This is probably the worst Thai restaurant we have dined in the past couple years. It was not able to compare to any Thai restaurants we visited in NY area (including suburbs too). Coming from NY where there are so many great Thai restaurants from home style cooking to fine dining, I did not expect this huge let down an hour away from we were. There were just too many red flags raised. While I appreciate the big menu the restaurant has, sadly quantity does not equal quality. We had a Tom Yum soup as the appetizer. This was our first disappointment - we asked for a high spicy level, instead of infusing the soup base with extra Thai green chili, a layer of dry red chili flakes were dumped into the soup. I was really shocked as I have not seen this kind of presentation anywhere from other Thai restaurants. Hello, dry red chili flakes which you normally see in a pizzeria, does it even belong to a Thai restaurant? I could not take a sip without being chocked. It was inedible. Our entrée did not make up for the disappointment. My Tom Yum noodle soup was more like a sweet soup with little heat instead of the signature spicy and sour. It was lacking of salt too. The rice noodles smelled like they were molded and were overcooked. The worst thing from my bowl was the shredded lettuce. Are you kidding me? Of all the leafy greens, literally the most non-Asian vegetable you can think of was used. The lettuce was brownish and was absolutely disgusting after being soaked in the hot soup. Perhaps it was my fault to ask for tofu as my protein. The tofu cubes were completely tasteless. My husband had chicken curry and again it was dumped with dry chili flakes. The curry was overall watered down. Nothing stood out except for the sugar level. In addition, the kitchen does not have proper ventilation and we both smelled like fried spring rolls afterwards. And the list goes on and on... If you are craving for some authentic Thai food, this is definitely not the place for you. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time today, and it was one of the greatest discoveries of new haven!! The servers are all so kind and the menu is customizable to almost everyone's dietary restrictions. It was absolutely delicious, and the service even better! I'm a vegetarian myself and I was able to order dishes I couldn't at other Thai restaurants because vegetarian versions of these dishes are not available. I've only had delivery from here but it has been consistently good. It's cheaper than other local Thai options without sacrificing quality. They also have a broader menu, including a more extensive appetizer selection with dim sum. You can really get an excellent variety of food at a great price. read more

I've been a regular, picking up my lunches (along with coworkers) since they opened. The food is always great and a good value especially for lunch. Good people that I am happy to keep giving my business to. Love the various curry! If I could change anything it would be that if you are picking up a lunch special for takeout that you don't get soup with it, the special only seems to include soup if you are eating in. We were happy to find the same wonderful food and great and friendly service since our last visit to New Haven several months back! This place is a gem and it is well hidden. I envy those who live nearby and can eat there regularly. Both of us had the red curry and this time we asked for it to be 'mildly spicy.' It was just perfect. The sauce was tasty and spicy and the vegetables were cooked perfectly, not too cooked and not raw. The Chicken on both dishes was so under cooked, the only destination was the garbage. I stopped by to tell them, and I received a lame, "Sorry." On our first visit, I was hoping for a place that wasn't cash only like one other Thai place just a few blocks away with food to match. Unfortunately, we had a lengthy (over an hour) wait as there was a very large group in, though the restaurant was still not full otherwise. To be fair, the food was decent, but nothing that really left an impression. My girlfriend and I dropped in the day they opened and are very glad we did. We were lucky to get to chat with the owner and got very attentive service. Koon Brings back memories of some of the best Thai food we've tasted nation wide. The flavors are authentic and spice levels are considerate of the local palate. Each preparation is uniquely delicious. Portions are reasonably sized if not overly generous. We had the papaya salad, yellow and red curry and the coconut milk and Tom yum soup. This place was pretty good, very inexpensive, and BYOB! Went for a date and it was a nice quiet place to sit and talk considering we hung out and had wine and food for two unnoticeable hours. This place is the best Thai food I have had in New Haven! Their flavors are great and they really nail Northern Thai cuisine, which in my opinion is the best. They have Khoya Soi which I had in Thailand and can rarely find here in the US! We just moved from SF and finding good Asian food has been hard but this place is our new go-to spot! Absolute favorite: thai ice tea with boba, super cheap, about $3. However, they are very likely to have run out before closing time. Really great thai food! We have tried a few different places in and around the New Haven area and feel that Koon Thai is the best! The appetizers are great and the pad see ew is really excellent. This was my first time coming to this restaurant. It is a small but great spot. I came with a party of 5. I ordered the spicy eggplant with chicken. It was amazing! I highly recommend the spring rolls and yellow curry as well. My mother had the yellow curry which I tried and the spring rolls are some of the best I have ever had. Crab rangoon was also delicious. Good service and atmosphere but cheap rice. I'm originally from Asia and have been using rice as my main dish for many years. I'm very familiar with the rice selection. The steamed rice I had today was neither Thai jasmine rice or any other kind of good rice from Asia or South America. It's cheap, crappy and no flavor. I already threw it away and cooked the new rice by myself. Hope the owner will pay more attention to the rice quality in the future. read more

This is my first review ever on Yelp, and I couldn't help writing this because of the overall unpleasant experience I had at the place. To be fair, I would say that the food was okay- just something you can expect from any Thai restaurant. However, the server was extremely rude and incapable. He was unable to explain the dishes on the menu and almost babbled. He did not bother to write down the order, but instantly forgot one of the orders. After all, our order was placed when there was no one in the restaurant, but one of the dishes came out after three separate groups of people got their take out orders and left. It was during lunch hours, and he seemed to be the only server (or maybe owner) of the restaurant. It was clearly the worst dining experience I've ever had in New Haven. read more
