Not a bad divey/sports bar. The place was dark, family friendly, but not too loud. It was somewhat off of the beaten path, but it's location added to its charm. I would totally make it a normal hangout if I were a local. I'm pretty sure I got a buffalo chicken wrap, but it's been a month and I'm not positive. Rough Trip I visited Kirby's with my family with my ADA certified service dog, as soon as i got through the door I was confronted by a shorter man, manager or owner not sure, and i told him the tasks she performs immediatly but he was incredibly condescending, treated me like i was lying, try to humiliate me in fromt of my family and his staff, even when i tried to show him proof( which is not required by law) he just waved me off. Loveland has a new restaurant, Kirby's, which opened just a few weeks ago in the old Sleepy Hollow space. Not much has changed, as far as I can remember, on the outside of the building, but the inside is much different from the old space that used to be a Christmas celebration every day of the year. Truth be told, I never went inside Sleepy Hollow but I heard enough stories to feel like I had. We arrived around six this past Friday evening and though the parking lot was nearly full it was no problem getting a table. Perhaps there are a few too many tables on the inside as it felt a bit cramped and was really loud. Our service was adequate, though we did have a fairly long wait between drink and food orders. That was the only complaint I would have as far as the service goes and a manager even stopped by at some point to see how we were doing. Also there is a pretty good list of craft beers available, another bonus in my book. For dinner I went with the gourmet grilled cheese - a double decker of three different cheeses, tomato slices, and grilled bacon. It is served with homemade Saratoga chips and a pickle spear ($8.95). Overall I was happy with my choice. I wish I would have asked about the bread, as I would much rather have it served on something other than plain ol' toasted white. I've never had a double decker grilled cheese before, but it worked well. All of the bread was crisp and the cheese was very gooey. The Saratoga chips were also good. My wife may have ordered the best dish we sampled that night, the grouper finger basket - fresh grouper fillet cut into thick strips, breaded and deep fried. Served with fries ($11.95). The serving of fish was large, enough for all at the table to have a piece of their own. I'm not normally much of a fish eater, but this was very good! The also offer a grouper sandwich that comes blackened that is likely very tasty too. My mother went the sandwich and soup combo, selecting a half blackened caesar wrap and french onion soup ($9.95). I didn't get the chance to taste any of her food, but I didn't hear any complains from her. My dad had the ravioli creole - pasta filled with sausage, peppers, onions and a blend of cheeses tossed in their homemade creole sauce ($14.95). He really seemed happy with his choice and was the first to clean their plate. Despite some potential issues with the restaurant size and layout, the food at Kirby's was good. My parents live in Loveland, so I'm sure we will be back to sample more from Kirby's in the future, though it will be hard to overtake Paxton's and The Works as our go-to spots out that way. read more

My wife and I had dinner and drinks last night (Friday). I order the pulled pork dinner. The pork was so dry it was hard to swallow...I would like to know how they cooked it so all the natural juices disappeared??? I added bunches of barbecue sauce to help it along. Fun, relaxed, neighborhood joint. My husband loved his pulled pork sandwich; I was so-so on the chicken tenders. I found them to be a bit over-cooked/overly crunchy and a little lacking in seasoning. Waiter apologized & said he would bring them out...... not take back and fix! He never made any attempt to bring out.... This is a solid, casual, Americana joint that is loved by the locals. On a Saturday at 6, there was no wait for a high top. It is in an old building and the walls have autographed guitars and singer/songwriter memorabilia on them. There is a lot of wood and high ceilings and the place got pretty noisy. Pretzel app was fresh and lightly salted, and dipping sauce was a beer, mustardy cheese sauce. (not the best, but not the worst sauce in town) The cod dinner platter and the fish sandwich are fried, so it IS "tavern" food. But, they hand coat the Cod with a Panko batter and it was crunchy and tasty. Also, and this was a nice surprise - they had 100% mesclun greens in their dinner salad. I agree with another reviewer who said that the portions are generous! Their coleslaw was watery but sweet, so 3 1/2 stars there. Their pulled pork is very tender and flavorful! Service was average. We were searching for a place to have dinner after a long day and we came upon Kirby's. The atmosphere was ok for kids, more like a bar. The service was fine and the food was mediocre to say the least. The meatloaf was rotten tasting and the pork sandwich didn't taste homemade. Sad to say that nothing here would bring us back. Our latest and last order was takeout. No online ordering, so I called around 2PM to order dinner. I was bluntly told to call back later, "We'll have a different kitchen staff by then...". Off-putting. When I picked up out food later the 8oz salmon entree was 3oz, I weighed it. The veggies were missing entirely, and despite having ordered it blackened the tiny piece we received was grilled. Tater tots were overcooked too... Went to the website to send them an email about it, I'm sure they would make it right. No email address on the website. So I went to their Facebook page and sent a message - days have gone by and no reply. Anyway, I'll agree with the previous bad reviews - the food is ho-hum and overpriced, service from management is non-existent, and all of the kids they allow in the bar area spoils the one thing they have going for them - the bar. read more

So fun! This place has great atmosphere and super friendly service. Reminds me of the show "Cheers" every time I come here..."where everybody knows your name." I was intrigued when I heard Kirby also operated the Sky Galley at Lunken Airport. Was it as good? Visiting the answer was similar. Sky Galley has the ambience and visuals plus historic tradition based on location and cool factor. That's not saying Kirby's isn't worth a visit, it is. Food wise our party had the grilled chicken sandwich (good), sky galley chicken dinner ( better than just good), chicken salad ( good), and grilled chicken Caesar (okay but small). Service was okay. I went for the first time today and got such gross dirty eating utensils that I almost didn't want to eat. Fortunately I had a burger so didn't need utensils but the server didn't return to our table after bringing our food until she delivered the bill at the end of my meal. The server seemed grossed out when I was finally able to show her the dirty utensils I received but offered no apology or compensation. The turkey burger was pretty flavorless but was cooked well and the tater tots were crispy. They need to educate their wait staff to check on diners a few minutes after food is served. Kirby's is a great place for a beer and a bite at a pretty reasonable price. As a precursor to this review, I have only ever eaten at the bar, so I cannot comment on the table service. They always have varied and eclectic craft beers on tap which is a big reason we like going to Kirby's. Their menu is your typical American fare, but everything we have had to date has been really good (my favorite so far was the veggie sandwich). The ladies working the bar have always provided helpful and friendly service. It's great for groups- have been here a couple of times with large groups and we have all had a blast. Not fancy by any means but if you like beer and want to grab a quick bite in Loveland I would definitely give it a try! read more

We come over here every month or so to have a beer or two after tennis, and I have to say after 5 visits or so, I'm a semi-fan of Kirby's. This is the old Sleepy Hollow restaurant, the place that used to have the Christmas lights inside the restaurant year 'round. So here's the Good-- Draft Beer selection is very good to excellent by almost any standard with 12-15 beers on tap and a nice clean bar atmosphere. The bar staff is friendly and helpful. The patrons are generally local residents or riders on the adjacent Bike Trail, both of whom are looking for a burger and a brew.... They also have 4 or 5 sweet 55" flat screen TV's spread across the backbar. Kirby's does very nicely for a local watering hole. Great little place for pre-game and the nice bartenders make you feel appreciated. BTW-- 100 yards off the Loveland Bike Trail, so a cold draft summertime beer in Branch Hill is doable while you're still wiping the sweat off your brow from the long ride. read more

Tried Kirby's fir the first time last week. I met a friend for lunch. We arrived about 11:20 am and were the first people there for lunch. We had to track down a server despite the fact someone came out of the kitchen and saw us sitting at a table. Our server came and she was personable and attentive for the rest of our meal. I had the special that day which was a grilled chicken sandwich with bbq sauce, Swiss cheese and bacon. I was not disappointed. It was served with Saratoga chips that were also very good. My friend had a burger and said it was also excellent. There were many things on the menu that sounded good so I will definitely return to try them. It was a quaint neighborhood bar atmosphere that I liked. There is also a patio for outside dining when the weather allows. The prices were all very reasonable. Kirby's has really found its legs over the past couple of years and now is our favorite stop for something cozy and fuss-free with drinks. Their fried, breaded fish is awesome (there's battered too: be sure to specify what you want. ) The salads with chicken or salmon are not a sad, diet-y choice but really delicious. And today--today! They really surpassed themselves. The daily special of salmon cakes with honey glaze were absolutely the best salmon dish I've ever had, anywhere. I will never be satisfied with dull, sublunary salmon cakes again after tasting these. I still say they have uncomfortable chairs for sitting awhile BUT it's a durn good local business. For fish, it has Red Lobster, Montgomery Inn, and Pappadeaux ALL beat, at half the price. Grouper, Cod, Fish Basket (swai), Cod, Salmon: all are excellent. And it's not a dive! Great spot for sports and casual lunch or dinner. I recommend the Burgoo for a unique dish with Cajun influence. Do yourself a favor and don't pass up this place. A very warm and friendly atmosphere. The peel and eat shrimp are fantastic. Also order the tater tots with gravy and cheese. They make one of the best pulled pork I've ever had. I recommend getting the BBQ on the side and add it yourself. Also don't sell yourself short; put the coleslaw on the sandwich too. I went to Kirby's for the first time the other. It was a lunch with a few co-workers. The restaurant looked nice and was clean. It had more of a bar feel than a restaurant with the dining area being fairly small. There are a number of TV's throughout the establishment for the sports enthusiasts. I had the "gourmet" grilled cheese with chips and a cup of soup. The sandwich was very good (as described by Ed in his review). It was a work lunch, so I could not try any of the selection of craft brews. My co-workers seemed to enjoy their food, but when I asked their thoughts afterwards the response was luke warm. The service we received was very good. Our waitress was attentive and cordial. I gave it a 3 star rating as the atmosphere, service, and food were fine, but my co-workers luke warm reaction held me back from giving it 4 stars. I didn't have any issues with it being loud as Steve alluded to, but then it was lunch during the work week. Like I said it has more of a bar like feel and the dining/bar area is fairly intimate so I imagine on a busy night it could be fairly loud. I think I will definitely make a return visit for dinner some time with my wife. I would like to try something else off the menu and sample some of the beet selection.
