Champurrado with almond milk And lavender Cuernito (Croissant)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is so lovely especially in the fall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have día de Los muertos decorations up which is very festive. I tried the champurrado with almond milk and I personally love it, it has a warm fall vibe. Also really loved the lavender croissant it's sooo good. The staff is also very friendly.

Came here around 10am, quiet place . Neat and clean inside ! Breads were stacked up . Drinks are the same all the places so I wasn't expecting anything . Calm vibes . Service was okay, but no hi how are you or anything so it's like whatever you want to do . If you come here just order ahead. . Cuz I can walk in and grab whatever and then leave , that's how calm it is in here . Just make sure to leave the money on counter!

Horchata Cafe de Olla one of my favorite drinks here 10/10

Excellent service ,bread ,cakes and coffee this drink is one of my favorite ones I honestly recommend it to everyone who came to visit this store or any Monarca

This is the second time I try La Monarca Bakery (2 separate locations) & I'm genuinely not impressed at all. I wish I would've had the great experience other people claim they've experienced, but this place has fallen short to meet my expectations not just once but twice! I was craving tiramisu & their tiramisu was the hugest disappointed. I literally took 2 bites & ended up trashing it. (Sorry God) I sincerely dislike doing that, but I knew no one else would eat it & I can't simply give away things I've already ate from especially during Covid times. It was just beyond dry! Dry as the Sahara, dry like my mouth after eating a salted pretzel with no water in hand, dry like the bottom of my mans patas (feet). Ok I'll stop...It wasn't just dry, but it was also lacking in that coffee flavor that those of us that like tiramisu enjoy so much (the second bite was to determine if coffee flavor stood out at least) I really wanted to like the Monarca, but my 2 experiences so far have totally sucked. I'm giving a 2 star instead of a one because the conchas had a decent flavor, sadly though those were also dry.

Hard as a rock concha "DO NOT PURCHASE!!!" Not fresh bread or poor cheap ingredients. I want my money back.

The concha's here are the worst. As hard as a rock. I asked the worker if they bake new bread daily and was told hesitantly yes. Honestly I do not believe the bread is made daily because it's as hard as a rock. Do not spend your money here on the concha's they are not worth it.

I really like this coffee shop. I haven't tried the pastries but the cafe de olla, cafe Oaxaca, and molletes were all very good! Every time I've been here the shop has been pretty quiet and empty, as well as very clean, so it would be a good place to do work or some reading.

I'm always delighted by their exceptionally friendly customer service. They bring heart and humanity to a streetscape just outside that exemplifies the grinding and brutal urban reality of Los Angeles: impersonal traffic, poor people slogging to jobs, and endless commercialism. The inside has lots of natural light from large windows, yet manages to feel cosy with wooden tables and chairs. This one has rather more high bar stools than chairs which I am not fond of. Yet, their WiFi works so it's fine to try and work here on your laptop. Their music soundtrack is always exciting, vibrant Mexican pop that is dimensionally more complex and improved compared to the fluff that U.S. pop machines churn out. I love their chilled drinks and their coffee lattes with horchata are exceptional. I'm not counting the sugar. Their little cookies are so delightful as well.

To me love has to be like coffee. Sometimes strong, sometimes sweet, sometimes alone, and some others accompanied but never cold.
    Nubia O.

I love La Monarca Oaxacan and de la olla coffees. They're absolutely my all time favorites. I also love their molletes which is made with their signature bolillo bread. They spread mashed beans on half a bread with melted cheese on top. It comes with a salsa verde that is such a nice touch to the mollete. I have tried a couple of their sweet bread and cakes and everything has been amazing, but my go-to breakie from here is either a cafe de la olla which comes slightly sweetened with piloncillo and has a nice touch of cinammon or an Oaxacan coffee which is half cafe de olla with Mexican chocolate and a mollete. I'm craving some now.

    Ready for more!

The La Monarca chain here in our home of Los Angeles is an ever present standard of delicious and homemade baked goods right beside Cali-mex fare. It was the afternoon that was a little weird. There was an older-than-middle-aged man in the corner using his phone and drinking what seemed to be an endless cup of coffee. I could not figure out the art to opening the bathroom door, so the lady from behind the counter had to help me. And my tacos, though delicious, made a strange pairing with the absolutely sumptuous cookies baked fresh daily. Okay, maybe that is a normal afternoon for the East Hollywood La Monarca, but it was exceptionally excellent for me.

My drink secured and made it home without spilling
    Jesus V.

The desserts are fresh and delicious, had the horchata cake and agua fresca and the lady who helped me went above and beyond to make sure I could travel with my drink and not spill it on my way home, this type of customer service makes people come back and I'll be back

Parking is pretty difficult, and valet is $5. I can easily see the parking lot getting gridlocked on a busy day. I sampled a few of their gelato flavors, including the jasmine lychee and soy sauce. Both were okay, but I just wasn't in the mood for either of them today. I ended up getting the Pandan Toast to try. The pandan flavor was really good--not too grassy and didn't taste too artificial. The ice cream also had a buttery taste to it. It might have been from the toast, but I'm not too sure. The bread itself wasn't oily, which was nice, but it was kind of dry. The pandan sauce definitely helped make it easier to eat. I probably wouldn't eat the bread by itself though because it was super hard and didn't really have much flavor. I wasn't sure what to expect from the toast, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I originally wanted to try the mango sticky rice flavored shaved ice because it looked really good in the photos, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. So we decided to come here for coffee or tea and ended up having a really nice time. I used to come here quite often about four years ago. Back then, I really liked their Einspänner and ordered it several times. But the last time I came, I thought it was way too sweet, so I hadn't been back since. It had actually been a REALLY long time since I last visited. And when I used to come here four years ago, I always came in the morning or around lunchtime. Last night was my first time ever coming here at night. My friend told us that they are open until midnight, so that's why we decided to come here after dinner. I had heard that parking here can be a nightmare because there aren't enough parking spaces and people have a hard time finding a spot. But once again, my parking luck was AMAZING! A car pulled out right in front of me just as I arrived, so I was able to park very easily. Another friend arrived later than I did, and she said she couldn't find a parking spot at all. She drove around for quite a while looking for one before finally finding street parking. Last night, we also had some tiramisu, and since I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, I decided to have a caffeine-free ade instead of coffee or tea. It was a little sweet for my taste, but it was ok. We sat outside on the outdoor patio and talked and talked and talked. We had such a fun time together! However, it was actually pretty cold outside last night. I remember thinking that it felt surprisingly chilly. But what was even crazier was how FREEZING cold it was inside the café! They had the air conditioning turned up so high that both my friends and I felt like we were going to freeze to death. The restroom is inside, and I also went inside to get some water, so I mentioned to one of the male employees that it was freezing inside. He told me that they didn't feel cold at all because they were working, and that THEY were actually feeling really hot. I went back to our table and told my friends what he had said, and they were like, "WHAT?! We're freezing to death over here!" The parking lot here is actually pretty large, so I was wondering why it was so difficult to find a parking spot. Apparently, at night, the left side is the café, while on the right side there is a bar where people can drink and also play games. There was a huge line of people waiting outside the bar last night, so I'm guessing that's probably why the parking lot gets so crowded and it's hard to find a spot. It was also pretty chilly outside last night because of the low temperature, so one thing I wished they had on the outdoor patio was heaters. That would have made sitting outside much more comfortable on a cold night.

The barista was super helpful with explaining what each drink was, didn't steer us in any direction though. The Houjicha shaved ice was the standout. Houjicha is a toasted green tea, and the flavor is a little difficult to describe--it has a warm, grainy, almost wheat-like taste that's very different from traditional green tea. At first, it can seem like an unusual flavor, but don't give up on it. Once you add the syrup they serve on the side and keep eating, it really grows on you. It somehow gets better with every bite, and before you know it, you can't stop eating it. The Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte wasn't exactly what I was in the mood for, but it was still well made. It had a nice balance of umami and sweetness without either flavor overpowering the other. While it wasn't my personal favorite, I'd still recommend it if you're looking to try something a little different. Overall, Anko is a great spot if you're looking for unique Japanese-inspired desserts and drinks in a calm, beautifully designed space.

The center is super runny, though, so be careful because it can get messy fast The strawberry was definitely my favorite - such an interesting combination with a really bright strawberry flavor. The mango was good too, but I probably should have gone with a different fruit. The ice cream was honestly a 5/10 for me. You can find similar, or even better, ice cream at a dollar store, so I'd skip that The strawberry lemonade, on the other hand, was SO good! Not too sweet, with a nice tart flavor. Definitely recommend it! The café itself was clean, cute, and welcoming, and the staff was friendly. Would I come back? Probably not. I think these desserts are more of a trendy experience that everyone should try at least once. I'm glad we did, and the quality here is definitely great - I just don't think I'm going to become a fan of this type of dessert.
