Lot of seating inside. Everything was okay. I feel the there was lots of breading for the fish filet and beef pie. The mongolian beef was tender. The soup dumplings were ok.
This is the first time I have been back here since they changed ownership and changed name a few years ago. It is really outstanding, I think even better than before. I'll have to try it more often!
I ordered spicy stir-fried dry pot. I feel that this has lots of MSG. Almost too excessive. It has that strong after taste numbing feeling to it. Also the water provided tastes really bad.. like a bad tap water. Business owner. Pls invest in water filter system. You tap water with ice has strong bad taste. Not drinkable. Thank you. The ambiance was nice and clean. It was difficult to give tip bc of the taste.
The food was not very tasty and not authentic. The pricing is fair and the portions are average. We came on a Saturday afternoon and the place was not very busy. We ordered the fried pork intestines with chilies, the west lake soup, and the beef noodle soup. West lake soup:(1/5) The west lake soup had egg, and beef and pork cubes. However there were not enough beef and pork cubes for the price. It was watery and not very fragrant. The portions were average. It did not taste very good. I would not recommend this dish if you are looking for authentic west lake soup. Fried pork intestines with chilies:(2/5) The intestines were neither crispy nor soft. They were chewy and flavourless, which was surprising considering they were super oily. It also came with peppers. This dish did not impress me. Beef noodle soup:(3/5) The soup broth was quite watery and too salty. There was a lot of sliced beef. The beef tasted fine and had a fine texture. The noodles were average. It also came with some Bok Choy. Overall the noodles were quite average, considering price, taste, and portions. Service:(3/5) The waitress refilled our waters twice. However they did not clear plates after we were done using them. They were also subtly rude. The service was borderline, but I expected better from a place with only 3 tables of customers. Ambience:(4/5) Place looks modern and clean despite its age. There were some paintings on the wall. Since there was not a lot of people eating, the place was pretty quiet. Side note: they also have an iced jelly dessert for free if you leave a 5 star review. (I did not get this personally because I don't like leaving fake reviews that don't align with how I feel about the place.) Overall the ambience was nice but I could not recommend the food here.
Came here for dinner. Lots of Asians, very very authentic. Probably the best Chinese food in the valley. The biggest highlight for me is the toothpick lamb. If you're not a fan of lamb I understand but love the small tender morsels seasoned with mala spice. Also highly recommend the chive and meat dumplings. Picked with flavor and with a delicious light but doughy skin.
Still a solid place for handmade noodles. I like that they give you several different options and recommendations. Their beef noodle soup is a solid go-to here. The wait staff is courteous and the restaurant isn't cramped. I typically go when it isn't too crowded.
Kungfu Kitchen has THE BEST Xiao Long Bao in the Valley. I've been coming to this restaurant for years, even since they were known as Chou's Kitchen. I've also been to numerous other local Asian restaurants. None has matched the Steamed Juicy Pork Dumplings you'll find here. The wraps are whisper thin and delicate, the pork is tasty and ... the soup is flavorful; not an afterthought. I'd give 10 stars if I could! I've sampled many other dishes here, too. The Scallion Pancakes are always served hot, light and crispy. The Cucumber with Garlic Sauce is consistently cool and crispy. I just wish they'd add Shu Mai to the menu. I must give credit where credit is due. The service was perfection! I wish I could remember the Server's name. While I've been to other restaurants where the Server does the bare minimum, this woman was proactive, attentive and friendly. Her service was worth more than a 20% tip. Again, 10 stars are warranted! Since re-opening as "Kungfu Kitchen", there's been an update to the dining room. The refresh makes it look lighter and brighter. I just wish the wood- look tables were real wood instead of plastic. They seem odd to the touch. Plus, the seats slip around with the slightest movement. If it's top notch Xiao Long Bao you're looking for, look no further. Kungfu Kitchen has the best.
My family and I wanted to go to Chou's, but they were closed on the day we picked. But remembered this use to be the second location. Saw that their menu was similar and decided to give them a go. There was six of us but I got there early to get a table. I walked in no one greeted me and they were on their phone ignoring me, even though there was only two other tables in the establishment. Once they finally decided to acknowledge me they told me to pick a seat. I chose the big round table near the front. They got upset and told me I couldn't sit there. So I told them I had 6 in total, they gave me attitude and side eye as I continued to sit. The rest of my family came, we do have one vegan in out family so I ordered something from the menu and told them we couldn't do the brown sauce and to take out the meat, our server argued with me about it and wanted to put it in her way and it still came out wrong. We also ordered the cold meat appetizer, XLB, veg dumplings, spicy crispy chicken, toothpick lamb and spicy chili fish. The cold meat platter was literally 50% peanuts and only had two cuts of meat. Veg dumplings were pretty good. Our Pork XLB seemed cold and the first three of us ate it all in one bite and just thought maybe it was just sitting there for a while. Well the fourth person to eat it bit it in half and screamed, the pork wasn't cooked. So the other three kind of freaked out lol funny but not funny. ( only two of us ended up with stomach issues ) We told our server and she didn't seem like she cared much and just asked if we wanted another one. We respectfully declined. Their toothpick lamb was great cuts of lamb and we enjoyed the flavors. The crispy spicy chicken was actually pretty delicious as well. The chili fish had nice cuts of fish but could have been a bit more flavorful. Can't say if we will ever make the drive from Gilbert to come here again, but they need better staff.
We were in the search of some good dumplings and noodles near the campus. This restaurant is super close and was great. Food is good and affordable. Being near campus, it's definitely important to be affordable. There were only 2 of us so we got 3 dishes. Yummy! It wasn't busy since we came around 3 pm. I would highly recommend trying this place!
I've been craving toothpick lamb and definitely was in a lamb mood. I've had this dish in the past at several places, including this place before with friends and it is one of the best that is cooked well and seasoned perfectly with a nice kick. The lady that took my order was friendly. I would highly recommend this place, have had so many good and well seasoned, spicy dishes here.

This is my go-to Chinese place and I can't believe I haven't written a review about it yet! We love dinning in due to the quick service and amazing fresh food. Our go-to plates are the Mongolian beef and the chicken stir fry noodles. I also love the Szechuan Chicken or Beef but it's really spicy so brace yourself if you want to try it. The Mongolian beef is the best dish by far tho! The sauce they are using, the super tender beef and the veggies cooked together just make it a wonderful plate. Definitely recommend this place!
Food is really good. We ordered pork stir fry, squid and frog legs and all were delicious. My coworkers enjoyed it . They are from MY & VN and they liked it. It was fresh and well cooked. Service is great as well.

I wanted to stop for some dim sum after landing at sky harbor and this place popped up. Staff was friendly and the menu was extensive. My favorite was the Szechuan tan tan noodles, but we also had some pork dumplings and a brisket dish. Loved the food and will be back to try more. read more
In the heart of tempe... near downtown ASU is authentic Sichuan food! You can't get this confused with regular take out chinese or Hong Kong style.. The food caters to northern style chinese food known for their spices. Price is perfect and even enough for 5 people we had plenty of leftovers. My favorite was the dragon eggplant and the hot pot with cucumber. Definitely will be back knowing everyone in my family loved it and it fit our bill. read more

Amazing! The best meal we've had in a while. The spicy cabbage was so flavorful. Lettuce wraps and spicy szechuan chicken were also delicious. There was a short 10-15 min wait when we ate dinner there on a Friday night. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. Restaurant was a typical chinese food ambiance, but very clean. Chou's Kitchen is easily one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in the Valley (might I say THE best?!) and consistently nails their food quality every time. No visit to Chou's is complete without an order of juicy pork dumplings. Their soup dumplings are pretty hard to beat -- make sure to dip yours in their black vinegar sauce! If you're looking for a totally underrated dish, order their fried rice. Don't let the light color fool you -- it's sooo flavorful with plenty of 'wok hei,' for all my Cantonese foodies out there. This past visit was my first time trying their tofu with century eggs and I was pretty delighted. Great appetizer for all the garlic lovers out there -- and a great intro to century eggs for any newbies with an adventurous palette. Keep in mind that service can be slow, but they are friendly and always work as quickly as possible with the amount of staff they have. read more

A nice traditional Chinese restaurant in the heart of Tempe. They have many traditional dishes that are non-american Chinese food. They have those as well. Everything is cooked to order. Staff is on point and knowledgeable on all of their food. Large selection of items at a decent price with large portions. Definitely come and check it out if you want more than just American style Chinese read more

The food was great, me and my partner shared the bbq pork buns and the Xio long bao. Enough for two and he eats a lot. Service was very nice. Music was very calming. I like that the menus have pictures and the staff will answer any questions. My boyfriend said very authentic. read more

Chou's kitchen came to us as a recommendation as our other favorite dumpling place was closed. I didn't think their food was fresh. I also tasted that they rested entirely on MSG carrying the backbone of the flavor and for that reason I can't really recommend eating here for those two reasons. I rather skip on dumplings than go here. read more

Viewed their menu on their website and placed our order via phone. Our order was ready within 15-20 minutes. Dumplings with Pork & Napa Cabbage(10), $6.98: If you don't specify the default is steamed dumplings which is never my go to (but more traditional). I could tell that they are made in house as they were not perfectly uniform in size and the dough was thicker than premade dumpling wrappers. They did not come with a sauce. They were juicy but not the best dumplings I've ever had. Yangzhou Fried Rice, $9.98: Pale in color and soft, a stark contrast to fried rice you will get at most restaurants. Good imo because I don't love super salty soy-saucey fried rice. There were pieces of shrimp, beef, ham, and chicken throughout and standard frozen vegetables (carrots, peas, corn). Kung Pao Chicken, $11.98: Comes with a side of white rice. Upon unbagging our goods, the boxes were greasy from the spilled sauce. Messy. Although it was advertised as spicy, it was not. Well if this has been sitting in your bookmarked folder for years like me, I'd say it's time to try this place. They have a variety of options on their menu. From traditional plates to American Chinese food like orange chicken if you want to be safe. But don't be safe! You're coming here to venture out, and try something new! If you're wondering what to get, I highly recommend their steamy juicy pork dumplings (soup dumplings) and toothpick lamb. The soup dumplings were juicy with a hint of ginger. The wrap was good texture and wasn't over steamed. Now for the toothpick lamb, we were on the fence about getting it but felt adventurous to try something new. It was friend lamb on a toothpick with a dry rub to give it more flavor. I believe it was a cumin seasoning and a spice similar to Chinese 5 spice. Anyhow try this place and try these dishes! We were looking to order some Chinese takeout to celebrate Chinese New Year. This place was highly recommended on the Phoenix New Times, so we decided to order on Uber Eats. This place has more authentic dishes than your typical Chinese restaurant. We ordered some steam juicy pork dumplings, which are their soup dumplings. They came out perfectly and soupy (which means a lot for takeout since usually the soup dumplings are less soupy if they aren't served fresh). The dumplings with pork and pickled vegetable were very good too (but those aren't soup dumplings). I'd also highly recommend the stir-fried wood ear mushroom with Shanyao. This place seems like a little hole in the wall, but once you order and try the food you'll quickly realize it's a hidden gem! This is the absolute BEST Chinese food I've ever had! Good food, excellent service. I used to live across this place, and this was one of my favorite go-to restaurants around this area. Their food is fresh and yummy, and their service is excellent. Everyone is so friendly!! This time, I had beef stew noodle soup and combo fried rice, omg... fried rice was so fresh and flavorful. I feel like they used freshly cooked rice instead of old rice for the fried rice, the sauce was good, as well as the meat. And the noodle soup broth tasted rich yet not greasy, so good. If you wanna go for authentic Chinese food, this is the right place. Speaking from a Chinese's perspective, I could tell the food was made by chefs from China for sure. It suits my appetite just right and god, how much do I miss the taste from home. What they put in to make those food were just right. If you are a Chinese food lover, this is a must to go in Tempe area. The vegetables are very light-sauced but giving enough taste so it's not bland at all. Calamari is a surprise just to get to taste the right salt and pepper spice in it. It's spicy and Szechuan style. Crunchy and chewy to every bite you have on it. The Spicy chicken is beyond good. They floured and starch-coated the chicken before frying it and it's how it's made to the right crispy way. Then they stir-fried it with peppers and peanuts. It gives out the heat and "wok hey" from the dish and you know what, that's what we called authentic! Service is good and the interior design is modern. Love to see they have this place very clean. It's one important factor I value a lot in a Chinese restaurant. This is a very solid Chinese restaurant very close to ASU Gammage where we attend shows. There are, several dumpling specialties as well as meat pies. And since we had never had ine of these delicacies, we tried the Beef. It was truly wonderful! Juicy, well seasoned and a great appetizer! For Entrées my wife had sesame chicken which is a standard for her, and it was very well executed. The sauce, wasn't overly sweet, and they didn't bury the chicken in it, which was another plus. I had the Cumin Lamb, which I also had never had, and I was not disappointed! It was beautifully seasoned, and was stir fried with onions, scallions, and bell peppers. It was a little drier than I expected, but the lamb flavor came through anyway. The chili flake gave the dish just the right amount of subtle, heat. Well done! Finally, I have to really complement the service. First of all, we were in and out in just under an hour and we didn't feel rushed. My pet peeve is having my Entree come out before I've finished my appetizer, and this place knocked it out of the park when I said we, wanted the meat pie to come out first, our very considerate server didn't even place the entree order because he knew it would be ready too soon! He blew me, away! Everything came promptly, and my water glass was refilled constantly. Not only that, but the whole dinner was under $40!! First time at Chou's about a month back. Coming from California, it seemed it was impossible to find good Asian food, but this place is legit. Food was amazing, service was very friendly. Dare I say the xiao long baos here are better than Din Tai Fung... Only downside was it was incredibly hot in here as if they didn't have central AC, which is unacceptable when it's over 100 degrees out. My friend was dripping sweat as we ate. read more

Chou's Kitchen is my absolute favorite Chinese place to go to, and it's super close! The General Tso's chicken is delightfully spicy, the side noodles are the perfect amount and stick together perfectly, and you'll always have some rice leftover! If you're starving, this is the perfect place to crush that hunger, and if you're not, this food is super easy to divide into leftover portions or share with a family! Very much recommend it to anyone who wants great Chinese in Tempe!! read more

My husband and I have been to the location in Chandler and we really liked it, so we were happy to give the Tempe location a try. We arrived on a Friday night, around 7:30/8pm. The place was extremely busy but luckily we were able to get a table. We ordered the cumin lamb, the beef pies, the house special stir fry (which means all meats - chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp), and the juicy pork steam buns. The cumin lamb was delicious and probably our favorite. My husband didn't really enjoy the stir fry and added a lot of hot oil to spice it up. I liked it but thought the shrimp was over cooked. The beef pies were really good as well. We were almost done with our meal and had to remind our server that we hadn't received our pork buns. Thankfully, after reminding our server, the buns were brought out relatively quickly. Overall, the food is really good and the service is quick and efficient. It's definitely worth trying if you are in the area and craving some good Chinese food! read more

Did they change the cook at the Tempe location? CAuse I always go there an get a couple of dishes regular on occasions that I want Chou's. However, this past Saturday, both dishes tasted different!
