We had quite a poor experience here. It looks like a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant from the outside, but it is ginormous inside. We walked in at 7pm on a Sunday, and all the tables were empty. It was eerie. The restroom was very dirty. The 3-in-1 cashier/server/cook who had a very couldn't-care-less attitude took our orders at the counter. I ordered the grilled pork banh mi. The bread tasted a little weird, but otherwise it was fine. Tragedy struck when my friend who ordered the pork and shrimp spring rolls received spring rolls with only lettuce. I tried it, and it was gross. She informed the 3-in-1 employee, who proceeded to make them again. She brought them to our table, told us that she was "on another planet," and said "at least you get free spring rolls," in reference to the gross lettuce rolls. However, these new spring rolls had shrimp, but no pork. The travesty! Defeated, my friend ate her spring roll as she did not want to ask again for her proper order to be made. She only ate 1 of 2 rolls as it was unpleasant to eat. I wonder what secrets Kim Phung hides, as I wouldn't be surprised if they engage in shady activities. I read a review about how they seemingly impersonate other restaurants on delivery apps.

Proof that 7601 N Lamar Blvd = Kim Phung restaurant.

BEWARE!!! I am giving Kim Phung 1 star because they are being dishonest and are impersonating Super Thai Cuisine on both Door Dash and Grubhub. Yesterday, I ordered what I thought was Super Thai Cuisine on Door Dash and paid over $40. My delivery driver then delivered an order from Kim Phung. I tried reporting this to Door Dash but they said a merchant is allowed to name themselves whatever they'd like to on their platform. I think it's dishonest and wrong of Kim Phung to impersonate another establishment (one that nearly has 5 stars) for financial gain. Yelpers, please know that if you try to order Super Thai Cuisine online and you see "7601 N Lamar Blvd" you are getting Kim Phung and not Super Thai!! Go in person and stay off Door Dash and Grubhub! If you look at Kim Phung's other reviews, it looks like in the past they have also impersonated other Austin restaurants. So wrong!!

As I was casually looking at the menu on the wall outside, I see this lady make a beeline for the door. There was no hesitation in her demeanor, this lady knew what she wanted! I stopped her right before she opened the door, I said excuse me is this place any good? She stopped and said "Oh yes it's like the best in this entire area! It's been around like forever, I've been coming here for years". So as we both walk up to the counter to make an order, she already had one waiting for her. She begins to chit chat with the man behind the counter like they knew each other by name, probably cause they did! Proof that she definitely has been coming here for years. At this point I'm like okay, this is definitely going to live up to her hype. So I ordered the Rice Clay Pot House special, cause that sounds different from my usual. There's also no way im leaving without trying the fried dumplings. Everything was amazing! I almost thought there was no rice (was at the bottom), that's how much meat and vegetables they put in my dish! I'm usually more of a fan of steamed dumplings but man these fried dumplings hit the spot as well. I walked out of that restaurant feeling like Buddha. haha The guys working the counter were very nice. There was no one really in the restaurant. It was kind of a ghost town which is surprising cause they had like 30 tables, I guess they have their rushes at certain times. Maybe when it's more busy they have waiters or something but it's kind of like self-serve. This place is worth checking out!

Just not a good experience overall. From ordering, to the food presentation, taste, and taro root boba. This particular chicken Chinese dish just didn't look very appetizing nor was the taste up to par. The boba was overcooked and was disintegrating already. Also the corner near the entrance has kids play sets stacked up. Other than that, the restaurant looked clean.

Terrible representation of a shrimp spring roll.
    Tisha T.

Quite literally the worst shrimp rolls I've ever had. These are made with iceberg lettuce and bean sprouts. No rice noodles what so ever. Also the shrimp were not deveined. That's just lazy and gross. Also if you're going to upcharge a dollar for shrimp-- there should be more than 2 shrimp, cut in half mind you, per spring roll. Just cheap and disappointing for no reason. Avoid.

The greenest curry i ever did see

My office is on the block, and there really aren't many food options, so this is a mainstay among me and my colleagues... unfortunately. The Vietnamese food is decent, but please don't stray away from the Vietnamese to their other cuisines. I once ventured out and got their green curry and it was this super unappetizing color of lime green, plus the curry sauce was super sweet and congealed.

General Tso's Tofu, Yellow Thai Curry Tofu and veggie egg rolls. These are my favorite items to order.

Is this Nuclear Radiation green curry just for gimmick sake or what? It tastes pretty good. I mean it's got a robust and full flavor for a curry. I'm just worried I'm going to grow a third eye or something. The pork egg rolls were great too. I'll definitely be back. At $15 it's the cheapest chicken curry in Door Dash, too. Also a bonus. (Ignore the salmon in the picture. That was made at home. Haha)

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.

The…read moreThai basil leaves were absolutely ginormous, and they gave us plenty of them alongside very fresh limes, which I appreciated. The bowl itself came loaded with meat--they definitely weren't skimping to save money here. The meat-to-noodle ratio felt great, and every bite actually had substance instead of leaving me fishing around for toppings. As for the broth, I landed somewhere in the middle. It wasn't quite as clear or light as I personally prefer, leaning toward a fattier, milkier undertone that almost reminded me of a Vietnamese pho take on tonkotsu. The flavor itself was undeniably very good, but the richness may have been a bit too much for me personally. One way I usually judge how much I love a pho broth is whether I want to sip the bowl down to the very end, and this one wasn't quite light enough for me to want to do that. I've had richer and deeper pho flavors elsewhere, but I still appreciated the flavor profile here and could absolutely see why this place is so popular. It feels hearty, comforting, and satisfying in a way that clearly resonates with many people. Despite how packed the restaurant was, the atmosphere ended up being surprisingly pleasant. Service moved very quickly, which honestly impressed me given how busy everything felt. Even with the crowd, I didn't dislike the spacing or setup at all--the restaurant still felt comfortable, and the sound of people enjoying their food all around added to the lively, welcoming energy rather than making it feel overwhelming. Overall, Pho Phong Lưu ended up being one of those places where I completely understood the hype, even if it didn't become my personal favorite pho spot. While the broth leaned richer than my preference, I still enjoyed the experience and definitely look forward to trying other dishes next time.

And honestly it's better than any fancy restaurant out there. I love the amount of plants in the space and the TV plays cooking videos and it's so nice to watch while waiting for your food! Speaking of waiting for your food, the food comes out super quick! Within 1 minute of ordering my drink, it came out! And a couple minutes after follows the food. The service is amazing as well, the servers are super sweet and are very quick to serve you and get what you need. The menu offers a bunch of things, appetizers, main dishes, desserts, and the drinks! I love how the desserts and drinks are also Vietnamese (most of the time I notice restaurants tend to have the basic selection of fountain drinks and desserts, but this restaurant has a wide variety of drinks and desserts so you can try something new every time you come here!) Most of all, there's a bunch of vegan dishes which I absolutely love. The food is always delicious I've been trying the vegan dishes recently and I love them a lot (as someone who doesn't like vegan dishes normally)! The chicken pho is also so delicious it tastes better than I make it at home! So much flavor. The drinks are so good as well. They also give you a big portion and I normally have leftovers, but the portion size is amazing for the price that you pay. It's definitely more affordable and such a bang for your buck. This is definitely a spot to try and trust me, you'll probably fall in love! If I was an Austin tourist I would definitely hit up this restaurant. I could go on and on about this restaurant.
