Menu was easy to read and it was easy to order. I ordered the teriyaki chicken plate and a kalua pork plate to go. Got my food and was not disappointed by any means! the food was absolutely delicious! The rice was cooked perfectly, the mac salad was so good, chicken was cut up nicely and didn't have a ton of fatty pieces like most places, and the pork... omg the pork was SO flavorful! After Lili's closed, I was honestly a little sad because it felt like Reno had lost one of its few great Hawaiian food spots. It wasn't until I found this place that I got that same good feeling. I ordered the teri beef, and it immediately reminded me of the local-style food from the Big Island. You can tell there's a lot of care and love that goes into the food here, and judging by the steady stream of customers, I'm not the only one who thinks so. We were craving some Hawaiian food and were so delighted to see that Reno/Sparks had just what we were looking for! We ordered the Kalua pork with rice and mac and cheese, poke and pork nacho, and Portuguese sausage. We did take out but the place inside was super clean and the staff was extremely friendly. The Kalua pork was seasoned really well and paired nicely with some taro sweet buns that we had at home. The Portuguese sausage was delicious. I can't believe I haven't updated my review for Kika's in three years. We've gone numerous times and Kika's is our most favorite Hawaiian food place in town. They are definitely the best place to fulfill our island cravings. On Fridays, they have loco mocos as the special of the day and that's what drew us in today. By 12:15 they were out of their regular loco mocos, but they had a special one, where the burger was marinated in teriyaki. We ordered that and a combo katsu+teriyaki chicken plate. My hubby and I shared both plates and it was a fantastic selection of great flavors. The burger had that excellent grilled char we love and the gravy was perfectly savory and seasoned. The katsu chicken was crispy and not overly breaded. Dipped in the katsu sauce made for perfect bites. The teriyaki chicken is a long-time favorite and it too was delicious. The accompanying rice and mac salad complete the quintessential Hawaiian plate meal. Service at the counter was friendly and cheerful. We didn't have to wait too long as we got there just in time before the busy lunch crowd arrivals. It's a comfortable, locals feeling place with great food and service. I liked the Cole slaw with pineapple, and then I put some of the rice in to soak up the juice. Hubby had the beef/chicken combo with rice and Mac salad.... He devoured it all and said the beef wasn't salty a lil salty, but enjoyed the chicken. Staff was friendly and accommodating, answered any of our questions and made our plates to our liking of the items we wanted to try. Place had nice open seating area. Kikas is such an amazing Hawaiian cuisine at an affordable price! Finding the restaurant is a bit difficult on busy South McCarran, but it's totally worth it. I've been craving good, tender pork and Kika delivers with tasty sides to pair. The katsu chicken was also really good, seasoned well and the katsu sauce is addicting. Running errands on a Monday I had to stop by to treat myself with Kikas since the stars aligned and I was in the area and they were open. Ordered ahead while entering Reno from Carson lady on the phone told me 15 mins and it was perfect timing. Got to kikas and my platter was FILLED I was excited. Smelling the katsu in my car filling with sweet, fried chicken cutlet was mouth watering the moment I got home I put my groceries away to properly enjoy my meal. Service was quick and friendly. We all ordered the kalua pork plate. It came with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad. It all came out fairly quick. The pork had a lot of flavor. There was nothing that needed to be added to it. The rice was standard rice you get at any Hawaiian restaurant. The macaroni salad was great. It reminded me of the same stuff you get in Hawaii. First time coming here while in town. I've heard good things and wanted to give it a shot. Rather than go with my usual option, I opted to order whatever the waitress favorite item is. She recommended the poke and pork nachos. It was a bed of won ton chips, warm kalua pork, cold poke, and even colder coleslaw with a sauce on top. I took a pic, but I don't think a pic of a bed of coleslaw would do it justice or look appetizing. Anyways the won ton chips held up crunchy throughout the meal. The warm pork with cold poke and colesalw made for a interesting experience, but I actually really enjoyed it. I killed the nachos fairly quickly and it kept me pretty full most the day. This place was bustling on a Thursday. My coworker seemed to know the place and it sounded amazing. There were a few tables to grab from and you order at the front kiosk. I went with the terriyaki chicken meal it was wonderful! My coworker did the Teri Beef Nachos which were served with won ton chips!! Wow, if only I had known. I noticed there was a variety of meats to choose from with the nachos so this will definitely be my next trip when I'm in the area. With a Hawaiian soda it was close to $20. I almost don't want to do this review, because we came in on a Friday too late once and couldn't get a loco moco cuz they ran out of gravy!! Hasn't happened since, but seriously, they have the absolute best loco moco anywhere. Fantastic char on the burger adds so much flavor, the gravy is off the hook, and the portions are huge. Happy to finally try this place after just missing it each time I've visited previously. There is not a whole lot of variety, but it's ok, I just wanted to try what they have. Cashier was friendly enough, until I told him where I went to high school and after that, he acted disinterested. At any rate, I ordered the teri beef and 2 teri chicken plates, and couldn't wait to get home and try it. The teri beef was okay, but needed more sauce, not only to look like the pictures and taste better. My sons enjoyed their teri chicken plates, but they didn't care for the macaroni salad. Today, I tried their Chicken Katsu and my wife would have their Teri Chicken Plate. She brought it home, I opened up the container, and my eyes widened... The majestic glory of all that Chicken Katsu, the seasoning on their Mac salad and two heaping scoops of steamed rice. The portions were great! The taste of the Chicken Katsu? Crispy and delicious. I stopped by here for a quick light lunch. I wasn't in the mood for something heavy and filling. So I passed on all of the lunch plates that looked so tempting. Instead I just ordered up a side of Mac Salad (3.00) because that is my go to tester for anyplace that sells Hawaiian fare. And then I added a Spam Musubi (3.00). It was enough to keep me running for the rest of the day. I really like the Musubi...but spam is one of my comfort foods AND I rarely get it anymore. The mac salad was a solid option too. Not something I would crave....but I would still enjoy having a helping or two. A couple of large orders were put in right before my turn at the register...but I felt like it was great service to just get my easy order out and get me on my way. I will definitely remember that the next time I come here. The space is a basic formica restaurant. No date vibes but really it is all about the food and the quick service. First time coming here during a lunch break and decided to give it a shot! I do love Hawaiian spots so I wanted to see what made this spot different from the others. I must say that as soon as I walked in, the staff was very friendly and the person at the front was very attentive and very open to share recommendations and answer my questions. She mentioned that the nachos were very popular and I love poke so I decided to order the pork and poke combo nachos for my husband. I also ordered a small order of their lunch plate with Teri beef and it was the perfect portion for me as I'm walking on the healthier side, lol! Also I ordered a spam musubi because I have to, of course! As I waited, I was checking out the ambience and it was very inviting and each of their dining tables have their logos. They were pretty past for ordering to go there on the spot and addressed me by name when my order was ready. Now.... what you have all been waiting for.... was the food good? It was! The Teri beef was beautifully marinated and moist, not dry at all. The nachos were good! They were wonton nachos, so had a nice crunch and the poke was fresh. The only thing that I recommend is eating them dining in, only because when they're to go, the sauces make the chips soggy in certain spots. Now for the spam musubi, the spam was seasoned well but the only down slide is that there was way too much rice, it was a pretty big block and I couldn't even fit it into my mouth, I had to remove a lot of it just to take a bite. My son suggested stopping by his softball buddies place for lunch, and I'm glad we took his advice. Three of us dropped by and ordered the Poke/Pork combo, Teri Beef plate, and Pork plate - with a few musubis on the side. The food was outstanding. The poke had a great flavor and when served over "Nachos" (Wonton chips), it gave the option for some crunch to go along with it. The pork was also spot-on delicious. My wife said she thought the teri beef was some of the best she's had. For me, the pineapple coleslaw was some of the best I've had, I could eat a whole plate of just that stuff.
