I picked a dress from Lulus online and needed hemming, sleeves and bust adjusted, waist seam hidden, the sides let out, zipper replaced, a bustle added, and the dress has 3 layers. Found Dorie on Yelp and initially had a great experience. The alterations themselves were beautiful and transformed the dress into exactly what my bride envisioned. Throughout the process, everything seemed professional, and I felt confident entrusting such an important garment to her. Unfortunately, that confidence disappeared right before the wedding. After picking up the dress, it remained in its garment bag and was not taken out again until we were preparing for wedding photos. At that point, we discovered multiple light stains throughout the dress that had not been noticed previously. With the wedding only days away, we had to rush to a dry cleaner and hope they could remove them in time. What was most disappointing was Dorie's response. Rather than showing concern or attempting to help resolve the issue, she immediately denied responsibility and stated that because the dress had been in our possession for two weeks, there was nothing she could do. There was no effort to investigate the problem, offer assistance, or acknowledge the stress this caused so close to the wedding day. While the alteration work itself was excellent, customer service, accountability, and trust are equally important when handling something as significant as a wedding dress. EDIT: Dorie keeps gaslighting me on how I lied about my original layers and not going to the location with Manager Chi (probably to take this review down), which everyone else with better reviews has mentioned so I've posted more screenshots as proof. She also keeps editing her response to avoid looking like a liar so I've attached her previous comment as well. I'm not too demanding at all. All I asked for was time, which you did not give me. I went in to get a consultation because Dorie had told me ballpark was $300. Imagine my shock when I went in and was actually priced $1100. They eventually went down to $780 after a few days, which made me wonder if the steep price was for negotiation purposes. HOWEVER, I told both Chi and Dorie I needed time to make my decision as I wanted to gauge prices of other shops and where to trust. Dorie did not respect my time and texted me almost every day, basically harassing me to make appointments and asking when I'll come in. It made me VERY uncomfortable and unnecessarily stressed. On top of this, Dorie told me the $780 deal was good till the end of October and rescinded that deal immediately the day after (less than 24 hrs) when I told her I was still trying to make my decision. All this happened in a span of a week, but it felt like a month long battle. I booked a consultation to hem and bustle my wedding dress with Dorie. When I arrived she had me put the dress on, then immediately began pinning it to hem and bustle with no conversation about what I wanted or what it would cost. When they finished pinning, they asked me to dress and then we finally discussed price. I was quoted $800 and was asked to prepay in full, in cash or check. This was not mentioned before the appointment at all. When I said I was not ready to pay today, she showed me other clients' pre-paid invoices to encourage me and let me know that this is what she asks of everyone. I ended up leaving my dress with her and had to set a time to come back and drop off the cash. I talked with my mom about what happened on my way home from the appointment, as I felt a bit uneasy about what had just happened and she agreed with me. So, I contacted Dorie to tell her I'd like to come pickup my dress to get other quotes for the alterations. I stated I could come at our already scheduled time or sooner. What followed was several days of pushback, with messages about how many brides come back to her, screenshots of 5-star reviews, offers of a discount (which was not mentioned before) a "sleep on it, relax" message, and a follow-up offering to split payment in half (which I asked about and had been told that was not an option, it was prepay only). I picked up my dress without incident, there was another bride there so Dorie's husband helped me get my gown back into the garment bag. I thought that was that but received another review screenshot two days later, at which point I blocked her number. Too much of a hard sell for me. I've since found another seamstress who did a full consultation with me discussing price and options to figure out what I liked best, and making sure I did want to go forward with her services, before putting a single pin in my gown. I fell in love with this Grace Loves Lace style (the Nathalia), but it didn't come in anything smaller than an XS and there was just all this excess fabric that bunched up around my waist and shoulders. Dorie is reachable, easygoing, and a straight shooter. Her business is at her condo, so don't be surprised when you show up. Even though it is at her condo, she does a good job at decorating it and gives clear instructions on how to find her address. My first communication with Dorie revolved around how early I should come for a consultation. She said a 3 month lead time was fine. I followed up 3 months before my wedding and made an appointment at her place. She gave me cost effective suggestions so I didn't spend too much on tailoring. Initially, I wasn't going to wear heels, but since my dress had an elaborate lace, she recommended I get 3 to 4 inch heels. She also said she can take the dress out or I can lose a little weight if I wanted to save money. Dorie is like an Asian auntie, so I didn't take offense to a comment like that, but once again, she's very candid. :) She suggested I add a bustle and hem the layers without lace, take in the dress at the chest, and add in cups. It took Dorie about 4-6 weeks to complete her alterations. When I tried on my dress, I noticed there was a slight boob gap. I took it home to try the dress with a push up bra. I was in distress but told myself I needed to speak up. I texted Dorie and sent her photos. She simply gave me another appointment, saw what I needed, and didn't charge me extra for the additional alterations. The second round of alterations took only a week. Updating my review since my wedding has passed. I have to come clean and admit that my ORIGINAL first review that I gave to Dorie back in February was 4 stars. I had listed in my original review that some of my chief complaints were (1) not being communicated with AT ALL during my dress pinning regarding any pricing or if I want to do certain alterations... they just silently pinned me without discussing if the changes were what I wanted, (2) being uncomfortable undressing in her studio with a older gentleman present and walking around in the condo, (3) lots and lots of food smells when I came to pick up my dress. The reason I changed the original review to 5 stars (and removed a bunch of negative text) was that Dorie basically spammed me the next day over text (I have the texts to prove it, and I'm hoping she does not text me again), asking me to change my review to 5 stars, in exchange for cash. I, being originally shocked at the price of the alterations, took the money because I needed to offset the cost of the alterations. In hindsight I realize this is probably why she has so many 5 star reviews -- I wonder how many other people she reached out to to change their reviews for money. So -1 star from my original 4 star review for unethical business practices. -1 more star to make my final review 2 stars. During my wedding day, the back of my dress kept shifting around throughout the day; something clearly went wrong with the alterations, because it did NOT do this when I tried on the dress off the rack. I wish I would have noticed it during the alterations fittings, but again I was uncomfortable with the whole situation. See some images from my wedding day attached -- the zipper line and slit in the back is supposed to fall in the middle. The whole evening, it kept shifting and becoming crooked, making for some sad and unusable pictures. Very disappointed that the price I paid for the alterations couldn't even result in a flawless dress for my one special day. Keeping 2 stars because my 2nd shorter dress ended up fitting okay throughout the night. Unfortunately because of these reasons above, I can't recommend Dorie to other brides. EDIT: Okay, since Dorie wants to lie and state that I demanded her money, here are some screenshots. She was the one who reached out to me first via text, she was the one who offered me money out of the blue, and she was the one who asked me to remove all the "cons" and update my review from 4 stars to 5 stars. I kindly stated for her to increase her offer since I had such a poor experience, I never "demanded" anything as you can see from my responses. Notice how her other 1-2 star reviews indicate she gaslights her customers. She can't even handle constructive criticism and will instead lie on the Yelp platform to continue bringing in innocent brides. Yes Dorie, I TOTALLY used my hand to shift my dress crooked around ALL DAY in front of all my guests, also wasting precious photography moments (which everyone knows is expensive), JUST so I could give you a 2 star on Yelp. A business with integrity would have apologized and investigate what went wrong in their process so that they could improve. Dorie literally saved my wedding! I ordered an amazing dress online, as I have had fairly good luck in the past in receiving the item exactly as pictured. I had even ordered a different wedding dress prior, and it arrived exactly as pictured, but in the wrong color. So, they sent me another one in the correct color, and let me keep the first one. When I got it back, it was absolutely how I envisioned the dress and more. It fit to my body perfectly, the train was removed and looked bustled (highly recommend doing this to avoid a train dragging all night!), and the length was absolutely perfect.
