We got a call a few hours before our event that they couldn't show up because their driver was sick. I was counting on them and we were left with lots of disappointed people on a hot summer day. They should have back up drivers or connections to other Kona locations incase things like this happen. Summer and shaved ice are a perfect combination. With the hot weather we are seeing lately in So Cal; the Kona Ice of truck was a perfect truck to have at a recent picnic we had. I found the concept of the truck to be good. It is make your own shaved ice. The guy working in the colorful shaved ice truck will handed me a cup of crushed ice and then I was off to pick the different flavors from self serve syrup stations. They've got a variety of syrups from pina colada to tiger's blood. The shaved ice I tried was refreshing for a hot day. However I wished there were some other toppings I could add. There's no condensed milk or ice cream or other special toppings that would make it more tasty. It's all about syrup and ice; so very basic and simple. This D.I.Y. experience lets you decide how many flavors and how much syrup to use. I mixed blueberry and watermelon. Until I read their website, I didn't realize the first ingredient in these concoctions is fruit, and they are loaded with vitamins C and D and sweetened with Stevia. They pulled up just outside our house in Pasadena which was great! Was excited to try, almost ordered until I was told they don't give change or take card. I only had 20's and couldn't order anything for my girlfriend and myself. I can't support you if you don't accept my money or give change - very inconvenient. We had this at a movie & food truck event and bought 4 of them since it was hot and we were thirsty. After 2 spoonfuls we couldn't even eat it. To the trash they went. The ice was great but the strawberry and watermelon syrup tasted like plastic. Just a totally artificial taste also tasted like the sweetener was like splenda or something and was oddly too thick. Taste good! It can't compare to traditional Hawaiian shave ice but this is the closest! It's considered pretty cheap, different price range for different size. They let you refill on syrup free of charge. Very enjoy and family friend. It's tasty during the summer heat! read more

Our neighborhood recently had a 4th of July parade and picnic and Kona Ice Truck was there. The lady was really nice and helpful.
