Nice modern decor. Great atmosphere. Tepan yaki at times is a little slow so if you are in a hurry I would not recommend it. But if you do go...the fired rice is absolutely awesome and has a smokey flavor to it. Tonight I also ordered the crab roll. It was extremely good and filling. Enough for 2 people to share. If you order dessert I would recommend the bread pudding. It comes with 2 scoops of ice cream with caramel drizzled all over it. First impression at teppanyaki was high... Looking around at the other tables, the chefs were friendly and entertaining. The waitress was prompt and attentive. The soup served is miso. The salad was more than just iceberg lettuce. The fried rice is made with bacon... but, I don't know how it tasted! Steaks were tender and served rare (hubby) and med rare (me). Shrimp, scallops and calamari were excellent, not over cooked. I would try eating here again; although not all was positive... We were seated quickly... at a table with a small pile of "leftover" stuff towards one corner and bits of old rice scattered around. Unfortunately, our chef didn't clean the grill before starting the rice; and, it most definitely needed to be!!! But... cooking the bacon and the rice did take care of it... (no smiley face) ...which is why it my rice was not eaten; and why I had to take away a star away. read more

I have been coming here for quite sometime and have always enjoyed the food, assorted craft beer and ambience. We had been getting takeout and decided to sit down, quite a feat for my wife as she has concerns about the new Delta strain. We arrived at about 530ish, it wasn't too crowded and seated quickly. Despite that there were only three of us they gave a table for six. My wife and daughter ordered a Sunset and Rainbow rolls. I ordered the sushi and sashimi plate. We also got a gyoza appetizer. Our waiter, a young lady was working our area by herself and you could tell she rather be somewhere else. She never introduced herself, forgot my wife and daughter's ice tea and never smiled. She had her game face as if she worked in a prison. The rolls, sushi and sashimi were fabulous. The gyoza was terrible, I sent the first order back and they still F up the follow up order. I have eaten at a lot of Japanese restaurants and never had such horrible gyoza. Our waiter never asked how our food was and pretty must just gave us the bill as I was finishing my 2nd beer. We still tipped her bc well, it's tough times. It seems like maybe they had a management or owner change bc the bar was dead and the vibe was just ok. My wife and I went here last night with my best friend, his wife and mother in law. This was the first time any of us had been there. The bill for all five of us was about $125 plus tip. The tepanyaki show was great and the chef, Kou, was funny and personable. I am not a fan of fish. That said , I tried my wife's seafood combo. The calamari was good and the scallops were tender and tasty. The shrimp was absolutely amazing. I had the beef and chicken combo. Both were great and the portions were huge. I love spicy food and always ask for extra spicy sauce with tepanyaki. The spicy sauce here is the best of all the tepanyaki places I have been to. Everyone at our table loved their food and the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for tepanyaki. None of us had sushi so I cannot attest to the quality of the sushi. read more

Good ramen. Good sushi. Nice happy hour appetizers. Decent service when sitting at the bar or dining. But I must say when sitting in teppan during the hotter days your face will melt off and your drinks will quickly become hot as well. I really like this place for various reasons but I have now deemed that teppan is not one of them. When I come back I definitely won't dine in teppan it's just way too hot. So hot that I lost my appetite. Overall the food is good and service as well, but if you want to cool down during summer I don't suggest coming to eat teppan here. We just got back from an expensive and horrible lunch experience. After waiting 30 minutes for our food ( apparently you order teppan from the menu and they cook it in the back now) we were brought out cold food, not Luke warm, cold food. When we stated that the food was cold and we wouldn't be eating it the waitress took our plates back, apologized and said they would make new plates. 25 minutes later they brought our plates back, same food recooked ...tasted like rubber. We were pleasant and asked to speak to manager who made us wait another 10 minutes only to tell us that we were mistaken. No apology, no discount, just a waste of an hour and half, uneaten food and a lot of money. We will never return here, nor will we recommend it to anyone. read more

Food looks pretty in pictures, but no flavor. We ordered FSU Roll and Hot Mama. The only taste was the white rice. Hot Mama wasn't even warm. We are from Cupertino. Capital of Susi. They blender their tuna at this place... Who does that? Make your food with a kick, and there will be a line out the door. Not a huge variety of sushi rolls but they make everything very well. New spot for sushi and drinks on the weekends. In the flood of japanese tempanyaki places, this place has made a great mark. Kuni sama is a place that surprised me and made me find a new place to call my go to. First thing is always the cleanliness, this establishment is very clean, and it looks fantastic. The customer service is very good, with wait staff very pleasant and helpful as well as knowledgeable. The bar tender Eddie will help you choose your adult beverage of choice if you're new to the Asian liquor scene. Prices are cheaper than most places as well. Lunch specials are 10$ for new York steak, chicken, and shrimp. And of course...the food. I've been to most of the tempanyaki place in town and this one tops the chart. Food cooked perfectly every time, with great seasoning. The dipping sauces are fantastic. And they add bacon to the fried rice...how can you go wrong? It was pretty disappointing. Everything came in like miniature sizes. Spicy tuna roll barely had any tuna in it. It was mainly rice. Spam musubi was disgusting, the spam was burnt. I've been to most, if not all, teppanyaki places in the Fresno/Clovis area, and this place has become my new favorite. I don't know what they are putting on their food beyond the normal butter, garlic powder, and pepper, but the flavor is amazing! I had the filet and calamari with fried rice. First of all, the miso soup was delicious, and they put won ton strips and mandarin oranges in their salad which add a nice touch. The veggies were the best at any teppanyaki place I've had. The shrimp and calamari were both cooked perfectly, and they paired well with the ginger and mustard sauces. The filet was cooked perfectly to order, and their beer menu is far superior to any other teppanyaki place. The customer service was outstanding. The chef, waiter, hostess, and bus boy were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys teppanyaki! read more

Here I am, back with another negative review. I think everyone knows by now that most people only write reviews when they have something bad to say. While I will find more places to write positive reviews about, I hope you understand I am always serious about what I review. I've been to this place a handful of times and I have to say, other than the extremely delicious baked mussels, and mediocre sushi, all their food is AWFUL. It's uncanny how bad everything I've had here is. The teppanyaki is just mediocre and didn't have any good sauces. The serving staff is nice though but I just have to say how utterly terrible the food is here. I would literally go back here just for the baked mussels though, they truly are amazing. I love sushi but this place disappointed me. For a place that has sushi right under their name they had very little options. The chairs they provided as seating were very uncomfortable and the service was terrible. The girls were rude and it took way to long to get our food. My miso soup was so salty it was cringe worthy. They served it in a bowl that looked like you would give a child. I half expected to see a Disney princess at the bottom. 2 of our three people in our party got their food but my mother had to sit there waiting without even a comforting, "your food will be right out." Don't know if this was an off night, but unlike past experiences, this time was horrible. We got seated and our server Mathew (who was very nice) asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for a beer menu. A few minutes later, he brings the non alcoholic drinks, then takes our order. No beer menu. He brings the miso soup. After dropping off the salad, I remind him of the beer menu. He runs off like Barry from the Goldberg's, which was funny, brings the menu and leaves. A few minutes later, the chef comes out and starts his thing. I am now pretty irritated and am discussing this with the other couple there. He knows our server from school, so when he comes back out, asks him for the beer menu. He grabs it from next to me and hands it to him, completely oblivious that he still hasn't asked us what we wanted. At that point, I ask if he is ever going to take our beer order. He tried to joke that "we need to speak up if we want something." I thought "well maybe you should act like a server." We order beer. Of course they are out of what I wanted, so I give up. With respect to our chef, he made good tasting food, but didn't entertain at all other than a quick fire volcano. The chef at the other table with the bandana and braces was putting on the show of the century, while ours did next to nothing. If you're going to pay extra for a show, you should get a show. After dinner, several of us got up to grab a "to go" box. After we had ALL put our food in the boxes, Matthew came out with boxes. Absolutely stunning! I ordered x2 California rolls to go via uber eats, and when they arrived the presentation was gorgeous! Taste wise, it was pretty average for a California roll BUT I will most certainly be making another order in the future, and hopefully make a trip to the restaurant myself. First impression: the atmosphere is nice, although when we walked in the hostess looked at us as if to question what we were doing there. She was hesitant to seat us for some reason, but it was quick seating. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and our sushi rolls came out quickly. Now for the food. I ordered the Booty Booty roll and fish ball (which is basically a fish meatball). My husband ordered the Holy Moly roll and gyoza. The gyoza was good. The fish ball was okay. The rolls were good. Overall it was not bad, and left us full yet unsatisfied. I had difficulty consuming my roll because of the sheer size of the pieces. I don't like taking more than two bites to eat a piece, as it tends to fall apart. This is exactly what happened. I wasn't pleased with having to use my fork to eat my sushi. My husband's and my biggest complaint was that the food was BLAND. It looked nice, but was very lackluster in flavor. This seems to be sushi for people who don't like sushi. If we come come here again, it would be to try the teppanyaki and definitely not to eat the sushi. read more

I have visited KuniSama multiple times in the past couple of years. Typically I would sit at the teppanyaki table, but now that they don't offer it we decided to sit at the regular table and order off the teppanyaki menu. The portions were a good size for the trio plate, but I was extremely disappointed in the lack of flavor in the food.
