One of my favorite sushi restaurants. I'm from Corona but it's worth the drive. Salmon Carpaccio is delicious and you can't go wrong with a crunch roll. All the food is fresh and you're in and out quickly and content. This place gets really busy in the evenings and definitely over the weekends. Go here for lunch and dodge the traffic. Only down side is they don't offer all you and can eat sushi but I completely understand why.. it's sooo good people would eat them out of house and home. MUST TRY! read more

Started off good with menus, drink Order and appetizer. Received our drinks and then placed our order and waited. Kids got their food and asked for napkins and serving ware. Even the California rolls we got for our kids (which they love) were gross. My Family and I visit Kuma almost weekly. We always sit at the sushi bar and order off of the special menu which is the hand written fresh seasonal selection of seafood. The customer service is always attentive and gracious, the sushi chefs are consistent in delivering fresh cuts of sashimi/sushi. My kids love all of the beginner sushi items but the wife and I splurge on Blue Fin Toro, Aji, Hamachi, Kanpachi, Kinmedai, Uni, Ikura, Monkfish liver, Japanese Scallops, Oysters and so much more. This is probably our favorite Japanese food restaurant nearby. We love their fresh sushi and free edamame. Their bento boxes come with a soup and a salad. I personally love their salmon teriyaki it's so fresh and grilled wonderfully. I also enjoy having their chicken katsu with extra katsu sauce. The katsu is crispy and the chicken flavorful. Their tofu is delicious with their sauces. The rice is always cooked fresh and it's a very clean establishment. The service is very good and they give generous portions of their food. The rolls that I was used to where mediocre at best the Bsc roll was topped with what tasted like bread crumbs and the lobster roll tasted like crayfish. My father who was with me when he asked a question on literally over three occasions was ignored. Fatty Tuna/Toro never disappoints, Salmon sushi is always fresh, and Sashimi salad is on point and the Kirin light is always frosty cold. We visited Kuma because we were out shopping in the Colonies on a Bed, Bath and Beyond/Kohl's/Target run, and were starving for some Japanese food. We went here before, I liked it, but my husband just thought it was okay, but for now, i'm going to rate this place as if it was the first time I'd been here.... So the place was pretty busy, considering the slipping economy that is in the tubes in the IE, but apparently there is a following of the sushi chef- he seemed really nice, recognized some of the customers that came in, they were probably regulars. We ordered ALOT of food. Remember, we were starving! I like the menu that they have combos where you can order 2 or 3 main items and it comes w/ that salad and the creamy miso dressing, miso soup and rice. The dressing to me was on the thin side, but good. We started off w/ the usual, tekka maki, tempura crunch roll- and the edamame that comes free! (Love anything free). These were all really good. I commented that it's nice to have sushi w/ crunchy nori, vs. the kind that have been on the roll so long that they are chewy. Anyways, our order came- daughters was tempura udon- they broil the bowls so hot that the soup is still bubbling on the side of the bowl. Really cool! The tempura is good there, not great. The sata imo was on the undercooked side, but everything else was good. Good selection on the combos, saba miso mackrel, miso salmon, shrimp & vegie tempura, teriyaki, etc. Anyways, so here is the "eeeh" part... You know for me, service, service, service... I say it again... In this economy, a restaurant can't slack off on that part. The service here was just okay. Not really friendly- just sort of efficient when you asked for things. I've had better service. This isn't a Chinese or Korean restaurant afterall, where i'd expect that kind of service! My girlfriend and I came here yesterday. When first entering it wasn't a very warm welcoming. The 2 girls told us to just sit anywhere, the vibe the girls were giving off, was that they didn't want to be there, which didn't make us feel comfortable. After ordering it too 30 min to get all our food, with 3 sushi chefs, one taking pictures of something with his phone, and mind you there were only 3 tables. Now the food... I had heard of this place from a friend and seen reviews on yelp and had high hopes, those hopes where shot down by the first bite off sushi. The Lobster Feast Roll was a basic California roll with stale lobster on top and eel sauce, and that was the most decent one, we also had the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and the Fried Jalapeno roll, the crispy rice also tasted stale, and that deffinetly was not fresh spicy tuna on top. As for the jalapeno roll which was suppose to be spicy fish wrapped in a jalapeno and fried, well there was more cream cheese then anything else in the roll and it wasn't spicy at all. As a person who has grown up in a kitchen, with a strong Italian background, and who has enjoyed Sushi in different parts of the world, I was truly disappointed. I re-visited Kuma to give it another chance. Let me say it was definitely better the second time around. The rolls that we had were great. This time around I tried the BSC Roll. I didn't get a chance to see the board up on the wall because it was hidden from where I was sitting, but the selection on the board seemed really good. I still had a problem with the chicken katsu, but maybe it's just the way they cook it and my preference is different. The service was just as great as before, so I'm glad that that hasn't changed. OMFG if you love salmon, their salmon capriccio is a MUST try. 8 slices of greatness over sOme of their homemade sauce garnished with chopped chives and the kicker here is crispy bits of garlic.
