 people and they put us at two uneven tables that were pushed together that only sat 8 of us. We had to explain several times that we needed a high chair for my two year old and the buss boy suffers from a severe case of halitosis. Not a great trait when working in the food industry. I was worried he was our server as he took our drink order, but eventually a woman came and took our order. While we waited I noticed that the larger family next to us was playing a card game while they waited for their food. Thank God I've been to Rancho several times and know this is not the norm otherwise all the stereotypes of the I.E. we metro L.A.ers laugh about would have been true. I ordered the club sandwich and it was enormous! I can at least say that you do get a lot of food for what you pay. I ate through all the fries which weren't super flavorful and a bit on the soggy side, but the server was pretty good about bringing me a refill of ranch dressing and when that ran out, I used ketchup. (Yeah, the portion is really that big.) I only had room for one of four sandwich sections and it was pretty mediocre, but I felt pretty full after eating and took most of the sandwich home. Thankfully I was in the area for a happy celebration and regardless of the lack of culinary delight and odd setting, it wasn't a terrible place and I will still cherish the resaon that brought me to Kick Back Jack. read more

The co-worker is a total foodie...and seriously weighs 450#'s....or more....so, he knows food.....and was he right. The quality is consistently amazing for the ingredients...all of the bread is baked fresh...including the muffins (banana nut muffin is YUMMY)....I haven't had the same thing twice....and the portions are jumbo tronic..... you can share or take it home for later. Never been for lunch...never will....I would leave well enough alone. The coffee is Kona coffee and good but pricey at like $ 3.00 or something....breakfast is pricey, too about $ 10.00 to $ 15.00...get there EARLY on the weekends or be prepared to wait. I was definitely dancing between strong dislike and plain ol' hatred when I wrote my first review of this place. The veggie scramble still resonates with me as a horrible disaster. After reading through a couple of Yelp! Reviews, I came to realize that the veggie scramble isn't what you should aim for--the waffles, pancakes, and french toast are what draw people in. On a second occasion, armed with this newly-won knowledge, I opted for french toast made with raisin bread. Admittedly, I wasn't fond of it, but I did appreciate the uniqueness. While I'm positive that KBJ isn't the first to use raisin bread to make french toast, I have never had it before. And in my book, you will score higher by failing an adventurous flavor than mastering a standard one. When I returned again, I went for the Waffle and Chicken Crisps. Not Roscoe's, but not bad. The breading on the chicken was a little thick and chewy, if you're particular about crunchiness, but I liked it anyway. The belgian waffle was pretty good, but I'd made the mistake of ordering it with strawberries and cream, and it had been SLATHERED in defrosted strawberries, completely drowning out the taste of the waffle itself. I ended up scraping damn near all of the strawberries off, and dipping the mess into the bavarian cream I ordered on the side. This turned out to be a better option overall. If I don't want another waffle when I return, I will be sure to try a massive pancake. Final Advice: Be wary of the breakfast skillets. I've seen a couple of them, and they all seem to be mostly grease and sloppy toppings. Don't feel like a wimp if you decide to order one dish for two people--it can EASILY satisfy THREE. read more

This place has the BEST Blueberry Pancakes. They are outstanding! Even if your not a fan of blueberries, these are phenomenal! They are also the HOTTEST Hot cakes on the planet. I can't even pick up the bottom pancakes to put butter without burning my fingers. They give you tons so I usually get 1 egg dish and one pancake dish and share. The one in Rancho Cucamonga is roomier. I still like this one though. Sort of on the expensive side for breakfast but it is well worth it! read more

Was looking for a good breakfast and this is the only breakfast spot in Rancho that I know of that serves a decent breakfast. Hadn't been here in a couple years, last time I came the device was terrible and our waitress was so absent minded. This time it was pretty nice, service was good, much better than last time. Ordered a pepper jack cheese omelette with a side of flapjacks (it comes with a side) and I figured it would be pretty filling but when the food came my God the pancakes were huge! I felt like I was trying to make my way through a whole loaf of bread. The flapjacks were pretty tasty! I ordered pepper jack cheese omelette but they brought me a Santa Fe omelette instead but I didn't mind it was still pretty good. Come here hungry or be prepared for a lot of leftovers! I love breakfast and this place didn't disappoint. I've been here twice the first time I ordered off the "small appetite" menu it was one big plate size pancake topped with strawberries, one egg, and I paid extra for a polish sausage and it came with a small fruit juice. The pancake even though it was larger than my head it was light, fluffy and flavorful and sweet. The strawberries were a great accompaniment. I couldn't finish it and I took it home and it was still very good! I love that they offer polish sausage cooked on a flat top grill it was delicious way better than the ordinary bacon or sausage. The second time I came here I came with my parents this time around I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken tenders about 5 huge pieces were beer battered and deep fried the batter is so light and full of flavor and cooked perfectly that overall the light batter and chicken tasted so light and juicy. The BEST chicken tenders I ever had!! Although, the waffles weren't as good as I would hope but not bad. Way better than Roscoe's chicken and waffles but not the texture I've gotten use to when eating at Bruxie that's light, crunchy, airy and dense enough to hold it's shape. But the good thing about this waffle is that it's flavored well. It was just on the heavier side but it went very well with the chicken. Of course I couldn't finish this either but brought it home and it was still as good although a lit' soggy. My mom ordered the same breakfast combo as I had before but with peaches and the peaches were added to the pancake and cooked inside unlike the topped strawberry I had. My dad ordered something very interesting the new Max jack which consisted of 2 pancakes with sausages (my dad's choice) folded into the batter and cooked, topped w/ eggs, cheese and jalapeños and served with salsa on the side. It was insanity! My dad went back and forth from sweet and savory sometimes topping with maple syrup and sometimes w/ salsa. It looked crazy! It was such a huge serving! On the PRO side this place is affordable!! For a breakfast for the 3 of us was $35 with a ton of leftovers! I LOVE breakfast food. I got one of the skillets -- homefries topped with scrambled eggs topped with melted cheese, mushrooms, bacon and other fixings, all served on an iron skillet. Delish! I went to this restaurant a few days ago (Wednesday) for breakfast. based on the reviews on Yelp. Upon entering, the hostess was very prompt. Even if she didn't seem to want to exchange pleasantries, she was prompt. She gave me a booth, but I could never get comfortable with the way the seat cushion felt... it was very 'airy' with the contents moving around. Strange. Also, the table was still wet from being recently wiped-down and all of the table "toppings" (condiments, racks, signs) right in the middle of the table... Kind of an inconvenience to have to move everything out of your way to even look at the menu. A friendly waitress came over pretty quickly and took my drink order (coffee) and gave me time to look through the menu. She returned later, took my order and I asked her for more coffee and cream. Ten minutes later, she returned with my order and said she'd be right back with coffee. Got the coffee but she had to go back for the cream. The food was ok... could have been much better. Toast was cold and hard, but it was thick bread which could have been very tasty. The breakfast skillet (eggs, o'Brien potatoes, hot links and cheese) were warm, not hot like you would expect a skillet to be. The cheese didn't even melt halfway. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like my coffee cup to get empty when I'm having breakfast. I received my first cup after sitting down... and the cup went empty. Second cup arrived when my food did and that went dry. No one else came by with more coffee until after i was done eating and the bill was brought to my table... and it took ten minutes for the bill to get picked-up and (seriously) another ten minutes before my card was returned to me. I may try this place again... I'm not sure. My bill came to $15 (skillet and coffee) and then a tip on top of that? $15 is a lot for breakfast for one... especially when the "experience" leaves you yearning for more. Blech. Service was a bit on top of things, but was awkward. When ordering food, our server asked if we wanted scrambled or runny eggs. Seriously... who does that? Disgusting. Don't advertise your breakfast special comes with a glass of FRESH juice when it's not fresh. Blatant lying to your customers because most wont know the difference right? My sister got the strawberry pancakes which are served with the strawberry slop from a bucket (like what Red Robin uses for its strawberry lemonade). I got the peach pancake which came with a bunch of canned peach chunks inside of it that tasted like canned peach chunks. The main problem with my pancake was that it was not cooked all the way through and was liquid in the middle. Nothing like raw batter to wake you up in the morning. When the meals came out my sister got her pancake on a plate and then her egg and bacon on another. I had my pancake plate and the server asked if there was anything else we needed... I happily chimed just my egg and sausage. She replied oh it's there on your plate.... I proceeded to look down at my pancake plate... and, I kid you not, moved the syrup cup and the worlds smallest egg and 2 sausages were actually hiding behind it. $8 bucks isn't too shabby in today's overpriced world, but the portion size here for the price is stupidly small making it not worth the money at all. My mom chimed "For closing at 3 each day, you think they could keep their carpets clean". Nasty generic food that is way overpriced.
