I loved Kingside when it was located on the north side of Maryland. I visited almost every Sunday for four years. After they moved to the corner of Euclid and Maryland, something went awry. The service was very slow and the food was mediocre at best. A big disappointment. read more

Tried a new brunch spot this past week and was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Kingside Diner. It's chess-themed because of its location -- it's next to the Guinness world record giant chess piece! The inside is a bit retro. They had the Olympics playing during breakfast. I came in around 8 am and was promptly seated. They have fancy, gourmet flavored lattes and my server recommended the Snickers latte. It tasted like a regular caramel latte, nothing special, but a bit expensive. I wanted something light so I ordered their bagel and lox -- capers, smoked salmon, tomatoes, cream cheese, and red onions came on the side. You can't really mess up a bagel and lox IMO! It was delightful and I felt pleasantly full after my meal. Overall: I probably would come back again with a group if they wanted to go, but I wouldn't go on my own again. Awesome diner for breakfast & brunch. They are also open for dinner 4-10 Thursday through Saturday. Some breakfast items are on the dinner menu as well. There is also a full bar. Unfortunately I didn't get many pics as I was there after dark on a cold icy evening. Perfect timing and location to enjoy a musical performance at World Chess Club after dinner. Inside is super clean and features some chess decor. There is a cozy lounge area set up with chess boards. Plenty of outdoor seating when weather permits. Our group of five was promptly seated with menus; and server brought water for everyone immediately. Cynthia gave excellent attentive service throughout our meal. Portions were generous, almost enough for two meals. Everything is served on real dishes with linen napkins. We all declined carry out since we had plans immediately afterwards. Cynthia knew we were on a time crunch and expedited payment so we wouldn't be late. I'll definitely go again and look forward to enjoying the patio. This place has an amazinggggg breakfast menu. We came here before our Saturday shenanigans and the food was so tasty and filling. I ordered the Johnny Cash breakfast sandwich and was wowed by the flavor. It really hit the spot. My fiancé ordered the blueberry pancakes and was very happy with his choice. DAMN DELICIOUS, and Damn good service, and Damn good vibes! I'm not from St Louis, so Kingside seems to be a staple of sorts. I saw the menu offerings and had to try. One item caught my eye, the damn delicious offering! The damn delicious is a croissant, filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, and smothered with white gravy & sausage, with a side of hash browns! I'm telling you this is DAMN GOOD! And filling! Just as important, the service was attentive and happy! Claire was amazing! The music provided a vibe, and the window view allowed me to soak in the hustle of the day. Words can't even begin to describe how happy I am we decided on breakfast today. Since breakfast isn't that big on my list it ma always a big surprise to myself when I actually ice joy it. This morning after dropping off the little one we stopped by for a little coffee and breakfast and when I say it's better then the take out. I have a very big back when it comes to good food so when I say I smash's the red lobster biscuit on steroids with that gravy while my wife was still taking pictures of her food some of the best biscuits I've ever had gravy was a little salty for my liking but I still scrapped the bowl. My Skillet was packed full of flavor, layers of meat and cheese on hash browns I was in heaven. Might have been the Mimosas I don't know but everything was a 10 wife wasn't a fan of the ham steaks...this time but aye we still took it home. Now at first look the seating in there looked very limited but as you walked more towards the back there is a lot more space for you and your love ones. Our waitress was very nice as attentive. I used to frequent the Clayton Kingside location and remember it fondly. However, this experience left something to be desired. I don't feel that our server was very attentive, but I forget what her name was. Furthermore, when it was time to be seated, my girlfriend was distracted looking outside. After I got her attention and turned around, the hostess had already walked back so swiftly that I had to jog behind her to catch up. This in combination with the lack of server attentiveness left a bitter taste in my mouth. We visited on a Friday morning, so they weren't crazy busy by any means. Similar to our other experiences, the food was just mediocre. My hash browns were kind of soggy and the omelette eggs didn't taste super fresh. For the quality of food and service I got, it was very overpriced. However, I will say that the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The TVs were a little overstimulating, but it's a nice location and well-decorated. Never disappointed with breakfast at Kingside. Had the Breakfast Salad with two poached eggs this morning - my dream breakfast. Jeff tossed his hash browns in since he doesn't eat potatoes. The potatoes added the perfect touch. Since things have cooled down a bit, we ate on the patio this morning. Your 5 oz mimosas made with apple cider, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and blood orange are wonderful. I also had the To Bee Or Not To Bee Brioche French toast with honey infused mascarpone, blackberries and bananas OMG Out of this world. I had a side of chicken sausage that we shared, it is very tasty. I would buy it instead of pork sausage if I could find it somewhere. My husband had the Damn Delivious it is the savory partner to my breakfast! The couple we were with had Make Your Move and Chicken Fried Steak. They loved theirs as well. I was here on a Saturday at 7:30 or 8:00. I was excited because I've been here before and it was great, even the airport location. However... this experience was terrible. Two stars is generous. Food was incredibly underwhelming, cheese was not melted on a warm meal (which was not warm, obviously). I also found a hair in my food that was definitely not mine. Part of the meal was not brought out, and we hardly saw our waitress the whole time so it took awhile to be corrected. Our waitress also brought out the syrup like 15 mins before we got our food, so it was no longer warm and had congealed on the top. Overall, I would not recommend this place anymore. It went from being a top recommendation in the past to a total 0/10. I may try a different location in the future. read more

I love breakfast and this place was really good! We went on a Sunday morning and got seated right away. Plenty of parking in the area and it's free on Sunday's so that was nice. I got the drink that was on special and it was really good and super pretty! For my meal I got a ham and cheese omelet, side of bacon, and a pancake. We came here after walking in Forest Park. We brought our dogs and we were able to sit outside on the patio. We ordered Irish coffees that were just okay. The burger and the chicken sandwich were good. They have different aïoli's that are perfect for dipping fries in. The server did a great job and the ambience was very casual. Went to the Kingside Diner in the Central West End for lunch. I like getting breakfast for lunch so I ordered "Make Your Move". It came with two eggs, hash browns, choice of meat, and toast. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly with no runny eggs. My hash browns were crispy. For my choice of meat I went with ham. It was a mini ham steak that was grilled in butter. It was exceptional. For my bread I went with wheat toast. The food came to the table hot. They have an outdoor patio but it wasn't open because it wasn't warm enough. Parking in the Central West End can be challenging. I recommend parking in the lot across the street on Maryland. read more

No orders were placed and she was being a total snot about it. Then we got our breakfast skillet, it didn't have all 3 of the meats listed on the menu in it and it was bland and relatively cold. 3 of us got the same thing so that was very disappointing. For a brunch spot, Kingside diner has it covered. The omelettes are tasty and the fact that they offer a side salad as the side provides a healthy option, a nice departure from the majority of brunch delights typically found. The one star less is on account that the food is well executed but not incredible by any means. The setting is nice, urban, & plugged in at the heart of the central west end. Kingside Diner has brought a much-needed expansive breakfast/brunch place to the CWE. The downside is they do not take reservations and are at a wait pretty much every weekend. The food is good--my go to is the "Damn Delicious" which is just that! I recently had the STL slinger which was great as well. They have a pretty large menu with standard breakfast fair as well as some creative options. The mimosa flight was....not good. We didnt enjoy any of them unfortunately. I went to Kingside Diner for brunch and ordered the Strawberry Shortcake French Toast. It was disappointing. The only parts of it that was strawberry shortcake-like were the couple strawberry slices on top and the strawberry icing/syrup drizzle on top. The icing/syrup was very artificial tasting. Also, there was supposed to be a cream filling to the French toast, but it was just normal toast with no filling. I came on a Saturday afternoon and there was a one hour wait. There is a nice outdoor seating area in addition to the indoor seating. The service was not the best, as my friend had to repeatedly ask for his drink before it finally came (plus it was just a soda). Overall, Kingside Diner is rather disappointing. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's bad, but it certainly isn't that great. read more
