as someone from mira mesa who moved away for college, this place has been on my list to try for a whiiiile the second i came back for the summer. first of all i love the people working here! they're all super friendly and on the day i visited their cute dog was outside looking all sleepy. adorable! they fed their dog some fruits too and it was just super cute seeing how they allow their customers to interact with their dog and it made the place feel very community-based and homey. i'll always love the vibe of small businesses over chains. my boyfriend and i tried two different ones each, with us both getting a katsu sando. the katsu was both of our favorites for sure. great ratio of bread to meat and the sauce made it taste super good. i liked the egg sando he bought more than he did, but it still wasn't our favorite. that's just a personal preference though. it was also a little harder to eat since the egg salad slips out of the bread, but it's just because of the consistency of the egg salad, nothing that was the fault of kumo's. i was pretty disappointed in the fruit sando tbh. there was too much cream for my liking and i wasn't a huge fan of the pairing with the bread. i wish the bread for the fruit sando was sweeter. overall, this place is very nice to try at least once, but for the price it's not somewhere i'd frequent. but i love a small business especially because i'm from mira mesa, so i'd definitely visit again! i also loved how sweet the workers were and the service was very nice. i asked if they had spicy mayo and they didn't, but offered to make me some which was very kind of them. support small and make sure to give kumo a try!! :) read more

First time trying. Ordered the chicken katsu sando, egg sando, fruit and cream sando, veg gyoza and croquettes. Both sandos were just okay, nothing special. The egg sando was very bland - just no flavor at all and the bread was hard in places, not as soft as it looks in pictures! The gyoza and the croquette were good. Husband says the chicken katsu sando was okay. The sandos were a good size but just bland. Disappointed as I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. Ps. The fruit cream sandos with the strawberry, kiwi, grape and orange was really good! A nice light dessert, flavorful fruit, light fluffy whipper cream and soft bread! My favorite! read more

Kumo is tucked away in the corner next to a few other food places. There are tables outside to sit down and eat. Food wise, kumo was very not worth the hype and price. I ordered the katsu sando, egg salad and fruit sando, but they were all extremely disappointing. Katsu: 6/10 Katsu itself tasted good with the original sauce, soft texture and not the usual crunchy mess that katsu is. But that's it. The sando was overall very dry and the lettuce bits they add in there was just soggy, tasteless and messy. Egg salad: 2/10 Egg salad could have been better if it wasn't for all the salt. Literal giant chucks of salt just thrown on the sando. It's so salty and overwhelming, completely ruins the sando. It could be better if they just relaxed on the salt because it ruins the taste completely. Fruit sando: 5/10 It's okay, just super messy. Overall, kumo is a place to try just to try. I came by for their grand opening special, buy 2 & get a fruit cream for half off. For a limited menu, I was really expecting a punch of flavors with their sandwiches. I ordered a chicken & menchi katsu with the original sauce & the fruit cream. The chicken katsu was very crispy but a bit bland. The menchi was a bit more flavorful compared to the chicken but both sandwiches were a bit too dry for my liking. The fruit cream had a beautiful presentation but boy, it was overloaded with cream! Every time I took a bite, cream would spill out on the sides. Overall, no significant flavors between all the sandwiches that I tried. The price seems kinda steep for the food you get. My wife and I shared a chicken katsu sando and fruit sando. Both portions were small compared with what you pay. The chicken katsu tasted fresh and good. For the fruit sando, we thought there would be more fruits inside the cream instead of just several blueberries. read more

I've been searching for a place that serves egg sandwiches similar to the ones at 7/11 in Japan. I came across a place in San Diego that looked promising, but unfortunately, I was disappointed with both the quality of the food and the hygiene. One of the employees who made my egg sandwich didn't wear gloves, while the other employee who made the katsu wore gloves but continued to touch dirty rags and other surfaces. Although I would have liked to say something, I didn't think it was worth it. I don't plan on returning to this place and wouldn't recommend it read more

This place is just ok. We tried all 4 sandwiches and it came out to almost $60. My favorite was the menchi. I liked the crunch and the pepto bismol colored sauce lol. The worst was the egg salad which was disappointing. How can you have a sando place and have bad egg salad? The bread was tough and the filling was bland plus chunky. Amazing food and service! We stopped after an early morning activity and it was around 10 AM. Their sign on the door said they open at 11 AM. But the door was propped open and a very friendly gentleman asked if he could help us and we asked if they were open. He said, "Not officially, but I can make you guys some sandwiches, no problem!". He promptly took our order, made us our delicious sandwiches and delivered them outside to our table. And I should mention, this was Christmas Eve morning! Not worth the hype. Got $12 egg sando for myself and it was so underwhelming. The egg salad was too salty and they sprinkled too much pepper on the other side. In Japan, the traditional egg salad is supposed to be a little bit sweet and looks yellow. But they somehow changed it and created weird beige colored one with too much seasoning that taste more like dashi maki tamago(Japanese savory egg roll with dashi broth in it) I seriously wanted to get paid $12 to taste it read more

Saw quite a few posting about this place off of IG and some postings from friends...so thought I'd try it out. Ordered the chicken katsu combo, comes with a chicken katsu sandwich a side of potato salad, a side of imitation crab salad, and a drink for $15. Sandwich was good, had cabbage and katsu sauce with a nicely fried chicken katsu filet. Was afraid it would be overcooked and dry but the chicken was done perfectly, crunchy and moist. The sides were just alright, potato salad was a bit too sour for my liking but the crab salad was ok when eaten with the sandwich. On its own, it was on the saltier side but not bad. The drink was decent, had a good tea flavor. Next time I think I'll just stick with the sandwich alone. read more

The sandos at Kumo are just amazing! Their chicken katsu has that good crunch and and their bread is just so soft and taste ridiculously delicious. Their menchi katsu tastes also very unique and savory. With the red ginger, it has more crunch to it and taste a lot better with the ground beef with the menchi katsu. The egg salad sando is just beyond amazing, its very creamy and very well-flavored. The fruit cream is also very creamy and has a good amount of sweetness to it. Their sides are really good too, the chicken kaarage has a good amount of juice to it and has a little crunch, the cinnamon crust sticks are very sweet but also very crunchy. Between all their classic teas, the oolong taste really nice and refreshing! Their service is very nice and polite and they helped out a lot on our own food!
