The inside dinning is very clean and the service is quick and very friendly. Favorite things about this place are the croquettes and breakfast it's great if you are on a budget and you can get your cuban fix lol.. The soups are also delicious they have different soups everyday with great lunch specials. This restaurant is only inside dinning but, they have an outside area so you can order a cuban coffee or in the mood for pastelitos or croquettes. (Always packed) The parking is accessible and is across the street from Town-n-country. The authentic Cuban sandwiches are Always made pressed down and toasted to a crusty perfection. Yet only in this location do they continue to microwave them making the bread bit soggy then when you try to bite into them the bread immediately is like rubber! I called today placed my order and asked 3 times to make sure they are pressed and not microwaved. Yet after I picked my order up again our sandwiches were microwaved. You couldn't get your mouth open wide enough because the bread was not pressed and toasted ugh! Guess quantity overrides quality at this location. We are regulars here and this morning what we saw was shocking. First off the seating was not social distanced by any means. Next, the gentleman cleaning tables was doing passively while wearing gloves with a dry cloth for the table tops just getting rid of crumbs. He did have some sort of spray but that did not make it on the table it was for the seats. What was most shocking is the following. I noticed this person removing dirty plates, glasses and utensils from patrons that had finished eating. With the same dirty gloves we would set tables with napkins, utensils and water glasses. He actually handed me a straw with these dirty gloves. What made this all worse is that the A/C was set sort of warm, people were coughing and all the food was being delivered from the kitchen by someone with dirty gloves. Couldn't wait to leave. You pretty much can't go wrong at any Carreta. It's you're basic Cuban food. It was pretty packed on a Saturday night, considering it was almost 9pm, but we still got seated immediately. The Palomia a la plancha is always fire. And for me personally it's pretty big, so I always take half home and have it the next day for lunch or dinner. And they give you some delicious bread while you wait for your food. Oh and their chicken noodle soup has to be the best in town. Oh my goodness. I have never had a more perfect churrasco made to my liking! First off, they served me a nice big fat thick piece of juicy skirt steak on a plate of its own, plus another place with plenty of rice and some plantains. The rice portion wasn't too little or too much, and the plantains were fried go the perfect tenderness with just a little crisp on the edges. I asked for medium rare and FOR ONCE I actually got a medium-rare steak on the first try! Usually I find myself sending my steaks back to the kitchen because it's too bloody or too well done but la Carreta'a culinary team is ON POINT! It was the perfect amount of bloodiness, not overwhelmingly red but just pink enough. The bread was served fresh too, and our waters were constantly filled without having to ask. One thing did disappoint me about this whole experience though... The most important thing that goes with churrasco is the chimichurri sauce. Now I've ordered churrasco a good number of times to know what the sauce looks like and this was NOT IT. There were so little herbs in it that I could literally count them. The whole sauce container was literally just liquid. Sure it kinda tasted like chimichurri but I don't want to dip my steak in a ramekin of solely vinegar. Sigh... Condiments are important to me and my fav part of skirt steak is the sauce that comes with it. Too bad theirs was just awful. read more

For many years, I frequented this La Carreta's ventanita, meeting up with my squads after roll call, for a quick cafe and croqueta before heading off to work. Rarely however, did I venture inside to dine as the food was rather mundane; instead I'd go to Rio Cristal or Sergio's on Bird Road (which I'd still recommend over LC). After a long absence, I tried LC for lunch along with my Cuban wife and her mom. Unfortunately the quality of the food hasn't improved. I had the La Especial sandwich. It costs $2 more than the standard Cuban sandwich, but all it offers extra is 3 small pieces of chorizo, so, not very special. The pork was rather dry and the ham seemed like that institutional canned stuff. I wasn't impressed. My mother in law had the grilled dolphin. I have a really hard time believing it was even dolphin. It was totally bland and devoid of flavor. Now, for my 97 year old suegra, it probably didn't matter, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it. My wife had the palomilla steak; although I'd consider it just "OK", it was actually the best of the 3 dishes. The cafe cubano after the meal was delicious, just like always. This La Carreta barely makes 3 stars, based on prompt seating, friendly/competent server, and perhaps the fastest, most attentive water glass refilling I've ever experienced. I am a Miami native and would you believe I have never eaten at a La Carreta anywhere in Miami?! I know, crazy, right?! In my defense they are usually so packed that it keeps me away. However, one rainy Sunday morning my family and I decided to give it a go. Counting on the rainy weather to keep the crowds away, we were pleased to find it nice and quiet this particular morning. Service was excellent! We were seated immediately and immediately someone came to our table to take our drink order. Very soon after someone else came to take the food order. He gave some suggestions which made the bill come out a few dollars less, which was nice. Hubby and I each ordered the Carratero breakfast which included cafe con Leche, 2 croquettes, eggs, potatoes, tostada, and choice of bacon, ham, or sausage! Very reasonably priced at $7 and some change. We also ordered a side of pancakes. Food came very quickly along with warm smiles from the food runners. My husband had a chocolate bastido that was SO yummy, and my daughter had orange juice that you can tell is fresh squeezed. I was so excited that the Leche came separate from the cafe and you get to decide how dark you want it!! :) Someone was always nearby in case we needed anything and the food was really yummy! Yum yum! A must have if you find yourself in Miami. This is the place to go if you're looking for delicious Cuban cuisine and your wallet will thank you too. While this location feels a bit crammed on the inside, a great food adventure awaits. Their rice and beans are always delicious and the churrasco is absolutely delicious with the chimichurri sauce. Although this place is just pure awesomeness one thing that always bugs me is that they put too much milk on the coffee and by the time you put just the right amount of espresso you end up with a cup full to the brim and you either have to lean into it or risk spilling it on yourself. Sometimes the waiters are very attentive in your needs and sometimes they just brush you off but overall I'm too busy eating to care enough. If you're into vegetables this is not the place for you....you come here to eat fried greasy deliciousness only true foodies are safe to enter. Leave the diet somewhere else yall ;-) read more

We had reservations for 42 people. So, kudos to La Carreta for being able to serve our ginormous family on a Friday night. That being said, we ate at different times...1/2 our group almost halfway to almost done while the other half just started receiving their meals. I would like to give them 2.5 stars but can't justify the 3 with the quality of the food and that half our party was done while the other half was just diving into their meals. I think the best way to equate La Carreta is the TGIF's or Ruby Tuesday of Cuban food. It definitely tasted Americanized and lacked flavor. We weren't too impressed and were disappointed. Unfortunately/fortunately the standout was the never-ending super fresh Cuban bread slathered in a garlicky butter...I could've made a meal out of it. The seafood was cooked to perfection....but again, lacked seasoning. Churrasco wasn't that great (again, a seasoning issue) but I heard the favorite from our party was the boneless roast pork....despite the large chunks of fat. The Cuban coffee stand right outside the restaurant was really tempting and super packed. I think if I had tried it, I'm sure it would've pumped this up to a 3 star. read more

I have been visiting and still do at the outside window where the day group of ladies are fantastic!! But I must say the food quality has gone from average to the lowest since I've been coming for the last 20 years. I don't usually eat inside any more and do take out . It is frustrating to pay a $12 breakfast when I use to pay $8 tops. It's a Little frustrating with service as well in the inside and register ladies always have something else on their mind instead of how can I help you. . It's an atmosphere they are more interested in their gossip of the day then helping their customers. I'm a Cuban I get it . I had to write this post because last night I ordered the classic Calle 8 sandwich which first use to cost under $10 now has the new increases. The sandwich was so big that it used to take two hands to eat it and I would only eat half and save the other half for the next day. But last night I ordered takeout the classic Calle 8, and I got two slices of bread, one slice of ham, one slice of pork one slice of bacon and the tomato was so thin I couldn't even see it in the sandwich. I almost went back!!! of course we have two options. Don't go back and go elsewhere or we have been doing lately doing our own things at home. I will take the first as I probably will not be going back to order any kind of food from La Carreta. What a shame!!!! This place has gone down on quality beyond belief! Now that we've been in quarantine we've done our best to support our local restaurants. This is the second time during quarantine that we have ordered from la Carreta and it has been a waste of money each time. The first time they got our order wrong and refused to fix it. The second time they forgot one of our items, when we called to fix it i was told, "oh well the kitchen is closed now". Just like that they hung up on us. Not to mention that our food was stale, cold and lacked in taste. The tostones were refried from earlier and they were rock hard. Start out with the fried yucca or the tostones cups filled with shrimp. Imperial Rice is one of the best I've had in a long time. We went for lunch and everything was fresh. Their chicken frita was way to much for one person as was the vaca frita but it's great for leftovers the next day. Flans were creamy and delicious. Our staple is always a small plate of the chicken soup as an opener. I love it. It's actually my favorite. I order it special when I'm sick too. I also always order fresh squeezed orange juice. It's delicious! If we feel like having meat we go for the palomilla steak with white rice, black beans, and maduro plantains. However there are a few other options to chose from in the meat section. If you're feeling like chicken you can get pollo a la plancha (a grilled chicken breast) with yellow rice, and maduro plantains. There are a few other chicken options as well. Substitutions for rice and sides are welcome here too. They are very open to customizing your order. I love the dessert here too. My favorite by far is the arroz con leche. It's delicious! They have flans of course, Tres leches, natilla, and a few other options. There's this creme brûlée with a pound cake under it. Also one of my favorites!!
