My favorite spot here! Always the first stop. Lots of flavor! lots of goodness! My goto !

I really wanted to like KoJa Kitchen, but I just can't give it a great review. Here's why: First off, the menu is super appealing--lots of tasty-sounding options. Ordering at the kiosk was a little slow, but since we were the first ones there, it wasn't a big deal. We got the braised pork bowl, the short rib koja (because seriously, when do short ribs ever disappoint?), and the soy fried chicken wings. But it took 25 minutes for our food to come out, and no one else was waiting. There were three people working, so I'm not sure why it took that long. At least the seating area is pretty nice with good vibes. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype. The wings were hot, so they seemed freshly cooked, but the short rib and braised pork were just scooped out of a big container without even being warmed up. I know because I watched them make it. Plus, everything was drenched in sauce--not really my style. The wings were decent. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside... but again, smothered in super sticky, sweet sauce. For the wait time and the price, I definitely expected better. ‍

Man - so terribly disappointed with Koja Kitchen today. But let's start with a positive- my pork taco was delicious! 5 stars for that! Self ordering kiosk was easy to use. Food came out in a decent amount of time. Now the bad. The beef was ALL gristle! The beef taco terrible. My fries also full of gristle. WTH - the entire reason I went to Koja today was for the kamikazi fries! I'm glad I decided on the pork taco or I wouldn't have eaten. I normally love this place so what a huge let down. I may not go back especially with so many offerings at the public market!

Flavorful food for a decent portion size and price. After walking a lap around the public market, I settled for Koja. I got the short rib rice bowl and was surprised by the portion size. The meat was flavorful and tender. The salad was drenched in dressing and honestly got a bit too salty at the end. I would ask for dressing on the side next time. Rice was a little mushy, but overall, a decent meal for $13. Limited staff interaction. Ordering is via snackpass tablet. Food is placed on the counter and you receive a text when it is ready. It took me a few minutes to flag someone down for a cup of water even though they had no orders at the time.

Whole menu here is super solid. There is very little interaction with staff here, as ordering is through a kiosk. I'd say it's one of the most consistent places in the public market though.

My absolute favorite at Emeryville's Public Market. I mean... Japanese AND Korean. My two absolute favorite cuisines! I always get the shortrib koja and always think it's too small to be enough and then I am always stuffed afterwards.

Worst Koja ever! We experienced this business back when they were in food trucks way before they were in the actual brick & mortar buildings. This shortrib Koja is their signature dish but the rice buns were extremely thick, no flavor & gross. The short rib was hardly edible but the rest was far from their actual fusion dish. We will not ever order from here ever again which you have to do only via the computer. No person to person ordering or contact. We won't ever come back. They will certainly put Koja kitchen out of business. Seriously. I can't see this lasting another year.

The rice patty was so hard it hurt my mouth . I was also bringing a friend there for the first time and his experience was ruined

Really enjoy the food here. Definitely one of my go to spots when coming to the market. Love how everything goes together. Love the flavor on the meat.

I ordered kamikaze fries for pickup, they were prepared quickly. They were delicious, nicely savory and salty with also a bit of sourness and not too much spiciness for those who can't handle spicy food. Since this location is inside of Emeryville Public Market, there's both indoor and outdoor seating (it tends to be windy and cold outdoors) and bathrooms available.

I was violently craving seolleongtang and did some research to find a spot in Oakland. The menu is pretty big with a lot of enticing options--I love bossam and blood sausage--but because I had tunnel vision, I stuck with the soup. The broth itself was good, and they had salt and pepper on the table so you could season it to your liking. Unfortunately, the noodles were way too soft and almost mushy, and the meat was extremely tough and hard to chew. I couldn't finish it. If seolleongtang is one of your favorite dishes, I'd probably skip it here. My husband got the kimchi fried rice, which was huge and great for sharing between 2-4 people. Based on the portion size, I do think it could use an extra egg, more Spam and some nori on top. It leaned more oily and buttery than other versions I've had, but it was still good--just nothing too special. The vibe and service were solid, so I'd come back to try other dishes and update my rating accordingly.

I've been coming here for a while, and the food quality and service consistency keep it at the top of my local rotation. Their All You Can Eat (AYCE) option is a fantastic deal, especially if you stick to classics like the beautifully marbled bulgogi and brisket. But even if you don't go the AYCE route, their menu hits the mark. The LA Galbi is perfectly marinated with that ideal sweet-savory balance, and the Dol Sot Bibimbap arrives in a roaring hot stone pot, giving you that perfect, crunchy rice layer at the bottom. The banchan (side dishes) spread here is incredibly generous, fresh, and refilled promptly without you having to track down a server. Speaking of service, the staff is attentive, fast, and handles the busy weekend rushes remarkably well. So their menu isn't really catered to that so much minus a couple things here and there, but I managed to order the tofu bibimbap (and a couple bottles of soju). My friend ordered french fries and spicy korean fried chicken. The server that took our order was so kind, thank you for being attentive :) Wasn't able to catch their name, but we really appreciated the service. Every time I visited over the years, there seems to be an entirely new rotation of staff, yet they all share the same customer service issues. The workers look like they don't want to be there (I get it, it's work), and that disinterest shows a bit more than it should, draining the energy from the room. The food mirrors this inconsistency. We frequently stick to what we consider safe items like the porno fries, spicy fried chicken, and spicy rice cake. However, during our last visit, we decided to try the seafood pancake, the Bulgogi burger, and our usual corn cheese. Somehow, all three dishes were a disappointment. The seafood pancake was dense and doughy, while the Bulgogi burger was a bit of a soggy mess. Even the corn cheese, the coveted item that used to keep us coming back, missed the mark. It was pooling oil that left a greasy mouthfeel. While the ambiance remains nice, the kitchen simply underperforms on too many of its dishes now. With all of the new Korean restaurants and pochas popping up in the area, there are far better options available. Sadly, nostalgia isn't enough to justify coming back when the food and service continue to slip.

The portion size is also massive, so you could definitely share one order between two people--although I completely understand wanting one all to yourself. The black bean sauce is both salty, savory with a hint of sweetness coming through. The texture is thick and perfect which hugs the noodles with every bite. It also has a good balance of the veggies in the sauce as well. It is definitely very filling! The spicy rice cakes were soaked in a sweet and spicy sauce, with sautéed cabbage and peas. The flavors were really addicting and kept me coming back for more. The rice cakes were both delicate and chewy. Eating this dish alongside the pickled radish and onion cut through the richness of the dish. Lastly, I tried the yuja ade and was pleasantly surprised! I will say that it is very sweet, if you do prefer it to be sweeter instead of tart. At the bottom of the cup are these yummy almost candy-like yuja slices that practically melted with each sip. I'm so glad I decided to try it! Overall, the portion sizes are pretty big for the value! I was able to stretch the food across a few meals. I will definitely be eating here again!

The chicken was very good with a nice crispy exterior and coating of S&G. The two lunch specials - Mushroom Beef Soon Tofu Soup and Spicy Pork Box Lunch were not spicy as what we're used to, a medium on the soup - get spicy if you want more flavor, while Spicy Pork was more sweet than spicy.
