I am often in the neighborhood for work and am disappointed in myself for not stopping by sooner. I love that their gyros come in mini and regular sizes and that you can order pierogis by the # versus a whole order of them. The decor inside is so cute! An old school diner bar top paired with tables + tables outside. They have a fun game room to occupy the kids while you wait. I ordered 1 mini lamb gyro and 1 pierogi. I stopped in for a late lunch and really wanted to try everything but not be overly full. This was honestly a great portion for me as it kept me full the remainder of the day. This place is truly a 6/5. Food was lovely, especially the Greek Salad with fried pita (funnel cakey). Very generous portions and great family friendly prices. Love the two sizes for sandwiches. The back room is also really vibey with a couple free to play Japanese arcade games. First time here but will be part of the routine! I would note that they reopened about a year ago and all of the reviews since are positive. My friends and I stopped in to this spot for lunch today and met the new owners husband and wife Mike and Mandi who are delightful. The eat-in spot is very large inside with a bar area, tables and another area with arcade games to include my favorite- Pac-Man! Very cute decor and very clean inside. Mandi took our orders, Mike did the cooking and Mandi brought the food to our table. My friend and I ordered the pierogi gyro; she had chicken and I had the lamb, my other friend had the gyro Greek salad and we all shared the gyro fries. I also ordered a chocolate milkshake which was delicious! All the food was beautifully presented and equally delicious. Definitely check these guys out! read more

I was visiting family in Pittsburgh and asked "Besides Primanti, what in town is actually eaten by locals? What is typical Pittsfood?" I was told, in no uncertain terms, pierogies, and that this was the place for those within walking distance. So, despite the Greek name, I can tell you that this place IS Polish. The owner/chef has populated the menu with options from both places, and after sampling, my determination is that you can't go wrong with Polish food. (Jury's out on the rest, until I return.) I went for one of each, with the following results: * Took a few minutes to prepare, but it was done fresh by the one person behind the counter. So that's understandable. She was friendly for when I was able to talk, but it was a little bit of a wait. Service = 4 stars. * Nondescript eating area. Only a couple of tables (and room for not much more), so I got my food to go. Ambiance = 2 stars (not that I ever rate on that, just letting you know). * Beverage choices are unfortunately American. They do include Pittsburgh's sweet tea, but you've gotta want that. At least they're cold and cheap. 3.5 stars. Now for the important parts that will determine my overall rating! 1. Pierogies I found superior to my local place in Morristown NJ. The outside was done crisper, the inside was filled thicker, much better value for more and better food. Downside: you only get potato/cheese, there is no other variety. 2. Haloushki: Not something I can get here, and I've heard is somehow Pittsburgh-specific. It shouldn't be. Some wide noodles that taste freshly made mixed with some healthy cabbage, but it doesn't taste like cabbage. With the right mix of salt/pepper/spice, it just... yum. Yum yum yum. 3. Golabki: Again, filled well (rice and meat) and doesn't taste that much like cabbage. A solid one, but this is more like the ones I could get here overall. So, how many stars shall I give? Nice service, tiny little local place, authentic food... but to be fair, since I did note a couple of drawbacks, I will hold this at 4. But it's a STRONG 4 and I absolutely want to come back here next time I visit! read more

I recently had the Fried Oreo Sundae here. It has two fried Oreos, three scoops of your choice of ice cream (went with two scoops vanilla and one birthday cake), whipped cream, and a cherry on top for only $6. It was very delicious and enough for two people. Unfortunately, it was so hot that day that getting a picture of an ice cream sundae before it melted was impossible! Before trip to Pittsburgh, people said to be sure and try the pierogies. As we got into town, did a map search. Knossos was the pierogie place most along our route. We arrived mid afternoon during the week, were greeted warmly by the lady behind the counter. She was very helpful in explaining what she had, what a couple of other items were beside pierogies. We got an order of pierogies and a couple of stuffed cabbage appetizer. She cooked them while we waited, wrapped them nicely to go. We later dug in when at our place for the night. The pierogies were tasty and a good sampling of Polish comfort food. I also enjoyed the stuffed cabbage. Nothing but good things to say about Knossos. Tasty food, very friendly and warm service. I was staying at a nearby hotel and my plans for the evening had fallen through. Myorder included a felafel salad for $12. The restaurant didn't bother to tell the driver I was at this hotel, which is easy to get to if you know the area, but confusing by GPS, so the driver was late. No utensils despite my stating I was in a hotel. The salad was truly awful: the equivalent of 1 felafel patty, burnt and dry, laid on top of soggy iceberg lettuce, with feta cheese and...French fries. Really? My wife really enjoyed the buffalo chicken gyro and is the reason I am giving 4 stars. I was going to go with 3 but changed to 4 based on her and my daughters opinion of this place. I will admit; I am a sucker for any and all Polish foods. As a kid, my choice of a birthday dinner would always be my Mom's stuffed cabbage with sauerkraut (weird, I know!). Living in Dormont for almost 2 years, I finally decided to try Knossos Gyros to satisfy my craving for homemade Polish food. Of course as this was my first time, my boyfriend and I HAD TO GET the Polish Platter, which is a sampler of all of their top Polish foods: kielbasa & sauerkraut sandwich, haluski, stuffed cabbages (golabki), and pierogies. I must say I was very impressed. Although the pierogies needed to cook a bit longer (the dough was a bit tough), everything else was piping hot and delicious. Our favorite was the kielbasa sandwich. A close second was the haluski (definitely a comfort food and not for the health conscious)! The Polish platter is a little costly but you really get a ton of food for the price & I think it is enough for 2 people (with a normal appetite) to share. We also tried out the buffalo chicken dip as this is our favorite thing to make for a party and wanted to see how theirs measured up. It was delicious and not too spicy. It was accompanied by a small bag of soft pita triangles for scooping up the dip which is different than I'm used to but was definitely a great switch-up to make it more their own. The place was a tad run down and nothing fancy, but the staff was very friendly and welcoming upon my arrival. From the time I called until I walked out the door with my food it was approximately 20min. *this on a Saturday night. Walked the 7 min back to my daughters place and the food was still hot. Both gyros seasoned and cooked perfectly. The fresh toppings of onions, lettuce,and tomatoes were complemented by the tastiest tzatiki sauce I've ever had... Not the place I remember, super gyro (was ok) pizza boat ($11.50 for a mediocre under cooked pizza boat??) fried mushrooms (were tasty) and a small chicken salad with fermented olives=$30?? Wow!!! This place has THE WORST customer relations I've experienced in Pittsburgh since I moved here two months ago. My boyfriend was about to order a gyro, I was waiting for him at the table outside near the street with a drink and hotdog I had gotten elsewhere, there was absolutely no one else in their establishment. The person behind the counter then told my boyfriend that I was not welcome to sit at their outdoor seating area with him while he enjoyed his gyro. Never ever again will I go here. The carpet is filthy needs cleaned or replaced!!! The walls need a fresh coat of paint. The place just doesn't seem clean to eat. Best gryos in Pittsburgh in a little shop with a lot of Pittsburgh flavor! Potomac is street parking with meters, so it can be a little hit or miss sometimes, but mostly its not an issue. They do delivery, always have a game on in the shop and are super friendly. :) read more

I'm underwhelmed. Being a Mike & Tonys kind of girl, I was not really expecting a whole lot. But this meal left me feeling totally "meh". I've personally made better tzatziki sauce before. Their gyro meat has some flavor but it's way too salty for me. I give it a 3 purely for the fact that their staff is helpful and super nice. That always makes a difference to me. I'm originally from Pittsburgh and was in for a visit this past week. My fiancé and I stopped in Knossos tonight before out departure, was craving a gyro. I went with the Buffalo chicken dip, which was fabulous. Stephanie, who was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu was great. She truly helped out with our dining experience. Drove 1/2 hr to find this spot in the snow. Had a great dinner. Polish platters split by 3 of us and we were stuffed!!!! Also had a small gyro for our daughter. Before I start with the negatives, I used to get gyros from here when I first moved to Dormont about a year ago. I loved it. However it's gone downhill fast. I ordered a small gyro and onion rings. The onion rings were burned and disgusting. There wasn't even onion in the rings! It was a small stale piece of who knows. It's like they buy them frozen and they are freezer burned. The small gyro was mostly lettuce. Not much meat. The meat that was in there was bland, cold and didn't taste good. There are many places around that sell other food including gyros. Knossos cannot even compete with the others. The inside is also run down, and dirty. There was loud music playing and I wasn't even greeted when I walked in. I was stared at, then he put his head down and didn't say anything for 5 minutes. Awkward! Took 15 minutes to make my food when I was the only customer. Extremely dry, tasteless, and obviously not fresh as I watched the woman cut from the very top of the thin spindly piece of meat left and then microwave it before serving me.
