This is the new concept that replaced Galewood pub, which I did visit a handful of times. Did not get a great welcome on a Saturday night. 5:45 arrival. No one at the door. A sign stated the main seating section was closed. We walked into bar area and luckily there was a high top for two. We almost had another couple join us. Had we been four we would have turned around and left. It's Saturday night. You need someone on the door to direct traffic. Now, the main section did open around 6:00. If there was a sign, we missed it. Now to the beer. Or lack thereof. My wife ordered, and nope, they were out of that. I tired to order and again, they were out. Apparently they had a large private party the day before and ran out of some beers. I guess this happens? Not in my experience but OK. The food was good. Wife had the tomato soup and grilled cheese. Three cheeses on sourdough. Crispy and melty. Soup may have had cheese curds in it. Hard to say for sure but delicious. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Good flavor. Could have been a tad hotter, just saying. I don't know where they get the fries, but they are phenomenal. Like mini crunchy baked potatoes. Delicious. Shout out to the bartender. Watching her command of making a few drinks made me want to order a couple that she made. And it seemed she was running the show for the whole area. It still has the nice neighborhood vibe. A bit pricey for the area, but then eating out is just that way now. I would like to see a separate menu of specialty cocktails to go with the name of the place. It feels like a miss. Great local place near home with great food and decent seksction of beer too. I've been here several times now and everything I've tried was excellent. The list includes: Brisket sandwich - delicious Burger - Perfectly prepared to order. Soft pretzel - nice Fish tacos - A little heavy on the aeoli sauce for my taste, but very good. Chili - Great starter Minestrone soup - very good. (I hear all their soups are quite good.) And their Saturday night prime rib. Perfectly cooked to order. I typcally sit in the pub rather than the restaurant. Staff has been great, too. Very attentive and fun group. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

Very good sear on their tender steaks! They were able to accommodate my dietary needs. We sat in the back room and we could overhear other table's conversations because it was quiet. It would be nice to have some background music in that room. Overall my family enjoyed their experience, and we felt that the owner really cares about service. read more

Went for dinner during the first week after reopening. The facelift the new owners gave the restaurant is incredible. This is going to be a cool new spot to hang out. They are now open for lunch too and the quality of food is outstanding. My son said "these are the best chicken strips ever". You could tell they were hand breaded. We were treated so well. The food was delicious. I loved the wine glasses and some other unique features. Someone mentioned in a prior review that they didn't get utensils, well... they are in the bin on the table! We have been going to this location for many years, through a few ownership and name changes. Kindred may be the best. Great food and service. The Burger and the Melt can't be beat. We recently went to Kindred for dinner. We were happy to hear the live music and to order new menu items. The salad and dressing were good and very fresh. Everything was good. A nice touch was the servers and bartender remembered us and were very welcoming. What a friendly staff! This is a great place. The decor is cozy and welcoming too. We will be back! read more

Went to Kindred hesitantly after previous restaurants at this site. I was pleasantly surprised. We sat in the bar area. My husband was super excited they served RC products :) We had chips with salsa and guac. Just a little too much garlic for me. We had the Rueben Sandwich, which while people are saying was expensive, was both huge and delicious. I ordered prime rib sliders. When I bit into them it was very tasty and tender. As I took another bite, I realized that I was given the hamburger sliders. They were so good I decided not to say anything and keep the burgers. Service was great. Our waitress was lots of fun. Great experience. Note: something needs to be done aesthetically on the dining room side. Still looks like Country House, just painted. read more

Thumbs up on the new pub. We'd go back. Everyone liked their food (three burgers, chicken tacos and prime rib special). We got chicken tenders for an app and they were definitely made there. I enjoyed my raspberry Prosecco cocktail. Music was modern & relaxing. We sat in the bar area by the window. It was a bit chilly, but wouldn't prevent us from returning. It was seat yourself, but we were acknowledged right away and service was great all evening. Much better experience than Galewood Pub or the Mexican place that were previously in the same location. Checked out the pub now under new ownership. The staff was friendly and attentive. We had the Reuben rolls for an appetizer which were meaty and delicious. For dinner I had the grilled chicken wrap which was outstanding. Others in our group had the brisket tacos and swiss & shroom burger and everyone really enjoyed their meals. Redeemed themselves with great service. Said they found my prescription sunglasses. Giving them another try on food which want bad at all. I just didn't like silver plopped in a pile in middle of the table nor empty glasses left on table during dinner. Having dined at Country House and Friaco - wanted to try out the latest during "Lisle Restaurant Week" which is 3 days. Went to dinner with some friends that had been here. When you first walk in, there is no longer a greeter desk, and you are on your own to go left to the bar area or right to the dining area ? It later became obvious there were only 2 staff members and bartender for the entire restaurant and bar. We sat and ordered drinks - they were out of a couple of selected wines. Then ordered dinner. They use a handheld TOAST device for placing orders, billing, etc. When the food came, it was luke warm and one order was wrong. She apologized as she hit the wrong button, but re-ordered it correctly. Took awhile to get the new plate. After dinner, billing time. Went over the printed bill - and there were actually TWO entries for the wrong dinner... the original and the re-order - and both were charged. We brought it to their attention, and they reversed it and offered some other comps.... SO - read your bill ! - all in all - was it worth it.... hard to say - maybe will try it one more time. read more

I just had my last meal at Galewood Pub. The food was ok, the service was ok, but what is prompting my 1 star rating is a note that I saw in the menu and how it related to my bill. There was a note that said a 3% surcharge that would be added to every bill, but that I could ask for it to be removed. This charge is to help them through this hard economic time. I did see these types of charges at other restaurants during Covid, but this is the only time I have seen it in quite a while, and from what I can see restaurants are pretty packed again. Yes, I could have asked them to remove it, but then I would be the A**H*** - Thank you Galewood for projecting that on me. So, then I get the bill of $87.50 before tax, $93.63 after tax, so 3% would be less than $3 right??, nope surcharge of $3.41... hmmmmm. I know, $3.41 is not a huge amount, someone in my party suggested that we just subtract that from the tip, but why should I punish the waitress for the actions of the business? So ultimately if I go to this restaurant because I like the food and atmosphere, that will cost me 3% or more, because the owners are bad at running a business? Sorry, but this restaurant is not worth a surcharge or the effort to confront a server over this. People may say I'm petty over squabbling over this small amount - but apparently this amount is worth the restaurant to guilt customers into paying so you can decide who is the AH. Had a wonderful time at the renewed Galewood Pub! Great beer selection, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the cheese curds and mini sliders for an app... both were in point! For dinner we had the crispy chicken sandwich and the Mac and Cheese w a side salad. It was so good, we had nothing left on the plate to rave about! High five to the new owners! I just paid a 2nd visit to Galewood Pub and once again was not disappointed. This hidden gem in a strip mall in Lisle offers great food at a very fair price. Dining is in back and in the front pub area. I hate to review the place too well as it might be harder to find a table during busy times but I cannot tell a lie! The maitre d John made every effort to sit my friend and I right away despite the shortage of open tables. I loved the shrimp tacos and will order them again! I look forward to going back soon to try out more items on their menu. read more

Restaurant manager was unable to fully understand good customer service when asked about the language on a menu item. Instead of making the best of a situation he insisted that I the customer had read the menu incorrectly and did nothing to rectify the poorly worded menu. Subsequently my party was left with a bad taste in our mouths and an agreement to not return. Maybe this restaurant doesn't need business? No doubt we will take ours elsewhere. read more

My husband and I stopped At Kindred and had their Special - The Fish and Chips. It was the best we ever had. It was perfect! The homemade coleslaw and fries were excellent as well. The service was superb. We highly recommend. read more

Gave the new place a try and wasn't that impressed. We ate in the barroom. Food was solid, wine is over-priced, but cocktail reasonable. Never received flatware, had to ask bartender for napkins. We visited Galewood last night for a private party and it was such a hit! Haven't been in here since country house and they did such a great job updating it! Looks great inside, fantastic decor . Food was delicious- upscale bar food . We had nachos, flatbreads, poppers, sliders, it all was delicious. The drinks were great too. Everyone who worked there was so prompt in helping and very kind. Great local pub that opened in late 2021 in a former Country House location in Lisle. Our first visit but glad we went! Everyone we encountered was very friendly and accommodating. The We went on an early Friday evening (~6:30pm) and were seated immediately. menu is huge! Lots of the usual pub classics but some with unique interpretations. I had a Cubano sandwich made with pulled pork that was very tasty. Wife's nachos were just "ok" (chips were thin and not the sturdier "restaurant style" she expected and toppings were somewhat sparse. Prices are very reasonable given current food costs. Regardless, happy to have this friendly new place just down the road and look forward to going back soon!! read more

Decided to give this place a try after driving by everyday to and from work. We sat in the bar area,which is changed from what the country house was.They have a bigger bar and a garage door which was open.Really a great renovation ! Huge menu selection. Had the brisket sandwich (excellent),wife and son's friend had burgers,and son had chicken wings. All good! We ate everything ! Fair prices,great service .It was a full bar on a Friday evening, and we were sat down quickly.Met and talked with one of the owners. So nice and friendly ! Give this place a visit,you won't be disappointed.Remember that these places were and are struggling in this tough market.This is a great neighborhood place to come and hang out for drinks and food ! After attending a conference at the local university, a colleague who is from the area recommended Galewood. I highly recommend- this is not your average pub. Definitely upscale in appearance, personnel, and food. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and very accommodating. Nice selection of beers on tap. I HIGHLY recommend the chicken nuggets. Not the traditional- quite large with a really light batter. So good. My friend ordered the loaded nachos which are a meal in itself. Definitely upscale and a cut above the rest.
