Cute Thai restaurant in a unique and fun outdoor plaza with local shops and restaurants. We stopped by for a quick dinner while on vacation. Everything was perfect when we stopped by this place. During our vacation we were mostly having poke bowls and on our last day we wanted something warm and savory, something for our soul lol and we found just the right spot for that! I rarely write a review on Google maps but cannot help but feel indignant to discourage any prospective customer from trying the food here. We ordered a $20 Tom Yum soup with only mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes in a tomato-soup base. No hint of shrimp paste, Thai chili base, fish sauce, lime leaf, and galangal. Very bland taste of lemongrass. Adding shrimp costs $6 more. The green curry tasted like just thawed from a microwave. The broth was over diluted with congealed oil floating around. The thinly sliced chicken was overcooked and very tough to chew. I ordered the "must try" crying tiger which is a steak with a sweet and sour sauce. I ordered it medium but it came well done. The steak had grill char marks on it but looked and tasted like thawed from frozen. No juice came out of it while cutting the steak. The sticky rice that goes with the dish came in a plastic bag hoarding inside a basket. This is simply the WORST Thai food I've ever had anywhere and I paid $100 for it. The service was good and the wait time for food was okay. At this price point you must hire a better chef and make food fresh or the customers will stop coming. read more

I am not sure who is reviewing this place but they are wrong. The food is terrible! The calamari was over breaded and oily, the katsu with curry was cold and had not flavor and the pad Thai was gloopy, way to sweet with shrimp that was not properly cleaned. Overall the food was hard to stomach, literally! Lastly, they had a really bad house band that was way to loud and sounded like Yoko Ono screeching at you. read more

I wish I could recommend this "Thai" Place but the service was horrendous and the food was mediocre. When we walked in ( only 2 of us) we were told/ asked... "outside?" Which I said, "sure". When the gal came to take our order she sternly informed me no alcohol outside. Ummm... ok I wasn't ordering an alcoholic beverage. I ordered the "Hawaiian Curry" which simply means they threw in some canned pineapple chunks. It was piping hot and had ok flavor as long as you didn't get any of the pineapple, which had a weird black licorice flavor. The rice was in a small side dish. It would have been presented way better had it been in a hollowed out half pineapple. My son ordered the Katsu curry. Not sure how Katsu is Thai but ok. It was a piece of breaded aka: Katsu chicken served on top of a large amount of rice and a side serving of curry. The rice was lukewarm warm and the "curry" was room temperature. I would have mentioned something but we were never checked on after it was dropped off. All in all I would not recommend this place for Curry or even sushi. The food here was absolutely DE-LICIOUS! Why am I giving it 3 stars then? Unfortunately, as a gluten-free diner, my experience was inconsistent and confusing. Our server confidently assured us of certain gluten-free options, only for another server to contradict them entirely. With over 27 years of navigating gluten-free dining, I'm usually quite cautious, asking a lot of questions but this situation left me uncertain as to whether they knew what they were talking about. For those without dietary restrictions, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. It is in a really nice shopping area which you should check out if you leave yourself enough time. We went on our last day and didn't leave enough time to explore. Also, the food is fantastic, and the 3D-like wall art is a unique touch. I sat there for an hour and a half wondering if it was 3D or not and finally had to go and touch it. The server smiled and said something to the effect of many people have to do that. To improve the dining experience for gluten-free customers, I suggest the restaurant invest in comprehensive food allergy training for staff. Offering more gluten-free options, like using gluten-free tamari or soy sauce, would also be greatly appreciated. I know firsthand how easy it is to incorporate gluten-free ingredients into Thai cuisine. And as someone who is truly gluten free, it makes so happy when restaurants are knowledgeable about gluten free options (which many in Kuaui are) and have many options other than just removing a sauce and giving me bland food as an alternative. It was crowded and many people were smiling and having a great time. The live music just started and some people were dancing. The performers were playing multiple instruments and interacted with the crowd. We ordered several sushi items off of the "special menu." There's even corn dogs for the kids who don't eat sushi. Mai tai tasted like fruit loops, 20 ounce beers with 3 inches of foam at the top. So basically 16 ounces for the price of a 20 ounces. The other alcohol 'mixed' drinks served with only alcohol and not fixed upon request. Sour tasting ground beef served. This spot left a bad taste in my mouth. Decided to try after seeing high Yelp ratings. I was curious about the omelette Pad Thai, so we ordered that, along with Hawaiian curry, kids' items, and drinks. The food was decent but a bit bland for my taste-- though, some chili oil helped. While it wasn't life-changing, I wasn't expecting it to be. Wrapped up and asked for the bill. It came out to about ~$70. We asked to pay via Apple Pay and when they brought the terminal over they added a $29.50 surcharge in between! They said their system adds it automatically for parties of 5. We asked what it was for and they only reiterated the same. Another waiter came over and also said it's a 20% surcharge for parties of 5 (we are 2 adults and 3 small kids). I pointed out that they were charging over 40% for this unclear surcharge. After much discussion, they took the terminal back and said it was an error and corrected it to a 20% "surcharge". I was still confused because no where on the menu, on the door/inside, or on the bill itself did it mention this surcharge based on party size, and the surcharge wasn't listed on the printed bill either. I completed the payment on the terminal which still asked for gratuity on top of this. I am still unclear about the charge, the lack of transparency is problematic. What a treasure! We just happened upon Kōloa Thai Bistro after visiting the Kauai Juice Co downstairs. I'm so glad we gave it a try. The atmosphere is laid back and perfect for families. We ordered crab Rangoon, spring rolls, chicken satay and papaya salad to start. Everything was delicious. For our entrees we ordered the Hawaiian curry and the steak salad. SO Yummy! I asked the server if the shrimp locally sourced she promptly said yes. My worst experience so far on the island. They have a separate vegan options and we made sure with the server what we ordered was all vegan, no fish or oyster sauce. We specially asked not to give anything deep fried since they use same oil for meat too.
