The food was meh imma be super honest I came here due to all the positive reviews but I don't believe I had the greatest experience. The bulgogi beef japchae was surprisingly upsetting for having the word beef in its name it came with just crumbs of beef. The pork cheese pull it was great for the photos but that was it. For a Friday night it was loud but kinda empty there was one other big group more than 10 people being super loud normally that would keep us entertained but we had just left a concert so we were tired. The servers though were kinda I'm not sure if it was due to the large group but we were ignored most of the time we had to ask for our check over three times to be brought to us.

I was craving some Korean fried chicken in Oakland, and I didn't want to go to bb.q Chicken because last time I ate there, they had too much packaging waste. Because of that, I decided to try Hanshin Pocha last Friday at around 7 p.m. It was very empty, so we were able to choose our table. As they removed the extra plate on the table, I told them I brought my own chopsticks, so they could take away those, too, and use them for another table. There was an iPad at the table that made ordering convenient. My party of two got the following: Carbonara Rice Cake - Tasted great! It was flavorful, and the rice cakes were chewy. One of the best Asian fusion dishes I've ever had. Korean Fried Chicken (Garlic & Pepper) - Standard fare. This had a good fry, though some of the chicken pieces were white meat, so they weren't as tasty. What they did was chop up a whole chicken and fry the pieces. While I was disappointed about the less tasty white meat, I did appreciate that they used more of the chicken. Beef Soft Tofu Stew - This also tasted like standard fare, so it was decent. They didn't say it was spicy on the ordering tablet, but it was a little bit spicy. We did end up having leftovers, so I packed them away in my glass Pyrex containers from the car. One thing I loved, but didn't need, was their seats can flip open so you can store your stuff inside. Amazing! Overall, the food is fairly average, aside from the Carbonara Rice Cakes, which was fantastic. I love the amount of reusable foodware that they used (see Eco Notes below), and I will come back for that Carbanara. ECO NOTES (Dine-In) Dine-In Dishware: Reusable plates and bowls Napkins: Single-use disposable paper napkin Utensils: Wooden chopsticks, which I asked them to take back, and metal spoons Water cups: Reusable metal cups

I'm honestly shocked I haven't reviewed Hanshin Pocha yet because I've been here at least five times this year... and I keep coming back for one dish and one dish only: THE. CHICKEN. FEET. Why are they so good?! This was actually my first time having Korean-style chicken feet. I've only had them at Taiwanese/Chinese dim sum spots before, but these are next level. Spicy, flavorful, and the seasoning gets into every bit of that gelatinous goodness. My only complaint is that when I shower later, my lips still feel the burn... but also it's like a fun reminder of the deliciousness I just experienced, so I'm not even mad. Other reccs: Spicy pork with cheese: my partner's favorite! Marinated crab: solid Chicken gizzard with fries: surprisingly addictive One miss: the oden soup. Not sure if we caught a bad batch, but it had that freezer-burn taste and I couldn't finish it (which says a lot because I'm usually anti-food-waste). Everything else we've tried over multiple visits has been great though. Overall, it was an awesome late-night spot with tasty bites, good vibes, and food that hits even harder after a few drinks. We'll definitely keep coming back for more... especially those darn chicken feet.

I was craving Korean fried chicken one night after work, and checked google and TikTok to see what my best options were since it was kind of late at night (10pm). To my surprise, Hanshin Pocha was top rated on both Google and TikTok. There were lots of people on TikTok raving about this restaurant all over the country, (It seems to be a chain). So I decided to give it a shot. At first glance, this late night eatery is pretty cute. It has a bit of a vibe to it, playing K-pop in the background and bright with different colored neon lights. I really enjoyed the ambience. It felt fun. When it comes to the food, I'm not exactly sure how to feel. This was my first experience in this type of Korean restaurant. I've had Korean food before, but I've never had the dishes I had smothered in mozzarella cheese and what not. I'm really not sure how I felt about it. I love cheese, and I do love Korean food, but I don't know that I loved them together. Just my preference. The menu is huge. So there are lots of dishes to choose from. They don't all have cheese on them. I just chose what seemed to be the most popular on TikTok like the kimchi fried rice, and the chicken of course. If I'm being completely honest, I didn't love the chicken. The sauce wasn't bad, but my boyfriend kept comparing it to ketchup, and that left a bad taste in my mouth. It just wasn't quite what I was hoping for or expecting when ordering Korean fried chicken. But I suppose there are several ways you can do it. So I'm not trying to knock them, it just wasn't my favorite. I loved the presentation of the kimchi fried rice. It looked so good. And it was tasty, it was just hard to eat with all of the mozzarella cheese, burnt to the bottom of the skillet. It felt like we had to scrape the dish off of the plate that it served on. And that's while it was hot. Don't let it cool down, because then the cheese congealed into a rock solid form, and it's almost impossible to eat after that. Even when I tried to reheat it at home, it could not be brought back to life. We also tried the fried potstickers. And I don't think I took any notes on them. I can hardly remember what I thought about them, so I'm going to say they were forgettable. That doesn't mean they were bad. They were just average potstickers I guess. One of my favorite things about this place is their hours for starters. I love a late night restaurant. So I really appreciate them for being open as late as they are. And secondly, I really appreciated their drink options. They had a lot of different Korean beverages that you don't typically find on menus, such as pear juice, and pocari sweat. All in all, despite my opinions on the food, I think this place is definitely worth checking out. While I might not have loved something, I could absolutely see why somebody else might enjoy it. It's a fun spot to try something different and get outside of your comfort zone.

A very cute Korean place with good vibes. The menu has a wide variety of food, Korean stew, fried chicken, and even marinated raw crab. Price is very reasonable given that the portion is quite large, it is recommended to visit this place as a big group so you get to try more food. They also open till late, so it will be a pretty good spot for those who want some late night food and drinks.

Extremely Disappointed in the lack of care for customers. We ordered the seafood pancake since most of our table does not eat pork. They give us a "pork" pancake which had eggshells in the pancake. Our table had issues with the tab where the orders were confused with a different table and the servers first response was, "YOU ordered it, so YOU have to eat it." We ended up calling the manager and talking to people on the other table, and got it figured out, but that experience was incredible rude. Additionally, this place is not located in a safe environment. While eating, our friend's car got broken into . Very disappointed, do not recommend coming here again.

It's a Korean restaurant with variety of hot pot, fried chicken and bowls. Service was OK. Staff was responsive. Indoor setting with booths and tables. Ambient is a bit KPop style with KPop shows playing on big screen with nice music. Ambient can easily get laud. Food was not as expected, bowls were so sweet watery, no ingredients, tasteless. Boneless Fried chicken was so oily, fatty low quality meat. Items are very expensive. Just check the menu! For sure you can get better food else where. None (group of four) could finish their meal despite starving. We ended up MacDonald opposite street for a bit to just change the mouth taste! They seem to play up the game much ahead of tariff/inflation hit! Understand it's a chain reaction and their cost might have gone up too and sorry for businesses :(

Food was yummy! We got the soy sauce squid, spicy tteokbokki, & chicken with cheese. Lots of seating inside. Floors were a little sticky. Service was great, they have a light at the end of the table you can use to signal for any questions.

I can't recall who recommended this spot, but it did not disappoint and was better than I'd thought it would be. I decided to stop by (without making a reservation) on a Wednesday night with my family and the entire restaurant was empty. We were the only customers there the entire time. I'm assuming more people come here for a late night meal rather than dinner? We ordered the following items and it was more than enough for the 4 of us. - Cheese Pork BBQ - the pork was tender and had a little kick to it and paired perfectly with the mozzarella cheese. - Hanshin Chicken - a whole chicken that is extremely crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It even comes with seasoning on the side to dip the chicken in. - Stir-Fried Seafood - loved the crispy fried noodles and all the seafood that came with it but could have used a bit more flavor. I would stop by again to try other items on their menu. Telegraph Ave is known for many Korean restaurants but parking can be a bit tricky due to limited street parking.

This is a go-to place for me and my friends! I've been here multiple times. Today, I came with a bigger party to celebrate a friend's birthday! We split order by different tables, since we were a big group! All the food and alcohol was good , except service was a bit slow for my table specifically. We had to ask multiple times for one of our dishes that we ordered a while ago. We did eventually get it as our last dish. However, I understand they could've had a busier day and just forgot. They gave us a free dish to make up the situation. All good!! overall, I love this place! I think the food in general is delicious and service is great! 10/10 would recommend !

Stopped by here with a friend and it was relatively busy. They seated us pretty quickly. I will say, the vibes were very good. We were definitely the smallest group in the restaurant and after getting seated and our menu, we ordered drinks and said we needed some time with the menu and they gave us a lot of time. When we did order, food came pretty quickly and was solid. Is it my new favorite Korean spot? No, but it's a great place if you want to wow a friend with a cheese pull.

I can here for late night eats after a concert on a Friday night and I really loved the vibes! I honestly love the chairs. They were weirdly so comfortable and low to the ground but something about it stood out to me. We ordered two dishes and I just remembered the pork with cheese being very salty. You were supposed to wrap it in the cheese, and so that would make things better. I definitely love a good spicy, sour, salty, cheesy, combo at night so it hit the spot for me! The portion sizes are also huge. Me and 2 friends were stuffed!

I ordered the garlic fried chicken and the tteokbokki. Both were tasty, but the tteokbokki was a little spicier than expected. The chicken was okay for me--just came in really big pieces.

Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. Here's what we had: Wine of the Day * Rosé (100% Zweigelt), Stefan Pratsch, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2024 ($16) "N/A Libations" and other drinks * Cherry Bomb! non-alcoholic cocktail ($13) - Tilden Lacewing, Amarena cherry, lime, ginger beer, tall glass * Shirley Temple ($5) * Diet Coke ($5) * Iced Tea ($4) Soup & Salad * Red & Golden Beet Salad x2 ($16 each, one with fish added for $8) - frisee, castelfranco, pistachios, orange segments, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Cara Cara orange vinaigrette Sandwiches * The Hot Pastrami x2 ($25 each) - Emmentaler cheese, Dijon-horseradish dressing, La Farine baguette Old Reliables * Seafood Stew ($32) - rock cod, Manila clams, PEI mussels, calamari, butter beans, fennel, leeks, chili flakes, garlic toast * Pork Ragu Casarecce ($30) - Castelvetrano olives, Pecorino Romano, Grana Padano, chili flakes, parsley * Tavern Burger with French Fries on Acme Soft Bun with All the Fixins x3 ($25 each, two with cheddar added for $2 each) Everything was excellent. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. We split one of the salads and the stew, so they came out plated and served in half portions which was nice of the kitchen staff to do.

Some staff members looked rather bored. I didn't order alcohol. I just wanted to eat. I chose a chili cheese dog, which included Garlic fries. I paid $14, after tip. The large portions are appreciated. Really wished it all had been yummy. I can't say that it was tasty, and memorably delicious. It looked more appetizing than it actually tasted. Which is not great. The chili was not flavorful, and it was almost cold. Not warmed up first, just slapped on top of the dog. Which made for a strange eating experience. Normally the chili is the hottest part of that particular item. A toasted bun (which is preferable) may have made a difference. The dog itself wasn't terrible. The fries were attractive. I'm into the shoestring potatoes. I was not wowed when it came to the taste. Not a huge deal. I probably should've ordered a slice of pizza, which they may be kind of popularly known for. On our way out, we noticed a back room set up for comedy nights, although it wasn't in use at the time. We were told they usually have comedy shows every Friday night and sometimes on Saturday, depending on other events. We definitely plan to come back in the evening to catch a comedy show or just for drinks, but I doubt we'll return for a meal.

When you dine with foodies who don't mind indulging you get to try a variety of items from: STARTERS :: TURNIP TOTS - crispy exterior with an unexpected creamy interior. Recommended by Cherylynn N to get and glad we did! :: SQUID INK PASTA with Dungeness crab - perfectly cooked pasta with a wonderful acidic yet briny broth - piece of leg meat crab. Of course, wish it had more :: PAPPERDELLE with duck sugo - wide noodles perfectly al dente with rich tomato based, red wine duck ragu with a slight kick from black pepper. Comfort food MAINS :: BEEF SHORT RIB - wonderfully tender and like butta. Definitely sous vide and finished off with some smoke. Served with some Korean Gochujang, red-leaf lettuce and sliced pickle daikon to be eaten like a wrap - FAVE dish. NOTE: They alternate this dish with the Klingeman pork chop so wasn't a Thursday option. :: BLACK COD - miso braised with yuzu broth Perfectly cooked, easily flaked that just melts -in-the-mouth! We ordered a variety of desserts: decadent budino, refreshing pomegranate sorbet, and a rich sticky toffee pudding. All worth a try but the cake for the sticky toffee pudding was a tad dry. The accompanying rich buttery toffee sauce poured on top was lick the plate worthy. SERVICE - our server, Daniela was amazing. Answered multiple questions and educated us on some items. Friendly, patient and true professional. All staff inviting and on point. Highly recommend a visit and expect to pay $$$ but well worth the splurge. Because of that, I chose it to celebrate two of my friends' birthdays on April 11. I was genuinely excited to treat them to a beautiful dinner. That's not what happened. From the moment we sat down, something felt off. We had just come from the Alvin Ailey show and were catching up, so we were taking our time. Still, it felt like we were being rushed. The pacing of the food made no sense. The salad came out quickly, which was fine, but before we even started it, two fried dishes hit the table. I asked directly if they were trying to rush us because I've been here many times and that has never happened. The response I got felt dismissive, like I didn't understand how they serve their food. I do. This was different. By the time we got to the fried dishes, they were cold and not good. And honestly, they didn't seem hot when they first came out. That pretty much set the tone. The pasta came later and was also cold. At that point, I asked to speak with the owner. I've met her before when I've come in with my boyfriend and she's always been warm and present. This time I was told she was busy, and while I could see she was in the back of the house, she did not appear so busy that she couldn't step away briefly to address a guest who was clearly disappointed. No one ever came back to follow up. The main dishes didn't recover anything. The cod had no flavor and was cold. The pork chop was tough, fatty, and just not good. It didn't feel like the same kitchen at all. What made it harder to ignore was looking around the room. Other tables were getting a completely different experience. Food coming out properly paced, hot, and with attention. Our table felt like an afterthought, especially after we raised a concern early on. At one point, someone offered to take two dishes off the bill. I appreciated the gesture, but that wasn't the issue. I wasn't trying to get anything for free. I was trying to give my friends a really nice birthday dinner. This is a Michelin-recognized restaurant, which is exactly why I chose it. I've known them to deliver. That's what made this experience so disappointing. It felt rushed, disorganized, and careless. I don't know what's going on there right now, but it was not the same experience I've had before. I won't be going back. PS. Normally I take pictures, but didn't because the food was that disappointing!

A fantastic, unfussy, charming wedding reception venue for a smaller wedding group…read more My now-spouse and I had been struggling to find a good covered outdoor wedding reception venue that fit our budget, allowed external catering, and was small enough for the 50-ish guests we were expecting -- it seemed like every "wedding venue" felt overly fancy and was better suited to a 100+ person group. But then we found Portal! We're not fussy people, and we loved the more down-to-earth vibe of their patio. Plus, it's got heaters and an extendable cover, which was exactly what we wanted! The previous owner, Kevyn, was great to work with, as was the current owner, Mona. We decided to rent the patio and have Portal provide drink service and dishes, but we knew that we wanted a specific restaurant (which doesn't have its own seating area) to provide the food. Kevyn and Mona were both totally down for that, and completely helped us bring our vision to life. There was space for our 50 guests to sit, for the buffet, plus enough space left over for a small dance floor area. Really perfect for our group. Amber, their bartender and events coordinator, deserves a particular shout-out. She worked with my spouse and me to come up with three custom mocktails that fit our taste preferences and even thought of cute love-themed names for all of them! She really went above and beyond for it, having a mocktail tasting for us and even sourcing a non-alcoholic champagne to use for n/a mimosas and in one of the mocktails. It was a wonderful experience, and Amber was a joy to work with. She the one making the mocktails (and alcoholic drinks for guests who wanted them) during the reception, and we heard constant compliments. I imagine we'll be back for anniversary brunches in the future :)

My only question is....WHY haven't I been here sooner?! I…read morewas craving pastrami, so I looked on yelp for pastrami in the area. My mom and I came in around 2pm on Monday (8/11). It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

The inside has a nice modern look and there is a lounge to the side open for happy hour. We sat in there which has its own bar. It is very cozy. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and I ordered the French Onion soup with a bacon grilled cheese. Our waiter started off well but when he came to get our orders he didn't write anything down and I had to repeat myself twice. The first time he was facing my husband, the second he came to my side and I pointed at the menu while slowly repeating my order. I simply wanted a grilled cheese with bacon added no avocado as it is advertised as an add on, on the menu. As he walked away a part of me knew my order was going to be messed up. Low and behold my soup arrives with a side of bacon. I then explained again what I ordered. A few moments pass and he comes back and then my husband explains what I wanted. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but it just didn't seem to register. I truly did not think asking for soup & bacon grilled cheese would be so difficult. By this time my husband had already received his salad which was delicious. Finally, he comes back with my soup, a grilled cheese and the bacon ON THE SIDE. If I ordered a bacon grilled cheese why would you give me like this? Why not make my grilled cheese and add the bacon inside? To make matters worse the French onion soup was so bland not even salt could save it. It tasted like a nothingness broth. The grilled cheese was better once I made it myself. The waiter never came back to check on us. The manager hovered by for a while but we had to even flag him down for the check. I left hungry and got a meal at the airport. Would not recommend. If you can't remember an order as a waiter please just write it down.
