And after eating there... yeah. They ate. First off, they run that place like the navy. We came during the dinner rush and they got us a table so quick. Our waitress was also so attentive and nice. Onto the meal, I started off with a thai tea lemonade and it was so good. I had a sip and was transported. I never had a thai tea lemonade but the citrus complemented the tea so well. It was like a better tasting asian arnold palmer. For the food, I got the softshell crab curry but I was also tempted by the hung lay. The curry was amazing. There were so many portions of softshell crab which were cooked amazingly and the curry itself had the perfect amount of spice and the flavor was out of this world. Our server was friendly, the food was tasty, although it did seem like most of the items were just a bit warm and not as hot as I'd prefer - granted the restaurant was fully packed and the kitchen must've been backed up with many orders. I'd been previously at a lesser packed moment and everything came out perfectly, so I won't hold too much weight on that. Careful with what you order though. This is hands down my favorite food truck in Austin! I wanted to try because of a tiktok video I saw and wasn't sure what I should get when I ordered but the vendor was super nice and gave a couple of suggestions and we loved everything she recommended! The egg rolls were nice and krispy and sauce was so sweet! The pad Thai was super good! The fried chicken was amazing! Was skeptical about the rip & dip roti but ended up being good as well! Outside the food truck there are picnic table and it's located right next to a small bar so you can enjoy the food outside when it's nice outside or inside the bar when it's cold. We saw this food truck on a number of YouTube must try videos so we had to check it out. The location is right in the heart of south Lamar and in front of a nice indoor/outdoor bar so you can enjoy your food either inside or outside with a drink of choice (a plus for sure). That being said, parking, like most places on S Lamar is a nightmare so good luck during peak hours. We ordered our items ahead online and everything was ready by the time we arrived. Potentially, this was what led me to remove the star... We ordered the killer noodles (ABSOLUTELY BANGING - spice and egg were on point), the roti (also absolutely fab), the crab curry (kinda disappointing), and then a ground beef dish (didn't actually try this - bought it for my brother. His review below). The killer noodles were spectacular - the only issue we had with this dish was that the fried pork belly was just not crispy enough. It didn't crunch and was a bit soggy. The crab curry had similar issues - the soft shell crab had a pretty heady seafood scent (hopefully, this isn't a warning for issues ahead). The fry on the crab was also soggy. The curry itself had a beautiful depth of flavor and was absolutely delish. We think that because we ordered the items ahead and to-go that after the fried items were set in their containers and closed up that this adversely impacted the crispy-ness of the fried items. It would be interesting to read others experience to know if ordering and getting it as soon as possible helped preserve the crisp. The roti was AH-maxing. Perfectly fluffy and flakey and the curry dip - YUM. My brother said the beef dish was "top notch". Overall, a good spot to hit up. I really wanted to enjoy this place, but unfortunately my experience was not good. When we first arrived, the host forgot to put our name on the waitlist, so several parties (about three or four) were seated before us. We only realized something was wrong when we asked, and they apologized and finally sat us. Once seated, service continued to be very slow. Our server took a long time to come take our order, and then our appetizer came out at the same time as our main dishes, which defeats the purpose of ordering an appetizer. The food itself was just okay--nothing terrible, but definitely nothing special or memorable. One of my biggest disappointments was the spice level. When you go to a Thai restaurant, you usually expect to choose your spice level (1-5). I was told they'd bring chili on the side instead, but it never came. The Pad Thai was not spicy at all, and I ended up trying to fix it myself at the table, which is not how it should be served. To top it off, it also took a long time to get our check. Overall, between the waitlist issue, slow service, and lack of attention to details, this was a frustrating experience. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. read more
