Relatively authentic Mexican food. Huge selection and great prices. I'm not Mexican so how do I know it's relatively authentic? All of the staff and a lot of the patrons are Mexican. Go to Abuelo's up the street and see if you can find a single Mexican customer or a Mexican customer-facing employee. No? That's because Abuelo's is for gringos. It's to Mexican food what PF Chang's is to Chinese food and Domino's Pizza is to Italian food. A lot of the negative reviews from the gringos here are just indications of why many Mexican (and other ethnic) restaurants in Indianapolis go the bland gringo way - too many people around here simply don't like authentic ethnic foods. This preference for blandness also ties to the recent article in the Indy Star about how Indianapolis has the third most fast food restaurants per capita in the US and an article in Indianapolis Monthly a couple of years ago about how Indianapolis has the most chain restaurants per capita of any decent sized city in the US. Pretty horrible all around. The best part of my experience here was the $4.99 margarita. Your choice of frozen or on the rocks. They give you a nice pour for 5 bucks, so no complaints there. Burrito del mar was an interesting take. There needs to be some sort of law against serving imitation crab in a burrito. No self-respecting Mexican I know would allow this atrocity to happen. Then on top, it's covered with this weird white queso sauce that tastes more processed than an imaginary Lunchables/Handi-Snacks hybrid cheese I might have eaten when I was a kid. This is our go-to Mexican restaurant on Friday nights. Most restaurants in our area have a wait on the weekends but La Hacienda has a great new large storefront and has super quick service. The food is always consistent and hot. I've never had anything I didn't like and my order is always correct. I ordered chicken fajitas (for about $10) and there was plenty for take home. The tables and chairs are all hand carved and brightly painted. Love the authentic music and the energy from this crowded restaurant. 3.5 , good basic tex mex. Went here with a coworker for lunch on my last day of training. The food was good. Everything on the lunch specials menu was pretty basic (tacos, burritos, chimis etc). This place used to be very good. The margaritas were great so if the service or food was just ok, the margaritas made up for it. Last few times it smells like sewer when you walk in and the food has been luke warm at best. The margaritas are not up to standard any more. Mostly just frozen limeade and little tequila. I absolutely love this place. I have ordered a variety of items from their menu and have never been disappointed. My favorites include arroz con pollo and grilled chicken tacos. The service is exceptionally fast, so it's a perfect lunch spot. They closed this location several weeks ago because they are moving to a new spot by Amber Indian Restaurant, which is super close. Good Mexican food exists on the Northside of Indy. La Hacienda is a bit hard to find, but worth the hunt if you want a quick meal. Lots of familiar classics from burritos, enchiladas, salads, and fajitas. There's nothing overly special about the place. Friendly service, a large dining area with plenty of booths, and a large outdoor patio. Order and the food is out practically before you unroll your napkin. The lunch specials (Monday-Saturday) are the way to go. You can get a burrito, enchilada, and beans for $7.50. Plenty of chips, bowls of salsa, and margaritas await your arrival. Ok, I'm pretty picky when it comes to Mexican restaurants, especially ones that aren't super expensive. I finally found one that I like in La Hacienda. My significant other has been going for years. I finally got the chance to try it and I did find it to be better than most. The ingredients seem fresher and the portions are generous. Try the Polla Asada made from chicken breast over rice with cheese. Comes with warm flour tortillas and quac. Salsa is also really tasty and not too hot. Service is quick. Prices good. read more

Great food with fast service. For newcommers, it can be hard to find that first time you are trying to get there. It's in a small strip, next to Amber Indian Restaurant, but once you find it, you won't go anywhere else. Everything is reasonably priced and the service is great. I can't go into much detail, as I always get the same thing, but with all the happy faces in the building, it's not hard to say that people are very satisfied. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. The server was rude as soon as he "greeted us". He acted like he was annoyed that we were there. Never got drink refills, or chips and salsa. The food took forever to come, and when it did, they only had 3 of our 5 meals ready. My husband and son had to wait longer. I asked for sour cream, and it didn't come until I was done with my meal. The food was mediocre at best. Our server removed no dirty/finished plates during our meal, so we sat with dirty dishes forever. We asked for a box for my sons kids meal, and it never came. My husband got up and got it himself. We have visited this restaurant twice, and it's good. In assessing strip mall Mexican that offers a wide array of dishes, La Hacienda is as good as it gets in my opinion. The food is cheap, decent quality, and the place is nice. You get a true family environment as well. On my most recent visit, I had a combination dinner with a beef taco, beef enchilada, rice and beans. The beans were great. The taco and enchilada were of fine quality. Definitely better than what I'd make at home, not mind blowing if you are looking for a gourmet Mexican food experience. The ground beef could stand to be seasoned a bit more. The salsa that comes out at the beginning is delicious. The service on our first visit was great; waiter was very attentive and frequently by our table. This past visit, service was lousy. Waiter asked what drinks we wanted, we said two diet pepsi's. Five minutes later, he returned to ask what drinks we wanted...okay, that's no big deal. After we ordered our food, though, we never saw him again. There was a table with 15 people, they took all his attention. We were done eating before getting a single drink re-fill, then had to wait awhile for the check. In all, a 3 star "A-OK" rating is sufficient for La Hacienda. For strip mall Mexican food, I'd say it's in the upper echelon, but if you want a gourmet meal at a trendier type restaurant, go somewhere else. I'll definitely be back. read more

I received some coupons in the mail for La Hacienda and decided to give it a try with my fiance the other night. Upon walking in I was pretty amazed at the colorful decor. Each table and booth and even chair unique in it's own way, gorgeous and very personal. We were seated immediately and served our drinks. For our appetizer we decided to share the Chori Queso. Queso blanco with chorizo sausage. I'll admit the cheese tasted a little processed, but I still enjoyed it. Their salsa they serve is pretty spicy, so heads up! Like many Mexican restaurants, their menu is huge. If I were to actually go through all of it and make a decision on what to order we'd have been there for an hour. I decided to get the Arroz con Pollo. Chicken, rice, and queso served with tortillas. It wasn't anything special, but not bad by any means. I'd like to go back and try their burritos, enchiladas, and chimichangas. The only part of our service I wasn't pleased with is the amount of time between bussing our table and us receiving our check. We probably sat and waited for our check for 10-15 minutes with nothing on our table and nobody checking in on us. All in all not a bad experience, I will definitely go back sometime and try some different entrees. read more

The cheese dip was very creamy and almost tasted like ranch. Margaritas were also a disappointment. The tequila tasted cheap and the drinks tasted like they were from a mix.
