    13. Jade Vegetable Dumplings

A word of caution, right from the start. Please come here hungry! We weren't super hungry but wanted to grab a meal before watching a movie. We should have come in famished and ready to go because there was a lot we wanted to try and we ended up getting way more than we could finish. Now, on to the food itself! Hits: - Potato dry pot: crispy and tasty, almost addicting. We loved it. - Vegetable dumplings: perfect. Just perfect. Perfect texture, flavors (sauce Is excellent) and...yeah just great all the way around. - shrimp dumplings: again with the perfect flavors, perfect amount of shrimp in the dumpling, and delish sauce. - Diced chicken: loved it, good amount of chicken but maybe too many Szechuan chilies? Not because it made it too hot for us, mostly because they just got in the way. Misses: - dry fried cauliflower: emphasis on the "dry". First few bites are good but then we kinda got sick of it as it was somehow both dry and heavy. The dishes we loved we truly loved, and there's plenty on the menu that we would love to come back and try. We got to enjoy our meal surrounded by some lovely interiors decor. The Paintings on the walls are gorgeous (that peacock!) and the lighting is warm and inviting. Service was slower but we weren't in a rush anyway -- we just wanted a nice leisurely meal. Looking forward to our next visit!

Previously Peter Chang restaurant, this new branded restaurant seems to have kept the same menu. I was told by the waiter that the chef is still the same one. We tried a few traditional dishes on the menu, and I have to say the spices are definitely there! For brown sugar rice cake, the rice cake texture was not as sticky and smooth as it should have been, and the dipping powder was interesting with spices instead of just sweet sugar. Maybe because it is an appetizer, not a dessert. Service was good except we waited a bit long for main courses to come. However I will have to say the lunch menu prices are VERY reasonable. Maybe it's the grand opening effect?

We were headed to another restaurant and decided to pop in to this one because we had heard that this place used to be a Peter Chang. Decided to give it a go. It's quite spacious and clean inside. The food prices seems to be a hit or a miss. For the chicken dishes $16/20 was a good deal for the amount. But, when you're comparing that with the wuhan noodles to be $13, the noodles then seem to be overpriced. Just by comparing, I thoroughly enjoyed the diced spicy chicken (#34) and at $16, it ended up being the most worth it for me. The overall taste was better than expected. We thought this place was going to be a bit more Americanized rather than authentic, but it was surprisingly good. It does have more Americanized characteristics like asparagus in the Kung pao chicken, but it wasn't too bad. The service was good. Our server was attentive and kept checking in on us.

I haven't been to Rockville town center for a long time, I was surprised to find the restaurant was changed to a new name and new decor, possibly new owner. I still decided to give it a try. The service was pleasant, the decor was bright and uplifting. There were outdoor tables also under the colorful lanterns. The price was a bit higher than other Chinese restaurants nearby, but the food was good. I plan to go back and try some other d We ordered: 4*Bubble pancake: it's the signature dish, really delicious especially with the sauce. 4* Beef Tendon with Tripe 夫妻肺片it was a cold appetizer. It was spicy and good, but the portion was rather small. 5*Dragon Eggplant 鱼香蟠龙茄子: the portion was big, and eggplants were skillfully cut into a linked chain that was arranged like a dragon. It had a bit sweet and spicy flavor. 4*Chef's new recommended dish new complex duck 新式复合鸭: I was used to Peking duck. It was like that and pretty good. But it was still new to me. It would take a while for me to get used to it

So this place was a Peter Chang restaurant. Now, it's a newer and better and tastier restaurant called Kungfu Kitchen (new owner and management as well). The taste and price of the dishes were really good. $176 post-tax, pre-tip, for five entrees and four appetizers is a steal! House special broiled branzino was excellent. For $45, you get a humongous fish with a generous amount of veggies and potatoes in the broth. The taste was superb. The other entrees were delicious as well. The two children chomped on the rice cake and pancake dishes. So I missed out. But judging from their fervor, the dishes had to be good! The Dan Dan noodle was probably the only dish that did not hold its weight. It was alright at best. The menu is extensive and we've only scratched its surface. We'll definitely come back for more!

I had the pleasure of dining here a couple of days ago, and I must say, both the food and the service were absolutely exceptional. Matthew Hsuan, our waiter, went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing experience. His professionalism, warm demeanor, and genuine friendliness stood out immediately. He not only made us feel welcome but also impressed us with his thoughtful recommendations. Thanks to him, we got to try several delicious dishes that we might have otherwise overlooked, and each one was a delightful surprise. Matthew's dedication to excellent service truly elevated our evening. This is a photo of him at the bottom.

Something has changed in the quality of food here and I'm not sure why. We recently visited and got what has always been our favorite dishes and the taste was different and not in a good way. Later on during dinner I became nauseous and had to stop. I hate to see such a community staple lose its touch but this isn't the same Peter Chang we've known.

Just had an amazing plate of crispy fried calamari. With it we ordered the Chinese mixed vegetables. Fabulous. I've never seen a plate of mixed vegetables that included asparagus, baby bok choy, and all the usual Chinese vegetables. The food was simply Delicious. I would stop by just for a takeout order of the mixed vegetables.

Be wary when tipping here. My fault for not seeing the calculation but when we split the bill, the receipt suggested $15.65 for 18% on the total bill instead of what should be $7.82 on a split bill ($43.46). Totally fell for it, very scammy behavior.

This is the old Peter Changs undergoing a change in management. In reality, it's the same chef since 2021 who's an apprentice of Peter Chang's. But that means you can't tell the difference in quality of food, because everything is still there and tastes great. Ambiance is much more modern and clean, which fits with my taste better. Prices though are through the roof, so if price is something you value the most, don't come here.

In the old "PF Chang's" space in downtown Rockville. Ambience and decorations are amazing. Staff is super friendly. They make accommodations to items on request. Indoor and outdoor seating. Wheelchair accessible. The food - not bad, not great, but all good. HUGE portions. Decent prices. But apps and main dishes delivered person by person across many minutes of time, so our group of five didn't really "eat together." The option is politely wait and eat cold stuff, or watch others eat and then they watch you eat. The apps are AMAZING. Spring rolls and steamed dumplings - very delicious. The main meals - not bad at all and huge portions, but not packed with flavor that is typical of Chinese food. Still - we enjoyed it all. They have lunch specials and dinner specials. Note that things like "rice" with your dish are a small but extra fee. Will likely go back and try again sometime.

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic flavor and food! For the longest time I confused Peter Chang with PF Chang. They are not the same. I also opt for Cantonese before Szechuan because the latter tends to have more spicy dishes. But there are certainly many non-spicy dishes on the menu of Peter Chang and his other restaurants. After having such a difficult week, we decided to go out for dinner to end on a good note. I will always start with the famous bubble pancake. My mind is still blown on how it's made. Someone please allow me into the kitchen to see. Please? And you have to eat it with the curry dip. The pancake may have been enough for four but between the two of us, we did pretty good. We got three entrees of seafood curry, basil eggplant, and black pepper beef. The seafood curry was the same curry as the pancake dip so when we ran out of the dip, we started dipping the pancake in the seafood hot pot. The seafood curry was my favorite of the three that we ordered. The black pepper beef was too peppery. The basil eggplant had a great basil flavor. Peter Chang has mastered the flavors of his dishes. It was such a wonderful culinary experience. We had so much leftover, that there will definitely be enough for tomorrow's lunch. I plan to put ramen in the seafood curry. There was a lot of sauce left that will make a good "soup" with the ramen. Parking: There is plenty of free two hour parking in the nearby garage. Service: Fantastic. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. Not sure if they take reservations because I didn't see any option to do it online. We didn't have a problem just walking in on a Friday evening around 6:00 p.m. The restaurant did get busy after that. Our server was attentive and checked in on us a few times. Decor: Lovely decor overall. The booth that we sat in did have seats that were tattered. Might be time to do some minor repairs to spruce it up. But don't let this affect your experience of the great food here.

Not sure why this place got just 3.5 stars. The food at Peter Chang is always good. Portions could be a bit better, but taste wise the food is always delectable. I tried the pork shank December special, and it was amazing! The meat was super tender, and at $16 was a terrific deal! My go to starter is the spicy fried eggplant. That never disappoints. Make sure not to get it to go, as it will get soggy. The bang bang shrimp was tasty, and goes good with rice (not included). Personally, I'm not a big fan of Peter Chang the man, since he defected and is now taking in millions. It's like illegal immigration doesn't apply to celebrities and good chefs. But the food, I must say, is tasty!

Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

A solid spot for sharing with a group, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to love this place. The soup dumplings are among the better ones in the area. While the wrappers aren't as thin or chewy as the very best, you can tell they're handmade, and I'll always appreciate that. I'd recommend sticking with the pork soup dumplings since they were rich, savory, and full of umami. The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! We arrived right when they opened around 11 AM on a weekend and were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy yet. The staff were also accommodating with a baby seat, which made the visit comfortable for families. The steamed cart is always my favorite, and Far East does it well. Standouts for me were the shrimp rice crepe (silky and delicate), shrimp dumplings (har gow) with plump, juicy filling, and the steamed ribs, which were tender and flavorful. Against my better judgement, I made the trek into Rockville to meet up with some folks for Sunday dim sum. IMHO, while it's true at one point, VA dim sum was inferior to it's MD siblings across the river, I'd say there are plenty of comparable if not BETTER places in VA. Our group was large (15), so we had to dine at two tables, as the largest table could only accomodate12. And note, for dim sum, Far East does not seat incomplete parties, so everyone arrive early. Also note, if you do choose to dine here, the parking lot is fairly small - but there is additional parking towards the back past the dumpsters. My recollection from 2023, was the selection of dishes was quite limited, and the 3-4 ladies who were pushing the steam carts, were peddling the same items over and over. That experience has not changed in 3 yrs. Upon sitting, our hungry group ordered dishes of shrimp dumplings (har gow), shumai, tofu rolls, rice rolls w/shrimp and beef, etc. Everything was fine; but nothing really stood out. The items were lukewarm, and cooled within a few minutes of being passed around the Lazy Susan. To me anyway, I found many of the dishes to be underseasoned...and when does a person characterize Chinese food as not being SALTY enough? The table chili oil was also quite bland. There was a good mix of fried chilis combined with oil, but there was just a hint of spice/heat with the predominant flavor being a heavy greasiness. Perhaps the worst part of the experience was the service. Even accepting that Chinese restaurants are notorious for "providing" legendary bad service, Far East exceeded that reputation. I understand that it was Sunday and the place was busy, but it took over 10 minutes for water and tea to arrive. And a few times, I literally had to get up from the table to flag down servers to refill empty water glasses and tea pots. Piles of dirty dishes kept piling up to the point where a few of us, took them to the bussers and food runners ourselves to make space for new dishes at the table. However, the worst incident was at the end when the servers and what I assume was the manager, rushed us to pay the bill since they needed the table, one of the staff was hurriedly cleaning the table, and spilled an entire glass of ice water on my friend's dress! He didn't even apologize, and when she went to complain to the manager, the only thing he said was, "it's only water, it will wash out." Wow! even by Chinese restaurant standards, that's bad!!! When the bill arrived, the total came out to roughly $35/person with tax and tip (gratuity is already included for larger parties, so be sure to double-check the bill). The meal was definitely NOT worth the $35, and for that amount, I could've had a much better and filling meal at Peter Chang Herndon - https://www.yelp.com/biz/peter-chang-herndon?osq=Peter+Chang This will undoubtedly be the last time I travel to Montgomery County for dim sum...and especially to Far East Restaurant.
