However we were going either way because it was also our featured DJ's birthday. We made reservations but that was difficult too as we called for several days until someone actually answered the phone. I was a little surprised because the food we ordered were all pretty tasty, decent portions, and reasonably priced. The service was ok. Orders took a little time to arrive, but they made sure we had chips and salsa and with a full crowd and a limited number of wait staff, they made sure we were still being attended too. It is very loud here with a full restaurant of diners, the live DJ and football games going with loud cheering fans, so if you have sensitive hearing, bring some ear plugs.

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

We always enjoy La Casita Olvera when we go to Whittier, CA. Their "made at your table" La Casita Olvera margaritas are delicious. The complimentary guacamole and tostaditas and the albacore ceviche appetizer were well prepared and a great way to start the meal. The grilled leg of lamb in the chile based black mole was a delicious entree, tender, spicy, and cooked just right, between medium-rare and medium as ordered. The Budin de Coliflor, a roasted cauliflower entree was also delicious, although it seemed to be a slightly different dish, a terrine rather than the brioche bread pudding described on the menu. Was searching around Whittier or the best Mexican food and came across La Casita. I'm quite picky when it comes to Mexican restaurants. I walked in and was pleasantly surprise with the great ambience and welcoming staff. I ordered quite a few tacos (as it was taco Tuesday) with varying meats, it was all delicious. Also experiencing their great selection of margaritas. I paid my bill and headed out the door when they grabbed me for a parting shot. I can't say my experience was anything short of excellent. The lack of ownership presence lately is definitely noticed though, it just not the same when they lovely couple is not there. Service and quality suffer for a variety of reasons. The rest of our group did not care for it one bit. This restaurant definitely missed the mark all around, so we will not return to dine here again.
