First things first, I'm definitely coming back to try the whole menu next time! My brother picked up the banh mis for dinner and I got the La ca pho mi and the steak and cheese. La ca pho mi- overall, it was okay to me. Flavor was relatively subtle in terms of trying to replicate pho in a sandwich form, and it just wasn't hitting the same as usual pho. The beef that was used definitely was as aromatic as pho, but that was almost as close as it got. However, it is a sandwich worth trying if you are curious. It was topped off with a lot of cilantro and the beef was in shredded form similar to a pulled pork. Steak and Cheese- MUST GET! I couldn't tell if it was because I was hungry or something else but this sandwich had umami on so many levels, down to the marinated beef, the cheese, and the baguette used. Jeez, it was fire. The beef was tender and really well marinated, you taste all the flavors packed into the sandwich. It appears as if there was American cheese in there, pickled carrots, and tomatoes. I personally really liked the baguette. It looked aesthetically pleasing and delicious. It did somewhat cut up the insides of my mouth but that's also with all baguettes and harder, toasted breads in general. All in all a wonderful local place to get banh mi and I'm 100% coming back. I come here for lunch and I always get the tofu bahn mi sandwich or fresh spring rolls. The tofu bahn mi sandwich is good on an in-house made soft roll. It's got the pickled carrots and cucumber, jalapeno and cilantro w/ mayo. I just wish they'd add more of the vegetables on there. The fresh spring rolls are great w/ the peanut sauce. I've had the mushroom steam buns and they're surprisingly pretty good. I love their mochi donuts too! There's always a long line during lunch, but the wait isn't too long. read more

I was looking for a quick lunch after a bike ride and was craving a bahn mi so this was my stop! It used to be a Lees Sandwiches at some point but now it's La Ca Bakery. Besides the bahn mi they also have a Mochinut donut location inside that sells donuts and rice hot dogs (kind of like a corn dog but with rice as the "bun". La Ca Bakery & Cafe shares a space with Mochinut in Hayward. This used to be Lee's Sandwiches (not sure if it is the same owners who just rebranded or not). They are kind of hidden off to the side, they have a small parking lot as well. I had tried their combination banh mi and green milk tea (regular sweetness) with honey boba. The bread for the banh mi was kind of dry and hard, and it broke apart as I was eating it. They had a good amount of protein in the banh mi, which I liked. The green milk tea was stronger in tea taste with a good creaminess to it, but I would prefer the tea taste to be a bit less strong. The boba was jellylike and too soft, and melted in my mouth. The drink had a good sweetness to it as well, so overall it was decent (minus the boba). read more

Was in the area and felt like it was a nice day for some Vietnamese coffee. The place used to be a Lee's Sandwich shop and kept the same decor. There's a cute backdrop for pics, but was in use when we were there, so check it out for yourself. We ordered the Viet Fin coffee and Mochito that was similar to the Mint Mojito from Philz. Also 3 Mochinut Donuts. They also serve Rice Hot dogs that seemed to be a hit with a lot of patrons. We would have to come back for those. Viet Fin coffee: Strong and super sweet...let the ice melt a bit and it was so delicious and satisfyingly. Mochito Coffee: my favorite. Tastes like a Mint Mojito from Philz but better, in my opinion. The Sea Salt foam brought out more flavor. I still do not like the whole mint Leaves though. Mochinut donuts: Very good. Not too sweet. Absolutely love getting coffee from here!! I always get either the Sea Cloud (F2) or the Mochito (F3)!! The mochito is so creamy and not overly sweet which I absolutely love!! The mint isn't too strong though. The sea cloud is basically the same taste, but without the mint! The dirty matcha (F4) is ok, I just wish the coffee had a stronger taste. The viet fin drip (F1) is also good!! It doesn't taste as strong as other Vietnamese coffee I've had, but it is really creamy which I like! We've tried the banh mi (the bread they use is delicious), pate choux, fresh shrimp rolls, matcha mango latte, and the iced mint Vietnamese coffee. La ca took over the Lee's sandwich that was previously at this local, so the banh mi's are definitely up to at least that standard The pork belly banh mi was very flavorful, with the carrots, jalapeño, and cilantro giving the meat and baguette roll a very nice kick. I poured a little bit of nuoc mam which amplified the taste by 100! The spring rolls were also decent, the peanut sauce being a hero as usual. The secret menu has this beef stew baguette which is basically, as you guessed it, a bowl of beef stew with a baguette to dip, but the stew is really flavorful and delicious, just wish they gave a larger portion! I knew right away this used to be the Lee's Sandwiches from the pics on here. I used to go there when I was a kid and it was the first banh mi place I tried. Happy to see it's still going. They have bottled drinks, spring rolls, and snacks at the front. However, Lee's used to have way more variety. I ordered the Mochito and the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi. And man I was in bliss. I don't know if they have pâté in them but the sauce in the Banh Mi is delicious. The coffee was also good, but I was hoping for more mint like Philz. Overall, this place is great. Very busy when I came on a Tuesday afternoon. A lady was trying to sell things with her baby out front so be warned. Accessibility wise, it was difficult to open the heavy doors as someone who uses a crutch. And I paid $16 for both things, so not the cheapest meal out there. I low key think this place has better banh mi than the ones in SJ :) their bread is crunch and super soft in the middle and they don't skimp on their fillings. I love their mayo. I also love how they have many other options besides banh mi like, Korean corn dogs, mochi donuts, and a few different types of sandwiches like tuna and steak. I was looking for a banh mi place near me that was cheaper than my area. Their banh mi's are a reasonable price ($7.50) compared to my area where it would be $10+ it's located in a small plaza with plenty of parking. I ordered online and went to pickup my order. Walking in I saw they have mochi donuts, baos, and packaged spring rolls on display. They also have Korean corn dogs! I think this is a great spot and they have a lot of craveable and instagrammable food. I got the combination banh mi and mochito coffee. The banh mi was so crispy and one of crispiest I had have. I didn't taste much of the pate or any sauce and flavor was more on the bland side but it was still good. I loved the coffee and would be a must have, it's minty, not too sweet and refreshing. Located off of Jackson/92 on Amador. It's a no frills place that offers great Bahn mi sandwiches and other tasty baked goods. Service is great and the food is affordable and delicious. This place is a hidden *gem*. The layout kind of reminds me of your typical Lee's Sandwiches so I'm not sure if they took over and renamed but loved all that they had to offer! They have mochi donuts, cheesy hotdogs AND Vietnamese sandwiches. What else can you ask for!?! Everything's here! I'm surprised this isn't a huge hangout spot as they do seem to have huge place! What I *LOVE* about this place that seems hard to find in other Vietnamese sandwich spots = THE LIGHT, AIRY, BAGUETTE! Although you do get crumbs galore as soon as you take your first bite, you find yourself finishing the entire sandwich without even realizing because it's SO GOOD! Average banh mi at best. On the pricier side. I only got the pork meatball banh mi and iced viet coffee. I added $1.50 for pate on my sandwich. When I bit into it, I realized why they have 2 versions of meatball sandwiches, original &grilled. I think the better option to get would be the grilled meatball. I usually like the hard crunchy bread where you can get cut from it, but this bread was soft and had that crunch to it. I love that they have the usual banh mis, but they also have the corn dogs & mochi donuts! As well as some small packed foods and appetizers you can pick out from the cashiers area. I ordered a 3 pack of donuts from here before & it met expectations! The first time I tried a mochi donut (from a different place outside of hayward,) I was underwhelmed. BUT the mochi donuts here were so good! Just enough sweetness despite the pretty toppings, and soft and fluffy too! I've tried their Thai tea, Vietnamese coffee, and today I tried the mochito which is the Vietnamese coffee + mint leaves and salted cream topping ! It wasn't as strong as the normal Vietnamese coffee, but it was creamy and tasty! I love how it looks too. The banh mi are good! I like the shape of their baguettes, they're slightly more fluffy and thick compared to the Lee's that used to be here. Updating since my last review - mochi donuts are amazing here! Fruity pebbles has to be my favorite. Light, bouncy, and slightly chewy - it's a texture I can appreciate. Consistency is absolutely there. Mochito (I can't remember the name) coffee: it's the sea cloud with mint. If you like Philz mint mojito coffee, this is reminiscent of it. I also opt for a grilled pork sandwich nowadays. A little more moist than the xa xiu and quite yummy. Service is always nice here, too. read more

I gotta admit that this is a premium Bahn Mi. Most Vietnamese restaurants charge $6 for a sandwich. La Ca charges almost $10. There's a significant difference in the prices. Now it really boils down to how much will you pay for quality ingredients. The highlight of the sandwich is the bread itself. It's soft and baked fresh! Korean hotdogs were pretty good and huge! Definitely worth the price! We tried almost one of each, and the kids loved the hot Cheetos dog! Mochi donuts? Yes! They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from and they are ever changing so be sure to check it out! My favorite was the Oreo but my kids love the fruity pebbles! Wow I love this banh mi shop. I used to come here when it was a Lee's. So glad I stopped by today. I ordered their cold cut combination sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, and bbq pork sandwich. I also ordered their sugar cane juice to accompany my meal. It's so clean inside. The staff are so polite and accommodating. It was kinda busy today, they had a lot of to go orders. This is a pretty legit Vietnamese cafe. I think they have low reviews since they took over the Lee's Sandwiches location. I got the banh pate sau (puff pastry with Vietnamese meatball) which was super tasty and egg rolls (I asked them to make fresh) and was pretty good. I also got mochi donuts and the hot Cheetos corn dog and both was addicting. I definitely will get again. Oh and the Vietnamese coffee was one of the best I've had and I'm Vietnamese! La Ca Bakery & Cafe takes over the Lee's Sandwich that use to be there. Hubby hasn't had Vietnamese coffee in a while, and we decided to go and get one. We got the Viet Fin Coffee and one of the pork pastry that they had. The coffee was pretty good, but in all honesty, I do like Lee's coffee better. Their pork pastry bun thing that we got was delicious! I would definitely come back to get that and try the chicken one that they have as well. The place is very spacious, which we liked, because it gives us room to keep 6 feet apart from other patrons. I'm hoping to come back soon to get more pastries and to try their Dirty Matcha, that sounds pretty good. The other drinks on the menu sounds good too!
