My co-worker turned me on to Kuru-Kuru, we always get the K6, which also comes with this delicious sauce... every time we order it at the office we literally get this roll. However, for some reason the last three times we've ordered they've left out their signature sauce for this particular roll. Although we've had a few issues with stuff being left out, their food is great. Might just be a spot better experienced in person. read more

First restaurant I've gone to for in-person dining since the pandemic started. It was nice and quiet with not very many people at 5pm so it made eating indoors not feeling too perilous. Fresh/Delicious sushi. Price is very reasonable including alcoholic drinks compared to other sushi places in burbank area such as Yuzu, Chiba. Honestly, my three stars are being generous. The katsudon might be one of the worst iterations of the dish that I've ever had. Why have something on the menu if you aren't going to follow the basics? The eggs was overcooked, the katsu was thin and drier than a Burbank summer day. The albacore and tuna cut rolls were mediocre at best. My girlfriend commented that she'd guess it came from supermarket had she not known that it was from a restaurant. I'd say skip this place. read more

Damn good Sushi in a hole-in-the-wall joint. I wish the place was twice as large! Very busy and crowded. My sushi chef looked like a young kid (early 20s) but his skill and pace were something to behold. Very meticulous in his preparations. I was invited to join a fellow songwriter I met at my songwriting school for a quick bite before we went to the recording studio where I was to record my vocals for a demo of a new song she and her co-writer had written. We originally were going to try sushi at another place but it was closed so we headed here. Kuru-Kuru?? Pa?? LOL, "kuru-kuru-pa" in Japanese means "crazy"! Funny name for a Japanese restaurant so it was a dead giveaway that it wasn't owned by Japanese folks. I had been told that any time you see a Japanese restaurant have funny names or any English words in them such as "Rock n' Roll Sushi" or something like that, you can be sure they aren't owned/run by Japanese. If you see a "Fast and Furious Tokyo Sushi" and are looking for an authentic Japanese eatery, you'll know not to eat there ; ) But I digress. The decor of the dining area was set up like a typical Japanese restaurant with wooden tables and chairs and a sushi bar attended to by sushi chefs. The menu had a good selection of traditional Japanese plates and I hadn't had sushi in a while so I and my companion settled on the chirashi bowl which is raw fish and other things topped over a bowl of rice. I was expecting a hot wet towel to clean my hands but didn't get that. Strike one. Strike two, the miso soup that they served us was terrible. It was so tasteless that I didn't care for it. The chirashi bowl was just okay, a little on the small side. They weren't very generous with the quantity of fish in the bowl and the sushi rice was too firm as if it weren't cooked well enough. It didn't taste like they had added any mirin to it either which is typically how sushi rice is prepared. This was just plain white rice it seemed, and Jasmine rice at that. Anyways, I also requested some hot green tea to try and soothe my throat before the studio session. They actually charged us $1.50 for it which normally is complimentary with a meal at a Japanese restaurant. Strike...I don't recall now, too many to count. The chefs and serving staff were friendly and attentive but I still wouldn't consider this a go-to place for sushi if I were in the mood next time. There's so many better places in LA that I'd probably opt to eat at another place rather than coming back here again. read more

After an adventurous day throughout Los Angeles thrill seeking, I used to do something before I moved to Orange County. I would often do my SuSa or SuSu: Sushi Saturday or Sushi Sunday. With me at the heart of Hollywood, I wanted to see where the production people went to have lunch/dinner. I found a place that both served my love for sushi and my love of Hollywood. Get those chopsticks and head over to Kuru-Kuru Sushi in Burbank. Where to grab sushi?! I had no locations on my wish list or recommendations to try out. The only friend I had was my handy, dandy, Yelp App. Since I was nearby, this came up and grabbed my attention. Kuru-Kuru Sushi is located at the southwest corner of Verdugo and Hollywood Way at the shopping plaza. Its not a huge sushi restaurant, but its just right. I want to say its almost a Hole-in-the-Wall location, but apparently, its pretty popular. With its customer base mainly surrounding the studio, you'll be in a treat for what Kuru-Kuru Sushi has to offer. When I walked in, the setting is like any other sushi places. Its small and very intimate. I sat at the sushi bar and was welcomed by Sushi Chef, John. I ordered my Hot Green Tea ($1.50) right away since I was fighting a minor cold. When I opened the menu, I saw right away the interesting names of the sushi rolls. Names ranging from: Warner Bros Roll, Screen Actor's Roll, and the Director's Roll. I already had two in mind. I ordered the Caterpillar Roll ($9.95) as my second dish. My first order is something special to me: With my love of one theme park: I had to order the NBC Roll ($9.50). While Sushi Chef John was preparing my order, I had noticed one couple having an intimate dinner. I am glad I saw a little away from them. They were a cute couple, but I didn't have my significant other to join me **tears** My NBC Roll came out first. You usually don't here that on TV. NBC...coming out FIRST?! The NBC Roll is has Shrimp Tempura, with avocado, crab, and cucumber. With my mix of wasabi and soy sauce ready, I was so eager to dip in and get the food rolling. It was crunchy and very delicious. Like all NBC jokes, its run came to its end real fast. My next roll was the Caterpillar Roll. Most sushi spots carry Caterpillar Rolls. Its just Avocado on eel with and cucumber. Hmmm....just starting to realize that I have eaten eel before. When I thought it was done and over, I was staring at the TV and listening, not just to the couple, but the other guests who love their dining experience. I had to order one more dish. I made a poor decision. Not ordering another dish, but not ordering a special dish. I just ordered a favorite of mine: Rainbow Roll ($9.95). Its just different types of fish on top of a California Roll. One of the employees who was just getting off of his shift ordered the Walt Disney Roll ($9.50). OK, I wonder if it has Happiness packed in it. I needed some. The Walt Disney Roll is a California Roll with albacore with another albacore on top. Double the albacore. I had asked where that came from. Apparently, the people who work at the Walt Disney Company suggested it to be on their menu. Not sure if Walt Disney loved albacore. Kuru-Kuru has other specials on their chalkboard to try out if you want to venture on something else. I wonder if Kuru-Kuru is open to other networks on their menu...Especially a red head who hosts a late night?! I'm totally in love with the salmon sashimi with truffle oil here. It is two of my favorite things conflated into a glorious magical delicate taste extravaganza. So for that alone, I will probably be coming here as much as I can afford. Yes the crispy rice spicy tuna is good, nice plating, and I like the little jalapeño shaving on top) yes they have nice fresh fish offerings (I like the oysters, yum) but I cannot get over the simplistic beauty of a long plate of gorgeous raw salmon elegantly seasoned. I feel confident all other dishes will be adequate as well, they aren't messing around here. I would post a pic, but could not possibly wait long enough. read more

first of all I ordered two rolls one the crab and shrimp Roll which I saw no shrimp in but instead salmon on it? UHM ...... is it just me or does that make sense to anyone else. and the salmon was at room temp. not cold which makes me wonder if it's safe to eat fish here how do they keep their fish stored. the other the Lobster roll. My lobster was not what I was expecting the crawfish they call lobster is battered and deep fried over california roll that is not evenly cut you have some large pieces some skinny pieces (bad knife skills from the sushi chef) and then with too much drizzle of mayo and a little so little of eel sauce. so when you eat it it taste so heavy, hot and greasy. So not what I wanted. I have had lobster rolls before never fried though. and the extra fat and calories are so not necessary. and I am not a health freak I love to eat. It was a hot day and I really wanted something that felt light on the palate yet filling and cool and refreshing. Instead I got hot raw salmon and fried crawfish so heavy not refreshing, not good! But if you are in the mood for fatty heavy roll then it would be good, I guess it wasn't terrible just not what I wanted and perhaps it should say on the menu that it's fried cause other places don't serve it this way. read more

This was my second visit, and OMG this place never ceases to amaze me! I've been to almost every well-known sushi joint in the Los Angeles area, and believe me Kuru Kuru is a solid five-star sushi joint where you just can't go wrong for high quality sushi. The sushi neta (fish) was as fresh as it can get (by that I mean you'll probably get the same quality fish in other highly rated sushi joints if the fish is caught near the U.S.). And their sheri (rice) tasted awesome. Although it's been a while since my last visit, John, the sushi chef, remembered exactly what I enjoyed last time. He prepared authentic Edo style sushi back then, but this time around he put a little twist on those classic sushi items and made them even better! Hirame sushi came with white rock salt sprinkled on top and it made the white fish tastes very sweet (I mean literally salt makes white fish tastes sweet). He put a little bit of ground onion on top of Sake sushi which made it also sweet but in a very different way. It went well with the fatty taste of salmon belly and I was blown away by the rich taste in my mouth! Bonito sushi came with a slice of fried garlic on top with special ponzu sauce. It was amazing. The idea was so original and It's one of the things that you won't find anywhere else. He also prepared a gunkan sushi with diced ika (squid), uni(sea urchin), and ikura(salmon roe). I instantly remembered that this was similar to they way they put uni on top of Ika sushi in Japan/Korea. And I got it right. John told me that he learned it from his Japanese sushi master during his apprentice years. I'm really happy that I've found this beautiful gem in Burbank. Originally my plan was to go Cho Cho San in Encino but due to time constraint I looked up a place in Burbank where my friend lives. He said he had gone a while ago and that the sushi was good. We sat at the bar and it was challenging getting the attention of the chef. The very friendly waitress on the other hand was available quickly and brought us our drinks quickly. Kuru kuru was definitely not mind blowing. I had a spicy salmon hand roll and a rice crispy with spicy salmon. Asking custom rolls might not have been a great idea after all. They make spicy salmon like they make spicy tuna, same spices, Chinese garlic chili paste, no sesame oil, radish sprouts which I think works well with tuna but not salmon, avocado I believe would be a better choice. The salmon was so chopped up, it had the consistency of mashed potatoes you would find in a nursing home where everyone's packing a denture. Some people use mayo and sriracha which is fine. The crispy rice wasn't very crispy, a very pale imitation of Cho Cho San's specially. I'm guessing none of the chefs there are Japanese or were trained by a Japanese sushi chef. We thought about ordering a last hand roll but our chef was nowhere to be since for what seemed like 30 min. Cigarette or diarrhea break, who knows? We will most definitely never come back to Kuru Kuru as it's sub par. read more

Gotta say that their tuna and salmon sushi melts in your mouth beautifully. Came across this place while meeting up with a friend in Burbank and it didn't disappoint at all. Well I should point out the their spicy tuna isn't spicy at all. So my friend and I went in and the place was not busy at all, mind you it is not very big, the bar holds about 12 people and there is maybe 8 tables holding anywhere from two to four people per table. Staff is very attentive. Place was clean. Ordered the following : mix sushi, came with two tuna, two salmon, two albacore, one shrimp and one yellowtail plus spicy tuna roll. King Salmon Roll K4 - albacore sushi on q spicy tuna roll. Crispy Onion Albacore Sashimi Will have to again say their tuna and salmon melt, the spicy roll isn't spicy at all, had to add Sriracha to it. King Salmon was more like a prince, pieces were not thick, thin cut really, tasted more the spicy roll then the Salmon. K4 is again a roll that had thin cut albacore over spicy tuna. Albacore Sashimi was just okay, nothing outstanding. Would have given this place average (3 stars) but with the excellent service and melt in your mouth tuna and salmon they deserve 4 stars. *their rolls fall apart, I'm not a chef but I would think this happens when its not wrapped correctly or tight... Just my opinion, will I return most likely if I meet up with my friend in Burbank. read more

I've had the Teriyaki combo plate, the miso soup lacked flavor and the Teriyaki Chicken wasn't white meat, but the black. BOO! They do get really busy during lunch time, since Walt Disney Company is right next door. So just remember to call in to see how long the wait is, or else... your LATE FOR WORK! Service was very good but that's about all that stood out. We ordered 6 different rolls, sushi and sashimi. Fish was fresh and carefully prepared but the flavors were not there. Not satisfying. Mixed sashimi and sweet shrimp were the only good plates. Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna was ok. It had too much rice and the spicy tuna was fresh but the consistency was like mousse and the spice level and sauce was weak. We were not quite satisfied with the taste of the rolls and sushi so we ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl and an Oyako donburi. Oyako was so bland. Sorry, even Yoshinoya tastes better. Great little sushi place tucked away in along a strip of stores where there is a major grocery store and lots of other businesses. If someone hadn't taken me here before, I probably wouldn't know it existed. I am a fan of all the raw stuff and will share various rolls with my pals who prefer more Americanized or cooked items. Fortunately, this place is good for both. Some places that are great for Americanized rolls are questionable on the regular sushi or sashimi, but theirs was tasty and fresh. Found this cute little spot completely by word of mouth. Since moving to a different part of town, I've been trying to find a cool sushi place I can go to. The restaurant's really small, and luckily for us, we didn't have to wait at all for a table on a Wednesday night. The menu was pretty extensive. They have lunch and dinner specials that include various sashimi and sushi. We weren't starving so we ordered the Production and Rainbow rolls as well as the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The rolls were wonderfully fresh, and sizable...a satisfying amount of food. The crispy rice came in little rolls and were much crispier than other sushi places. Kuru's great 9/10 times. There are some nights it's not it's best, I don't know if this is because of the chefs changing often. But then there are some days where it's on point! The special k2-k6 rolls are really good and not your typical rolls. The fish is fresh. The spicy tuna and albacore crispy onion are delicious. Service is quick and the chefs are very friendly! I am torn. On the one hand, the sushi does not taste fresh (none of it: the fish, the rice, etc.), the amount of smelt roe on the rolls was so pitiful that they may as well have just not bothered, and those were the worst - I mean the worst - siu mai thingies I have ever tasted (under no circumstances should you ever allow someone to convince you to order them, unless for some reason you feel compelled to test their gag reflex). On the other hand, it was that time of year so they were playing Christmas songs and made the effort to string a few lights up, which was at least a nice primer for the holiday parties we were on our way to, the rolls had cute names (well, cute for those of us who work nearby) and I guess the siu mai thingies were ordered innocently enough; I can see how they might've at least looked good on the frozen foods box cardboard panel that was taped up above our booth. I tried the miso soup (standard), spicy tuna on crispy rice (I usually love this but didn't love this one), shrimp shumai (this was a delish appetizer), the Marilyn roll (yum), spicy tuna roll (great), and another roll that I can't remember the name of which was topped with popcorn shrimp that was great.
