If you're looking for something fresh, healthy, and delicious - look no further! We got there right at around 6:00pm on a Friday night. If you go at a busy time; be prepared to wait in line. We stood in line for 15-20 minutes, then waited another 20 minutes for our food. It was all amazing. Will definitely be back! Note - I give it 5 stars in terms of flavor/taste/portions and employee friendliness. However, I give it 4 stars because it took so long and because it's a little pricey. Within the last month, I have went to Kitchen 88 for the first time, and then a second time because it was so amazing the first time. Kitchen 88 is located in a great area. There is desserts, soda and other attractions in the area. They are also conveniently located in close proximity to I-15. I am jealous of the apartments that are behind it. I have heard about Kitchen 88 for a long time and I definitely regret not making it out sooner. To be honest, parking it a bit of a pain so plan accordingly. With it being in a convenient location with a lot of businesses in the area, this leads to less parking. Parking is so limited here, I would recommend carpooling if you are able to. I am not sure what to call Kitchen 88, when it comes to category. It is not entirely sit-down style, as you do have to wait in line and order at a counter. However, I wouldn't refer to it as "fast casual" because while they are fast, the food is a bit more upscale and it isn't as "fast casual" as a Cafe Rio or Jersey Mike's. Kitchen 88 has a very diverse menu, with many different cuisine options to choose from. They have burgers, salads and some sandwiches. Additionally, they have some of their very own, craft entrees. Both times I have been here, I have ordered the tri-tip. It was so good the first time, I struggle to want to expand out of it. The tri-tip is cooked so beautifully, that you can cut it with a fork. It is tender and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes and green beans are a great addition to the dish, but I do with they had more flavor, especially the green beans. I think if the mashed potatoes had seasoning or maybe even gravy, they would be so much better. The green beans could use some lemon, or even just a lemon pepper seasoning. The texture is amazing for both the mashed potatoes and the green beans, but they just do taste a bit bland on their own. When I order the tri-tip, I do get a choice of sauce as well. Both times, I have chosen the sweet chili sauce but I really need to try to get something else next time. It has got quite the kick to it and I really would just love to see what their other sauces taste like. The sweet chili sauce isn't bad, I do like it, but just be warned that it does have quite the kick to it. Kitchen 88 also offers fountain drinks and lemonades. The strawberry lemonade is to die for. I kept going back for seconds. I am not sure what they are putting in it but I would come back just to drink the lemonade. The overall vibes of the restaurant are great. I love the employee's uniform--it is an apron that looks classy and fits the overall look of the restaurant well. There is honestly quite a lot of seating. They have patio seating if it is a nice enough day outside. They have seating inside that ranges from a two top to a six top. I loved them when they were in their food truck and so excited to have a store front. This is real food that's done well and for a really good price. I mean, steak and potatoes for $13? And it's really good. Have tried multiple different things. The steak is still one of the favorites. The Mac and cheese was actually really good. The Nutella cheesecake - wow. And it's gluten free! I have seen some inconsistency in how the food is cooked and presented. One night the steak was more medium well while other times it's more medium-medium rare where you want it. I came on a Tuesday night and it was packed! I took this as a good sign and was not disappointed. The environment is bright and welcoming with plenty of seating. To start, you order at the register and they bring your food to you. The food came out quickly, considering how busy it was. I ordered the mango and black bean salad with chicken. I finally made it to Kitchen 88, after hearing such great things! It did not disappoint! I went at 6pm on a weekday and it wasn't too busy and we probably got our food in like 5-10 minutes. I read reviews and was planning on getting the apple salad but saw a black bean and mango salad on the menu and decided to try that. It was really good! I would totally order it again. The mango were a fun addition with the sweetness. I couldn't tell if it was the red onions or the dressing that added a little heat to it. And if you only get one takeaway from this review....GET/ADD CHICKEN! After reading multiple reviews about how good the chicken was, I had to try it. Service is excellent. The tacos are great. The beehive and other shareable appetizers are on point. The only downside is, it can often be very busy and Parking can be kind of a pain. We came here for my grandpas bday today (1/31/24) and I have Crohn's disease so it's hard for me to even go out to eat and i totally forgot about the possibility of tomato's being in the burger sauce so when the beehive dish came out I didn't know if there was tomato's or not and the only girl that was working( I didn't get her name) but I felt so bad and she went and doubled checked to make sure there was no tomato's and before she knew for certain she offered to remake the dish. Excellent food, okay but not great service/customer care. Leaving this in March 2021: there was NO signage posted about COVID-19 safety measures, which technically are still state mandated (social distancing in line and for tables, wearing masks). Some measures were in place, like the staff wearing masks, but that was it. I will leave my other customer service issue for the end because after COVID stuff, most people will be reading to learn about the food, and my other customer service qualm is logistical/business related. We picked this place because everything on the menu sounded good. We were not disappointed in the food at all. I got the Thatcher burger and sweet potato fries. My colleague got the chicken sandwich and hand cut fries. We both got the Nutella cheesecake. Zero regrets. My burger had white cheddar, Carmelo Ed onions, and bacon, and the proportions and flavors struck just the right balance and blend. I said no dill pickles, and they came through on that - some places are careless here, but they got it right. The fries were crisp but soft, not soggy at all. Colleague said the chicken sandwich was great. Get the Nutella cheesecake. If you don't like Nutella or cheesecake, then pass, obviously, but if you do... this was so creamy and decadent. The raspberries cut nicely through the richness, and the cheesecake sits on a bed of what we guessed might be Rice Krispies that were covered in a muddy buddy type of coating. This nice crunchiness finished the dessert off perfectly. Don't sleep on their lemonades. I got the strawberry basil lemonade and it was so nice. Not too basil-y, just a great berry lemonade with a twist of basil to keep it from being too sweet. The aesthetic is very nice and pleasant here, and it's generally clean, though maybe not quite up to rigorous sanitizing in the times of Covid-19. So back to the business side. I was there for a business meeting with a state institution, which technically means I should be getting tax exemption on my check. I have the tax exemption number printed on my card, it's easy to give to anyone working the register system. My cashier didn't know how or if they could do it, turned to ask his supervisor if it was possible, and she (rudely, eep) responded no and immediately turned away. I didn't push the issue because it's more work on my end after the fact, but I can rectify the tax payment, HOWEVER, they utilize the Square point of sales system, which many restaurants and vendors use and which we also use in my office, and tax exemption on a check is EXTREMELY easy. Its a tale of two meals. My wife wisely calls ahead on a late saturday afternoon, and orders our food, and is specifically told the next take out slot is 5:40, and to expect to not have it before 5:40. VERY SPECIFIC. we order: Thatcher Burger (me) Apple salad with Steak (wife) Apple salad with steak (daughter) Beehive appetizer (wife and daughter to share) wife asks for chimichurri and peri peri sauce on the side So, We get there about 5:25 and just visit for awhile, place is PACKED. at 5:38 I walk in and stand in line, which everyone is shoulder to shoulder, to get my order. We got some water cups and STAND IN LINE TO FILL them, trying desperately to keep social distance which is impossible since they obviously don't believe in social distancing, every table and booth is full, and its obvious they are NOT trying to separate since you literally can't walk in between tables. and NO ONE is wearing masks. even the counter workers BOTH have them pulled down below their noses. I see people leave the restaurant and put on their masks OUTSIDE. Like what is that going to do? so exiting as quickly as possible, I go to the car to try and eat. We find out quickly that the salads are quite cold, and unfortunately so is the burger and all the fries. SO after a quick walk around to restore circulation we head for the casa and the microwave. My Burger: 8 oz patty (true), white cheddar (forensics may have been able to find it but if so their was not more than a trace), caramelized onions (a few shreds true but barely cooked and NOT caramelized), chopped bacon (NOPE), burger sauce (the forensics report indicated the trace amounts of cheddar cheese were mixed with a substance that may/may not have been burger sauce), pickles (there were two slices that covered about 40% of the bun), and a non-toasted soggy brioche, not on your life is this a pretzel, bun. Fries, oh the fries were awful, COLD all the way through, so I'm not buying you made them for this order, although the hamburger patty being COLD in the middle, would lend credence they did actually cook them for this order at 2 PM in the afternoon using their crystal ball that I would order it at 5 PM. They must have a heck of a blast freezer to cool them down that fast. I would suggest the scientists thawing animals out of the siberian tundra get one to keep the specimens intact. If these precision shaped steak fries are hand cut, i will eat another batch as a bet. In short, incomplete,incompetent. Apple salad with Steak. 4 stars spring mix with craisins, granny smith apples, manchego cheese and sunflower seeds. Option to add protein resulted in a more than decent portion of steak. Normally protein adds are a completely overpriced add, and a personal pet peeve, but here is was a very generous portion of medium-medium rare steak. perfect for a salad. vinaigrette is red wine based and plays well off of the greens, apple and cheese. Its so weird, i swear the steak was decently warm but not too hot, so the lettuce was not wilted. They must get a lot more practice making these than the burger, since they seemed to have done it right. its not complex, and the salad or some variant thereof is served in bistros across this great nation of ours, so 4 stars for the lettuce mix being on the small side for a bistro salad. I saw it on a plate in the restaurant, and i am guessing its restrained by the size of the standard takeout box, since the one in the restaurant looks much larger. beehive looked great, but once again hampered by the main carrier of really bad cold fries. So given the 2, 3 and 4 star nature of the review, that averages 3 right? As mentioned previously, the happy go lucky, fiddle while Rome burns nature of their COVID precautions, drop this 3 star review into a 2 star. I was first introduced to this delight about a month ago when the truck was near my office and a few of my colleagues planned to go at lunch. Not knowing what I was in for, I absentmindedly agreed to join them, and I've never regretted it! Each time I've gone, I've had the tri-tip. You better be in line early, I've heard they sell out. So my wife and I have eaten here 3 times now over the span of about a year and a half and the general consensus is that we're happy to have an option like this but we've been less impressed every time. Dishes: my wife ordered the beet salad with chicken and I ordered the apple salad with pork Flavor: 4/5 Really solid, great combination of ingredients, not overly saucy but they allow the natural flavors of the ingredients come through. Our big complaint is that the last two times we've eaten there, we've commented on how the dishes are all very salty - and I love salty stuff so for me to say it's salty means it's too much. Everyone in our party of 4 agreed this last time that it was too salty. The beet salad ended up tasting a little too sour for our tastes by the end. I think the balsamic vinegar they used in the dressing had settled to the bottom and soaked into the beets and squash. Mix well if you get it! Freshness and quality: 5/5 we really enjoy their salads and have never been disappointed with the quality of the ingredients. Texture: 4/5 Great mix of textures in the salads. The one minus that we've consistently seen is that the meat can be on the dry side, depending on what you order. My wife's chicken was a little dry. The pork was better. Last time we ordered the chicken I recall it was also a little dry for our preferences. I wasn't a fan of the large Parmesan cheese chunks in the apple salad that were very hard such that when you stabbed it with a fork it would break in half. Had heard of K88 for a while finally got a chance to try it at their brick and mortar and was not disappointed. The wife just had surgery so it was a take out meal. I got the beehive, basically loaded fries, as an appetizer. I was shocked at how well it held up. The fries were soggy but honestly it was still delicious. The flavors worked together so well the sauce, white cheddar and caramelized onions just jive perfectly and taste great. I will get this again, and I recommend you definitely consider it! I had the pork tenderloin with chimichurri sauce and peri peri sauce and risotto and asparagus. The chimichurri wasn't great but the peri peri was pretty tasty.
