Short rib koja w/ fried egg
    Annabelle R.

This is a cozy restaurant that shares a space with a vietnamese cafe. There was no wait to order at the kiosks on a Saturday late afternoon, the 5-minute ready time was not bad at all, and service was friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating was limited, and no restrooms were available on site. Parking in the area is a pain too. Got the original bbq short rib koja with a fried egg. I enjoyed the tender flavorful meat sandwiched inside two thick slices of garlic rice which had a softer consistency than what I'm used to at other Koja Kitchen locations. The koja burger was saucy with some gravy on it, and it got messy, easily falling apart. Luckily I don't mind eating with a fork. And my meal was satisfying nonetheless. I was no doubt a happy gal.

Catered delivery! Friendly service. Delicious food. The presentation of the summer rolls were pretty and included labels for the variety.

    Too Good To Go

I got a Too Good To Go meal at Koja Kitchen on Friday night , March 28, 2025. Total cost including tax was a little over $6 which would make this a great deal. Keep reading. In it, there was fried rice, French fries, some spring mix salad, some chicken pieces, and if you look at my photos, there's HALF a shredded Egg Roll. It's not a clean cut half egg roll. It's shredded in half! I took photos of both sides of the half shredded eggroll. The other half was NOT in this container box. I'm like... what??? I don't know why the eggroll wasn't CUT in half. Because seeing a half shredded egg roll to me, looks like someone took a bite of the egg roll, and didn't want the other half. Nasty. This may not be the case, it just looks like that. I rather get the eggroll that's a full eggroll or I rather they didn't include this half eggroll that looks like someone took a bite from it. I'm a germaphobe and I decided to not eat the box because of that half shredded egg roll. I really home that wasn't someone's discarded eggroll and Koja Kitchen decided to place it in my Too Good To Go order. I rather not have that eggroll at all to begin with.

    Short Rib KoJa (w/ pineapple)

I found out of Koja kitchen through their excellent food trucks. I'm a huge fan of the unique rice buns and how it can create a "burger" and yet be its own thing. My short rib with pineapple was juicy but wasn't overly saucy. I've been enjoying this yummy place for quite sometime and I highly recommend both the short rib AND the teriyaki zen.

Perfect place for a delicious lunch, quick take out etc. Small space with limited seating in and out but the food makes it all worthwhile. Japanese/ Korean Asian fusion with super fresh ingredients, friendly staff and prompt service. We had Ahi tuna bowls that were delicious, fresh ingredients, nicely sauced, including seaweed salad and a crazy good imitation crab salad. Nice that they offer both brown and white rice.

I've been to this Koja Kitchen as well as their other locations and food truck for awhile now, so this review is long overdue. We always get the kamikaze fries no matter the location. It's the right amount of spice, meat, sauce, and fries. They're always consistent no matter the location so that's a huge plus. This time around, my husband and I both got the ahi tuna bowl along with our fries. We both found the bowl to be delicious and very filling. Since there are not many poké places around the Richmond district, it's nice to have this dish to fulfill that craving. In the past, we've had their kojas and tacos as well. All were really good. This location and its staff are usually really chill. If you get it to -go at an off hour, expect your food to be ready in 5-10 minutes. During high peak times, they usually take an average of 15 minutes.

First time since they moved to this location. I went with the Ahi Tuna Salad - mixed greens topped with crab salad, seaweed salad, edamame, and spicy ahi. Everything tasted pretty fresh and it was quite filling.

Delicious fusion food! My favorite was the Umami Fries; probably the best fries I've ever had. The Koja was dry and not my cup of tea; the garlic rice was hard to eat. I still think the Kojas are worth a try though! The bowls were very delicious. I would totally come here again just for the Umami Fries; the pork on it was to die for. The ordering process was a little confusing as I didn't know we had to go the cashier to order, but it wasn't difficult to figure out. Solid restaurant!

The coconut braised pork koja. Like the filling.

Recently had lunch here. We dined in. Special note: As of right now, 9/7/2021, you will need to show your vax card to eat inside all restaurants in San Francisco, including the semi-outdoor areas. If it's outside dining, no need to show proof of vax. Back to regular review: We had the short rib bowl and Kamikaze (bbq beef) bowl. Both tasted too sweet. My Hb thought his special menu order of the Kamikaze bowl was overrated. It's too sweet, too much sauce, nothing really special about it according to him. I didn't eat his bowl, but I feel the same about my bowl--way too sweet. Like they used too much sugar to compensate for flavor. I used to really like Koja, so this is really disappointing.

Signage of KoJa Kitchen & the Yellow awning of Little Vietnam Cafe!
    Russell H.

While strolling through the Inner Richmond District of San Francisco on Clement Street...tucked away on 6th Avenue I came upon an awning in Bright Yellow that had "Little Vietnam Cafe" scripted on it...and then if you look up you too will see a sign for "Kojo Kitchen"...with a little bit of searching I discovered that both of these establishments are swished together in one kitchen...(talk about smart business practices). Anyhow I was thinking about ordering some Vietnamese cuisine but I was diverted to the KoJa Kitchen menu...I asked the friendly guy behind the cash register what he liked and he asked me which menu...I replied with KoJa Kitchen...I then asked what dish he would recommend for my first order and he replied try the "Beef Bowl"...I said lets go for it and along with that I ordered their Strawberry Mango Mint Lemonade. When my order arrived (quick I might add) I was pleased with their Beef Bowl which I ordered with Brown Rice but along with that it came with just the right amount of Kim Chee, the Beef was marinated with a sprinkling of Sesame Seed, and finally Salad greens...I would call this dish a well balanced meal!!! The Lemonade was a bit sweet but it went well with my meal. So to sum up my experience with KoJa Kitchen they deserve a 5 Star Rating. I sat inside and ate my meal on their counter facing 6th Avenue. There is seating outside but it was a bit chilly..."Karl decided to show up but he is a huge welcome because of the HOT Spell weather we just experienced"!!!

    Umami Fries
    Cheri L.

Koja Kitchen is a great stop for some asian fusion snacks! They have things on their menu like rice burgers, bowls, and tacos. My order was the Umami Fries which includes Crisscut waffle fries, miso-coconut braised pork, red sauce, garlic aioli, green onions, masago, fried onions. The flavors were perfect enough to satisfy my comfort food needs. The pork was soft, but did have a couple of fatty piecesin there (not for me, but good if you like that). Ordering is walk up, and they have cups of water available. Napkins and ketchup and a bit in the back near the soda machine. It didn't seem like there was indoor dining but their outdoor seating is nice, more of like a patio situation. Overall, a good place to stop by for a bite if you're craving for some unique food in the area.

What is left of a chicken taco and famous fries
    Brett S.

I get the whole Koja experience, a fusing of such varied tastes and styles that it feels like California in single bites. But sometimes the execution misses the mark. The kamikaze fries were the best part of the meal, perfectly cut wedge fries and tender savory beef. The tacos though, served on two stale corn tortillas, they just made my Mexican grandmother cry a little bit. There are some combos that will not be better elsewhere--a tangy, maybe wasabi mayo for the chicken taco, delightful. And the pork was tender and tasty. But for this price and this reputation of great food truck to store front, I expected more. We will be back to try again!!!

Daeho Kalbijim - 5*/5, this is the star of the show, order with or without the shredded mozzarella cheese on top that they flame with two hand torches. Unbelievably delicious, tender short rib accompanied by generous chunks of potato, turnip, carrot, onion, rice cake, and I always like to add one or two orders of glass noodles which really soak up the flavors at the bottom. We've had kalbijim at the supposedly best place in LA's Ktown and it paled in comparison to Daeho. For six people we ordered one with cheese and one without and had lots of leftovers. You also get bonchon (four different kinds) which they will refill. So what you get in addition (if anything) is a bit of a debate. After trying a few items in the past, I've decided starting with the mandoo tang is the best option - light, oxtail soup, with 5-6 mandoo gives you a nice start before you dig into all the meat in the kalbijim. I highly recommend Daeho's kalbijim! and you can walk around Jtown (the mall is across the street) before or after and do some fun shopping!

Now... if we could've only walked in the right direction, we would've been here within minutes from our hotel, lol! While it was still bright at 7 p.m, as you walk in, the windows are darkened and outdoor lights were strung up inside to set the mood. It felt like you were transformed into another world. Inside seating is limited and each table has a touch lamp. This makes for a more intimate setting. For my daughter and I, we were excited to try something different. Midori was our server. She quickly got us some waters to start. We ordered an apple mango Soju. Soju is a popular alcoholic beverage in Korea. It was very smooth and slightly sweet. My daughter enjoys these. For dinner, we ordered 3 rolls: The Rainbow Roll The Lion King Van Ness Roll All these rolls were very tasty, and my daughter's favorite, The Lion King. She normally goes for this one at any sushi restaurant, but here at Yasijang, the Lion King was unique. It was darkened on top. It seemed to be cooked more to give it extra texture. It was interestingly delicious for me and super delicious for her. I enjoyed all the rolls, but if I had to pick one I liked the most it would be the Van Ness Roll. I like rolls with texture (the cucumber), and this rolls has the thinnest slice of lemon in it.. it made it taste refreshing! My daughter isn't a fan of Wasabi or ginger, so that leaves it all for me... and I do enjoy bites of ginger and here and there. I will put the Wasabi on straight... although ending with that slight burning in my sinus... I don't put it on every roll... but I do use most of what I'm given depending on my mood. While sitting, we watched Midori serve the other tables some interesting dishes, like the Samgyeopsal Gui.. grilled pork belly with kimcheein on a sizzling plate. The smell was beautifully intoxicating for me. They also ordered a soup that cooked at the table. I want to come back to try those! While we had such an amazing experience here, I wouldn't recommend coming here with large groups as it seems to only be able to accommodate 1 larger group at a time and the rest of the tables for 2-3 comfortably after the food is out. However, I highly recommend coming here to try their unique flavors. Yasijang is at the top of my places to go when I come back to visit SF!

My friend and I came here right at 5pm before seeing a 7pm show at the Orpheum on a Tuesday…read moreevening. The place was much smaller than I originally thought and the seating arrangements were interesting. What turned me off was the place smelling like cleaning solution because I'm guessing they cleaned right before opening. It went away after a bit, but it wasn't a great first impression. Food was surprisingly good. - The Spam Roulette was a fun appetizer if you and your company are daring enough. I didn't get the wasabi bomb, but my friend said it was packed - be warned! - The Mini Jeon was very crispy. It was good on its own or with the sauce. Solid choice for something crispy. - The corn cheese was the star. This was by far one of the best that I've had. It's creamy, buttery, and the corn was sweet. The best part was that the cheese had a really nice char flavor from the blow torch. It boosted the flavor of the entire dish. The flavors just worked beautifully in that dish. Highly recommend. - The Sooyuk was a sleeper. It was good but I've had better. - The Volcano Roll was solid. I was hesitant getting sushi at a Korean forward spot, but it was good. Service was okay. There were times we had to signal to the server we were ready or needed their attention because they were talking to another staff. This was when it was just us inside the restaurant. When there were more parties, the service was better. The food came out at a good pace and the server checked in on us multiple times so that's a plus. If you need a place before a downtown show, this is a solid spot that you can go to. They take reservations too which is nice.

I first started eating at this place around 1990 and have at times stopped going once I moved out of the city. I try to go at least once a year. Have always enjoyed their clams, dried fried chicken, jia jiang mian, and seafood noodle soup. Clams were still plentiful, plump, and very fresh. Noodle were still good. The owner recommended I try the Jjamppong and tubot. The jjamppong like their other noodles were good but the standout was the turbot: steamed to perfection, fresh, and tasty. I can't compare it to other fish but it was soft, smooth, and buttery. I have seen the owner before cooking in the kitchen but it looks now father time has caught up and he is thoroughly enjoying helping out in the front. He was talkative and pleasant to talk to.

So I found this place and we walked in with few customers. We ordered a soup, and were about to order something else when the server/cook suggested we order the meal for 3. He let us substitute the white rice for fried rice and cashew chicken for lemon chicken that we wanted. Boy was it a real treat. We added a chicken chow mein and we weren't disappointed. All in all, we came out stuffed with leftovers, and great service to boot. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time which was surprising, how great the food and service were. Come here and you won't regret it!
