This is a great find for something close by and authentic. My fiance ordered a breakfast burrito to-go and while we waited for that, we did some shopping for fresh produce, tortillas and carne asada to bbq at home. I also ordered a small champorrado and it blew my mind! The only reason why I'm not giving this place 5 stars is that the customer service was dry and unfriendly. They spoke primarily spanish but I'm not deducting a star for that; to me that means this place is legit. I just wish they smiled and greeted customers with a little more enthusiasm. But let's be honest, I've been back two more times so clearly the lack of customer service has not deterred me from shopping here. LOL. read more

Nice little neighborhood grocery / butcher shop / ice cream / taqueria / bakery. I have gotten food at the taqueria a couple times. It's not the best, but it is pretty good. Three stars for the taqueria food. I think I may be trying out the meat and bakery soon. They have a small produce section that appears to have some really good seasonal items. YAAAAAAAAAAAAS. Finally! A carniacera that reminds me of my childhood in LA. I happen-chance came to this market due to the carniacera in my neighborhood running out of carne asada. I know. I didn't believe this could happen. However, I'm really not complaining. It led me to my new favorite Mexican market. Upon entering the market, your instantly hit with an insatiable smell of amazing meat, tortilla, the dulce pan, etc etc.... the list could literally go on. They have a La Michoacana booth right in the front of the market. I was so happy that they did this. I went straight towards the best area : obviously I'm talking about the meat display. I ordered a pound of what looked like amazing carne from the nice gentleman behind the counter. Then, I travelled to my first destination : dulce pan. The fresh bread mixed with their sugary aspects hit my nostrils when I opened the first "drawer" for my pick. I opted for one of my all time faves. Huge looking palmier cookies. so fresh, so delicious, so sugary, so flakey. I had to have 5. They had a free check in offer so naturally, I tried to redeem. However, there is a clause. You have to buy I think it was $25 worth of meat. The nice gentleman let us know this but even offered to let me redeem it! How amazing! I decided not to, bcus I did not buy the correct amount I ended up becoming too occupied by the free check in offer and did not realize I was being ushered out by my s/o before I could get an ice cream. Overall? Carne was superbly tender and so delicious. My s/o and I practically ate the whole pound. I can't wait to come back and try the other meats they have to offer! read more

So I go to the bodega for Carne Asada and I personally know the owner and he is a man of integrity and as such I know that his produce is of the finest quality. Great values you can always get things on special but the best part about it. It's a full service store you can get ice cream that is delicious and homemade you can get the most amazing burritos and tacos there so if you're not in the mood to cook it yourself just have them do it it's the easiest thing in the world. I found this little gem of a market while searching Yelp right before Christmas. I called to order tamales and they were so busy that no one answered at the time. So I just drove there to order in person. Note- around the holidays always pre order your tamales! So I got street tacos instead for my fiancé, his parents, and myself. I also got chips, salsa, rice, and beans. Spent about $35. Not bad for all that food! When we ate a few hours later, everyone raved about the food. The tacos were outstanding. So flavorful and a great size! I'm glad I ordered too many cause it meant leftovers! Flash forward to New Year's Eve, and I had gotten smart and ordered a dozen tamales for a party I was going to. We picked up chips, salsa, and guacamole as well. They were out of house salsa, so they made some. I was so glad they did. It's amazing. The kitchen guys don't speak the best English, but they got that I was asking for house salsa and the manager (I think) helped as well with that. The tamales were a huge hit (massive tamales by the way)! I definitely prefer the beef, but the chicken was good as well. Overall, I will be back to try some more items for sure! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I ordered two "Carne Asada" burritos but, as I'm doing a Keto diet, I was planning on tossing the tortillas and eating just the Carne Asada. The description was "Carne Asada" without any other items mentioned. Unfortunately, I ordered through DoorDash so couldn't ask staff anything about the ingredients - I just took their menu at its word. The burritos arrived, and when I opened them found out that they were at 90% rice and beans, with a teeny bit of meat, cilantro and onions. Rice and beans?!? Even if I HADN'T been on Keto I wouldn't have accepted this order as I don't like rice and beans anyway, and the implication that these were "Carne Asada" burritos was fraudulent. I had to throw away the entire order and will inform my two friends who go to this rip-off joint for Tuesday tacos never to return. Talk about profit mongering.... read more

I first stumbled upon this little market for the infamous la Michoacána ice cream. After trying the authentically made ice cream and popsicles, I was immediately hooked and became a regular to the store. You can never get enough of the refreshing popsicles which range from fruity, milky, tart, to even spicy. The arroz con leche, mango con chile, and guanabana pops are a must try! The owners are extremely nice and helpful and actually took the time to explain how their meat is brought in fresh daily and how the unique thin cuts make it more flavorful. The best pollo preparado I've ever bought to grill. Place is small; decent sized meat counter with some lácteos and salsa, small selection of produce (not looking too fresh), two and half upright displays with (some of the best) pan de dulce (outside of a bakery that's just a bakery), a couple of isles of sundries. Fresh tamales in a steamer on the counter. Also, they stock El Metate's tortillas! Not as nice as picking them up warm down the street, but potentially more convenient... This place isn't going to be a stand-in for a regular grocery store (or could it?), but it's definitely got it's place. Yesterday, I picked up some pollo, salsa verde, queso fresco, and pan. As I mentioned above, the chicken was terrible. You wouldn't like it. Don't even try it... I'll be back for more of this (tomorrow); it was superb. Perfect balance of spice, chili, and citrus. Just enough onion and garlic. Chicken wasn't too thin; perfect on the grill - stayed very juicy, no foil needed. I've heard great things about their carne asada... The salsa was great, had a good kick to it. Very smooth and emulsified for a verde. Very reasonably priced (less than $2 for a pint). The roja is supposed to be goodl... The cheese was okay. El Mexicano does a decent casero. The price is better if you by 2 lbs... The breads...Wow. I'm not sure what I ordered, but, damn, were they good! Very fresh. The three that I tried were 1) -looked like a spiral sea shell . Not too dry. Creamy pudding on the inside, coarse sugar on the out. Yum. 2) a crumbly-spice-thing. Good but a little scorched on the bottom. I'll try it again. 3) -was incredible. A five inch square, a bit over an inch high. Kind of spongy-looking, glossy on top. I've tried similar things and haven't been impressed. This was moist and rich; not too floury. The first bite revealed a filling that was more egg custard than the aforementioned pudding. Well balanced richness. Wow. -will be back to try the asada, salsa roja, and tamales. Also need more of that pollo and those pan. read more

My mother in law wanted some chicken breast and Antonio suggested that We get some from the meat market and they grilled them for us - I also got some steak for my son and they grilled it. I had the camaron el Diablo as they suggested and it was so good! My other son had the enchilada de pollo and he liked it a lot. I had their salsa at a party and i was hooked. i came back for meet and more salsa for our camping trip. But i noticed the fresh produces are quite expensive for what they have. I would recommend this place for marinated taco meats and salsa. Nothing else. You should be able to find better vegetables at other super markets. read more

This place is GREAT!!!!! I highly recommend the Alpastor meat. The quality is great!!!! The cut is nice and thin. It's marinated just perfectly, not too salty, not under marinated, just perfect. I tried the boneless chicken, the carne asada and the alpastor. They are all very good, but my family's favorite was the alpastor. The carniceros are very nice and friendly, and the people working the register are always very nice and humble. I'm a very picky Mexican when it comes to my carne asada! Went in specifically for the tamales, so this rating is mainly for that. We tried the chicken, cheese and chili, and beef tamales. All tamales were huge and heavy on the masa. I know everyone has a personal preference, and personally I didn't care for the amount of masa in these but others might. Hubs had the beef and was reported back as delicious, good flavor in the filling, tender beef; would eat again. I had the cheese and chili which had a huge amount of cheese in it, about the size of a full string cheese stick! No joke. It also had a green chili slice and tomato and onion; overall was tasty but I wish the chili slice had some heat! The chicken tamale was a total disappointment- that's where I dinged them one star. Mine was basically all masa with about a tablespoon of chicken filling at one end. Not sure if I got a "defective" one but it was not enough to know if the filling was flavorful, spicy, or what. Price wise, they are very reasonable at under $2 each. I would be willing to try them again. Staff was very friendly and the store is tidy and clean. I also picked up a couple of pan dulce piggies and bolillo rolls. They were fresh and delicious. Selection of pan dulce is rather limited, but items I tried were definitely high quality. I would buy these again and will be returning to the store to check out other items. read more
