Was in the area with my wife so we stopped in. Daniel was our server. He was great. For appetizers we got the Brussels sprouts and spicy gyoza. The gyoza were good, could have been a bit more spicy. The Brussels on the other hand, with the savory glaze and truffle aioli was insanely good. I'd go back just for that. Great ramen spot in a cute part of Montrose - glad I stopped in! While I love me some ramen, I also love me a katsu curry, so I got the bowl with karage fried chicken. The curry flavor was absolutely delicious, with just the right amount of kick. Sweetly balanced with strong and subtle flavors all at the same time, and the chick was delicately and perfectly fried and tender and juicy. I asked for a little extra side of curry as the portion of rice that it came with was generous, and I needed some more curry to ensure that my sauce/rice ratio remained on point. Flavor, portion and service! Kontentsu got it all! We love coming here, since we don't live around the area we don't get to come enough. Their tonkutsu and miso are both very flavorful broths. My husband likes to order a side of curry and add it to his ramen to make it a curry ramen. Not a lot of spots have this option, so it's definitely a plus! They also have great sake and beer deals, which we can never enjoy our ramen without! Next time we will be back for their sushi, they have so many options. read more

We passed by this place on the way home to the Vat Area from AZ. We ordered the regula Kontentsu and one with black garlic soup. The pork was cooked greatly -inside tender and outside crisp. Very friendly waiter. Usually Japanese restaurant comes with free complimentary hot tea but they don't. The waiter didn't tell us upfront that it costs $3.5 per person. What can I say? Kontentsu slaps. Everything I've ever ordered has been *so* good, the prices won't break the bank, all the servers are sweet, there's parking, the food comes super fast. Everything here is good! From the crispy brussel sprouts to the soul warming ramen! We have yet to try something at kontentsu that we don't love. They have some outdoor seating for covid friendly dining and their takeout is also great. For my vegetarian friends; the veggie curry is amazing and the Kim chi ramen is so incredibly full of flavor. If you're totally vegan they have a tasty veggie broth and spinach noodles. For my meat eating friends the tonkatsu pork is out of this world. This place is comfortable location with a designated parking lot. Brussel sprouts are a must, but the ramens are very salty. I had to pour a glass of water before being able to eat it. I ordered the Miso ramen and my friends ordered other ramen, and they were all equally salty. Make sure you ask for a glass of hot water if they say their broths are already pre-made. read more

I am so, SO happy to find a good ramen restaurant without having to go downtown. The Tonkotsu Black here is INCREDIBLE - great broth, good noodles, very generous toppings - the slices of chashu were the biggest I've ever gotten anywhere, and they're fall-apart soft but charred on the edges. The chashu tacos were also amazing. The Crunch Albacore roll was not quite as good as a specialized sushi restaurant, but still pretty tasty and good quality. I came her on a cool day with the intent to get some ramen but saw a few things on the menu and went a little crazy: Spicy Gyoza -- this is absolutely delicious, mainly due due to the sauce it is served with. I made each piece I had was drenched in the sauce and each bite was incredible. Spicy Tuna Crisp -- These were some of the crispiest i've had, and the kick on them was just perfect. Spicy Tonkotsu -- As you can tell, I like spicy and this dish was a great main course to what I had leading up to it. The pork I got with it was cooked well and had a little crisp around the edges, loved it. The broth was especially noteworthy because it brought the heat without dominating the dish. The flavors all came together nicely and I was very happy with the expirence. I'll be coming back here and I think all items above are must haves. I've eaten at Modan Ramen in South Pasadena many times and really like it. A disclaimer: I think soup is a dish that does not translate well to take out (along with tacos). I think this was the case with my one trip to Kontentsu. They packaged up the elements separately and I put them together at home. It was good, just not as good as I KNOW it would be if I was eating in the restaurant. I'll be back when inside dining returns.
