Glad we found this spot today! We've been coming to Portland for the past 10 years for our kids sports 3-4 times a year so I am always looking for a healthy spot to grab them a snack and drink before cheer competition and or football tournament that's light on their stomach. My daughter really enjoyed her drink she got the Berried Alive (no Goji berries) I got the Lush Life but the ginger was way to strong. So I didn't finish my drink but I still thing the drinks are great. I just know next time to say no ginger because it overpowered the drink and made my tongue feel a little funny after a few sips and my husbands as well. I tried to get him to drink it but he couldn't do the ginger either. More importantly my daughter was satisfied which is all that matters because she was the athlete that needed the drink anyways :))

    Sunnyside açaí bowl
    Renee T.

I came here with the intention of trying an açaí bowl for the first time. I was, however, too tempted by the breakfast sandwich which was delicious. I could not figure out how fake egg and cheese could taste so legit. Thankfully, my friend had the sunnyside açaí bowl which I was privy to a bite of. It was very good, exactly what I expected. Consider me a fan! Staff was very friendly too. Great spot for a quick breakfast.

    Small Sunnyside

Only give 4 stars bc of pricing. Expensive for the portions, but every time I've been here the food is always fresh and delicious. I love their açaí bowls the most, but everything is good on the menu! Limited seating but good location

Had the Vietnum and my friend had an acai bowl. Both were delicious! I love yummy, simple & healthy foods like this... Especially after a workout. Will be back

I gotta say service was really meh; shake was even worse. Tasted like milk and peanut butter and that's it. Nothing awesome about it unfortunately.

We really enjoyed our lunch at KURE today. My friend had one of their acai bowls called "bowl of the gods" and I had one of their hot bowls called "kind cartel". We both thought our food was delicious and worth ordering again. KURE serves smoothies, fresh juices, acai and hot bowls, avocado toast, soup, coffee and more! You order at the counter and your food is brought to you when its ready. The employees were pleasant and service was quick. There is seating inside as well as covered seating outside. Highly recommend a visit to KURE.

Zen master is offered at specific locations and it is the best acai bowl that Kure has! I love creaminess of the matcha and avocado together. Kid Kyoto is similar but a smoothie version. Definitely recommend even though it's pricey.

Amazing healthy but filling plant based lunch. If you don't know what tempeh is or haven't been brave enough to try it yet - run to Kure! The Kind Cartel bowl is the yummiest mix of flavors to warm you up from the inside out on a chilly day. Yum yum yum!

Super cute plant based cafe! Lots of drink and food options that range from avocado toast, acai bowls, coffee, smoothies and more. Smoothies were good but a little pricey for the size. Somewhat eco friendly with their straws but their cups are still plastic. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with a cute aesthetic, staff is friendly and I would definitely come here again!

Healthy, fresh ingredients prepared while you wait. No pre-cooked stuff here. The smoothies are thick and packed with elements that will leave you wanting more. Avocado, coconut, matcha, berries .... Hot bowls for both breakfast and lunch. I had the blueberry comfort oatmeal and I'll get it again. This is a new location but they seem to have everything dialed in. Not too long a wait. Friendly.

    Small Bowl of the Gods

Disappointed I ordered the small Gods Bowl from here and was super excited to try it after looking this place up online and moving in across the street from it but paid $9 for a bowl that looks like it was sitting on the counter and forgotten about all day :( don't believe the pictures you see online :/

Berried Alive Smoothie and ice coffee: golden hour latte and Nate's magic mocha

This place has coffee It has smoothies, of course juice hence the name juice bar, as well as lunch bowels. Their coffee is really good It has a mushroom blend in it which is supposed to be healthy but it doesn't taste like you're drinking mushrooms. The smoothies are also good as well. Expect to spend anywhere from 5 to 8 bucks here. A little spendy but consider it a treat that is also somewhat healthy for you.

These are everywhere in Portland, and thank goodness! Amazing vegan food and drinks! I had the Kind Cartel bowl which did not disappoint with a Golden Mushroom Elixir- sooooo good! Staff was kind and answered all questions- this place is busy but they kept the flow moving! Be sure to check them out!

Late afternoon visit, so the hipster crowd had clearly skateboarded back to their respective creative labs. I had the place to myself. Prime auditing conditions. First impression? This place is built for volume. You can tell. Efficient layout. Assembly-line potential. If bowls were a factory sport, this would be a playoff team. Ordered the Home Grown. Took a quick bathroom break. Came back and -- boom -- bowl was already on the counter. FAST. And it looked elite. Then I saw it. A generous dollop of peanut butter at the top, sprinkled with hemp seeds. I almost got emotional. It felt like flying over your hometown after months away. Familiar. Safe. Right. First bite? Delicious. Smooth. Creamy. Almost like frozen yogurt or soft serve. Easy eating. Crowd-pleasing texture. And then... I looked up. Another bowl was being made. The açaí base was coming out of a soft-serve machine. As a purist, this one hurt. I want hand-scooped. Blender-blade symphony. Crafted, not dispensed. I had a small internal crisis. everytime i have carioca bowls, i fall in love with portland even more. the quintessential açai…read morebowl is done with such craft and intentionality here that i can unequivocally say this is the best spot for an açai bowl -- at least in the states and that i know of; though someday i will have to go on an adventure to Brazil, which is where carioca stems from. the açai here is not the sugary type but the real stuff. high quality, fresh ingredients, too. my go-to is the rose city bowl (rio açai, honey mamas chocolate pieces (!!!!!!!), raspberries, banana, cinnamon maca, granola). yum yum! speaking of which, for this gluten free and mostly plant-based human, can we talk about the brazilian bites?!? do yourself a favor and splurge if you can -- one will not be enough. the perfect balance between pillowy and chewy textured with the (in the case of the vegan) vegan cheese ahhhh i've developed a Pavlovian response where i'm salivating. logistics -- street side parking and a cozy seating area with some brazilian beats that define the acoustic ambiance. online ordering is a thing! all in all, food for the soul, friendly folks, and an array of bowls (cold and warm) and smoothies and a breakfast sandwich and avocado toast make this the perfect place for post-workout recovery or in general, a pick-me-up, which is something we all need in today's hustle and bustle. thank you, carioca! i still miss your slabtown spot where i first found you, but i'll happily make the trek!

Ya know, it's weird that this has been in my drafts for forever. But I like this place. I like that…read morethey were down with the açaí bowl situation before it was cool (or at least, before it became de rigeur and/or spread to the damp and drippy PNW). I started chowing down on smoothie bowls in sunny southern California and the majorest of major metros like Manhattan, and it seems like it took forever for the "trend" to spread to our rainy neck of the woods. One could certainly get wheatgrass shots every which where, but smoothie bowls, not so much. ANYWAY, Carioca Bowls was leading the vanguard of delish and genuine açaí bowls in PDX long before it was an expected food variety in all hippie-ish towns in the US. Their bowls meet my exacting ingredient standards: Now that smoothie bowls have gone mainstream, many are just lightly disguised dessert with "health food" marketing: Hidden sweeteners and grody additives pushed on the unsuspecting hoi polloi ruin it for people who don't do their homework. But not Carioca Bowls: You can ACTUALLY get an unsweetened açaí bowl if that's your jam (it's mine: If I wanted dessert, I'd get a cupcake), and they don't drown the top in honey (honey has its place, and that place is far away from me), and drink in the extremely second-wave granola vibes while you're at it. Third-wave hippie food, like third-wave coffee shops, have suffered a loss of soul: Minimalist design, LED lighting, and cookie-cutter staff with vaseline smiles beckoning "welcome in!" with vacant looks in their eyes have sapped a lot of the joy from the spaces serving hippie food and matcha tea. Carioca Bowls remains a comfortingly messy, quirky callback to sincerity: Murals, houseplants, low lighting, a big messy garden-y space outdoors for sitting and chowing, organic unfussy aesthetics that make the whole scene just feel welcoming and comfy. You can eat your bowl here and not feel like you're a nuisance to the staff, or like there's a glaring spotlight on you (unlike SOME smoothie/juice/bowl places I could mention). Nary a whiff of extruded white plastic ANYWHERE in this place. It makes me feel at home, the way a wheatgrass-sniffin', long-hair-havin', big-hug-givin' hippie should feel. When I walk through the door, I feel RELAXED, ya know what I mean? Anyway, give it a try - this isn't my 'hood but I will still occasionally make a pilgrimage just to get a bowl and drink in the vibes. So if I were writing a Michelin guide (buy those tires!) I suppose I'd give this at least a star, as it's worth a special trip (IF you're into what I've described here - it's highly specific, but it's MY vibe). Anyway, long live Carioca Bowls!

Proud Mary in NE Alberta St, Portland…read more I was excited to come back home to Portland and hit up all my favorite spots in this week but I had to choose carefully because I wasn't taking on the Portland food scene alone, I'm bringing a friend with me who has never been to the city at all. I needed to set the bar high from day one. Proud Mary on Alberta Street was my first move, and it provided a light but delicious first meal paired with great espresso drinks. (And I needed to set the bar high for coffee in town because this friend own her own coffee shop in LA) This is the kind of place I bring people to when I want to show off what this city does best a casual environment with interesting food that doesn't take itself too seriously, in a space that just feels right. I went with the oatmeal and a side of hash, (a hash that has such a unique texture that I think about it pretty often now I love a unique potato eperince) but execution of the seasonal flavors in the oatmeal surprise me every time in the best way. They pay so much attention to detail of he flavor and presentation and that makes even humble dishes feel more special. My friend ordered the spring omelette and it was simple, it could have used a bit more flavor or texture or even an additional protien source but it was good non the less. When our cappuccinos arrived first, I remembered this is an Australian-owned café. Served with a dusting of chocolate powder the way an "apparently" proper Aussie capp should be. Both cups were genuinely excellent. For vegetarians, the menu gives you real options with actual thought behind them and of course their are so many dishes with meat that everyone can love, so that's a huge win for me Who it's for: first-time Portland visitors, coffee lovers, anyone who wants a brunch spot that earns its reputation. Strong start to any trip. Veg selection | Flavor execution | Value | Staff knowledge | Ambiance
