My boyfriend and I came here before going to the Snoop Dogg concert. This establishment is conveniently located right across from the hotel we stayed at. This place reminds me of Knotts Berry Farm as I believe they featured menu items there. When we came in it was dead empty which can be a good or bad sign. They did not have an appetizing menu and I was not enthused about this place to yelp and my dude could tell. Nothing seemed yummy so I settled on the Irish Loaded Fries and tried the fried Zucchini with a Cranberry Mimosa. Everything was good except the Fried Zucchini was tasteless like it had no taste at all! The fries and the drink filled us up but this place needs a make over. The booths are broken and dirty and everything just seems OLD. They need to vamp it up. Like you can tell when something is Vintage but this is not, it's just old and dirty furniture. I ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich which wasn't memorable-other than having a ton of bread and not enough chicken. It wasn't seasoned very much and I didn't taste anything to the effect of cajun. I also ordered the onion rings, fries, and zucchini with friends to share and that was delicious! The batter is different on the onions and zucchini which makes it crispier than usual. Knowlwoods had great food with reasonable prices. I have never been disappointed. Their burgers are big and juicy with lots of toppings to choose from. They also have a great club sandwich and their cheese fries are to die for. Their food is always cooked fresh and hot. The staff is always friendly too. I've lived in this area for a year, off Modjeska and Irvine blvd. When I just moved here my buddy said Knolwood was a good spot to check out. But I guess I was too lazy to do so. I finally did today. I loved the ambiance and family owned small business vibe to it. It's very refreshing considering Irvine is so cookie cutter. My host was also super nice I got the egg breakfast, 3 strips of bacon, hash browns, and sour dough. It was basic. Nothing too special. But for the price of $9 with tax you can't beat it anywhere. To start off, the staff seems like they're miserable and acts as though you are inconveniencing them at any point of requests. I had a terrible lunch at knowlwoods today, and I should've asked for a refund, not only was the sourdough burger, not fresh, obviously sat for a while before given to me, but the measly six mushrooms that were deep-fried for five dollars were frozen in the middle, not cold, but frozen. It's sad. I go to this place fairly regularly and this was at this appointment and will probably stick to the restaurant and will be a while before I go back to this restaurant. This old school rustic restaurant is situated in an old barn from the historic processing mill. It has lots of nostalgic pieces including a 1928 car inside. Being in a barn like restaurant, it seems a bit dark. The is a pool table and a few arcade games. It felt like an old school version of Fuddruckers. The atmosphere is cute and original. I had a quick snack of fries and wine. The wine options are very limited and they serve from Costco style size 1.5 liter bottles. Chardonnay is in very large bottles. Smaller bottles (750 ml) would provide more selection and more fresh options. A 1.5 liter bottle takes customers awhile to finish. The white wine tasted very old and oxidized. No vacuum seals are used that I could see. I saw about 5 to 7 drafts for beer. They also had some beer bottles available. Fries were freshly fried and hot but just ok. It tasted like normal cut, hospital cafeteria fries. No salt, no season salt or etc. Equals bland; previously frozen fries. McDonalds fries are much much better n Mc Ds fries are just fine. This place was ok and I didn't try their burger. So they may have a good burger. I don't think we will return. A good burger can't save bland fries and stale wine. read more

Knowlwood's is what you imagine a small-town, family-run, neighborhood restaurant to be and it doesn't disappoint. This is a great local spot and it's not uncommon to see the same people having breakfast here every weekend. It's set in an old-town barn but don't let the decor fool you. They have a surprisingly large menu and everything here tastes great. The service is casual but attentive and the prices are reasonable. I would describe the menu as American comfort food so expect good breakfasts, burgers and other American dishes. I'm not sure what happened here. I used to frequent this location before COVID hit and always enjoyed the food and ambiance. Today was a completely different experience. The burger was fine but everything else was severely lacking. There was zero salt on the fries and the chicken strips tasted like fish? Their ketchup is strangely watery and sweet. The BBQ sauce looks like thick jelly and tastes like what i imagine the paint samples at Home Depot taste like. Over half the tables in the entire restaurant had food left at them from previous patrons and not one employee was cleaning them despite having 5-6 people on staff. And a menu that has swollen to include almost everything. The burger is still there. In fact, there are 11 burgers of various sizes and ingredients. Or maybe you're more into sandwiches? There are an incredible 19 of them. There are six huge salads. Plus chicken tenders and fries, fish and chips, tacos, nachos (made from fries), chicken wings, beers, wines, mimosas, and a full breakfast with all breakfast options served all day. Whether this means you'll find everything you want to be prepared deliciously or it means that they are stretching too thin to provide quality in any one dish. Service is slow, and the interior here is more industrial than a charming old farm. It's like a warehouse with lighting much like a Costco. I usually stick to a salad or a burger, and in my experience, they have always provided good food at a good price. I'm glad this location exists. read more

Though it doesn't look like a diner with its almost farm house exterior and decor, I count this place as such due to its huge menu of typical American food and presentation. I'm a local and find that their breakfast dishes fare better than most of their other dishes. Their chicken fried steak was surprisingly crispy and well-seasoned. The gravy was heavenly. Smaller than the average size of a chicken fried steak, but for $13 with eggs, hash/homestyle potatoes, and your choice of bread, that's a steal in Irvine. Is the best diner food you'll have? I really want to like this place... (Sigh) it has a cool history and I have fond memories of going to the Santa Ana Location which had really unique 1940s decorations and memorabilia. I wanted to support one of the few remaining restaurants by this family owned business. I'd dined in here about three years ago and it was ok, 3 solid stars maybe 4. Unfortunately the current bad reviews are accurate. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries to go and didn't wait too long to get it. The fries were cooked properly but lukewarm. The burger while cooked perfectly and tasty was also not very hot but was a sloppy mess haphazardly wrapped and falling apart in the bottom of the bag. I asked for grilled onions, got none but I did get a big pile of tasteless iceberg lettuce stuffed on top. So there's that. The cashier was very pleasant and provided good service. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen. Maybe I will check back in a couple of years and see if anything has changed if it's still around. one of the other reviews compared this to a small town restaurant. I came here to try some something and based on the review. We arrived Saturday night after our sons Water Polo Tournament and we all had a pretty decent appetite. My wife and I had the Irish Fries and Frisco Burger. The burger and fries were awesome not greasy and cooked to perfection. The level of flavors on the Frisco Burger was not overpowering. Each layer complimented the next. My son had a regular and a chocolate shake and I must say I was jealous of his shake. It was thick and creamy. There's something to be said about the rundown diners that service decent food... They're A-OK. Knowlwood is just that. They don't do anything out of the ordinary, they don't serve up the best of anything, and they don't advertise anything that they aren't... they're just simply burgers and sandwiches, breakfast, appetizers, and drinks. In what I believe to be one of the oldest restaurants in Irvine, and trust me, the interior decor and cleanliness yells that. Buuuuut, they do have happy hour! Great prices on beer pitchers and appetizers. They have TV's there too, no volume when I was there, but maybe game nights are a bit better. I ordered the Frisco burger, and it was decent. I agree with some of the reviews here, burger small, veggies, wow. More lettuce and burger is right. Flavor was there, the toast was awesome (think texas toast, sizzler style!). Fries were just OK, nothing fancy...dry even. But they were crispy, and that's half the battle. The Cherry Pepsi tasted flat, CO2 levels were probably too low... but the Orange Crush was just right. Service was great, from the person who took my order, to the person calling the order, to the people cleaning the tables.
