Kunjip Tofu is a an upscale Korean restaurant that is known for its soft tofu soups. The interior of the restaurant is very modern, and lends to a vibe of sophistication. The wagyu gopchang tofu soup was well seasoned and tasty, and every single banchan dish that they had was amazing! Servers come around to refill your banchan, which is all you can eat. Definitely a place to try if you're craving Korean!

I have been going to the original Kunjip in Santa Clara for a while; it's my go-to spot for a homey korean meal and the best galbijim and naengmyeon in town in my opinion. I wanted to give this place a try as I heard it's pretty different and a bit more upscale. No reservation system, however you can Yelp wait list. If you aren't within Yelp waitlist proximity, you can call them and they will add you to the wait list about an hour beforehand. Once you get there, it's about another 5-15 min wait. I took my parents and sister here for a family dinner when I was in town. Each person has to order one entree, and you get your own set of many little banchans. At first glance it seems pricy, but every entree we ordered was delicious. The banchan were also so good and well prepared - none of them were overly salty or fermented. We all agreed this was an excellent experience, and it is so rare that all 4 of us are on the same page about any 1 restaurant. They were also very good about periodically coming by with all banchan to let you choose which ones each person wanted to refill. We got wagyu bulgogi bibimbap, wagyu galbijim, seafood tofu soup, and spicy octopus bibimbap. The wagyu galbijim was extremely flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. Seafood tofu soup had large chunks of seafood. It is not the same style as a home-styled soondubu, but it is more similar to 10 Butcher's style. Surprisingly, the spicy octopus was very tender and had large tender chunks as well. The wagyu bulgogi was flavorful without being too salty. We also got a seafood pancake to share, and each bite was so full of seafood and barely any starchy filler. They also end your meal with a palette cleanser of a jujube rice cake.

My friends and I had dinner at Kunjip on a Saturday night with a reservation. I highly recommend making a reservation as this place gets busy around dinner time. There were so much good options but I was still very full from lunch so didn't want anything too heavy so I opted for the mackerel set that came with doenjang soup, purple rice, and a assortment of banchans! I like that someone comes around to refill your banchans. They are unlimited refills so eat away! The mackerel was grilled to perfection and I loved it so much that they gave you wasabi on the side. It helped cut the greasiness! Afterwards, they give you a little dessert but I wasn't a fan of it. Next time, I do want to try their galbi Jim or soups!

I understand the hype now and the hype is real! After hiking with one of my gfs, she suggested grabbing lunch here since its one of her current favorite Korean restaurant. She mentioned the only thing is that we need to get there right when the restaurant opens which is 11AM or we will most likely have to wait for 1.5hrs. So we cut our hike short and was the second party in-line. I wanted to try everything on that menu but decided on the mixed tofu soup + braised kalbijim. I like our entrees but the star of the show is definitely the ban chan. They had this one particular radish that I couldn't get enough of, I would go back just for the ban chan. I had many tofu soups in my life but the one of here is so different. It's not homey but just very elevated. Actually, all their dishes were elevated. The kalbijim cuts of meats were super tender and well worth the price. We also order the shrimp kimbap to go and that was also amazing. I will definitely come back to try this place but maybe with a few more friends so we can order a variety of dishes.

My wife and I stopped by Kunjip Tofu for lunch on a Saturday and we showed up exactly when they opened at 11:00 a.m. There was a long line outside, but we were fortunate enough that we were able to make first seating. After getting seated, we were promptly greeted and offered either complementary hot tea or water. If you're not familiar with the menu here, each person is required to order their own entree, most of which start around $28. My wife ordered a mild tofu soup with mixed proteins while I ordered an abalone bibimbap. In addition to our entrees, we also split a seafood pancake. I'm not the biggest fan of seafood pancake, but the one here is distinctly different than any that I've ever tried before. The texture of the pancake actually tastes very similar to shrimp toast. There's no shortage of seafood in every bite and the pancake is perfectly crispy without tasting oily. The pancake here is on the smaller side, but one pancake is more than enough for a group of 2-3 to share. The abalone in my bibimbap entree is skillfully prepared. There was no rubbery texture at all and the four abalone pieces were all very plump. The stone bowl the bibimbap arrived in wasn't blistering hot, but the bowl still managed to crisp up a bunch of rice on the bottom of the bowl. I appreciate that the spicy sauce is provided on the side so you can control how spiciness and salty the dish is. I absolutely love that each entree comes with an assortment of 10 different types of banchans. My favorites were the imitation crab slaw, the quail eggs, the shrimp cake, and the pumpkin puree with apple chunks. There's a staff member carting around refills of every single banchan, so don't hold back on enjoying your favorite banchan items because they come with unlimited refills. While the food here was fantastic all around, the highlight was truly the service. The warm hospitality of each staff member we interacted with was memorable and greatly appreciated. Special shout-out to Jinny as well, who helped us quickly resolve a small issue where we received white rice instead of purple rice with our tofu soup. If you're looking for next level Korean food with spectacular service, look no further than Kunjip Tofu. I cannot recommend this spot enough.

The beef bulgogi was so good! The meat was flavorful, tender, and came out sizzling. I also loved how many different banchan (side dishes) they give you-it was fun getting to try a little bit of everything, and everything paired really well with the bulgogi. Definitely recommend coming here for Korean food, but just a heads up that the wait can get pretty long at night, especially during dinner hours. Worth the wait though!

This Korean spot is definitely on the pricier side, but I have to say, the food is good! Service is attentive, and they keep the banchan coming. One thing I really liked is that everyone gets their own set of banchan, so there's no need to fight over the good stuff . The Wagyu galbi was tender and flavorful, the bibimbap had a nice crispy crust on the bottom, and the tofu soup was flavorful without being overly heavy. The braised oxtail was also really good -- the meat practically fell right off the bones. They also have sikhye, but it's $10 a bottle. I guess the glass bottle is worth something? My only complaints are the price and the fact that, for a fancier Korean restaurant, they keep rolling out a big cart to collect dirty dishes. It feels a little out of place with the otherwise upscale atmosphere. Overall, definitely a splurge, but the food and attentive service make it a good option for a nicer Korean meal.

Good but hard to say if is worth the wait if you have to wait longer than 30/40 mins. I believe the avg wait can get pretty long on weekends. Luckily I got there for an early dinner like 5pm and was seated in about 20 mins. All the entree come with their own unlimited banchan and it's kinda plated individual style instead of family style though you can just share Food- Snow crab twigim: this is basically a fried crab leg. Def real crab. It was good. Japchae: small portion but tasty. They use like a wider flat noodle which I found interesting. The taste was basically the same as regular japchae but with a little elevation such as the nori as well. Wagyu galbi: was def tasty. Par for the course at premium kbbq restaurants A5 tofu soup: good and the beef quality is def better than what you find at most tofu soup spots but a5? I low-key feel it wasn't all that tender. Not sure I'd get this again Wagyu beef bulgogi bibimbap: solid bibimbap. The rice was crispy. It was good but I prob wouldn't get again mainly just due to I feel there were better dishes Seafood pancake: this was an interesting take on the seafood pancake. It kinda tastes like those shrimp cakes except there's other seafood in it as well but the main part is the shrimp cake. Was good and fairly interesting. Would def recommend at least trying once Overall, food was solid but dunno if I'd go all the way from San Jose and wait 40+ mins etc tho I wouldn't mind eating again if I was in the area

Bottom line: upscale, fancier versions of some of your K favs, FLAMEY galbi. Vibez: located off El Camino, just outside downtown Lou rain view towards Los Altos, sits the shop with its own parking lot. Chic decor and seating arrangement, mostly booths but some can accommodate large groups. Service was excellent, had no issue getting banchan refills. Service was so good, I'd come back because they made it feel so easy to enjoy the food. Bathroom: men's: notably, classy electronic music played that wasn't in the restaurant. Made it enjoyable to visit. Clean. Only had a hand dryer. Seafood pancake: you know what I liked, it wasn't a giant thing. It was tasty, three bites a piece, four pieces total. Crispy, flavorful, nearly FLAMEY. Galbi: it was expensive, but each bite was FLAMEY. Fatty goodness, tender melty, sweet and a little salty. Great with the lettuce wrap. And you know what, they refilled it every time the lettuce ran out.

Worth the price tag! Kunjip is definitely a more expensive Korean restaurant for the area but the service, the ambiance and the food quality makes the price worth it. We ordered the Japchae, spicy octopus bibimap, a mixed tofu soup and the grilled spicy pork. Everything was very well seasoned and came out very quickly. The kimbap was very delicious and colorful. They have a cart that comes around to replenish your kimbap when you run out! The Japchae had a flat thicker noodle which gave the noodle more chew and held the sauce very well. We arrived at 4:30pm on a Sunday and were seated immediately. By the time we left, there were many groups waiting for a table.

Great food! Came here for a work event & they were able to accommodate all of us well. The vibes inside are very nice, and the service was great. The parking was a little tough as it is limited outside. It is also relatively difficult for vegetarians.

We ordered take out via door dash. Everything was well packed and delicious. Seafood pancake -- probably the best I've had. There's a layer of crunch that is unbelievable. Fried crab -- so delicate and delicious. Waygu Galbi -- Omg ! So good! Waygu bugolgi -- also yummy Bibimbap-- love the mixture of rice and vegetables . The banchan came in perfect packaged boxes.

This place has such an incredible reputation and the food really is solid, but I think you can find better for cheaper elsewhere in the Bay. The tofu soup is packed with flavor and umami. We ordered the snow crab tofu soup and it was filled with tender seafood. The kalbi jjim wasn't great though. The sauce had too much of a mole-like taste and texture to it. I much prefer the kalbi jjim at Daeho. The bonchon dishes are where this restaurant really stands out. I think they may be the best in the Bay. You get a huge variety and each is beautifully and deliciously prepared. They also do a wonderful job of constantly replenishing dishes that you finish. Speaking of which, the service here is phenomenal. The setting is also upscale and super classy.

Do you have some dishes are gluten free?

Best to ask the person serving you. They know the menu.

Is it a good idea and any space for 6 adults and 5 toddlers to dine in?

Yes, tables were large and there were big groups with children when we visited. Seemed family friendly but that could be because we visited for lunch hours. They do have alcohol on their menu so if bringing children, I'd advise lunch time or early…

    Do you take reservation?

    They have yelp waitlist.

Do you have seating for eight people?

    Their largest booth fits 8.

Are their tables also or just booths? Due to a disability I can not sit in a booth.

Hi, Most of the seating are booth. But there are few that allow you to add or stay in the wheel…

    Do you open on Thanksgiving?

We will be closed on Thanksgiving 2024, and reopen on the following day on Friday.

Can I bring my own wine? If so then what is the corkage fee?

Hello yes you certainly can! As of now during soft opening, it is $25 corkage fee, but price is subject to change later on. Thank you!

Do they take reservations for lunch on weekdays?

Yes, but it depends on how many people in the parties

Is the mushroom tofu soup vegetarian?

Hello, yes it is—it is also served with its own separate set of vegetarian banchan (side dishes), if requested. We also have various vegetarian friendly options including Kunjip tofu, mushroom jeon, tofu bibimbap, and mushroom bibimbap. Thank you!

When is it going to open?

Hi thank you kindly for your interest. As of today (9/1/24), there is no official soft opening date; however, we expect to open on the week of 9/9. It will be updated on our Yelp page once the official date is determined, so please check back! Thank…

I got the veggie dumpling tofu soup at medium spice and it was amazingly flavorful. The soups come out PIPING HOT, the bowls were still sizzling when we got them, and I definitely burned my tongue and the roof of my mouth even after blowing on my spoon for what I thought was a long time. The veggie dumplings inside the soup were also really good, I actually thought for a second when I first took a bite they had accidentally given me meat ones, but I'm pretty sure it was just tofu with a surprisingly meatlike texture. The menu is very vegetarian/vegan friendly, the vegetarian dishes are clearly labelled, and I believe all the vegetarian tofu soups are vegan as long as you don't add egg. Most of the banchan is vegan, except for the kimchi and fish tofu. The banchan I did get to try (cucumber, bean sprout, japchae, potato) were all really good with very distinctive flavors. Meal also comes with purple rice which I enjoyed. The menu is also very kid friendly, my little sister loved the fish tofu soup. The inside is very large and they also have outdoor seating as well. On the wall they have a menu signed by RM of BTS, who I guess came to eat here during the Stanford stop of the tour. In terms of service our main waiter seemed to be in a bit of a bad mood and was not super friendly, but he got the job done lol. However there was a different girl who brought us our banchan and she was really really nice. Overall I would highly recommend!

In college, I met many Koreans and befriended some of them and they introduced me to Korean food and more specifically Korean BBQ. In the late 90's and early 2000's, a night of clubbing and drinking would invariably lead us to Koreatown in Mid-Town Manhattan where many KBBQ restaurants were open late into the wee hours of the night and early morning. There my love for Korean BBQ was born, bred, and grew. We've tried many KBBQ spots across the country since then. Some really fancy, some hole in the walls, and tasty, plentiful, and varied banchan and fresh tasty meats were the essential components of a good KBBQ. At 10 Butchers, the food is right up there with some of the best we've had-ever! The banchan is fresh and diverse and the meats are of excellent quality. But what really sets this place apart is the service and ambiance. First, to get a reservation, you have to request one. 10 Butchers will review your request and get back to you with an answer. This is very different and more onerous than just booking a table on Resy, Tock, or OpenTable. And while it can be a bit challenging, when you finally get a reservation, it feels like an invitation to a special event-which it is! Given your table size, you will also be given a time limit. When you see how packed the place is every day of just about every hour, you'll know why. Many come here to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or just to have a special night out. They have semi-private rooms and large tables for bigger groups, as well as booths and intimate tables for couples. I would suggest not filling up on appetizers, we just typically get the Nakji Pajeon (seafood pancake), so you can focus on the star of the show, the meats. As the name suggests and the window to the kitchen shows, this place has some of the best meat around, beautifully marbled and wonderfully presented. The meats are also expertly cooked by the staff to your liking, and the grill is changed every time a new meat is cooked. We particularly like the Wagyu beef tongue, Wagyu brisket, Wagyu chuck flap, pork jowls, and of course the prime bone-in short rib. We also ask for lettuce and rice (additional charges) to make wraps, and the banchan is constantly being filled. Additionally, one other special thing is that unlike a lot of KBBQ places where a hood vent is above you to capture the smoke, the vents here are under the table so you don't come out of the place smelling like your dinner! The atmosphere and vibe of the place is modern but inviting. For Sunnyvale, it is a hopping restaurant reminiscent of the best spots in NY's Koreatown. Request a reservation and hopefully you'll be invited to one of the best KBBQ experiences you'll ever have!
