I have never had such a bad breakfast from a La Carreta before. Honestly it was very disappointing especially coming from this location. I came to have breakfast at 8:30a on a Sunday, so it wasn't busy at all. There's was only one other guest inside eating and around 5 people at la ventanita so the kitchen shouldn't have been busy. I order the breakfast combo with fried eggs, fries, a slab of ham, tostado and 2 croquetas. The French fries were soggy, cold and tasted like they were cook hours prior. The slice of ham was very low quality, salty and undercooked. The eggs and toast was okay, thank god. But the croquetas were the worst croquetas I've ever had. Very disappointing and sad coming from a La Carreta. They were cold and the filling just didn't look right, it was discolored almost, didn't taste good at all. My whole meal was $11 including tip, so it was a relatively cheap meal, wish it didn't taste so cheap and low quality. read more

I always come to this location to their caferia window for cortadito, croquetas, pastelitos, pan con bistek and the like. I have also eaten at the restaurant. It's good authentic cuban food at reasonable prices. However their customer service is a hit or miss kinda of thing, specially on the cafeteria window. Today I stopped to order a pan con bistek. The older person was on the coffee machine, the younger tending another customer. When i arrive i greeted and touch site with the younger girl to let her know i was next and i waited for my turn. Another customer arrived while i was waiting and she tender her first instead of me that had been waiting a while. I didn't say anything but the older person making coffee noticed and took my order and proceeded to tell the young girl that I had order the steak sandwich. When the younger girl finished with the other customer she came to me and gave me the cost of the sandwich steak without a receipt so as always I waited until I receive my steak sandwich before paying. While I was waiting started to read all the signs that they have in there, one of them says if you receive your order without a receipt that the food is free. About 10 minutes passes and the younger lady comes back again and tells me the cost of my order again without a receipt. So I asked her don't you have to give me a receipt otherwise order will be free as the sign says? and she says no in a very rude way that the receipt is given once I already have paid and I get my order to wish I said wow that's really weird because normally when you buy something anywhere you get the receipt you pay and then you get the order. She apparently did not like that and when my steak order came after I say total of 15 minutes she actually threw it on the counter and did not say that that was my order. A couple minutes passed and the older lady making coffee told me that that was my other. This is just one example. Othertimes i have come for cortadito and asked if they who made the coffee instead of using the one that's there and they have giving me a hard time for it which I don't understand because I am paying for food it should be fresh not just the ones that they have laying there. Point is depending on time of day you may experience bad or rude customer service. Hence why I star this visit 2 stars. read more

Definitely stop by if you have some out of towners who want to try some traditional Cuban food. I love the vaca frita, Piccadillo, and plantains here. They also have some lechon that is to die for. I love La Carreta. It's been a long long long time since I had breakfast here. It rocked. I had the steak an eggs. A palomilla steak with eggs and fries. For sure breakfast of Cuban kings. Spectacular, how have I never had this I don't know, but damn it was delicious. Thank god i don't live in Miami anymore because if I did I would be attacking this all the time. On Saturday September 22, 2018 a group of couples went to have breakfast around 10:00 AM. There were suppose to be three tickets to pay. One of them was for around $21.70 which was paid cash. Someone in the restaurant kept the cash and charge it to my 80 years old credit card. I paid around $38.00 and they also charged an additional $15.00 even, which I guess was to take $15.00 cash out of the register. Whatever you do don't order for delivery or in my case at all. I placed an order for delivery and not only was it very late. I patiently waited over an hour even though it should've been 40 minutes. After receiving my order it was incomplete with 2 palomillas with NO sides. I called the restaurant to ask what happened and they said because I didn't specify the sides they gave me none even though it is the same price. I asked if there's anything they could do for me and their manager Tony Morales said no because it was my fault. I have been a manager for over 10 years that is not how you run a restaurant. Enjoy coming here. I prefer to sit on the left side of the e estatura the as the right side seems a bit more like you're being herded. Maritza is our go to waitress. Ask for her if she's available. She has never gotten our order wrong and does go out of her way to make things perfect. Omelette is great as is all of their main plates. Food comes out quick. We had a great breakfast here today. I ordered the number one which came with cafe con le he, cuban toast, and I got scrambled eggs, and fries. My husband had the one with croquettes. The cuban toast was perfectly toasted and nice and buttery. The cafe con leche tasted amazing like if they used evaporated milk. We always eat great service here and today was no exception. A white person's review for other non-Latino people who live in this area. Overall, a good staple in Kendall. Disclaimer: I really don't like Cuban food all that much. Be that as it may, my husband does and this place does satisfy... for simple, classic dishes like Vaca Frita and Ropa Vieja I was pleased (even though the Vaca Frita was a bit too crispy and chewy) Their black beans are good, not too soupy, and seasoned well. Their yucca is delicious and my husband said the sweet plantains were great. Garlic bread was stale but garlicky. Wish I could give a better review here, but like I said - I wanted to give a non-Latino perspective and this is all I've got for ya. I think if you're passing through it's worth the stop, since it seems to be one of the only really authentically Cuban restaurants over here. So I'm not the biggest fan of La Carreta, I have to admit, I would rather do Versailles for the food, HOWEVER, I am taking this opportunity to vote this as the BEST cuban coffee in South Florida. You can argue with me until you are blue in the face and nothing will change my mind. I am a huge coffee drinker. I try cuban coffee anywhere and everywhere that is offering. But at the end of the day there is something about La Carreta cuban coffee that is just delicious. I will tell you this, I know exactly where they get their coffee beans from and even though I buy the same ones its not the same. It never comes out the way it comes out when I am standing at the window holding my dollar bill. This is my ode to La Carreta Cuban Coffee, thank you for being a part of my life. A delicious franchised Cuban spot that offers a good menu where choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner abound. Started off with a cortadito that was oh so good, and then we ordered two appetizers: the fried green plantains stuffed with shrimp and pineapples and the fired yucca stuffed with ground beef. Sadly, the yucca never arrived at our table. The stuffed plantains were delicious: four pieces generously filled with shrimp and pineapples commingled in a light red sauce that was the perfect blend of slightly sweet and slightly salty. They were quite outstanding! My friend enjoyed the Ropa Vieja and I delighted in the Vaca Frita: Mojo fried beef ( a bit dried out) topped with onions and served with black beans and rice and my favorite, fried plantains. Service was pleasant and we had to swat a couple of flies that were buzzing around our window-side booth, but overall a good experience and a spot I'd return to if I were nearby. read more
