Service was absolutely terrible. Food wasn't bad. Didn't get our guacamole or queso, no apology, and then shrugged when we said we didn't get it. Then 3 of 4 of us got our food, and we waited patiently. When the other plate of food never arrived we had to search out our server (because she never checked on us once) and found her huddled just hanging out with other employees. Again, no apology. Delicious food and a great celebratory vibe! The double decker patio is fun! I totally recommend the Chile poblano, but sometimes they run out. They can get crowded and have a wait on the weekends, but it's worth it. You can just order a drink at the bar while you wait, but you'll probably have to stand, and maybe even in the little parking lot. My fav Mexican place in St. Louis! Fantastic chips/salsa, magaritas.. everything!! I tend to get the shrimp chimi on the grill which is literally to die for. Branched out to other dishes but I always come back to the chimi, I guess I'm destined for it! Have a great patio and outdoor seating area which is always fun to sit at in the summer on a beautiful day. Nothing better then sipping on an ice cold margarita with a sun shining on you! Anyone who says they have good margaritas clearly thinks powdered Country Time lemonade is the best you can get. It's crap! The food is OK in some respects, but it's basic American Mexican food - not Cherokee Street for sure. Pueblo Solis has better drinks and food in my opinion but doesn't have the college frat party vibe going at La Catrina: loud patrons and drunken antics included at night! If it's not crowded, it's bright and inviting with a nice patio but then... The place is a nuisance to neighbors. They've been cited as a nuisance property by the city and you can tell they aren't good neighbors. Their music is too loud (as noted in many reviews) yet their new two-story patio is right next to a small house. Employees have been pictured urinating behind a nearby house. Nice and neighborly! The neighbors love them so much they just got their street zoned for permit parking only. Don't park on Walsh St near the restaurant or you will get a ticket. Don't park in the lot next door for the '09 Pub either. You may get towed. read more

If you are going to open a Mexican Restaurant across the street from Puebla Solis.... you need to bring it. In my opinion, La Catrina does not bring it. The service complaints documented in earlier reviews were not evident during my visit. The one high point of my family's dinner this past weekend was the prompt and polite service of our server. The food was not good. My La Catrina burrito was cold on the inside and the tortilla tasted like it came straight from a Gordon's wholesale package. I received similar gross, blah, or average, summations from the rest of my dining guests. To be fair, we will give La Catrina another shot. The place is always hopping every time I drive by. Loved it! Had the fajita quesadilla and some queso. It was fast and tasted amazing. I heard the wait can be bad but we didn't have that issue. Went next door to 09 for a drink after. They had buckets of naturday for $5! Great block to hang out on! read more

A friend of mine recommended this place since Cherokee street wasn't back to its historical Cinco De Mayo. I will just say I am glad I didn't stay long. The food was okay, I hope they have a better menu besides Cinco. The Margaritas were ok, felt like they were a little watered down. The decor is nice and the back bar was a nice touch. The Patio is cool. This really isn't my scene and They are definitely not following any COVID Guidelines. In my opinion better places else were. Instead of having an outdoor patio to sit at I would prefer that they get a bigger parking lot to park in- parking is horrible you're parking in front of somebody else's business and walking to the restaurant which I think is dangerous on hampton . sitting outside I was inundated by flies the entire time that I was trying to eat I had to keep swating them off of my food which was really annoying to me. The waitress was proficient but not happy or charismatic. Thats what gets the nice tup from me. My margeritta was awsume minus the flies. Chips and salsa were standard fair. I ordered the fish taco it was perfest. No complaints about the food. But please make parking better. read more

PLEASE READ: We have always been fans of La Catrina for their amazing food, incredible staff and margs. However, La Catrina has permanently gained a loyal customer for going above and beyond during our last visit. We recently went for lunch and were notified by a waitress that our car was being towed from the corner parking lot (which we thought was parking for La Catrina). I rushed to meet the tow truck driver and other business owner who called the tow truck on me. They had barley started to load my SUV onto the bed of the truck and were demanding $250 in 10 minutes or it would be towed. My attempt to claim we did not know it was in violation fell on deaf ears as expected and was about to be towed from the lot. One of the managers from La Catrina saw the situation and, without hesitation, PAID the tow truck driver $250 to let me have my car and be on our way. His generosity for a customer was astonishing. These are the kind of actions that generate true customer loyalty and I will certainly be recommending La Catrina to all of my friends and family. I cannot express how grateful I am to the staff and manager for going out of their way to help a customer. THANK YOU!!! read more

The atmosphere was fun and the outdoor seating looked really nice. The prices of their margaritas are the best in STL. We shared the fajita nachos and they were some of the best nachos I've had in a while. I would recommend getting the Chile verde special or the fajita burrito. read more

This was my 2nd visit. The first visit my hot food was cold-but I decided to give it another try. I ordered the Cheese Enchilada's that came with rice and guacamole salad. After a long wait-my enchilada's were cold. I sent it back to get warmed up. Again-after a long long wait-my food came back. My guacamole salad was steaming hot. We love hopping between here and El Buro (Taco Circus you're next!). I absolutely love their patio. We've sat inside which was very nice, the decor is very colorful and fun. I haven't gone in awhile because of a horrible experience at their companion location (El Catrin) but my husband and brother in law went last week and were both charged $18 automatic tips on a $21 tab. Not 18%, but $18.00.... An 85% tip automatically. Not sure if the wait staff meant to put 18%, but both checks were charged out at over $40 when they split a pitcher and had one entree. They added gratuity without asking him. So just watch your receipts. 18% is one thing... 85%, you're just stealing money from patrons. That's unacceptable read more

First time I went here for lunch it was great! Service was great, food was great, atmosphere was great. Second time I went for dinner around 6. I had called moments before coming in and asked if there was a wait for 6 people. Manager told me no and there was no one here. I get there it's an hour wait and the restaurant was completely packed. The hostess told us it was an hour wait. We finally get seated in a booth with 6 people (which was uncomfortable). They said that was the best they could do. (Even with tables open) Then came the service which was absolute trash. She took our drink orders then went away for like 20 minutes, came back and took our orders, the orders got delivered by two other people missing half of what we ordered (which we had to get up and find someone to find us the rest), still didn't see the server again until it was time to pay. The food was trash. Apparently there being more than 5 people she couldn't spilt the check by item only evenly by 5 people per total. She took everyone's cards and ended up charging everyone's ticket to one card. This by far was the worst experience I ever had at a restaurant! We have been wanting to try La Catrina for a while and just haven't had the time. Last night we went on a whim and thought we'd give it a shot. We were a little worried because we had a 7:30pm movie to catch and it was 6:15. But we figured as long as we left by 7:15 we would make our movie in time. We were sat immediately and brought water. The waiter asked if we'd like anything else to drink, as another employee was bringing us chips and salsa. I ordered the jumbo margarita, which was fantastic and my boyfriend ordered a Corona. Both were brought quickly. The chips and salsa were delicious as well. Salsa was different than any I've had before. We then placed our dinner order. I got the chicken chimichanga and my boyfriend got the beef. Both arrived within 10 minutes. We were impressed, especially because we were in a hurry. Everything arrived quick enough that we were able to order another round of drinks. We will definitely be back! read more

Worse customer service experience I have ever had. I order the jalapeño poppers and they didn't taste right to me. I ate half of one and told the waiter I didn't want them, he took them away from the table. I got my bill and they tried to charge me for them. I asked the waited Giovanni for them to be taken off and he said no. I asked for the manager. The manager came I explained the situation he still said I had to pay for it and walked away. I have never had an experience where the restaurant didn't take off the food if I didn't like it. The waiter told us to hold on multiple times, I would have enjoyed the food and experience if he wasn't such an ass. I will never eat here again and I hope they get shut down. read more

This is a neighborhood styled restaurant with lots of charm. The murals inside are noteworthy. They really are good. There is a great outside seating area, with separate bar and a second story. Looked like great fun so we will return there in nicer weather. The food was good. I had a steak stuffed chimichanga smothered in grilled peppers and onions. The person who recommended La Catrina to me had recommended the fajitas. I was lured by the chimi but I'm sure the fajitas are good because I'm pretty sure the same veggies were smothering my chimi and they were really good. The steak could have used more seasoning but the veggies carried it. The chimi shell could have been a little crispier. The salsa was good but very bland. When we asked for hot sauce we were handed a bottle of Cholula. I like Cholula but l was hoping for something more. The restaurant was slammed but service was still good. I was impressed.
