After posting my review here and on FB my partner and I were harassed (and are being harassed still 4 days later) by the owner of this restaurant. At this point it's less about the food and more about not supporting a business owner who cannot take criticism and who lashes out with a furious temper at those who do not agree with her. I originally made my review because I was sick of constantly seeing them say they can make things work when my experience there was far from it- I know now I probably just had a bad server and they were out of everything that day and I should have just unfollowed their garbage FB page that was bothering me daily anyway. Please stop calling me a racist. Racist is saying you're just as dark as an Indian person just because you lived there, which the owner said to my partner in one of her random harassing messages and is screen captured in a photo below along with all of her other harassing messages. LEAVE US ALONE. Please! I have asked her numerous times to stop messaging us. I should have read the other reviews because now she has people threatening me with guns. Original review: Forewarning: I know this is not a vegan restaurant and doesn't advertise that it is- BUT they do say they have options to accommodate on Facebook. If you're vegan do not waste your time going here. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and a big menu but they try to be a traditional restaurant and do not have many vegan options. At the end I was stuck with two options and what I ordered wasn't even appetizing (yakiudon). A lot of people seem to think that this is a full restaurant. This is a food truck. The dining area is a beer garden. So they are only permitted by the county to serve food in takeaway containers. Koya Kitchen is a really high-end food truck as far as I'm concerned. I'm a local and a regular and I love the place. It has a great local vibe, and a lot of the people who live there, eat there. That's a testament to a great place if the locals frequent it. The places the locals ignore are the ones you need to watch out for. We're a picky bunch. It rates, as far as we are concerned as a family, as one of the better casual dining experiences on the mountain. The food is fresh, and the flavours are great. The owner mixes it up with specials spanning the pan-Asian menu. She'll delve into Indian curries and Thai flavours with a creative panache. She cares about her business and is eager to accommodate individual needs. It is not a vegan restaurant, and if you are vegan you can be very specific with your needs, and she will work with you using what she has. All in all, Koya is a great addition to our community. And she has been consistent with her quality and her products. She turned a little shack into a cool, neat little dining area, with a respectable array of drinks and beer offerings. First time visiting mt. Hood and stopped by this place because it looked super cute outside! Outdoor seating is really cute and separated way more than 6 feet so felt super safe. The food was so good the first time we went back later for dinner. We tried to avocado fried rice, salmon roll, soba noodles and tuna poke all were fantastic and had lots of flavor. You can see this place right from the hwy. Plenty of space between tables, I felt safe eating here. It is essentially a food truck where you order at the window, get a buzzer when your food is ready. This is more of an Asian fusion place, we got the avacado rice, the presentation was beautiful but we didn't care for the flavor. The udon noodle dish was good, lots of toppings and heavy on the sauce. It seemed like a mexican asian flavor to me. Such a great find! Loved the atmosphere, music and how dog friendly it was. The food was to die for. My boyfriend ordered the spicy tuna roll and the shrimp tempura roll and I got the spicy tuna poke bowl with extra tuna and cucumber. It was soooooo good that we decided to order more food to go. This wasn't it. It wasn't awful but it wasn't any better than Fred Meyer. Something else that bothered me is that they use paper plates and just throw them away. If you're gonna have an indoor area and you're trying to be a restaurant not a food cart then you should get some real plates. I think it's wasteful. Not hard to wash a few plates and silverware. Tried Koya for the first time this evening. What a wonderful place! We had ramen with pork, shiitake, carrots, scallions and boiled egg, and udon soup with shrimp tempura -- both were deLICious! They had a terrific selection of beer and cocktails and sake. Outdoor seating is casual including picnic tables and hammocks and an open A-frame -- really cool with Japanese lanterns... inside is comfy and unique with lots of plants hung creatively throughout. I love Koya and really appreciate all they have done to help us all stay well fed as well as safe during the pandemic. Huge family favorite is the chicken karage. The breading is not too much and the amazing/slightly tangy dipping sauce pairs perfectly. Pork yaki soba is also super tasty. We've driven by this place many times on our way up to the mountains and have always wanted to try it...we went for the first time and it was a major disappointment. The food was not authentic Japanese and was not good - it also included a hair in two of our dishes. The server was nice enough to refund us for the two dishes which we appreciated, however, we were a party of 5 and they would not accommodate us inside when all they had was a party of 2 sitting inside. This party was sitting at a large table that could have accommodated us when they could have sat them at a two top that was empty. Needless to say we will not be going back. read more

My family had dinner at this cute restaurant twice during our stay at a timeshare nearby. The food here is delicious with really big portions. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food that we got. During my first visit, I had the kimchi fried rice and I had leftover for breakfast the next day. The second time I had the ramen and it was filled to the brim with plenty of noodle, meat, and veggies. Where I live, ramen restaurants usually give you bare bone amount of food and then charge additional you for all the extra stuff so I was happy that they were not stingy with what they gave you. I was so excited to try this place as it has so many good reviews. I should have left after the first red flag we saw. The customer before us was complaining because his credit card was charged with someone else's order because he started a tab and I think they didn't give him his card back. But we were driving for 3 hours and my kids were hungry. The bill was pretty hefty but if the food was good it would be worth it. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I had the fried rice and the rice was hard to the point it was inedible because it was like chewing on a random rock in the middle of a bite of rice. The ginger was not good and the karrage chicken sauce was just shoyu. I went back to tell them about just the rice and the server just said "I'll check on the rice to make sure we don't do that again". Wow! I basically bought inedible food and they were like oh well.
