The flavors were beautifully balanced, with nothing overpowering the other, allowing each ingredient to shine. To finish, we ordered the crème brûlée, and it was divine. It wasn't overly sweet--just smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. The service made the experience even more memorable. Our waiter, Red, was incredibly kind, professional, and welcoming. He was attentive without being intrusive, answered all of our questions, and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout the evening. I can't recommend Jolie enough. Every part of the experience--from the food and ambiance to the exceptional service--was outstanding. We would come back in a heartbeat. After dining here, it's easy to understand why Jolie has earned Michelin recognition. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they receive a Michelin star in the near future.

I'd never heard of Mustard-Seared Calves' Livers, but, loving liver the way I do, I was willing to try it. When the liver came out, it looked like a huge pile of greasy slop. I was not deterred and took a bite. The liver was mush; it had absolutely no texture, and the taste was just awful. Not wanting to tempt fate (I have had food poisoning before), I did not eat any more than that first bite. As I mentioned before, the waiter was excellent and removed the offending entree. He offered to put in an order for something else. I opted for the calamari appetizer, which was okay. They comped my calamari and didn't charge for the liver. I hope the restaurant will rethink this dish. I suppose it could have a following, but at the very least, make sure the liver is fresh and high-quality.

We also split the crab and avocado sandwich with house salad. The house salad dressing was amazing as was the crab and avocado. It was so good I asked for a catering menu for my next event. Thankfully, our amazing service was Gabi, who manages all the catering. Such a great experience on a lovely afternoon.

We were a party of 4; my husband and I got our starters at the same time, maybe about 15-20 minutes after we ordered. The other couple who was with us didn't get theirs until about 15 minutes later, with minor apologies. Once those were cleared, we waited over 30 minutes for our entrees, and when they finally showed up, my steak was severely undercooked. At that point, given how late it had become (past 9 pm), I didn't bother sending it back. I don't mind unhurried service, but this was beyond slow.

My friend and I shared the Peach Gorgonzola Salad, Voodoo Trout, Yellow Curry Pistachio Chicken and Coconut Cake. Gorgonzola is first cousin to blue cheese and not a very subtle flavor but the peach salad was beautifully presented, light, slightly tangy and perfectly balanced. The chicken had soba noodles and the trout had mahogany fire noodles. Both were absolutely delicious and I usually don't care for noodles much. The trout was perfectly cooked with one of the most complex and delicious sauces I've ever tasted. Thai basil, ginger, cumin, garlic, coconut, shellfish sauce, with shrimp, cilantro, snow peas and tomatoes. There was a tiny bit of heat (spice) that was absolute perfection in terms of balance. The coconut cake was a yellow cake with a white frosting. Comfort food texture without being heavy. There was a delicate drizzle of lemon or caramel on top...we couldn't tell but it was delicious and I'm glad we didn't skip desert. We did end up taking some leftovers home but ate a lot when we were there. The thing that surprised me the most was I was full but not stuffed. Somehow, the very hearty, earthy, food wasn't heavy. I've never been to France or Italy, but based on the way I've heard people describe the food there, Maxmillion's is most likely on par with that. I'm picky about every aspect of my food and I couldn't come up with even one tiny complaint.

We also had the sides Brussels sprouts and Japanese eggplant, which were average, and didn't have anything unique about them. The level of the food just didn't measure up to the cost for me. And to top it off, on one of the hottest days of the year, the air conditioning was clearly not up to the task. The dining room we sat in is completely surrounded by glass, so I'm sure AC is a challenge, but it was warm and uncomfortable.
