The workers are kind, but the service is slow. Our server had two parties of 14 and wasn't able to balance waiting on us outside. The food is also so bland for the price. The outdoor seating is very nice but indoors is dark and they had a piano player as well as some sport TV going. Wouldn't recommend. read more

What started as a very pleasant evening turned into a terrible night!!! Of course I was attracted to this restaurant because of the positive reviews. However, based on service, I would award 1 star. Food brought the overall rating up to 2 stars. We waited 60 minutes for our mains to be delivered after ordering!!!! Totally unacceptable. Plus the excuses kept changing, as Dan, our server couldn't keep track of what he had told us last. I ordered the crab cakes as a starter. It came out in 5-10 minutes. It was lukewarm, yet flavorful. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. Fully 30 minutes later I get up from my seat to see the roving hostess, the owner/chef's mother, as my waiter was nowhere to be found. She was useless and offered to buy me dessert. I don't want dessert...... I want my main. Then Dan appeared every 5 minutes offering a new and different excuse. FINALLY, more an hour since ordering, our mains appeared. My poor wife had to endure the wait without any food, as the crab cakes starter was for me. How was the food???? At this point I had no appetite to eat what was presented. However, it was plentiful and flavorful. The concept of the chicken tower that I ordered is a joke, and really meant to impress in show and presentation. My suggestion would be to just add the sauce to the fish in the kitchen, so it doesn't drop over everything. The staff definitely needs some professional training. We got out of the pool a little late and this is one of the few options in the Desert after 9p on a weeknight (I know...). Regardless, it looked great and we were excited to try it. The decor and style are great and give it a modern, trendy but still warm ambiance to the place. They have a nice big bar in the front and even a number of screens around if you are looking to watch a game. They informed us, due to the heat wave, that they had a bit of a limited menu (no Boom Boom Shrimp!) but we were still in and happy when they sat us in our big comfy booth. My oldest tried a foo foo beer the server recommended and she loved it. I ordered the Chopped Italian Salad as I didn't want any heat after a day of 114 degree temps. The kids ordered pizzas. My pescetarian daughter ordered the truffle pizza with a fried egg, my oldest daughter ordered a Italian Meat Pizza and my son ordered the sausage and ricotta pizza. All three were hits and were still enjoyed the next day out of the hotel fridge. My salad, on the other hand, was just OK. It was considerably smaller than I thought it would be and was a bit bland. All in all, still very positive going into dessert. Speaking of dessert, we shared the Tiramisu and it was awesome. It was very fluffy with great texture and flavor...a great way to finish the meal. So, overall we had a great experience. Next time I will skip the salad and grab some of that Boom Boom Shrimp and hopefully push Kitchen 86 to 5 stars. read more

I went to this restaurant, because a colleague set up a law firm dinner here. They did an amazing job, the food is fantastic. They had everything from salmon to ribeyes and pizza. They made us a custom menu, the service is fantastic. They have a large wine list and they can make pretty much any cocktail. It was a good atmosphere, they had a DJ but that was only at night so it's not so loud until the DJ comes on. They have a lot of outside seating unless there's wind. They still manage to keep our reservation even on a night where they had to close the whole outdoor area. The vibes here are good. There's a big bar at the center, and it's a nice place that is located on a beautiful street that resembles rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. read more

Came in last night ordered the rack of lamb appetizer, chicken wings, and the Caprese. Everything had CLEARLY been PRE cooked and been sitting, besides the salad. The lamb and wings were NOT fresh, the mash potatoes weren't even a tiny bit warm, and our lemon drop wasn't even topped off. Really disappointing. Food needs to be made to order! Not ok. read more

The decor is modern industrial chic. Noise levels are reasonable and seating is adequately spaced. The menu is eclectic and interesting. The food is 3 to 3.5*. We had the lamb chop appetizer which was decent. The pizza was just okay - toppings were fine but the dough was bland. Nothing exciting. Beet salad was also okay - fresh but a little ordinary. We have been to Kitchen 86 twice for dinner. The food is good quality and well prepared with a nice mix of innovative and standard menu options. Cocktails were also good, though some were priced pretty high for what they contained. Nice wine choices. The ambiance is nice, attractive dining room and plenty of heaters on the patio for when it is cool. The reason for only three stars is the service. On both occasions, while discussing our order with our server (different servers each time), the server made suggestions for a bit of variance but neglected to mention there would be an extra charge. We dine out very frequently at similar types of restaurants and the variances were both of a type that would not carry an extra charge. Our second time at the restaurant, our entree plates were cleared by someone we had not seen before after which we sat, ignored. We kept an eye out for our server, but never saw her. After more than 25 minutes of waiting without anyone paying any attention to us, we finally had to ask another staff member to please find our server so we could get our check. This is not only a bad experience for the customers, but potentially bad for the restaurant as I really doubt anyone would have noticed if we had just walked out (not that we would do something like that, but some would). read more

I was not impressed coming here and believe the experience was a waste of money. Driving by I was drawn in by the outdoor seating, dimly lit blue lighting and live music. One star added for the entertainment. After we were seated it took forever to be served. The food was extremely pricey and the side dishes tasted more like bar food to me. I had several complaints and none of them addressed. The bill came to what I would pay at one of the nicer restaurants that I frequent. I remember the regret of not going elsewhere. Super nice to see something open on El Paseo after 10pm. To be tasty dish not always have to be complicated. Like for example roasted beet root salad served super easy here: roasted gold and purple beet slices sprinkled with olive oil and vinegar with a little bit of goat cheese. Simply and tasty. The names of some dishes sounds funny, but nothing constractive to say about the concept besides that it makes false suspicios about the food. "Boom-boom shrimp" and pizza were good as well. That place became a good rescue after failure with previous restaurant that we left hungry...it was that bad, unfortunately. Stopped in for lunch during a weekend trip to Palm Desert. The restaurant is very pretty and modern inside with a slight urban/industrial edge. We had the Dos Tacos Boom (shrimp), Dos Tacos Chicken and the Acteca Salad. Between the chicken and the shrimp, the shrimp was the clear winner. The chicken was rather boring, but the shrimp had been marinated in something delicious and was served in a soft flour shell with slaw and chopped tomatoes. Delicious! The Azteca salad was likewise delicious and was mixed with just enough dressing. The have a happy hour from 3-6pm and 10pm-2am. read more

I absolutely loved it here. Super cool ambience. Our service was very average, but it was a busy night... so, oh well. The food, however, was spectacular. DELICIOUS cocktails, amazing appetizers (we ordered the boom boom shrimp and the calamari) the pizza was 10/10, and I had a caprese salad (added prawns) that was fresh and extremely tasty. I'm a little annoying about food because I love to cook and I hate spending money on something I can do myself. This was a YES. Next time I'm in the area, I'm coming back. Sunday breakfast was pretty disappointing. Party of five and all five entrees were not only weak in appearance but wow - how about putting some food on the plate. Either use smaller plates, charge less or perhaps fill the plate (what a concept). Spending $14-18 per breakfast entree and still leaving hungry is what puts restaurants like this out of business. Only slightly saving grace here were the Bloody Mary's - maybe should have just drank breakfast here. Heard about this place and we like trying new places. We were a party of eight and made reservations. The table was not ready and needed to be set up. We sat and another big party was leaving. They asked if we could wait they could set up another table to seat us more comfortable as it was a little tight, within a few minutes transfered to the larger table. Ordered and the food came out. Literally we all ate everything. The food was great. Highly recommend, because the selection is for all types of dietary selections.
