They have a wide variety of gourmet small plates at reasonable prices. If you can make it over during their happy hour, which is literally an hour (4:30-5:30pm), you can get select plates and drinks for $5 AND if you order a cocktail (and why wouldn't you? p.s. their mojitos are yum) you can get any entree for half off! Minus half a star for an absurd happy hour time. This place makes for a good date night because of its intimate seating and dim lighting. There is a rooftop bar but it is operated separately from this restaurant and has its own rules for reserving tables from what I was told. A bit disappointing since so many reviews mention the awesome rooftop view. As for the food, it's amazing! The Hawaiian Ahi Poke, Chicken Empanadas and the Caprese Skewers are all winners. The Seared Filet Mignon Tips were cooked well but I didn't like the horseradish sauce. The Lobster Truffle Risotto was creamy, truffly goodness! Don't expect huge chunks of lobster, the truffle flavor is what takes the stage and I loved it. The Hibachi Salmon is also a great choice if you like sweet and savory. I came here for my birthday and although they didn't do anything special based on our reservation details, they did offer dessert on the house once we told our server. If you have room for dessert, you must try the Flourless Chocolate Cake w/ Raspberry Ice Cream! It's not too sweet or heavy, it was the perfect ending. Loved the tater tots and the salmon was good too. Drinks were decent. Another surprise was how inexpensive all the food and drinks were for 2 people. The seats by the open doors give you a chance to watch people and cars while you enjoy the tapas. Friendly staff and prompt service. I love their sangria. Tastes delicious. Truffle-Parmesan Fries- These came with herbed aioli sauce and WOW they are SO good. I couldn't stop eating them and I don't ever eat fries ! We all loved these so much that we had ended up ordering more ! MUST ORDER ! Hawaiian AHI Poke- The poke was fresh, i like poke a lot and find the need to always order it. Grilled Chicken Breast- It was served with asparagus, brown rice pilaf, and line-caper sauce. This is a healthy dish and the chicken does lack a little flavor but the rice pilaf is really tasteful! Herb Risotto- white wine, parmesan cheese, truffle My mom had ordered this and liked it but thought it needed a bit more flavor to it! It's a heavy dish and they do give a big portion of it. K'ya is amazing. Every time I have out of town guests, I make a reservation here. They have the best happy hour. From 5-6 you get $6 drinks and half of any one plate with each drink purchase. Their menu changes from time to time. The last time I was here I had their lobster Mac and would be totally fine only eating that for the rest of my life. Brussels are amazing. Fondue. Duck. Came here for OC restaurant week, it was $20 for a 3 course meal including a glass of wine (can't go wrong with that right??). The food was delicious and the ambiance was very romantic. Great place for a date or dinner with the girls. Only downside is that some of the tables may be too close to each other and it feels over crowded, like you are in other people's business. We were first seated in the middle of the room and my chair was bumped into every 5 minutes as the servers walked through to wait on the table next to us. Good thing they were trying to put a big party together so they asked if they could move us. We ended up sitting next to the window, which was perfect and romantic. My meal selection was the ahi poke as a starter: very delicious!!! The tuna was very fresh and it was served with wonton chips (YUMMMM-O). My main course was the Lobster truffle risotto: 1st time ordering and trying risotto and it was very good. The lobster pieces were good sizes and the flavors were rich and the truffles hmmmmmm. For dessert, we had the bread pudding with ice cream and it had a lot of flavor. And we also had the chocolate soufflé which melted in your mouth and went great with the ice cream. We also had the Filet Mignon: it wasn't that great, a little bit on the dry side, not too much flavor. I would definitely come back to try out the other items on the menu. We've been weekly patrons of K'ya for some time now, but they changed the menu again and deleted some of our favorites. We would always start with the olive tapenade, the garlicky olive spread was so satisfyingly delicious on pita. Gone! The best entree on the menu and according to the servers, one of the most popular, was the Sea Bass served over creamy risotto. Fabulous flavor. Gone! The BBQ bacon sliders were tavern style bacon cheeseburgers in slider size drenched in a delectable bbq sauce, messy but Oh so good! Gone! My husband and I love coming to K'ya for date nights or even special occasions. We always come during happy hour when food is 50% off when you buy a drink. Everything is "tapas style plates" but you could easily eat one tapas portion on your own and feel full, they are not bite sized meals! We've tried many dishes here but they often rotate the menu so some of my favs are now gone :( I loved the spicy rigatoni, but they have steak and pork chops, and their fried chicken is so good! My husband usually gets a seafood or steak dish and we both loooove the Brussels sprouts with Gorgonzola cream sauce! You should make an early reservation to catch the happy hour special and walk down the block to see a beautiful sunset. K'ya rooftop bar was one of my favorite experiences from my past trip to Laguna. I was firm on not falling into the tourist trap on my latest visit, so I bookmarked several places on Yelp that would satisfy an afternoon happy hour. This spot was incredible! Anyhow, about my experience: We arrived at 4:30pm on Wednesday afternoon. This is the start of Happy hour. I recommend either coming early or setting up a reservation. The seats closest to the ocean is what i would recommend. My boyfriend and I got lucky enough that we were able to snag a seat in the most lovely view. It was a bit chilly so our kind server lite the furnaces for the rooftop. Service: 5/5 Our server was in charge of several different tables, but she was so attentive and always made sure we were doing alright. Happy Hour 5/5: The happy hour is so worth it! Great prices, great selection. Half price off of well cocktails, mojitos,beer, and wine. I had just the classic mojito to start w/o simple syrup. It was pretty good. Later I ordered the Hess Red blend. This is such a beautiful red blend and is only 6 dollars with happy hour prices. Happy hour is strictly drinks not off food. I came back after a couple months and I've realized it's just okay. Maybe the second time was lackluster because I ordered other items that I didn't have the previous time. Once again, I ordered the petit filet mignon (still delicious 5/5) and the truffle fries (3.5/5). I also ordered the short rib tacos which were the most disappointing part of my meal. Lots of vegetarian options, meats, seafood so theres something for everyone. The restaurant is located on the 1st floor inside a hotel near the beach. Service was friendly all around from beginning to end - from the time we made reservations, then accommodating last minute changes to our reservation so that we could enjoy the drinks/amazing ocean views on the hotel's rooftop lounge longer, to the host greeting us and getting promptly seated and meal service from our waitress. We came during Happy hour which was a real bargain - $6 cocktails, martinis, beer and 50% off each small plate for every drink. We enjoyed everything we ordered - deviled eggs, crab cakes, kale salad, risotto, blackened fish, grapefruit martini but my favorites had to be the petite filet mignon medium rare on mashed potatoes (super tender and perfectly seasoned and only $11!) , bacon-wrapped dates, pomegranate martinis, and flourless chocolate cake with cappuccino ice cream all amazing. 5 Stars easy! read more

This was for the rooftop bar. I enjoyed the view and the company. It usually gets packed during sunset hours and very hard to find a table. We should have headed down to the dining room after sunset as it did get very cold up top even with the heat lamps that surrounded the tables. We tried the ceviche (a little on the bland side) and the poke (a little on the sweet side). They were both okay. Decided to come try this place while on vacation after my Aunt recommended it to me. First piece of advice is to definitely make a reservation before you go. They are very busy and we made the mistake of trying to go around the time of their happy hour and ended up waiting about an hour. That's our fault though for thinking it would be a good idea to waltz in at 6:30 on a Friday night without a reservation. It is also extremely loud in the restaurant due to people talking and the fact it's pretty small in there so everyones voices kind of carry and mesh together. We didn't really mind the noise but there was a couple next to us who decided to leave because it was too loud and there wasn't a table available outside. Now for the important part. The food was all pretty tasty and our server Alejandra was fantastic. I love that they give you the options for small plates or full sized "sharables" and it is all decent priced. It made it easy for my friend and I to try a variety of things and not break the bank. I tried the deviled eggs, lobster chowder, short rib taco, the grilled lambchop and ended with the cheesecake. I also tried a little bit of my friends lobster mac and cheese. I love deviled eggs so I'm probably a little biased when I say those were delicious. The lobster chowder was also very good and I would definitely recommend it if you're in need of a chowder or lobster fix. The short rib taco and the cheesecake were both good but nothing too special about them to write home about. The lambchop was also very good, especially the little sauce they put on it and I'm pretty picky about my lamb. There has been a few menu changes, like I didn't see the empanadas anymore, but the selection is still good!! I made reservations on OpenTable and we were seated promptly. Our server was friendly and prompt. Food came out fairly quickly. Water was refilled. Table bussed after each course. We enjoyed all 6 dishes plus the bread pudding. I remember the bread pudding being more gooey. It was more dry and bready but was still tasty. The food here wasn't too salty either! I loved the large selection of items $10 and under. Oh we didn't try any drinks since I'm pregnant but they have a lot of options there too and 2 happy hours! The only downside is the parking! But that's common in Laguna!
