Great little place tucked away on the midst of a mostly residential block right beside Chinatown. At first glance, didn't expect much but when we ordered several small plates & a delicious salad I thought the food & restaurant was great. It is much larger than I thought with different back rooms. The grilled octopus was terrific as was the eggplant dish and the salad with feta. The cheese wrapped in phyllo dough was amazing! Kiki's is a great and inexpensive choice if you are looking to have greek food! We went around 7 pm and the hostess told us that there would be an hour and 15 min wait. We got a drink next door at Forgetmenot (also owned by Kikis and has some of their same dishes) and 45 min later our table was ready! First off, the food is definitely 5 stars! The food was delicious! We had the octopus, tzaziki, Greek salad and the lamb chops. All were cooked very well! But...that's about it. The service was terrible. We walked in for an early dinner at 5:30pm on a Saturday night. It took a few minutes for someone to greet us and when she finally did, she gave us two options of tables for us to sit at. We picked one and sat down. After taking off our coats, scarves, etc and getting comfy in our seats, a guy who worked there comes up to us and asks us if we will move to a 2 top since we were sitting at a 4 top. Fine. We moved. Even though she specifically asked us if we wanted to sit there. He takes us to a different table which was filthy so we had to wait for them to clean it up. Mind you the restaurant is at least half empty. We sit down and waited at least 10 minutes for someone to greet us. Our waitress finally comes and asks if we are ready to order. I asked her for recommendations as it was our first time eating at the restaurant and I had to pull it out of her. She was very short and did not sell the menu to us at all. We ordered what we thought and that was basically the last time she spoke to us. They brought us our food and never once asked us if we like it, if we want anything else...nothing! We waited at least 20 minutes in between our food and they didn't say a word to us. I had to ask her to refill my water a few times until she finally did it. I just can't believe the terrible service! After waiting awhile after we finished eating, I had to ask for the check after trying to get someone to stop and talk to us and no "thank you" or anything from them. When we were leaving, no one said bye or thank you to us. Very strange. We were at Cervo's around the corner the night before and the food was amazing but also so was the service! I would go back to Cervo's in a heartbeat. Kiki's definitely needs to learn customer service (maybe they can learn a thing or two from Cervo's). I could tell by it's color that the taramasalata would be excellent and I was right. Mild and not too salty. The fried zucchini was good but not great. I appreciated the very light batter but they were very greasy. The roast lemon chicken with potatoes was the biggest disappointment. YES. I've been waiting for a place that hits the spot as well as Kiki's has. Don't get confused by the fact that their awning doesn't have their name on it. This place is sensational. Quality food with amazing flavors. I already love Mediterranean food, but they do everything right. If you don't know where to start...get the octopus salad. It will change your life. Flavorful, grilled to perfection, and not dry in the least. I also got moussaka which was an explosion of delicious flavor. This had eggplant, potato, ground beef, and a healthy dollop of love. Miss the whole "No Soup for You!" experience? Try Kiki's and get kicked out by Glen the manager like we did. We were looking for a fun, casual place with good food to take out some friends who are in town for a while, as one of them is beginning radiation therapy at Sloan-Kettering. We were recommended Kiki's for the food, although warned about the cold and standoffish behavior from the host staff, an all too common bad habit some trendy places seem to think they need to adopt to seem cool. No worries, no hurry, we all agreed to meet there at 6:15. Our friends got there much earlier, and were happily waiting at the bar. They did approach the hostess to try to check in for a table, only to be told that the place only seats complete parties. Again, no hurry, no worries. Once we arrived, we told the hostess we all were here, and she proceeded to seat several other parties who arrived after us. My friend did mention this to her in a very casual manner, and she huffed off, returning with Glen, a tall Aussie (?) with a huge attitude. He breezily informed us that we had a table... across the street in a spillover location, reached over us, grabbed the wine bottle off the bar, said "let's go!", spun around and sped off, outside the door, and across the street in the rain before we had a chance to gather our wits. Once we followed his trail (he was long gone) into the place across the street, we were unceremoniously shown to our table, a four top immediately next to the single door, which every time it was opened would let in a blast of cold, wet air. The space itself was dark and sparse, not even a close comparison to the well-lit, bustling space for the regular restaurant. Glen kept asking us if we were happy here, but not offering any options! We explained to him several times that we were happy at the bar and would have waited a lot longer there but this place was not to our liking. We even asked to move to an open five-top (there were lots of open tables in this sub-space), but were rudely told that was not an option. All through this encounter, Glen was not just rude - he was aggressively rude. Again, he repeated that he wanted us to be happy (in a rude monotone), yet resisted offering us any options but that table! Defeatedly we said fine, we'll sit here, and then my wife said "but I'm giving this place a bad review". That really triggered Glen, here, who got in her face and said "well, if you're going to leave a bad review anyway, then get out of MY restaurant". And just like that... we were ejected by Glen. There's a first time for everything, and this was my first time getting kicked out of... well, anywhere! It seems that Glen is an owner (he did say "get out of my restaurant" many times), or an over-entitled manager with all kinds of personality issues. Glen, if you're reading this, I hope you are proud of yourself, kicking out four people in the rain, just because you were offended with the "threat" of a bad review, and after you rudely marched us from the cozy bar across the rain to your B space, without giving one hoot about our preferences. And Glen's boss(es), if you're reading this, and if you would rather have a decent human being running your place - fire Glen now. He's toxic. Anyway we ended up going next door and trying to have a nice dinner, but the evening had been ruined by Glen. Not sure why he's so unhappy, but we should not have had to deal with this kind of rudeness. read more

Went to Kiki's for the first time a few weeks ago with a few friends who had been there many times before. So happy they decided to take me here because the food was incredible. Everything we ordered was delicious. We shared every dish we got, so I got to taste lots of new flavor pairings. The house wine was also excellent. The atmosphere was also great. Really good quality greek food. It's not like any normal restaurant. We had to wait 1,5h to get a table, but it was worth it.. The table is lit by a candle so it's hard to read the menu, but it does create a good vibe. Asked the waiter for recommendations on tapas; all his recommendations were amazing. We ordered tzatziki, spanakopita, spanakorizo, zucchini chips, grilled octopus, roasted lemon patatoes and a salad. Definite favorite were the patatoes and octopus! My boyfriend and I heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and we really looked forward to go there. I'm so sorry to say but this place is absolutely unpleasant. I made all in all two attempts to get there and I won't definitely go a third time. It's just crowded and noisy. The staff isn't friendly at all, customer orientation seems to be a foreign word here. After my boyfriend and I waited in line for approx 30 minutes we got offered a high table (which was funny, because I walked on crutches at this time), I was pretty shocked about this inflexibility and was about to leave the restaurant. Surprisingly now it was possible to get a regular table. Nice try, but I decided to leave anyway. After a couple of weeks I thought I learned my lesson and tried to make a reservation. The person on the phone was just rude and replied: "we don't take reservations" and hung up. Without a goodbye or anything else. I'm so so sorry, when this is customer orientation at your place, I'd love to spend my money somewhere else. read more

i loved all the food but they're all small and pricey. i went in on a thursday night around 8pm. no wait. i was seated at the bar while a table was available. i ordered house wine which was not my taste so i would not recommend that. i started ordering the octopus. finished it very quickly because it was quite yummy and the dish was way too small. got seated and ordered the snapper. the snapper has a lot of meat but it also has a lot of bones if you're not into that. the potatoes that came along with this dish were literally 4 strips of potato wedges. i wasn't full so i ordered the meat dish which contained of 3 small beef patties and french fries. i enjoyed this dish more. read more

This is my favorite Greek restaurant in Manhattan. The place is cozy and actually has a "european" restaurant vibe, it's very warm and slow, with jazz music and not too much noise. I also appreciate that the waiters don't bother me by asking every 5 seconds if I'm doing ok. And the food is actually cooked, and not a fast foody random mash up of cheddar / bacon / eggs and bread (which I do love as well, but a lot of places do just some variation of that and are just as pricy). read more

A mid-sized Greek restaurant on the border of Chinatown and the LES, Kiki's floor plan has basically doubled since they started out, but its popularity has more than kept up. There are three main rooms, all of which get a good amount of sunlight but are on the darker side at night. The crowd is mostly late 20s and 30s, and it gets packed around the weekend (waits can get to 2 hours). The menu includes options both heavy and light, vegetarian and meat-centric. My favorite meal at Kiki's begins with the tyrokafteri. This is a spicy feta dip that comes with buttery seasoned toast and pita, and can be treated as a main if you are in the mood for cheese and bread and nothing else. For the entree, nothing beats their mousakka. This heavy potato, eggplant and minced meat dish is full of flavor, very savory and slightly sweet, and will warrant unbottoned trousers and slight discomfort if finished in one sitting. (Honorable mentions: lamb frikasse and mama's oven-roasted chicken. YiaYia's lemon potatoes. Yum.) Then it's cheesecake time. If you don't like cheesecake, I still think you should try it. It's amazing. The baklava is delicious, but if you get the baklava make sure you also get the cheesecake. FUN FACT: If the line at Kiki's is too long, head two doors over on Division St. to Forgtmenot and you will notice some select Kiki's items in the bottom right corner of their menu. I did not have a pleasant time at this restaurant. I arrived after 11:30pm on Saturday night. When I walked in there were several empty tables. The hostess brought two of us in and she asked us where would we like to sit. I said that we would love to sit at the empty table by the window. She said she will just confirm if we can sit there. She returned and said we can't sit there because it sits four people and they are waiting for a possible walk in of four people. I was shocked because there were many open tables of all sizes throughout the restaurant since it was almost midnight. I wasn't pleased because it didn't make sense that we couldn't sit there while there were many open tables. The hostess after seating us walked off and loudly said a nasty comment which i and several people could hear. I immediately told her that was uncalled for and told the manager. The manager was nice and making up for the rude Hostess and said he would talk to her and take care of it. I told him that she is in the service industry and calling names or disrespecting patrons is never acceptable. He agreed and apologized for her. She came back and apologized. While we had our appetizers the manager said we don't except anyone to come in anymore so we can sit at the table that we originally requested! He said they were trying to be "strategic" about where to sit people. It really didn't make sense in the first place why they wouldn't let us sit there as again it was almost midnight at this point and there were many many open tables of all sizes! The hostess was horrible and should reconsider being in the service industry. The staff needs to understand that even though its a downtown restaurant and can be packed this is not a club with a velvet rope and the service still needs to be first rate and customers need to be treated with respect. This is the china town gem you never knew existed. Some of the best no fuss, authentic Greek food we've had in New York. The mixed meat plate seems as though it's from an old Greek family recipe. The house white wine is Delish and they serve in aluminum carafes. Just a lovely lovely experience we will be back. Only tip is to get there early! read more

I'm so torn by this place. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I got the spanakopita and the avgolemono soup, while my friend got the oven-roasted chicken. We also shared a plate of fries and pita (on the house IIRC). My friend didn't really find anything special about her oven-roasted chicken. She wasn't too fond of the sauce they used, and said it was a bit sour (it's Greek food tho). I've had better spanakopita and avgolemono. They also just placed us in the tiniest seating area ever.. The thing that really hurts me the most about this place is that it's so gentrifying and hipster it kind of destroys my soul. I was looking for this place after reading so many Yelp reviews, and I didn't think I was going to find it in a place that pretty much still uses the old Chinese signage from the previous business like it's some decoration. This was the area that I grew up in, and I don't think the new generation that's moving into the LES/Chinatown realizes that a lot of these things mean a lot to us, so by keeping the previous business's name as your storefront like it's some sort of prop is hurtful. tldr; good food. much hipster. wow read more

Not sure what people are complaining about below... Went here with 2 people. All had a main course, a coffee and desert for under 70$. Everything was super cheap, and tasted good. Main thing that sucked was the wood on the table top was water damaged/ curved covexly and the table kept rocking even after the waiter adjusted shims under feet. Other than that try to beat the price, the chill atmosphere and the size of portions in this neighborhood. I live here and i don't think I can get Mexican here cheaper and have everything as delicious and presentable as it was... It missed it while trying to find it, just walked passed it since it has a Chinese sign on the top. threw me off! Im not a fan of the ambiance for it being a Greek restaurant. It seemed very hipster and was super loud and the space is a bit tight. Also they just have one bathroom and I had to wait a long line to use it. Really cool place to come for drinks and apps. The restaurant is pretty large with different rooms, and overall has a pretty good ambiance. I can't speak for the entrees, but my friend and I shared the tzatziki dip and fried calamari. I generally don't love tzatziki, but it was really good and found myself eating a lot of it, ha. The calamari came out piping hot, was very fresh, and was a large portion. We shared a bottle of rose that was also delicious. Get here before 7pm during the week to avoid a long wait. read more
