Yodelin - Yodelin bowl with cod, DELICIOUS!

We reached our AirBnB in Port Angeles for our Discovery Trail trip before sailing to Victoria and…read morecalled a friend for dinner recommendations. She offered up Yodelin and we showed up. We were able to get a table outdoors after the rain ended. The staff were very friendly and prompt. I deviated from everyone else and grabbed a fish sandwich while they opted for a variety of the bone broth soups. We started with some grilled Hama Hama oysters with BBQ caramelized onions. They were very good. We chased that with some drinks. Food service was fast and friendly. Everyone loved their dishes and drinks.

We sat near the bar and people were friendly. We started with cocktails and got the coconut and mint with rum. My husband got one with tequila and ranch water. Both cocktails were very disappointing! Mine didn't have the mint muddled and it didn't have any distinguished flavor... I also didn't taste any alcohol so I had to ask what was in it. It was very plain. The same with my husband's. Both tasted like inexpensive well drinks and no character. Wouldn't recommend the cocktails. We also got sourdough garlic bread. This was good but not worth $9. I then ordered the Moonlight soup and ordered salmon in it. Please note that all soups will not come with protein so you have to order that on the side. Mine did come with some tofu so it had protein but the addition of fresh salmon was nice. The soup was tasty. It had shiitake and miso flavoring. I was toggling between a 3 and 4 rating. I felt that since it was using Asian influences, it could at least be respectful to Asian culture (chopsticks were stuck in the soup so it can be taboo with meaning death or bad luck). I didn't particularly like that and sort of felt that these were all Asian based soups with no reference to Asian culture. It felt a little odd to me. While I enjoyed it, my husband's soup was a bit lukewarm and tasted like Thai curry soup. Tasty but not hot which is a bummer. I think the kale cooled it down. I do think the soups should be more obvious that the soups do not contain protein. This should be noted at the top not at a separate bottom section where it's labeled that you can add the additional fish to any of the soups (just have it next to the soup and salad sections instead). This seems sneaky... I had mixed experience. Staff were kind but maybe I'd check some other place out.

We had a 15-20 min wait on a busy Tuesday night but we're glad we waited! Our server was friendly and helpful with choosing cocktails because they had a to. Of unique selection. Haven't ordered more than one at a restaurant before but had to try two here! We thoroughly enjoyed our final selections of Ginny from the Block, Garden era, strawberry bourbon smash and Blackberry goose beer! For our mains we got the alaskan cod and chips and Blackened cod tacos and loved it all. They really know how to prepare tasty cod! The Alaskan cod and chips had the perfect crispy texture and my blackened cod tacos had all the flavor profiles you need. A hint of heat in the Thai chili slaw with a creamy avocado, Crema and the brightness of mango salsa and of course a touch of sour with the HOUSE made pickled red onions. Even better they let me substitute corn tortillas in for the flour. But you can't mix and match your proteins. I didn't need to because I loved both of my blackened cod tacos. The atmosphere is in the name: cozy Gastropub. They have a plethora of beers on tap, but parking is solely on the street so a little bit more challenging than picking your beer but I don't think it would be too challenging if you're up for a small walk. We were able to walk from our Airbnb, so didn't have to figure that part out. Pretty sure it was farther than any walk you might have to do for parking!

The food itself was a little underwhelming and overpriced for what it was. The roast beef on the pub dip was not fresh and lacked flavor. My fiancé took a couple bites and couldn't finish. The blackened cod tacos were fine but also lacked flavor and seemed more corn and onion than fish. I would recommend the poutine fries and clam chowder.

But then we were sat in the enclosed party area with two other tables, and not that it was the restaurant's fault but there were screaming children and the enclosed area just echoed everything. We thought to ask to move, and we should have. So note that if you get sat there. Our server was a sweet girl, took our order after grabbing us drinks and checked in to make sure we had everything. The main issue I had was the taste of the food since some dishes were a bit pricey. Three in our party ordered the fish and chips, that they all said was really bland and nothing special but the fries were crisp and good. My husband and I ordered the grilled Tiger Shrimp entree and the Salmon Fettuccine Alfredo. The shrimp were rubbery and tasted like that had been under the warm lamp for a bit. And I wish they would have side substitutions since the grilled veg was a squash zucchini mix with rice but it all had no flavor. The Salmon Alfredo was kinda the same. Bland and dry fish, but at least a good portion. But the sauce was broken and stringy, needing seasoning as well. My husband and I's ticket with sodas and one cup of pretty good clam chowder came to around $90 before tip. Needless to say we were disappointed with our first seafood experience since traveling from Arizona.

Definitely ask for some Cajun Aioli on the side. The crispy panko batter made it the best fish and chip the entire trip. Shrimp has the strongest seasoning which I loved, both fish and shrimp were tender, and the half crab was a good amount and even though cold, it was great dunked in warm butter or the garlic butter. My husband and I split this, added a fish fillet, and it was plenty. The area was clean and warmed by fire barrels. Huge plus for the clean blankets they let you use since the breeze can be pretty chilly sitting outside. And you just put it in the used basket when done. 10/10 better value and taste compared to Down riggers upstairs. We went there our first pass through Port Angeles and had wished we went here instead!

Not too busy on Sat night. Mostly bar type fare. Was out of oysters and something else, so didn't get to try that. 1. Cod (Rockcod) fish tacos - tasty but very wet/messy. (4/5) 2. I read some of the bad reviews and was confused since the host and waitress were pretty attentive. It was a Monday night so it was just those 2 workers. We got sad down as soon as we came in and got our food no more than 10 months after ordering. We had no problems.
