Not sure what is going on with Kue's. I noticed for a while that they've been closed. Stopped by and saw a note posted saying they'll be making some renovations, so only time will tell. We usually enjoy stopping by for the laid back vibe in the bar area and enjoy their happy hour drinks, small bites and friendly customer service from the bar staff. 4 stars Kue's has been open a little over 1 year ago and, today, my family and I got a chance to try this restaurant. I remember when it was the Diner on Main and, since then, the interior has been remodeled. The interior is comfortable, clean, and the lighting makes the place quite intimate. As for the food, I thought it was very well-seasoned without being too salty. These were the dishes we got: Chicken Salad ($28): A cold chicken salad with fried taro strips, pickled peppers, shredded carrots, cilantro, and sweet pickled onions. I thought this would be very bland, but it turned out to be my favorite dish because of how refreshing it is. The chicken is boiled like hainan chicken and seasoned with a light, tangy sauce. Everything went well together. 4.5/5 stars Orange Chicken ($18): This is a pretty typical orange chicken. I don't think it wow'd me, but I liked that it wasn't overly breaded. 4/5 stars Black Pepper Filet Mignon with Mushrooms ($25): I'm not a huge mushroom person, but I really liked the mushrooms here. It was a combo of oyster mushrooms and button mushrooms with cubed filet mignon. The beef was also really tender, almost melt-in-your-mouth. 4/5 stars Shrimp in XO sauce ($25): This dish was slightly spicier than I expected, but it was also pretty good. The size of the shrimp was huge and the vegetables were on point. It had snap peas, bell peppers, and mountain potato (aka Japanese mountain yam). 4/5 stars The service was very attentive and the owner of the restaurant was very kind. The owner helped us mix the chicken salad at the beginning of our meal and helped my mom cut her birthday cake at the end of the meal. 5/5 stars for service. KUE'S only opens for dinner during the weekdays but whole day on the weekend. We were grateful that they opened on the New Year's Day that fell on a Thursday this year. I've tried other signature dishes before. This time, I wanna give it a try to something new and it turned out all GREAT -- Chicken salad and the Squab are the bombs! Must order. The manager is always hospitable and knowledgeable to give recommendations. Service is attentive and friendly. I will definitely come back, maybe for the private room ($800 for the small one and $1,600 for the large room) and order some cocktails to go with their "Cha Siu" -- another signature dish that you don't wanna miss! read more

They had a parking lot so that was great! We were a few minutes early since they opened at 12 on Sunday but they let us in early haha. The waitress was so kind and sweet. They have a patio, but let us dine inside with our dog. We had him in a stroller and laid a blanket out on the booth seating :) our dog is pretty chill so that helped too. The waitress even got our dog some water. The shrimp was so good, huge, and crispy! Eggplant was delicious and flavorful. Scallop fries rice was good - I ate it with the eggplant sauce. The mala catfish was absolutely delicious and spicy! It had noodles in it too. Had a very pleasant experience here and would recommend to anyone. The food is more pricey but 100% worth it and so delicious. And they had a cocktail menu too. So you can tell this place is more fancy restaurant. I've recently started an annual tradition of having a Friendsgiving and gift exchange party, and I wanted to do it at a place that was friendly for groups. I saw that Kue's had large tables and private rooms, and decided to get a reservation here. I was hoping to get the private room, but instead we got a table in the regular dining area. We made a reservation for 7:30 PM, but I think the staff overbooked and we couldn't even sit at our table until 8:00 PM. We had a table of 13, fortunately some people arrived late so it was ok that we started late. The staff were nice enough, but I wish we did not have to wait for seating. I asked my friend, who was a regular here, to order the food. She really enjoys Cantonese food. We had a wide variety of dishes. My favorite was the scallion chicken. The chicken skin was included with the chicken meat itself. The chicken was juicy and went well with the scallions and vegetables. The cha siu was also quite juicy, using fatty pork belly, but definitely different from traditional Cantonese cha siu. The sweet and sour pork was ok, I've had better in San Gabriel Valley. Came here for the first time in July with friends. Finding that most of the food was delicious, my husband and I brought his laments here to try it out. Definitely a place to try. The service the first time seemed better than the second time,but I assume because it was more busier the second time we dined in. Almost everything we ate was delicious. The only thing I'd stay away from is the Crispy Pork Belly. It was super dry and I found it odd that the dipping sauce was condensed milk. Finally had a chance to make it in to check out Kues. Met some friends for happy hour and we really enjoyed the food. The truffle fries were amazing! A perfect crunch with great flavor. I'm not generally a fries person but these were that good! Everything was delicious! We really enjoyed the flavors on the chicken wings and the cool freshness of the cucumbers. The accompanying sauces with everything were good too. Service was on point. Our server checked on us frequently and was friendly. The ambiance was wow! Actually the decor is so fancy in a non Chinese restaurant sense that I was worried about the food. Food: The house chicken salad was amazing. One of the best dishes I've had in recent memory. It was my 2nd time dining in yesterday. Came here last time with my BF and the food was pretty good and decided to take my family here yesterday for Father's Day. Making reservations was easy. Just called it in and reserved it for a specific time. However, the 2nd time I got to try more different dishes as we had more people. But the food was lacking. It was either too salty or oily. The only best dish that we enjoyed was the Chicken salad. It had shredded chicken carrots, red onions, garlic, cilantro, tomato, peanuts and thinly shredded fried taro strips. It was mixed in this sesame vinaigrette dressing that made it very good. Very good appetizer. Salty Fish Eggplant clay pot was full of oil and had no taste. Choy Sum veggie dish was ok. It was shiny with oil with lots of garlic. The garlic part is fine because I love garlic but when you bit into the vegetable, it was tough. Not the crunch when you bite it so it was disappointing. Beef Chow Fun did not taste as good as the first time. It had the "wok hey" from cooking but it lacked the taste. Steamed whole fish in the bed of Garlic was good. But can taste the fishiness. It was topped with lots of ginger scallion sauce on top. Crispy pork belly was ok. It came with a side of condensed milk for dipping which I thought was interesting but the taste together was good. The only complaint was the pieces were cut too big. We had to cut it up so everyone can try a piece. Fried Tofu and garlic wings were a hit for the little kids. Would totally recommend that! Golden Yolk prawns were huge! It was good but too much salty egg yolk sauce. It became salty. Overall, the service was ok. We had to ask for our water to be refilled and catch their attention. Not sure if it was because it was holiday and not enough staff but for the price of the dishes and restaurant the service should be on top. I feel like you can get these dishes at other Chinese restaurants for a lot cheaper but I can see they try to make the dishes a little more upscale here because of the price. My friend and I were walking down Main Street in Alhambra and stumbled upon this new restaurant and bar. Drinks: 5/5 We came here for just for their drinks and did not get any food. We got their dragon mule and the cove. Both drinks were exceptionally strong but tasty. For the cove, it was a rum based drink and tasted really good but had pretty high alcohol content. We came to Kue's last weekend to finally try the restaurant since they open in November. We made reservation for a big party. Plenty of parking in the lot and it was no problem. When we walked in, we felt the casual ambience with a bar, music and the TV playing sports. The menu has a good variety of appetizers food for HH. For dinner, they also have some unique dishes. We tried the roasted Brussels sprouts, hand shredded chicken salad- this is very delicious, the barbecue pork, friend tofu, fried eggplant, sauté filet mignon with mushroom, kung pao shrimp and the pan fried carport truffle. I personally had a draft beer (Sapporo) as it's my go-to, but my party ordered their Truffle Fries, Fried Tofu, Garlic Brussel Sprouts, and Fried Calamari. Between these options, I have to admit the BEST appetizers were in fact: Garlic Brussel Sprouts - garlic was just right, all roasted to perfection. This was too salty, though. Fried Calmari - Lightly fried, barely a hint of grease, and a good portion for the price. Tasty, too, with their sauce, though the sauce wasn't as remarkable. Truffle Fries - a bit limp, not too crunchy and rather disappointed in this one. The truffle was a nice to dip, but I didn't enjoy this one too much either. Fried Tofu - a tad expensive, it better be worth it... and wow it was worth it! The tofu was masterfully prepared, with a light layer of breading and perfectly cooked tofu. How perfect? Hubby & I have been to Kues a few times since it opened and we've enjoyed each time. We love that they have double happy hour 4-6pm & late night 9pm-12am. They have a wide range of dishes - appetizers/small bites to share, and some fancier Cantonese and Asian fusion seafood dishes. They have cocktails, beer & wine and sake. I would probably skip the calamari in the future, though they're generously sized pieces of calamari, I'm just not a big fan of the batter style they use (I prefer the crispy panko breadcrumbs style)... Our go-to's are their Chicken Wings and Hot & Sour Soup for 2 (good enough to share with 3-4 people). I also like their cucumber salad, but do find the portion a bit small. Hubby loves their Eggplant Salted Fish in Claypot. My mom likes their Beef Chow Fun since it's a generous portion and the beef was good quality. Their Tiger Shrimp Prawns in XO sauce was also good. Rice can be requested on the side. Truffle Fries were good/standard & comes with an aioli dipping sauce. Service is fairly quick. They're always on top of refilling our waters. Restrooms are clean. The interior is nice - they kept most of the structure from the old Diner, but the ambiance is more Chinese now & they have a couple of big TVs by the bar. They have their own parking lot with plenty of spaces, or worse case there is street parking or other lots available around DT Alhambra. This is a rare Chinese restaurant in the SGV with a full bar, not just wine and beer. I would say they did a magnificent job in repurposing the old diner on main space, it looks great. The space is comfortable and not cramped there s ample space between other tables, The food was very good, its more cantonese focused, but they also have other chinese regional specialties and live seafood (which was a surprise)and also they have things like French fries and garlic noodles if you have kids who are picky eaters. They also have 2 great happy hours a day from 4-6 and then a late night one from 9-12 every day! Can't beat that in this economy, and its a pretty good happy hour, they have food specials, cocktail specials and discounts on draft beers. Came to try this new Chinese spot with a friend earlier this month. They ended up having a fantastically priced happy hour. If you've been to the previous business, Diner on Main, it has been completely renovated and looks nothing the same. The bar is really beautifully built and the dim lights make a nice and relaxed atmosphere. The food and drinks itself had its ups and downs. Kue's has a full bar with specialty drinks. My Yuzu Margarita was perfect, but my friend's Sangria was a little too strong for them (I believe it also had vodka in it), so they asked for a Coke as well. We got all of our food from the happy hour menu, including the wings, not pictured. Ended up sending back the wings, the flavor was subpar and they could have been cooked longer. The truffle fries were a little confusing, as the truffle is IN the sauce and not on the fries (my friend and I clarified so you don't have to). My overall favorites were garlic noodles, Brussels sprouts and the calamari took the cake. The service was great, the manager coming up to apologize about the wings and one of the servers who is named Lucy (I think) was so sweet and charismatic. Came for a Father's Day dinner reservation as I couldn't resist trying the spot that replaced Diner on Main. We came in time to try some happy hour and were surprised by very affordable drinks and grabbed the garlic noodles and crispy tofu as well. Noodles were pleasantly not too oily and cooked well. The crispy tofu didn't come with a sauce but it didn't need it, the crust was good! I'd skip the salted fish eggplant claypot as it was too salty and oily but the wok hei on the black bean basil crab and classic green onion lobster was amazing. Seasoned so well and made for great leftovers. I'd also skip the dongpo pork belly, not tender as we were lead to believe. The black pepper filet mignon with mushroom on the other hand? Will be ordering that again. Ginger Chicken was not bad if you like that kind of dish. Choy sum was also OK if you want to add veggies to your meal (you should), but 100 percent getting the baby bok choy again. Funny to have classic Chinese dishes in a trendy restaurant bar while today's pop music is playing. We were pleasantly surprised! Came here on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy! They were able to seat us right away though. Anyway, we ordered the watercress with fish cake soup, wagyu beef with black garlic, and sweet and sour pork. Also had to order two rice with the meal. It took about 15-20 minutes for the dishes to come out, and the dishes were cooked really well. The watercress was fresh and soup was very balanced in flavor. The wagyu beef was velvety, and the sauce for the sweet and sour pork was on point. For the pricing of their dishes, I think their dishes are a little overpriced for Cantonese style, but portions are at least of good size. However, there were a few issues with the service. First, it was weird that they first gave one bowl of rice, and then the next bowl of rice took them like another 10 minutes to bring out. While it's a minor detail, it just feels weird to space out getting rice like that. They could just give us two rice bowls at once. Second, my girlfriend found a piece of metal strand (probably from a Brillo pad) when scooping out the Wagyu beef dish. Honestly , that made me not to want to eat that dish anymore until my girlfriend told the waitress that she found a piece of metal strand in her scoop, and when that happened, the manager came to rectify the situation by offering to replace the plate with a new one. While that was a fine solution to what happened, it still is something that one wouldn't like to see while dining. They did comp the dish though, which they probably felt embarrassed that happened especially for a dish worth $45. Overall, I think the restaurant has really good food, but it was a bit of an up and down experience given what happened. So I would rate it a 3.5/5 experience, but I would come back to try Kue's again, just hopefully wouldn't want to find a metal strand in my plate on the next time. read more

It is also a bar with large TV. we went at 4 pm so we got the $8 calamari which was crispy and well seasoned. It's my favorite. we also ordered crispy pork belly and orange chicken and the serving size was plenty for the price of $25 each. We had leftover orange chicken and fried rice so definitely ordering less next time. The price is on the high side but serving is big so maybe order less. The sodas are refillable . We picked this restaurant for our dinner this week. We've been here before but have not written a review. I ordered Sweet and Sour Pork with Jasmine white rice and other family members ordered Mongolian Beef and Beef Chow Fun. Food came fast. Each plate is large and hot. All are delicious especially the Mongolian Beef. I wished the Sweet and Sour Pork put more pineapple. Forgot to take photos of food again because we are so hungry. Our dessert Crème Brûlée was also good. It's not too sweet. I like the burn sugar on the top. Can't finish our food had to take home. Our seating is a booth next to a window with a view of Main Street in Alhambra. It's a nice view. Our waitress is very polite, friendly, and attentive. The restaurant has its own parking lot. This was not the case here. We ordered 2 and both were rancid. 1 did still have sweet coconut water, so it was bearable and I didn't raise a stink. The other coconut was spoiled AND rancid. The broth was sour and no good. Also, they say each soup is good for 1 person, that is definitely not the case, unless you want to make your main meal a soup. -Almond Watercress Soup: It was ok, but tastes a bit different than what you'd normally get at other places. -Aromatic Ginger Chicken: This was ok, I'd skip it. -Crispy Tofu: DELICIOUS. -Truffle Cauliflower: Not overcooked. Didn't really taste the truffle but a solid veggie dish. -Chow Fun: I prefer the chicken to the beef, but a stellar order from the HH menu. -Beef Fried Rice: This was ok, I'd rather order the chow fun. -Sizzling Seafood on Crispy Rice: I feel like this should be in the soup section. My friend and I liked it but the older generation did not. -Spare Rib Clay Pot Rice: SKIP! The supposed star of the show was hard and could chip a tooth. The spare ribs weren't cooked long enough to come right off the bone. The meat stuck to the bone and it was very hard to chew off. -Sauteed Turbot Fish Fillet: This is MP, but it's one of the better dishes of the night. My mom thought the veggies were old but I liked having sauteed fish and veggies with a crunchy bone. The bone was a bit on the salty side though. I cant comment too much on the food because we came here for Happy Hour. You can't beat $5 beers and the appetizers we got were great. The garlic edamame and their fried squid tasted good. Would definitely come back again during Happy Hour since its such a good deal! Brownie points for having their own parking lot. read more

Yum! Came here after seeing all the promo on social media, and it did not disappoint. Took my very old-school, classic Chinese parents with me as well, and they were very pleased with the food and service. The servers were very attentive to our table, and made sure to check up on us throughout the dinner. The restaurant is nicely decorated and had a fancy-ish feel to the place.
