1. The tteokbokki was spicy and chewy and PERFECT!!! I've never gotten an egg in mine before but it was great and a superb addition 2. The chicken started off good but it was a little too greasy and a little too much for two people. I'd maybe come here with a bigger group of people and get the same things. I dined in and bought take out at KoStop a few times and I am impressed every time. I have had their 3 flavors chicken a few times to accommodate different wants in the family. Kids like the original and parents like the garlic and spicy flavors. Most recently we have tried their spicy chicken burger and the Philly cheese and they were both good. Came to this place on a whim and the owner is super nice! Got a rice bowl with sweet and spicy chicken, which was really good and nicely coated in sauce, and a philly cheesesteak sandwich. I ordered the medium order of chicken (10 pieces) along with 2 sides. The pickled radish was a sweet and refreshing contrast. This is a lot of meat. With more substantial sides, this could feed two very hungry folks or a small family. I grabbed Togo and the chicken was still crispy and crunchy after 30 minutes. It would of course be best dine in. Located on the Durant side of Sather Lane in Berkeley, you can smell it from campus. I ordered to-go at the kiosk to the right as you walk in (order for dine-in at the counter) and waited approximately 20 minutes for my food. BUT, it was totally worth the wait. Also they were still hiring people for cooking/serving so they were possibly not at full strength. The chicken (I got it with sweet/spicy sauce) is AMAZING. The regular size was plenty for two, even three meals, and was super delicious. The $1 side of fries was disproportionately small to the amount of chicken, so maybe get 2 if you're sharing. The food was exactly what I wanted and super flavorful. LOTS of garlic, which was appreciated. Only caveat: There were definitely a lot of peanuts on my order of chicken. I am not allergic to peanuts, but I was surprised that nowhere in the process was I told that there would be peanuts on it. There was no option to say "no peanuts" on the kiosk that I ordered from. Great addition to Berkeley! We used to go to Oakland for KFC, and KoStop can definitely satisfy a fried chicken craving! It is located next to Yogurt Park, where Famous Bar used to be. I liked that the interior has different seating options, ranging from small tables, to window seats, to communal tables. I imagine it might be tough to get seats if you are coming with a larger group of friends. The restaurant is "self-serve," which means that you go up to the kiosk to order and you pick up your food. I like that it makes the restaurant run more smoothly, but the downside is that the tables do not seem to be clean after each guest. The food itself was good and the chicken was fried so that the outside was crispy while the meat itself was still juicy. We ordered a combo for three people and we still had left overs. I liked that I was able to sample the different flavors on the combo, and I really liked the spicy sauce and the plain one. Overall, pretty solid addition to our food options near campus! read more

My cousin and I went here and were disappointed. the chicken tasted like it had been Washed in soap and water and the fountain drink tastes weird like u can tell the ice is from unfiltered tap water. The Chicken Rice Bowel on the menu didn't clarify it was boneless chicken. The chicken is in small pieces covered in honey. The one small scoop of white rice taste like plastic. I live right by Kostop and used to love getting their rice cakes or their chicken rice plat. Their normal fried chicken is a bit too heavy so having the rice to cut it really helps. Nothing compared to Bonchon but also super yummy in its own way. Lately it seems that the staff is overworked and their food is constantly sold out, which makes it a much less ideal experience than when it opened almost a year ago. I've had kimchi fried rice from many places in my lifetime of 2 decades and this place has the honor of taking dead last. For $15 I received a wet lump of fried rice that would fit comfortably in the sad packs of pretzels you get flying Southwest. Decorating the top is another lump that I believe to be a sunny side up egg, without the sun. The yolk was nowhere to be found. In the corner snugly situated was this mysterious black lump. Was this a lump of coal Santa dropped off early to tell me I was a bad child this year? Upon closer inspection, this strange malignant looking mass was seaweed. Never in my life have I seen seaweed in such a grotesque state. Disappointment would be the non-expletive ridden description to my current mood after seeing this abomination. My day is ruined and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this restaurant like seeing your boss at Costco. Thank you for your time and I hope my sacrifice is not futile. read more
