I wish more people left honest reviews about the actual food and not about the service. So this review goes out to everyone that's curious about how the actual food tasted. TL;DR: Not Authentic and mediocre at best. Let's start with the miso soup. The soup itself was extremely watery and was obviously made from instant ingredients and not actually made in-house. The tofu was too small and too few and the seaweed was non-existent. I wouldn't care if it was instant miso if it actually tasted anything like miso. This soup made me question what real miso actually tasted like. The tempura left much to be desired as the ingredients used were neither authentic nor fully cooked. It felt like the chef grabbed a random bag of American mixed vegetables and threw them in a deep fryer. Broccoli and carrot tempura? Weird. Most of the vegetables were still crunchy and undercooked, but the breading was good. Let's talk about the sushi! The Nigiri: The fish was fresh enough and were actually quite delightful. The cuts were fine and the bite-sized portion sizes were perfect and authentic. Usually, sushi restaurants in America make the pieces far too big. This was not the case here. The one thing that most sushi restaurants do not get right is the actual sushi rice. The rice that was used for this sushi was normal mid-grade rice, NOT actual sushi rice. On top of it being the wrong kind of rice, there was no vinegar or flavor in the rice which did not compliment the highlight of the restaurant, the fish. To the owners, a quick google search on how to make sushi rice with proper flavor should be simple and low-cost. I would definitely visit again if this was done correctly as the fish itself was quite good. The Rolls: The rolls were great. They were drenched in sauces and flavor which made me question what the actual ingredients inside the roll tasted like. This is very common for Korean-style sushi rolls. I personally don't mind the non-authentic rolls as the sauces and wide variety of Korean and American influenced ingredients is a great compliment to the menu relative to the other, usually less flavorful, menu items typically found in Japanese restaurants. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for authentic Japanese food. If you are looking for a nice night out at a decent price point for some sushi with friends, this may be the spot. Just don't order the miso soup. read more

We ordered work lunch from Kuru-Kuru Sushi through Postmates a couple weeks ago, and though I liked my food fine, I have a feeling we won't be getting it again anytime soon. I wasn't in charge, so I don't know exactly what went down or whether Kuru-Kuru or Postmates was to blame, but our food was delayed like almost an hour because something was missing from our initial order. When it finally arrived, one of our orders had gone missing anyway. A little bit of a mess all around. My lunch came, though, and I thought it was pretty good, a $15 sushi combination with a spicy tuna hand roll and eight nigiri--tuna, two salmon, shrimp, scallop, egg, and two fish that I think were yellowtail and snapper. The quality was solidly a.o.k., not amazing but satisfying and tasty enough, and the price was reasonable. If I lived in Burbank, I might come to Kuru-Kuru now and then to get my sushi fix. I liked my lunch and I'll bet this place does a good cheesy souped up sushi roll. It's too bad it's fallen out of our delivery rotation. read more

Very bad service. Today, 9/18/2019, at 1pm, three of us sat at the sushi bar. There were three staff working the sushi bar. We waited for a long time for service, or for anybody to acknowledge our presence. I had been here in the past, three years ago, maybe longer. The service was always excellent but the staff seems to have changed as has their fish supplier, but that is a matter of personal taste so I will stick to the extremely bad service. I posted a five star review in the past. After close to an hour, only the three of us were still seated at the sushi bar, what was left of their lunch business had left. Prior to that point, one of the sushi folks had left, leaving two remaining staff. Still, the only way to get attention was to do something to attract attention. Bottom line, your service is atrocious. If you want a little more clarity on the incident, we were at the corner where the two longer areas meet, there were two males and one female. If that does not jog your memory, I walked to the counter by the entrance to ask for the check when nobody was paying attention to that either. The spicy tuna on crispy rice, K3 (tempura, spicy tuna, avocado roll topped with salmon and garlic flakes), miso soup, and garlic edamame are all Amazing! Wonderful little hole in the wall in a large corner mall. I didn't have any expectation, just went with friends after a hike, and what a wonderful surprise! We had the sashimi platters, the fish was perfectly cut, fresh and melted in your mouth. The k4 rolls is a perfect blend of different flavors, looks as good in the plate as it taste, other rolls were as fresh and perfectly prepared. Loved every bite. Service is attentive and friendly. I was very happy with how fast my order was delivered. It was delivered before the estimated arrival time by 10 minutes. Sushi tasted great and the spicy scallop roll wasn't overly hot. My 8 year old loved the chicken udon soup and she's picky. Driver followed my instructions that I wanted contactless delivery but waited in his car until he saw me grab it, which was appreciated. I've been to this shopping center many times and never even noticed Kuru-Kuru because of how small it is! But I'm so glad I finally found it because their sushi was delicious. My girlfriend and I were seated at the bar and were taken care of by Chef John. We ordered a few rolls and they were all very fresh and delicious. I wanted to venture out a bit so I took a look at their specials menu and ordered giant scallop sushi. The flavor was sweet and mild with a nice texture. I'm not very into very fishy cuts like salmon, so this was great for me. Their prices were very reasonable and everything was delicious. My wife and I were craving sushi and were in the neighborhood so decided to stop by since we've been here a multiple times for lunch and dinner. So on our last dinner visit i decided to order the dinner Chirashi which I had twice before this time. Once for dinner and once for lunch which both times were fantastic. Well this time around the dinner Chirashi was so disappointing. The bowl come out with 3 types of fish tuna, fishy salmon and snapper at $17.95. Compared to my lunch and dinner chirashi the last time here plus more types of fish and cheaper. This was one of the worst chirashi I ever have had. Made a stop in California going into Memorial Day weekend for my nephews graduation. Earlier that day I stopped at Kuru Kuru for some take out. They didn't have many of my favorites like Aji, Korada and Uni. However what they did have was very tasty. From the scallops to the maguro it hit the spot but what stole the show was the Toro!!!!! In my picture as you can see the toro looks amazing and was very flavorful with " umami". If you happen to be in the Burbank area stop by and check this place out. Very good staff and had a very casual attitude as they prepared sushi for waiting guests. The owner I believe was having casual conversation with a curious customer and it brought a sense of calm to a place where craft, presentation, freshness and taste are crucial to its success. Kuru-Kuru has to be my favorite Japanese spot in Burbank. I'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi, and this place's Salmon is very tasty! The rice was perfect as well. I ordered the Chirashi and a hand roll. If I had known the size of the Chirashi bowl I would have not ordered the hand roll. I'm used to getting mostly vegetables and not as much fish, but this Chirashi bowl was very generously made. The fish was all fresh and delicious. I'd definitely order it again. My friends order yellowtail collar and more salmon and they also seemed to really like it! Finally, the service was quick and prompt. We got there around 5:30 and it was not too packed, but it started getting more full around ~6:00pm, so I'd plan accordingly. I cannot wait to come back to Kuru-Kuru! I had a great night here at Kuru Kuru. They have a very affordable menu while maintaining great quality sushi! The combination box is tremendous! For like 13$ you get Miso soup, chicken Teriyaki, house salad, gyoza and a spicy tuna roll! That was awesome ! I also got the king salmon roll which is basically salmon on top of a spicy tuna roll. I've tried this place twice so far. It's good sushi but on busy days I feel like they can't keep up with the demand. So many people order and I feel like the staff gets so overwhelmed that the service can be lacking. The garlic edamame is no joke some of the best I've ever tried. The K6 is yummy but a bit mushy? Sometimes I feel like their rolls lack some structure and fall apart a bit. I noticed this also in the garlic salmon roll the K3? Flavor wise they are both still great I just think the rice wasn't as firm, thick, or tightly packed as other places. The HOT roll is a nice tempura roll but I felt there wasn't much fish in it. Wish my BF liked as he's not a big sushi fan lol Salmón skin handroll was yummy, so was the spicy salmon although it could of been spicier The staff is nice and it's good to see them busy but I can tell they were a bit unorganized and several dishes were coming to our table that we didn't order.
