Excellent communication prior to the event and excellent service. The truck arrived on time and called me upon arrival. Would definitely order their service in future summer events.

Thanks to the producers of an indie film I was working on, the cast and crew were treated to a Kona Ice truck this week. It was a perfect way to cool off on a warm afternoon. Once you're handed a cup of shaved ice, choose your flavor(s) from a fun contraption on the side of the truck called a Flavorwave. Try all ten or just go with one. This D.I.Y. experience lets you decide how many flavors and how much syrup to use. I mixed blueberry and watermelon. Until I read their website, I didn't realize the first ingredient in these concoctions is fruit, and they are loaded with vitamins C and D and sweetened with Stevia. No idea what the flavor of the day "Wedding Cake" tasted like, but it sounded interesting. What a refreshing treat! Try Kona Ice free when they give it away for Tax Day on April 18th. Ice, ice, baby!

    Kona hard at work!

$5 for two kiddie size, or $5 for one king size! Flavor of the day today was rootbeer. It was amazing. Awesome staff! Even had a little doggie bowl for dogs. They're not at Kidspace every day but you can fine their location on Twitter and Instagram @konapasadena

Small portion of the line to purchase shaved ice. Not an enjoyable experience.

Had a truck sent out to my highschool today, stood outside in 91° weather for 40 mintues just for the one person working to close up shop right as I got up to the window. My friend almost got a heat stroke from standing there so long and everyone was dripping sweat. Absolutely ridiculous.

We were staying in K-Town this time so we went to the Sawtelle location. We stopped by after dinner so I was a little worried they might have run out of mochi but luckily, it looked like they still had everything available. I was just going to add mochi as a topping but then my son pointed out M.B.R. I was like, "What is that???" He explained that it stands for Mochi, Brown Sugar Syrup, and Roasted Soybean Powder toppings. Those are some of my favorite flavors together so of course, I had to get that instead! The brown sugar syrup was a little overpowering but it was still delicious! Their ice cream tastes just like the soft-serve ice cream I get in Japan which I absolutely love. You just can't compare it to the ordinary soft serve you get in the US. I wish I could have this any day I wanted! We'll be back in LA again next year so I'll definitely be going back!

Over the last couple of years, the charm of this café has faded, culminating in a truly awful experience this morning. The solo staff member working today was incredibly discourteous. Because I had my leashed dog with me, she practically threw me out of the store. While she pointed to the "no dogs allowed" sign, I explained that I was only inside to order and planned to sit outside, something I have done on countless previous visits. After being forced to wait outside, my drink was left sitting on the counter for several minutes. The barista never bothered to let me know it was ready, despite the café being slow. To make matters worse, the beverage was poorly made, with coffee spilled all over the saucer. This isn't the first time I've experienced bad service here, but it will definitely be the last.

I haven't been back in quite a while since moving to the Long Beach area about six years ago, so I was actually pretty excited to have it again today. Unfortunately, it was a total disappointment. The noodles were too soft, the meat was mediocre, and all I could really taste was a mouthful of soybean paste flavor. The subtle bonito flavor that I remember and loved was completely gone. Instead, everything just tasted overwhelmingly salty. I've heard from friends recently that Tsujita may have changed their recipe, and after today, I have to agree. It's not the same. Something has definitely changed, and unfortunately, it's changed into something I barely recognize from the Tsujita I used to love.
