The food was so good! The cheese in the tacos were so crispy it has my heart the seafood ceviche was very good as well one of the best I've had in years. The steak fajitas were very good my little sisters ate it in seconds but be careful the veggies can be spicy! The churros were so crispy . The flan was okay but it's better than a lot of places. We decided to try this restaurant after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp. I went with my boyfriend, my sister, and my brother-in-law, excited to check it out for ourselves. Right away, we noticed how dark it was inside -- so dark that it was hard to even read the menus, but we managed. Our waitress, Alex, took our drink orders: one beer, one carajillo, and two micheladas. I specifically asked if the micheladas were made with Modelo, and she confirmed they were. When the drinks arrived, I took a sip of my michelada and immediately noticed something was off -- it didn't taste like a michelada at all. Another waitress happened to stop by our table, so I mentioned the issue. She got defensive and explained that the micheladas were made with mezcal. I told her I wasn't aware of that, especially since mezcal isn't a typical ingredient in micheladas. I politely asked if they could remake mine without mezcal. Unfortunately, she seemed visibly annoyed by the request, which made both me and my boyfriend uncomfortable. As a result, he didn't send his own drink back and just ordered a watermelon hibiscus margarita -- which also ended up being disappointing. When our original waitress finally returned, her attitude had noticeably changed, and the whole table felt awkward. By the time I got my remade michelada, we hadn't seen her for a while. When she finally came back, she told me they were actually out of michelada mix -- even though I already had a replacement drink in front of me, which seemed to confuse her. We placed our food orders, my sister tried to order the tacos al pastor, but they were out. and my brother-in-law ordered another carajillo. Our appetizers and meals arrived, but his second drink didn't show up until almost the end of the meal. We also asked for more chips, but they never came. After finishing our meals, we ordered three desserts. Once we finished those, we asked for boxes to take the leftovers home. We waited for about 10 minutes, but the boxes never came, so we just decided to leave. We had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, the service was mediocre, the atmosphere was uncomfortably dark, and the food was just okay. First time I went to a Mexican Restaurant that food are tiny, not even gourmet. Just regular staple Mexican food yet very expensive. Not worth it. We are not coming back. My husband and I were very excited to try this place since our area is lacking in modern, trendy Mexican restaurants. Initially, I was drawn to the fun, beautiful Tulum-inspired decor and vibe of the place. The service was pretty good. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering, which was amazing! I wish our server had given us waters initially before ordering though because their pickled onions and brown salsa is spicy. Also, their water cups are wayyyy too small. I get that it's trendy now to make the glasses smaller, but if you're gonna serve spicy food, I think water service needs to be more convenient lol. My watermelon hibiscus margarita was a bit too bitter for me. Was also expecting it to come in a larger typical margarita glass with more tajin covering all sides of the rim. Other than that, it was not overly sweet or strong. As for the food, we ordered the salsa tray, guacamole, tuna tostadas, chicken Blanca enchiladas, and New York steak. Portions were a little smaller than I expected. Salsa Tray was ok. The tortilla chips were good but kinda cold and a little too thick. Would've preferred for them to be warmer and slightly thinner so they tasted fresher. The 3 salsas were good but nothing amazing. I was hoping they were chunkier; they were more of a sauce consistency. Guacamole was pretty good. It's only enough for 2 people in my opinion but flavor and consistency was great. My husband thought it needed more salt, but because the chips were salted, I thought it was perfect as is. Flavor of the tuna tostadas was really good. But they only give you two tostadas. Tuna was not chopped up; it was long slices making it a little harder to eat. I really liked the fried leeks on top and the sauce on the tuna. New York Steak was decent. It was cooked medium as requested, but it was kinda greasy. There was also too much fat on the steak that they should've trimmed off. I think they need to consider using a different cut of meat for this dish. They served a stuffed chile relleno on the side, which was my favorite thing I tried. Cooked perfectly and had delicious veggies (carrots and peppers) in it. The Blanca enchiladas were ok. It's served with 4 of them, but my husband felt it was a rather small portion size. The sauce and chicken was lacking in flavor. It also kept falling apart and was difficult to eat. I would like to come here again and try more things on the menu. read more

My friend and I stopped by the restaurant, excited by the positive reviews we had heard on Yelp. As we approached, we noticed it was very dark and thought it was closed, even though it indicated it was open. We decided to head to the barbecue place next door instead. As we walked away, we saw a small light and thought, "Maybe they are open after all." We looked closer at the door and realized, "Oh my gosh, they are open!" It was a shame the restaurant was so dark, as we would have chosen it first. Once inside, we found the food simply amazing--delicious and authentic. We were able to get a last minute reservation for an early dinner for Valentines Day. 1st time trying the restaurant in our community. Server was friendly and attentive. My friend and I started at the bar with a few drinks (chile pineapple mango margarita) while waiting for our table and it was such a vibe with the bartender Alex Alvarado that we decided to stay at the bar and order our food there. The ambiance is pleasant, food and drinks 1000 out of 10 and the service was exceptional. I am big on customer service and they have far exceeded my expectations. I was here a year ago with some co-workers and enjoyed it. I remember being there for a while and they didn't rush us out of there. Yesterday, after exiting AMC movies with my wife and 2 sons, I spotted their Taco Tuesday happy hour sign outside and we decided to try it out. Tacos were really tasty, I tried the chicken tinga, street corn and ribeye and all 3 were unique and flavorful, probably liked the ribeye the best. Guacamole- ($8 happy hr)/ salsa and chips were also really tasty. The house margarita was great ($7 hh). Tasted good- not too sweet- not watered down, good size, especially considering it was happy hour some places make them weak but not here, nice and refreshing on a hot day. What stood out to me was that the happy hour menu on our table apparently was not switched out a couple of weeks ago with the rest, and the a la carte tacos said $2, so between all of us we ordered 10. When the bill came it had the new price of $3, which is still a good bargain, but when we mentioned to our waitress why the discrepancy, the manager came over and took the 10 dollars off our bill- and then switched to the new menu- but she was very nice about it and honored the price on our table which I appreciated. Went to the movies on Cinco de mayo, had no idea this was over here but my friend suggested it. The place had a nice buzz for 10pm on a Sunday but wasn't packed. We started with the Las Perlas and the Forbidden Paradise Mule and we really liked the Las Perlas. The Forbidden Paradise Mule was good as well, similar passion fruit flavor but with ginger beer added. I enjoyed the guacamole and salsa. Our salsa tray never came out but we ordered a lot anyway so didn't miss it. I will have to give the other salsa a try though. The creamy chipotle prawn tacos were pretty good, although a little messy. Campechano tacos were okay, kind of a basic street taco. Had a reservation for 3 at the Porter Ranch location on Friday March 27 at 6:00 pm. We arrived a few minutes early. The hostess told us we'd need to wait until our reservation time to be seated. There were numerous empty tables at this time, but we told her we'd be happy to wait in the bar. She changed her mind and took us to a table. Service was fine and food was fine. We ordered an appetizer, 3 entrees, 2 rounds of margaritas and a desert. With a generous tip we spent $216. At 8:10 the manager (or who I assumed to be the manager) approached our table and asked how our dinner was. She then proceeded to tell us that we had been there for 2 1/2 hours and that they only allowed their customers 2 hours to dine. She then asked if we could leave because they were so backed up. We were flabbergasted. I looked at my watch. It was 8:10. We'd been there exactly 2 hours 15 minutes. We were already planning to leave in a few minutes, as we'd paid our bill and finished our drinks and food. We proceeded to leave. But I am angry. I have a degree in hospitality management. I have worked in 5 star 5 diamond properties and properties more at the level of La Popular. This is not proper treatment if you want your customers to return. This is the rudest thing I've ever witnessed or experienced in a restaurant. We are three women in our 60's, affluent, well dressed and quiet. There was absolutely no reason for us to be asked to leave. We noticed that a table of 10 or 12 people sitting next to us only ordered appetizers and drinks. They were seated just a few minutes after we were. They definitely didn't spend as much per person as we did. They were taking up 2 or 3 tables pushed together. They weren't asked to leave. Just thought you might want to know how your "valued" customers are treated. All three of us and our family members have been to La Popular in Porter Ranch numerous times since you opened. Never again. You just lost a huge chunk of local business, as all three of us live in the area and have a huge number of family and acquaintances. Word of mouth, especially negative, goes very far.
