Chicken Katsu Combo
Cynthia P.

This place is a good place to consider going for some katsu sandwiches! I got the chicken katsu with a combo upgrade (includes two scoops of salad). I got kani and potato. It also comes with choice of tea (black, green, oolong). The katsu is made fresh. I did think the size of the katsu was a bit small, but it was still good. I did try the shrimp katsu before, and I would have to say that I'd prefer the shrimp over chicken. They have other types of sandwiches, such as the fruit sandwiches. But I didn't try since I don't eat much dairy. Service is usually pretty quick and it is clean inside. There is a lot of parking! Overall, I would recommend this place if you're looking to try some yummy sandwiches!

Fruit sando

Came in with kinda low expectations after reading the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised! Kumo was tucked away in a shopping center with lots of other restaurants and outdoor seating with unbrellas. Easy parking. We had the chicken katsu sando + $2.50 for the combo (fries and green tea). The chicken katsu is pretty decent - crispy and I liked the sauce. The fries were good too and especially the aioli it comes with. Green tea tasted homemade and was solid too. Also got the original fruit sando, which was very tasty. They didn't cut corners on the amount of fruit and we still found fruit "deeper" in the sando in the parts that weren't exposed. The grapes and strawberries were my favorite. Whipped cream was light and sweet, but not too sweet. Sweet bread was soft and tasty. Service was good and the staff was helpful but not too pushy, and brought our food out to the table outside when it was ready. Docking 1 star for the price which is a little steep for the amount of food ($11 for fruit sando and $16.50 for chicken katsu sando combo), but overall I'm happy with the taste and it is certainly a unique specialty item!

Great (Japanese) sandwich spot! And very filling too. It was definitely a delicious sandwich. My husband said it was one of the best chicken katsu sandwiches he's ever had, and he's Japanese! (He lived off those prime 7-Eleven sando's! iykyk) The big caveat is that it's expensive. Each sandwich is like $15, after tax and tip. But they're quality sandwiches.

I love Japanese sandwiches! I visited Kumo back in June of 2024. I tried the strawberry, chicken katsu, and egg salad sandwiches. I also got a matcha latte! Their bread was thick and fillings were loaded! They did take a while to make though- about 30 minutes! Looks they have closed down now.

These fruit sandos were amazing, I've never had anything like it! We got both kinds. Sandos were made to order and it's so fresh, light, and sweet but not too sweet! The shop itself is super small & made to just order your food and go. The service was very nice as well, the employees are very friendly. The only thing I didn't like was the green thai tea unfortunately. It tastes more like regular thai tea in my opinion which I weirdly don't really like lol

Kumo is one of those restaurants I always revisit because it hits the spot for a certain craving. And I love the combos- the egg salad is really good (and less salty than it used to be). The shrimp katsu sando is perfect for a lighter flavor that still has solid pieces of shrimp and the tartar sauce and cabbage complement the golden katsu well. Apparently on this day the chicken katsu had sold out before noon - I also recommend it. The menchi katsu sando has pork and beef, so it's actually quite hamburger tasting, with a stronger American or seasoned patty flavor. Not my type since I generally don't like Italian sausage type seasoning flavor, and one half of the katsu was more tough and chewy than the other. Still nicely crispy. Potato salad didn't taste like you'd expect. Kani salad is nice. The green Thai tea is good, my friend who is a barista loved it alot. Since we got takeout, I added a little milk and honey to my unsweetened green tea and the floral around became even more delicious without bitterness. Great tea. Until next time, Kumo! I will be back. If you dine here be prepared for takeout style and outdoor plaza seating.

Delicious, so fresh and so cute!!

Not just cute! They are delicious, fresh and healthy option for me and my kids, we loved it!! The service is so nice, Don't forget to ask for a green Thai tea ;)

Pork sandwich with potato salad

I was really excited to try Kumo but found it to be underwhelming. For the high prices they charge I was disappointed by how small the piece of pork in my sandwich was. The potato salad was good, nothing special. Best part of the sandwich was the bread, which was extremely soft and pillowy. Probably would not return unless the craving really hit me.

I tried 4 different sandwiches! The best one was strawberry creme. The creme was light and sweet and melded perfectly with the sweet strawberries and milk bread. Next was the chicken katsu sandwich! The meat was juicy and the sauce was good. Then was the shrimp katsu sandwich as I have never tried anything like it. Lastly was the pork katsu sandwich was a bit dry for my liking. I also tried the green thai tea as well, which personally I did not enjoy as it had no flavor. Might have been because I got less sweetness. I would come back again for the sweet dessert sandwiches if I am craving!

Pork Katsu (has a sweater cinnamon sauce which is not my fav, but pork is super tender and crispy)

Located in an outdoor strip mall with a lot of food restaurants. This small shop has takeout only but there is a big shared courtyard with ample tables/seats. Each sando is made at time of order so they're super fresh, crispy and delicious. Customer service is excellent. We tried their pork katsu, chicken katsu, and shrimp sando which is our fav!

Veggie Croquette, Egg Sando, Pork Katsu Sando, and Strawberry & Cream Sando

Kumo is a small Japanese sandwich shop tucked into a food hall off the west side of Mira Mesa Blvd. I had a sando craving while visiting San Diego and this definitely hit the spot. We ordered a Veggie Croquette, Egg Sando, Pork Katsu Sando, and Strawberry & Cream Sando The Veggie Croquette was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Egg Sando was all I wanted--perfect bread with marinated golden yolk eggs and kewpie mayo. The Pork Katsu Sando had the pork cutlet with the shop's own katsu sauce and napa cabbage. Their Strawberry & Cream Sando was such a great treat at the end. It was very light, subtly sweet, with very good strawberries throughout. The shop has a counter with menus and drinks available. Outside the shop are common area tables and chairs for the food hall visitors. There was ample parking and a public restroom down the hall on the right side of the shop. You'll just need to request the code for the door. This was a great road trip meal for the drive home. I'll be going back for more next time!

Shop is small, just a quick in and out to go ordering. We were helped immediately and waited about 20 minutes outside. Ordered four sandwiches 2 Egg Sando ($12 each) , 1 Fruit & Cream ($11) , and 1 Strawberry & Cream ($11). Our total came out to $49.57 but with the minimum of 18% tip it was around $60. The Egg Sando and Strawberry & Cream were my favorites. Can be a bit messy to eat but honestly really refreshing, not too sweet or salty. A great place to try and would recommend stopping by if you haven't had anything like this before. Is a bit overpriced in my opinion so probably wouldn't come back.

Cute place for sandos, although a bit expensive at $10+ for each sandwich. I wish there were mix and match combos to choose which savory + sweet sandos + appetizers I'd like to try rather than their pre-set ones. The squid karage was not a favorite of mine and felt like a weird intermediate between calamari and chicken karage, when I would have preferred to have either of those instead. The egg sando was pretty good but not as flavorful as I was hoping. The chicken katsu sando was okay! I would like to come try their sweet sandos another time

Egg salad sandwich was pretty good, flavorful with thick white bread. I would avoid the bland potato salad.

The poke offerings themselves are very strong but the sides are limited compared to other poke shops. Every time I go there is a line out the door and they are very strict about leaving the door closed to keep the AC in. You can order poke bowls with rice or you can order poke by the pound. My wife and I usually order by the pound and then get a side of mac salad and make our own rice. Most recently we ordered two pounds of garlic salmon and a side of mac salad. Prices are definitely in the high side with a pound of poke costing $24.99 to $29.99. Service feels very hectic and rushed. The taste of the poke itself is very good and definitely scratches the itch for Hawaiin style poke. I've been to Maui, Oahu, Kauai multiple times so I've definitely had my fair share of authentic poke. The garlic salmon which was delicious although I noticed they started to add chili flakes which felt a little odd for a garlic flavored poke. Overall I was craving Hawaiin style poke and this satisfied my cravings.

Not my favorite item of the day. - Sea dragon roll - delicious: the attention to detail with the avocado slices to the perfect grilled eel this one blended together really nicely. - Poke Bowl - I ordered 3 scoops of Salmon (extra $5 for the third scoop) - this was really delicious. The salmon marinade blended together nicely with the flavored rice. Una Don - the unagi pieces had the perfect smoky and sweet flavor blend. One of the best unagi pieces I've ever had. Overall five stars for the quality of food, creativity especially with the Orange Ginza Line, and service. I will caveat that the portion sizes are quite small for the price point. I was out the door $118 for this meal for two. I'd recommend ordering like you would at an elevated dining restaurant. Try a bowl and a couple of rolls per person and splurge a little. The interior of the shop is clean and minimal and on the smaller side. Be warned there was no AC on a warm summer day when I came. Thanks to a Yelp recommendation, and always on the hunt for quality sushi in San Diego, I had to get my husband and I a reservation. Today, a weekday, we snagged a reservation for noon. I highly recommend a reservation because even within a few minutes of sitting down there were other diners showing up and service picked up quickly. However, I'm sure you could always grab a seat at their sushi bar. One aspect of dining today that we both took notice of was their attention to detail - especially in service. We greatly appreciated that our table had a sign with our name and reservation at the table - just giving that they were prepared to receive us and made it a little extra special. Another note is their attention to swapping out our sake glasses as we changed types of sake during our meal. Oftentimes you're served a new drink and expected to use the same glass. For us, we appreciated a new glass. Regarding our dining experience - no notes. Chef 100% knows what they're doing and I feel I would be ridiculous to even begin to critique their approach and service. I love that omakase have become more approachable for diners and it is something I enjoy trying whenever visiting a new sushi restaurant. I feel it can be a great opportunity to try a little bit of everything Chef has to offer. For today, I chose their midi omakase option and my husband tried their chef's choice of hand-roll set. Trying to keep this review to an appropriate length, well, there just isn't enough I could write that could put into words the enjoyment we had. So, if you're still with me, I highly recommend Moment Sushi. We will definitely be dining again!

We walked into a clean, functional space with a straightforward ramen shop feel that keeps the attention on the food rather than the décor. The atmosphere is unpretentious and efficient, the kind of place where you come for the bowl in front of you rather than the surroundings, and the steady flow of customers speaks to the quality coming out of the kitchen. The ramen is the main highlight, especially the noodles and broth combination. The noodles have a great texture with a firm bite that holds up well in the soup, which makes a noticeable difference in the overall bowl. The tonkotsu ramen delivers a rich and savory broth, creamy without being heavy, paired with toppings like chashu and soft-boiled egg that add layers of flavor and texture. The spicy miso ramen adds more depth and heat without losing the comforting qualities of a classic ramen bowl, and the heat level is balanced well enough that it does not overpower the other components. The tantanmen and black sesame ramen are also good options if you want something a little different from the standard ramen lineup, each offering a distinct flavor profile that still feels rooted in the traditional style. The toppings help round out the experience, with the chashu being one of the stronger parts of the meal. The pork is tender and flavorful, with a nice sear that adds a subtle smokiness, and it pulls apart easily without being mushy. The soft-boiled egg is cooked to that perfect jammy consistency, and the seasoned egg adds a richness that ties the bowl together. The karaage is another popular addition, with crispy pieces that work well as a side alongside the ramen, offering a contrast in texture and a break from the broth-heavy main. There are also options for different preferences, including vegetarian choices and customizable add-ons, which gives the menu a bit more flexibility than some ramen spots. One thing to plan for is the wait. The restaurant uses a waitlist system, and it can get busy during peak dinner hours, so joining the list ahead of time is the best way to avoid standing around. Once seated, the service is generally efficient and the food comes out quickly, which helps keep the experience moving without feeling rushed. The staff handle the flow well, and the turnover moves at a pace that matches the casual, no-fuss style of the restaurant. Menya Ultra is one of those ramen spots where the quality of the noodles and broth makes it worth the visit. The combination of authentic flavors, well-executed bowls, and a focused menu makes it a strong choice for anyone looking for a satisfying ramen meal in San Diego. It delivers the kind of bowl that feels both comforting and intentional, the sort of meal that stays with you after the last spoonful.
