For the salads I highly recommend the tea leaf salad especially if you've never had it before. It's quite unique. The mango salad is quite good too with the unripen mangos so it isn't super sweet. It has a zesty dressing. The rainbow salad is good but it's more like a cold noodle dish and less greens so depends on what you are looking for. The samusa soup is good! The coconut chicken soup and noodle dishes used to be my favorite thing on the menu. But now it's a little to heavy, creamy, and rich for me. I would recommend sharing this one because it's so tasty. I love their coconut rice great with any of their curries or to complement the protein dishes. The garlic noodles don't wow me but they're good and great to go with a meal. The sesame chicken is good and tangy but it is breaded chicken. So depends on if you are up for that. The chili lamb is super good and so is the beef curry. They have a rice dish with chicken and shrimp that is good too. If you are okay with sweet things the mango chicken is good. And then they have some spicy dishes that are good if you like the spice. I don't love their green beans which is sad because I usually like this style of green beans which. They're a little spicy for my taste but maybe that's exactly what you are looking for. We ended up waiting quite a while for the check, and the person at the front ended up helping us. As for the food, it was honestly pretty average. I think there are better Burmese options in the Bay Area now. 3/5 - Roti The dipping sauce lacked flavor, and the roti tasted like it wasn't made fresh. It was hard on the outside and arrived about a minute after ordering. 3/5 - Garlic Noodles with Chicken The noodles were thick and somewhat bland. They weren't served very hot, and the chicken was shredded rather than the style I expected. 3/5 - Chicken Basil Stir Fry It was saucy, but the flavors were muted and didn't stand out. Overall, this location felt like it may have been better in the past. Between the disappointing food and forgettable service, it wasn't a memorable experience. It has more authentic items like the Burmese Fish Chowder or Tea Leaf salads, as well as Thai and Chinese style Asian food. On warm days you can choose some of the lighter fare and on cold days, there's warm and comforting choices. What soured my last experience was the initial staff. I came in the early evening, with a service dog, and the staff who greeted me was noticeably uncomfortable. They immediately asked if I could sit outside, while gesturing toward the dog. Since it was a cold night, I asked to be seated inside. The staff consulted with 2 other staff members, specifically about the dog, until another staff came to inform me that all inside tables were reserved. The restaurant was half empty. I informed them under ADA, I can't be treated differently due to the dog, but they vehemently insisted there were reservations. Rather than argue, we agreed to be outside in the cold. When I began to sit at one of the outside tables, they insisted I move to another table in the corner. It felt very much like I was being treated differently. After we sat down, the service was quick. I've never had such a fast meal at a sit-down restaurant - we were in/out in 45 minutes. While we were eating, I saw multiple people go in and get seated inside. In fact, for the majority of the time we ate, the people arriving were seated immediately. I could give them the benefit of the doubt that these were all reservations, if I didn't clearly hear their staff ask how many people were in their party. If they had a reservation, why would that question be needed? Further, because we were seated outside, I kept having to be mindful of people walking their pet dogs and potential aggression toward the service dog. This happened multiple times as people were doing their evening dog walks. The sad thing is that I would have considered this place a 5-star rating were it not for the first interaction with staff. The food was great (as always). The service was quick. And despite us being outside, they came and checked in with us many times. First impressions are very hard to overcome, and the feeling of being unwanted never left me as I dined. In hindsight, I really should have just left.
