I came here with my mom and sister over the weekend and we had such a great experience! La Popular is located in Porter Ranch, right next to the AMC, Finney's (also delicious) and Whole Foods so the location is super convenient with lots of places around. The vibe inside is on the darker side, but it feels really nice...perfect for dinner with family or friends, and it would also work well for a romantic date. The bar looked amazing (even though we sat at a booth, I'd definitely come back just to sit at the bar sometime). Service was excellent. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive, and when she heard us speaking Spanish with my mom, she immediately switched over, which my mom really appreciated, since she feels more comfortable speaking Spanish. Huge plus in my book! Food was absolutely delicious. We started with the salsa tray...so good, and the "salsa llorona" (habanero based) was my favorite! I ordered the cheese enchiladas, while my mom and sister had the carne asada. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. For drinks, I had a mojito, my sister had a margarita, and both were delicious. To finish, we shared the flan and butter cake , which were creamy, smooth, and the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, everything was great, the food, service, and atmosphere. I first found La Popular in Porter Ranch through Uber Eats and decided to visit in person, and wow! The decor stunned me: low lighting, romantic vibes, perfect for a date night. *Delayed post from June '25 What a fun date night spot! This Mexican restaurant is located in an outdoor mall with water features and grape vines, a movie theater, and plenty of shopping opportunities with a massive parking lot. We were given the option to sit outside, but unfortunately their patio is enclosed, so you can't enjoy the outside breeze and it feels significantly hotter than the surrounding area. The inside however is a total vibe with low lighting from table tea lights, plant walls and vibrant blue neon signs. There are lounge chairs/sofas, a bar, booths and regular tables to choose from for every occasion, with lo-fi techno and EDM thump tracks playing in the background. Food-wise, everything was a hit, though some adjustments could be made here and there. The chips and salsa were really good, featuring a slightly chunkier salsa that's smoky and slightly spicy. The tortilla chips are really thin, crispy and freshly fried, though we found out they don't make their tortillas in-house, so they probably just cut and fry them from a preferred brand. They aren't salted, which normally I would argue should be a given, but it allows the salsa to shine. The Corn Off the Cob Salad was the best discovery in my opinion because it presented familiar flavors and textures in a new and balanced way! It's topped with a parmesan and ground chili mix that traditionally coats elote, which complements the heavy lime dressing and chunks of creamy avocado really well, and corn nuts for an added crunch. The banana peppers and raw onions add a nice spicy kick over mild greens and a slight bitterness from the arugula. The queso fundido is served in a very shallow pan, which allows more of the cheese to crisp up on the bottom, while the top is broiled. The corn tortillas served on the side have an unexpected coat of sweetness. The rice was unexpectedly spicy, but still tasty. The shrimp in the fajitas were juicy and cooked well, but the chipotle sauce on top overpowers all other flavors on the plate. The steak was nothing special, but thankfully not overcooked or dry. The onion and peppers really brought the fajitas together with a caramelization that made them soft, yet still had a bite. read more

Only second time here, thought they deserved a second chance as last visit was a few months ago & thought maybe they were just short handed that day. Mind you it was a Saturday afternoon at a very busy shopping center. Very poor service, so frustrating but we had already committed to staying last time. NOT today! Got seated right away on the patio & immediately regretted it as there was an incredibly loud table of people by us. We debated asking to move inside but alas NEVER had anyone come out to bring water or anything. After 15 minutes I went inside to ask & was completely ignored by more than one of the waitstaff as they passed by the host stand area. I told my party that we need to leave. I met some friends there yesterday for their Taco Tuesday special and happy hour. First time trying it out. Food was delicious! Everything we ordered was really good! Quality ingredients. We had the Queso Fundido with Chorizo and flour and corn tortillas. It was definitely comfort food taken to a higher level. So flavorful and satisfying. I had a carnitas taco which was amazing and a rib eye taco costra style. Wow! The steak was so tender and seasoned to perfection. I must say having it made costra style made it one of the best tacos I've ever had. First time I've tried a costra style taco. I'm a fan! The chile pineapple mango margarita was also over the top delicious. Service was very good. A bit noisy when there's a lot of people inside. La Popular is one of my go-to spots! I've been here several times and I almost always order the same thing, tacos! They're so flavorful and delicious every single time. One of my favorite parts is their salsa tray. it's such a fun touch, with five different sauces that are perfect for sharing with friends. The vibe inside is super calm and relaxing, and the decor is beautiful. I've only come during lunch hours, so it's usually quiet and peaceful, perfect for catching up with friends. They do have a pretty extensive alcohol menu, but I haven't tried it yet. Everyone who works here is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I love introducing people to this place. We got the ceviche which came with plantain chips that was interesting. The ceviche was decent but not the best I've tried . Not sure if I liked idea of plantain chips but ok. Ambiance was very good here, liked the vibe and atmosphere. On Monday it was relatively slow night inside Items we ordered: Queso with Chorizo, this is as very good. Ceviche was sort of the middle of the road not great not horrible. Cesar Salad was good. Baja grilled fish tacos , well they brought fried fish not grilled sooo that was a miss. Instead of waiting for that to be redone we just ate these and they were okay. Carne asadas dish was good Steak fajitas was a hard no, majority of steak was fat and gristle This was a dish that most of as left behind on plate. The torta and tajin fries was very good and would definitely order this item again. Butter cake dessert was also very good. Overall food was hit and miss with a couple great dishes Service on the other hand was mid at best, it it had been slammed and very busy then it would have made sense. But was only about 15 people inside and some more outside. It did get better towards the end and also a staff member in a sport coat did check up on us at the end but that was at the tail end of the night. We l finished our dinner a few minutes after he stopped by the table. The drinks we all had were very good and it's hard to find Bohemnia beer in restaurants nowadays so that was a good thing. Ambience was definitely the highlight here. The restaurant has a great vibe, lively atmosphere, and overall feels like a fun place to spend an evening. We ordered ceviche for my son and specifically asked the server if it could be non-spicy and without avocado. We were told it wasn't spicy, although it was pre-made and they couldn't remove the serrano peppers. It ended up being spicy enough that my 7-year-old, who normally loves ceviche, couldn't eat it at all. Starting dinner with a disappointed and hungry kid definitely set the tone for the rest of the meal. The enchiladas suizas de pollo were very basic. The sauce lacked flavor, and the chicken felt average at best. The rice tasted old and dry and wasn't really edible beyond a few bites. The beans, however, were actually pretty good and probably the most flavorful part of the plate. If you look at totality, the Porter Ranch Vineyards have an eclectic and dynamic distribution of restaurants over a spectrum of ethnicities. One of them, is La Popular, a pulsating drinking and dining destination, with superb food and toe tapping Spanish music (yes, salsa, merengue, and more). The place is always packed and loud. But there is a party vibe that you will find nowhere else in the Vineyards. Excellent lighting inside, tables well dispersed and flocks of people waiting in line, to relax and dine. After a wait to get in, we were seated with a view of the glass open kitchen. It happened to be Taco Tuesday and believe it or not, all the tacos were $2 a piece. So first we ordered the Salsa Tray ($6 for 4 salsas with chips). As before, it did not disappoint. Then, we all got 3 tacos each. Dispersed between us, were the Tinga (chicken), Carnitas, Prime Rib, Corn and Baja (tempura) fish. All the tacos were superbly constructed, oozing with texture, flavor and spice. So what was the best one? It was a unanimous decision. The prime rib taco. Spectacular. Service here is always short staffed. So happy they are open on Christmas! Phew! We were not planning on going out, but we ended up being in a 5 hour power outage at home. I was very hungry and looked up what was open. Happily La Popular was open! It was a lil before 2:30pm when we walked in. We sat at the bar. Seth greeted us and took our order. We ordered a LP margarita with tajin and the queso fundido with chips and salsa. We ordered a birria burrito to share but there was a mishap and our burrito never came. But that ended up being ok. The fundido was so yummy and cheesy and rich that the birria would have been too much for me. The cheese paired great with the chips (which we opted for over the tortillas). Seth was nice and made the mishap right. Thank you! We ordered shrimp tacos à la carte instead and they were perfect! So yummy! Perfect amount of food. They came out fresh and hot. We came to La Popular on a Saturday evening and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. Inside, the vibe is very dark with loud music playing, almost club-like. Our waiter was great, super friendly and helpful when recommending popular entrees and drinks. I ordered the mole enchiladas, which were delicious. The mole was sweet, rich, and full of flavor. My daughter had the birria burrito and really enjoyed it as well. My wife ordered the taco plate and said the ribeye tacos were her favorite, though she didn't care much for the Creamy Chipotle Shrimp taco. The drinks were okay, not too strong. Got seated at 812pm, was offered a table top which is not what was requested in the reservation so kept waiting. Got seated, server was cordial and checked on us 2x. Food was mediocre and rice was cold. Ahi tostada were . Cocktail drink was tasty. Not a horrible experience but not the experience I expected on my birthday. I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could. Staff is very responsive to customer input and it shows in the flavors they put out. The carnitas tacos on happy hour are mind blowing. Their micheladas and tequila old fashions are superb. Even their guac was standout from every other Mexican restaurant I've tried. But the most extraordinary dish had to be the mole enchiladas; very rich with bold chocolate flavor, just incredible and a must-try dish when you're there. The salsa tray and fajitas were our top picks. We loved the atmosphere and sexy vibe! I think a GNO would be great here. What sucks is this place is GORGEOUS! The food is good, but they never get my order right -- & as someone with food allergies, I find this terrifying. 5/6 times I've been here, my order was given to me WRONG. How? Beats me, I ask people to read it back to me & it still comes back wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not talking I asked for a complicated order, I'm saying I said GREEN sauce & got RED. I've been here several times (for GNO, family dinner, and post-game celebration) and I have yet to be disappointed. Love their chips and fresh house-made salsa. LA Popular is great for herbivores and carnivores alike. Their ROASTED VEGGIE is beautiful, filling, and colorful. Very delicious and beautifully presented. Other favorites I'd recommend are the CREAMY CHIPOTLE SHRIMP and the MOLE ENCHILADAS. I really love how they make the dishes so colorful and full of flavor and textures from the red onions, guacamole, cotija cheese, cabbage, cilantro and crema. Portions are well balanced so you don't get too much of rice and not enough protein like at other Mexican restaurants. Oh and the drinks are BOMB! There are so many to choose from! I really love their WATERMELON HIBISCUS MARGARITA. So refreshing! Service has been great. They consistently check on you. One time it was really cold and they only had outdoor seating at the time. They moved us to a nearby table that had less draft and more warmth from the heaters. Parking can be tricky on weekends when it tends to be very busy but there is parking in the back. The ribeye tacos were absolutely incredible, rich flavor, perfectly cooked, and honestly some of the best I've had anywhere in LA. But as great as the food is, what truly makes this place stand out are the people behind the bar. Adrian, Alejandra, and Yvette were incredible. Even while working on Christmas,, they greeted everyone with genuine smiles, great energy, and an amazing attitude. They made the entire experience warm, welcoming, and memorable. The first time wasn't so great but the second and third time have drastically improved. our favorite appetizer is their ceviche. Their mixed drinks are delicious. My boyfriend and I visited this Finney's a few days ago and we were greeted by the manager and she was so nice and quick to get us a table we were instantly greeted by our server and she was so kind she filled our waters every time they were low and she picked up on the fact that we weren't in the mood for conversation and just did what she needed to do very well.
