I went with my niece. She loves bagels and I kept telling her about the history behind the establishment and it still making bagels from the original yeast dough ( don't know the correct term). This place was featured on the NYC channel on places under 9.99. Unfortunately, we got the original store after the renovation ! I wanted to see the old stuff. Anyway, the place is modern adorned with old pictures of the place. Good variety of bagels and spreads. You can request sandwiches using bagels. It's good and an interesting piece of NYC iconic places...like where can you get a bagel made from the original batch ?! A little over priced but it's in Manhattan, and nowadays nothing is cheap. Also, there is a glass wall so you can see the making of the bagels. This is a must go for tourists and as NYers, we have to experience it at least once. Its worth it. read more

Kossar's is known for its bialys since forever, so don't tell me you ordered a bagel and it was subpar! I got a delivery of a dozen (onion...the only kind!) bialys and they were great! I also ordered scallion cream cheese, whitefish salad and an apple turnover. All were excellent. Delivery was super quick. (They send their own person.) Packing was neat and well done. The toasted gluten free bagel was among the best gluten free bagels I've had, though the whitefish wasn't as meaty or smoky as Zucker's. All in all, a worthwhile stop. read more

Ordered an egg cheese on a toasted everything bagel and a sausage egg cheese on a toasted plain bagel. We also for the protein strawberry smoothie. The smoothie was ok, you could kind of still taste the protein powder. The bagels were great! I would come back to try other bagel sandwiches. Well known for being on the LES and now also Chelsea....Been here to pick up lunch a couple of times - weekends and week days. Go early to avoid wait times. Small shop and they are pretty quick to get orders complete. Plenty of bagels to select from. They have all day breakfast menu as well along. Huge pastries along with babka and challah as well. Had the Clinton Street sandwich (turkey, avocado, double smoked bacon, etc) on toasted plain and on everything bagels. Bacon & Egg on bagel as well - though asked for no queso but it still came with it. Food was good though. Beverages are also available for purchase. Kossar's Bagels never disappoints! The bagels are incredibly fresh--crispy on the outside, perfectly chewy on the inside, and just the right amount of dense. You can really taste the quality in every bite. The staff is also fantastic--super friendly, fast, and totally on top of things. I have been eating Kossar's bialys for the last 45 years of my life - always in the original shop on the Lower East Side. I was walking past the midtown branch at 10 am and couldn't resist. What a disappointment! First, the display case with all of the fresh cream cheese mixes and salads looked like yesterday's leftovers. I got a bialy, lightly toasted with butter, and an everything bagel with cream cheese. For a bodega, they were okay. For any serious bagel shop, like Kossar's, Tal's Absolute, they were seriously disappointing. No tang to the bialy. It tasted like a small bagel, not a bialy. The bagel had no flavor and it wasn't completely cooked on the inside. The service was quite good and so was the coffee, so two stars for that. read more

Good bagels but awful service. It's the option nearby for fresh bagels, but when lever I go I'm reminded why I usually don't: Order your bagel. Repeat the order 4 times to various people who demand you repeat it. Get it usually wrong (not toasted or not scooped for example), and then repeat your coffee order and they'll wait a while, be annoyed while making it, and also get it wrong (no milk for example). By then your bagel is cold. Now I'm home heating my coffee in the microwave and retoasting the bagel they couldn't be bothered to make at the same time because somehow my expecting a warm breakfast with a warm drink as offensive. Also now I gotta find some sugar. Management might consider asking their team to learn to organize and drop the attitudes, especially when demanding all customer repeat orders which they *still* manage to get wrong. read more

Service was quick. Easy for a pick up and go. They have 3 small tables but not a conducive space for sitting and staying to work, meet, etc. My least favorite bagel in NYC so far. It was chewy, even toasted. Just seemed like your everyday bagel. Lox spread was okay. I've had other lox spread that had larger pieces of lox in it. This was pink in color with small chunks which made me wonder if it was dyed? Maybe it wasn't. Maybe they just mix the lox in it breaking it down. I prefer larger chunks. Nonetheless I would not recommend their bagels when there are so many other great options in the city. 3 stars for cleanliness, options and quick service. read more

Just voted nearby and tried the pastrami and egg wrap. It was good! Quality pastrami! I always love the combination with egg and Swiss. I wish they would sear the tortilla a bit. Add some hot sauce and you have a really good breakfast wrap all day! I'll be back to try more. read more

Very cool spot for bagels and bialys. The fact that it has been around for such a long time is awesome. Definitely some history there that makes it a special NY spot. You can't just find bialys anywhere. & They have not only the traditional onion, but also have a garlic bialy. You can see them making the bagels too. Rude! We were visiting NY with 2 young children and wanted some breakfast before walking on the High Line. There are 2 small tables inside with 4 chairs. When we went to sit down we're were told we couldn't sit there because they were cleaning the windows. We asked if we could take the chairs outside (we would bring back in) the woman rudely said no you can't. I had scallion bacon cream cheese which was good but my bagel seemed like it might have been yesterday's. Options in the area are limited but if you can avoid this place I would. Came here because I was craving a bagel and decided to get the pumpernickel everything with scallion cream cheese. The shop was really cute and service was fast. I liked the bagel but wish the cream cheese was spread more evenly throughout. The texture of the cream cheese was not my favorite but I'm not sure why or how to describe it (almost tooo creamy and soft). I did take it back to my apartment so it wasn't as toasty but overall would recommend trying! Great price and maybe I would try a sandwich next time. My long time New Yorker friend recommended this place as the best bagels in the city. But since I had to leave town, I bought a pastrami and egg and a bacon and egg bagel to go. Boxed it up and brought it home to eat slowly over the next couple days, toasted (and half of one would get me full). Could not disagree. The pastrami didn't toast as well, but I can imagine how good it would be fresh. This is an update to my review last year as this Kossar's location has surely changed in recent days. Firstly, the bagels themselves as of today are different from just a month ago. It's as if the flavor was sucked out of them so I'm not sure what happened there. The other piece is the ambiance and service. The place looks and feels no longer like a cozy neighborhood eatery but more like a sweatshop filled with disorder. They seem to have gotten rid of Maria as the store manager which definitely has contributed to this fallout. It seems like she was the only thing keeping the store running efficiently. I can't imagine this store will continue to stay in business long-term how it's trending. read more

I had been excited to visit this place and was not let down. Having never tried a bialys, the staff guy recommended both the onion and garlic. I opted for the former with butter and toasted. My wife had plain bagel with FRESH strawberry cream cheese. That cream cheese was SO fresh and tasty. The Bialy did not disappoint at all. kossars on 72nd street has a variety of bagels and a great variety of spreads. the bagels are tasty and fresh and services is good- but place is usually crowded and noisy. they need a bigger space. but having said that I cant fault the bagels the spreads or the service. This might have been the best bagel ever. If not pretty damn close. I wanted to try the bially but couldn't resist the everything g bagel with the famous Loz spread. The bagel was crusty in the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The over the top everything seasoning was on point and the generous schmear of lox spread was rich savory and creamy.
