LA Popular is becoming a staple in the Porter Ranch area. I come here at least once a week with friends for Happy Hour or a late drink. The staff is always extremely friendly and welcoming, I think it's important to mention that. The drinks at the bar are always on point, and served with a smile from the team. I have ordered a few things here, like the Guacamole with Chicharron, Birria Tacos and Asada tacos...all were good and satisfying. They recently opened this restaurant at The Vineyards, and I'm sure everyone's excited to have a little more variety in the area! It was our first time visiting this location, and I really enjoyed the cozy, dimmed ambiance and the music (though it was a bit loud -- we had to raise our voices to hear each other). The menu isn't overwhelmingly large, which I appreciated. It's easy to navigate and offers some nice options, especially during happy hour. We went on Taco Tuesday, and I tried three out of the four à la carte tacos -- carnitas, tinga, and steak -- all very tasty! The pico de gallo is on the spicier side, so I ordered it on the side. We also shared the steak fajitas -- the meat was flavorful and cooked well, but the veggies were quite spicy. It might be helpful to note that their spice level runs higher than average (unless that was just a one-time thing). Service was great -- our waiter was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Located in Porter Ranch, tucked into a larger plaza this place is worth a visit! I came to celebrate my husbands birthday and I'm glad we picked this spot. A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint. They served tableside chips which were yummy and gave us an idea that the food we were going to order were also going to be good. I ordered the chipotle shrimp taco plate and the creamy chipotle sauce was to die for. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection! They even brought out a bowl of ice cream for my husband. stopped by with my partner cause of the reviews here, and frankly, i was a little underwhelmed. the appetizers and the presentation were great! we ordered a guacamole, which tasted fresh and had a creamy texture. this came with some crispy tortilla chips that i could fill up on. however, for our entrees we ordered ribeye tacos, and Asada enchiladas which came along with refried beans and rice. Unfortunately, both the rice and the beans did not taste fresh and had a fairly odd after taste about them and the meat itself that was within the entrées did not have the amount of seasoning you'd expect from Mexican cuisine with decently high prices and small portions. and as for the service, we were sitting outside and our server rarely checked up on us to see how we were doing or if we needed anything more. I had also asked for some extra salsa with my food that I never received. Overall, I would only visit this place again if I just wanted some fresh guacamole with chips, but I don't think that the food is a good reflection of the ratings it's receiving online. read more

Came with a big group for a birthday party so forgive me for not being able to catch some pictures. This place is a vibe for sure. The service was phenomenal and our waiter handled our big party with such ease. Appetizers: Queso Fundido- 10/10 definitely opt in for the chorizo. We loved it so much we ordered a few more the table. Ceviche: 100/10 definitely my favorite item on their menu. Hated that I had to share but I know the next time around, there will be no sharing. Tajin fries- 6/10 Their ribeye tacos was beyond disappointing. Not only were the tacos extremely tiny but they barely had any meat. Not worth the price...at all!!! Perhaps their best option here is the combo plate. Enchiladas are okay but what was tasty and worth trying is their tempura Mahi Mahi taco. It was a great size and the fish was perfect. The atmosphere is lively and modern, which makes it a fun spot for both dinner and drinks. The menu is wide ranging with tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and plenty of sharable starters. The flavors are bold, the presentation is thoughtful, and you can tell more care is going into the details now. The food overall is much stronger than it was a few months back. The margarita could use some work. It leaned too sweet for me and I missed that balance of real fruit juice and spirit-forward flavor. It is not a deal breaker, but it stands out when the rest of the menu is performing at a higher level. Happy hour here is a winner. The deals, the vibe, and the consistency easily make it one of the best in the neighborhood. Even if you only came for that, it would be worth the trip. La Popular is moving in the right direction. My friend and I started off with guacamole chicharron.....interesting combination but it was the tastiest guac I've ever had in the valley. We also had the salsa tray 10/10. Dipped in the dulce de leche... much better than the chocolate (bitter aftertaste). We have eaten here about five or six times now. Each time, the food has been fantastic. The last time we ate there in March of 2026 we had a great server named Janessa. She took very good care of us, she came by our table a couple times during the meal to check to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a very enjoyable experience. If it wasn't for Manny, we'd probably give this place a lower rating for its service. Manny caught on with the lack of service and stepped up and beyond to make my husband and I's visit enjoyable. The food was good, very flavorful but (personally) I don't think it had enough textures to the bite. We got the creamy shrimp taco, tuna tostada and birria taco. For drinks we got the margarita flight and the Bienvenido flight ($25). For a Saturday night around 5pm, it wasn't busy. Just note that it is in a shopping center and the advertisement sign for it is really small (a bit hard to find considering the color combination). Food was really good! Highly recommend the Quesabirria it comes with two and a side of Mexican rice and refried beans. Same goes for the Al Pastor taco it comes with four and a side of Mexican rice and refried beans. The Branzino adobe is cooked to perfection, and comes with a side salad. For dessert we had flan with a side of vanilla ice cream. The wife and I had pineapple mango fresco and cactus pomegranate fresco, respectively. The staff is very friendly and checked on us frequently. Thanks Jonathan! The place is modern and dark lit. It's very nice and on the upscale of things. Huge private parking lot shared at a plaza. An improvement is better dishwasher service. Our glass had lint all over them so we had to wipe the inside and outside. Also, the plates had either water stains or the prior food was not washed and/dried thoroughly. They should look into this. Aside from that, we will be back. read more

Wow what a fun time. Came here for dinner with some girlfriends and it did not disappoint. The salsa flight was delicious and the tacos left me wanting more. My margarita, hibiscus and watermelon, was the highlight of the night aside from the butter cake the melted in my mouth so sugary warm and delicious with the cold ice cream melting on top. The restaurant upon entering is very nice, and the ambiance was cozy with an upscale vibe. I ordered the Carnitas Tacos, Birria Burrito and a side of Street Corn. Every item came out fresh tasting and hot. Our server Janessa was amazing!! If you plan on going, make sure to request a table in Janessa's section. I made sure to let her manager know well she took care of our table along with the three-four other tables she had to serve. The Chile Pineapple Mango Margarita on the Happy Hour menu had a very well balanced amount of alcohol, unlike many happy hour bars drinks that are very water down and overpriced. I wanted to share our experience from last night's reservation at 6:15 PM (Thursday) --though "experience" might be generous, since it mostly involved sitting and wondering if invisibility had suddenly become our superpower. We arrived on time, were seated promptly, and then... nothing. No greeting, no water, no "we'll be right with you." Just radio silence for a solid 15 minutes. The only sign of life was someone dropping off chips and salsa (which, credit where it's due, were excellent). But after that? Crickets. The restaurant wasn't busy. There were plenty of servers walking around--some even made eye contact as they passed our table, which happened to be right next to the kitchen. So unless your staff has mastered the art of selective blindness, they absolutely saw us. And still, nothing. Before we left, I informed the front desk--very politely, mind you--that we were heading out. I let them know no one had acknowledged us, and that we had a movie to catch. I figured I'd do the staff a favor and break the news gently, since they seemed so committed to pretending we didn't exist. It's frustrating, especially since this isn't my first disappointing visit. I've written reviews before, hoping things might improve, but clearly, consistency is key--and not in a good way. I'm not sure what's going on with your front-of-house operations, but it's not working. Guests shouldn't have to beg for attention, especially when they're seated in plain view. read more

This review is a reflection of my first time dining here so things may have changed since. La Popular is a beautiful restaurant located in the newer Porter Ranch outdoor mall known as The Vineyards. This is the perfect place to host a birthday party or any kind of gathering because the ambiance is rather nice. Their patio features an outdoor fireplace and we all know my poor circulation benefits from something like this. I'm impressed by how the food and drinks are presented. The cocktails look gorgeous. One thing that sets them apart is their salsa appetizer which is like a flight of their different salsas but presented in a unique way. While this is a Mexican restaurant, some of the food tasted like it could almost be Indian. Maybe because of the amount of cumin? Regardless, the food was pretty tasty. Last night was my second time at La Popular and I must say it was perfect. We sat at the bar and ordered the Spicy Pineapple mango chile margaritas which did not disappoint!!! The mango puree tastes SO fresh in the margarita and all the flavors are perfectly mixed. SO GOOD I had to have two. We weren't too hungry so we shared a chips and guacamole bowl and the three tacos plate. I had the ribeye taco and half of the chicken and I must say the ribeye was perfect, if I go back I will get all three as ribeye just for me. I also LOVE rice and beans and the beans were so good I was eating them with my chips more than the guacamole lol. In the past the first time I came to this restaurant was at night and it was very dark and dimly lit, however yesterday evening we arrived at about 6pm and it was nice and bright with the light from the windows.
